PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE AND REPORT Dear Members: It has been traditional for the president of the Supreme Lodge to submit an annual New Year's message and report to the membership for a number of years. The year 1973 is again shaping up as an outstanding year for our Society. We now have a total of 131 lodges with 48,367 certificates in force. (An estimate since the final figure will not be known until some time early in 1974X, During 1973, we saw the merger of some of our lodges. Lodge No. 127 Pokrok Kenedy •merged with Lodge No. 93, Karnes City. The newlymerged lodge assumed the number and name of Lodge No. 93, Karnes City. Lodges No. 79 and 56 in Corpus Christi voted to merge their two lodges early in December, and this will become official in the early part of 1974, at which time the new lodge name and number will be decided on. We saw the organization and chartering of two new lodges in 1973, that of Lodge No. 176 Houston Northwest in Harris County on 20 May 1973 and Lodge No. 177, Academy, just south of Temple on 16 December 1973 Both of these lodges show great promise and we wish them well. There are two or three other lodges that are in the organizational stage at this time, but this will not be affi-
of them. (Net figures in insurance gain and members available in early 1974). Premium refunds to members for 1973 (through December) will amount to approximately $190,357.24. The seven percent refund to lodges for 1973 (through December) will amount to approximately $81,883,87. The big "success story" for 1973 was the reactivation of Lodge No. 74, Lovelady, which had been dormant for almost 40 years. The reactivation culminated in the construction of a new lodge hall which was officially dedicated on September 2. Lodge No. 142 Stefanik in Houston also built a new hall which was dedicated on November 18, 1973. Congratulations to these two lodges for their notable progressive strides forward, and continued good luck in the future. dally accomplished until sometime !1-1 1974. We'have also made progress in the amount of insurance sold during 1973 and have a new record of insurance in force. Credit for this effort goes to the entire Insurance Department, including the Supremo Lodge Vice President's office, the State Field Manager, district sales representatives and local sales representatives. All of these people halve worked hard to achieve a record amount of insurance sold and put on the books in 1973, and we are very proud of all
1973 also saw the resignation from the Supreme Lodge of Director Brother Paul Sablatura. from District VI, after one year's service. He was automatically succeeded to the position of director by Brother Matt Vanek of Victoria on January 1, 1974. 1973 also saw the departure from our midst of many fine members . Records indicate that 359 death claims were paid during the year, which is 18 more than in 1972. We shall miss these members in our circle of friends and in our lodges. God rest their souls.
