FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, August 18 is the date for our annual State Youth Achievement Day, SYAD, in Beseda, Talent; Arts, Crafts, etc., aft Temple High School in Temple. Let us all do our best to support our youth and show them that we are truly interested in them and follow their progress. Let us, as adults and parents, be mature and cheer them all on, winners and losers, alike; if we are going to try to teach them Fraternalism and Benevolence, then we, ourselves, have to display it by our actions. * Tonight (Thursday, August 8), your editor took time out to listen to and see history being made — for the first time in the 198 years since the birth of our United States of America, a President of our country resigned from office. It is now 9 p.m. and tomorrow, Friday, August 9th, at noon, EST, we Will have a new President, Gerald Rudolph Ford. This should teach us ALL a good lesson, here in the United States, in our own SPJST (which is fashioned after our Constitution), and indeed, the entire world, that the people in this country of ours have the final say. We elect our officials to SERVE, and NOT TO RULE.

People take you at your own value. Act uncertain of yourself, assume that you can't do something, dwell only on your shortcomings — and they will share your low opinion of yourself. Conversely, be sure of yourself and your abilities and they will buy that, too. How, though, can you pick up the propelling energy and determination that comes from being sure of yourself, even when you are feeling

temporarily low? Here are four techniques for boosting morale that have worked for others. They may work for you. 1. Keep a "Blue Book" of successes. Next time you need a shotin-the-arm, review that written record of your most outstanding successes, and perk up. 2. Follow a big success with a big try. Take advantage of the flush of success by tackling a tough job while you are still in a conquering mood. 3. Associate with confident people. Mix with those who are excited about their work, who know their stuff and some of their confidence is bound to rub off. 4. Act confident. "A main is what he does." Act confident — by your bearing, manner, dress, and you will be self-assured. A popular after dinner speaker had a well deserved reputation for delivering humorous and entertaining speeches. One day a young man approached him and asked if the speaker would be kind enough to give him some instruction on how to write a humorous speech. The noted speaker was agreeable and replied, "It is not at all hard to write a humorous speech. All
