FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Since the inception of district meetings, the editor cannot recall when he ever attended a meeting in District VI such as the one witnessed April 13 at the Community Center in Victoria by a surprisingly large attendance. It was a good idea for the four Lodges, Nos. 32 (Nasinec) Victoria; 41 (Nova -Rat째lest) Port Lavaca; 97 (Placedo) and 143 (Primori) Inez to together host the spring meeting, because this undoubtedly brought out the members who presumably never had an opportunity to host or attend a meeting previously; it was a fine gesture by whoever was responsible for the thought. Obviously, by the looks of the overall planning and preparations, it was observed that the lodges' officers and members present did their share of pitching in in order to hold an informative and interesting meeting. After hearing the district director, sales representative, youth counselor and rest homes' reports, it is very essential for members in their respective district to be aware of the continuous growth, and to hear our SPJST state officials' reports about what has transpired and how our Society operates from convention to convention. The friendly atmosphere and entertainment by the four youth clubs the Victoria Czech Singing Group, "Ceska Men," plus the Vanek-Malik Orchestra gave the appreciative audience an opportunity to listen to some fine lively entertainment. Brother Adolf Motal is the key man who organized the group
THOUGHTS Fortunate is he who has learned the difference between romance and love, attractiveness and beauty, age and maturity, prosperity and success, knowledge and wisdom. *** Persons who live in glass houses shouldn't hit the ceiling. *** Nothing is likely to cost you as much as the living you think the world owes you. *** The girl who is waiting for the right man to come along often doesn't know what route he's taking. *** Nothing helps more to make a long story short than long-distance phone charges. for their first public performance, with the assistance of Mrs. Dan Swoboda, and Mr. Joseph Bittersmann, instructor. Their beautiful singing was very well received. (Refer to Feature for more information on the singing group.) District VI SR Edwin Smajstrla and his wife Sadie surprised Sister Lottie Krutilek of Lodge 30, Taiton, with a token-of-appreciation plaque for her nearly 51 years of devoted service to the SPJST Society. Congratulations, Sister Krutilek, you indeed have served the Society well! The host lodges are commended for hosting the spring meeting, this idea may be food for thought to other
districts whose lodges never hosted a meeting before. It is the editor's wish for District VI to continue progress in their insurance sales and keeping enthusiasm alive in their youth clubs. Your district has qualified members serving the Society, keep up the good work! In my concluding remarks, it was gratifying to be among the many longtime and new fraternal members where acquaintances were renewed. * Your editor wishes to add that the youth program was of a very patriotic nature of which any true American citizen could be justifiably proud and goes to prove that the people, even the youth, of Czech descent truly do value the democratic principles upon which our U.S. was founded! ** SL Vice President Joe B. Hejny, head of the SPJST Insurance Department, has a monthly report in this issue revealing the amount of sales of our insurance business which was made by our statewide SPJST productive sales representatives. In the first quarter of the year, the SPJST Society has gained $3,745,500 of insurance business with 914 applications . For the month of March, the insurance sales were $1,364,500 on 336 applications. Brother and Sisters, that is an enormous volume of business by our dedicated fraternal representatives.
