FROM THE EDITOR'S DES ii Saturday, June 28 was another memorable day for the SPJST Society when it welcomed another lodge into its fraternal organization. Yes, on this beautiful Saturday afternoon, several Supreme Lodge officers, District III representatives, plus city dignitaries and interested members traveled a long way to witness and extend a fraternal handshake to the members of Lodge Pinewood Heritage No. 178, Longview for their Official Chartering and Dedication Ceremonies at the Gregg County Fair Grounds in Longview, which is located approximately 60 miles from the Texas-Louisiana border. The Bi-Centennial observance year and the SPJST Society's 78th Anniversary (July 1st and 4th), were just ahead, and it was indeed appropriate of the lodge's members to schedule this combination historic event and, at the same time, open the door to numerous new prospects for a larger membership and progress. The area of Longview-Kilgore promises a great future for the growth of our newest lodge — Lodge No. 178. The kind, encouraging and inspiring remarks by the Mayor of the City of Longview, 'the Honorable Tommy Carlisle, and the President of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Ewing Adams, leave no doubt that the future of Lodge Pinewood Heritage

PROGRESS Not enjoyment, and not sotrow, Is our destined end or war But to act, that each tomorrow Brings us farther than today. —Longfellow * * Men, my brothers, men, the workers, ever reaping something new: That which they have done but earnest of the things that they shall do. —Tennyson No. 178 is in a great area of deep East Texas. Indeed, when you read SL Vice President Joe B. Hejny's report in a future issue of the Vestnik, you will see that this lodge is already on its way and will gain membership faster than many of our long-existing lodges. Sincerest wishes for Lodge 178's success are expressed by our entire Society. * * This week's editorial will be brief due to the large amount of mail we have received the past two weeks. Since we did not publish an issue last week there is a backlog of material to be published. In the Features section you will find the text of the speeches by SL President Morris and District III Director Pokladnik delivered at the Lodge 178 Chartering. Lodge 178 Secretary Janice Vrana gives

a rather thorough coverage of the event in the Letters section of this issue, These reports, plus the photos by us should give, we feel, good coverage to the chartering and dedication. * * The next day, Sunday June 29, we attended the District V YAD at Lodge No. 88, Houston. The day was nice and the YAD was held in the very hospitable atmosphere that one always encounters when Lodge 88 hosts an event. It was nice to meet old friends and to greet new acquaintances. We hope to run the pictures taken there just as soon as space permits, hopefully in the next issue. Some reports must be delayed due to the lack of space this week. There has been some opinion expressed that the Society could get by with the Vestnik being published twice a month. However, last week's deferment of our official organ has pointed up the fact, to us here at the printshap, and perhaps to some of our readers and correspondents, that this would not give us the same high caliber type of publication we have today. The fact, same as in most anything, is that if you miss a week, you have to double up to catch up! * * Keep in mind that July 25, 28. and 27 are the dates of the Grand opening of Eagle Mountain Ath-
