• For seve ral months in our official publication there were timely letters, articles and reminders of the forthcoming official dedication of Lodge No. 74, Lovelady, which is scheduled for September 2nd. (Refer to the outlined schedule in this issue).

The lodge's reporter, Sister Slivena Michka had more or less voiced the concern and sentiments of all who hold fraternalism close to heart, so that this dedication can be a most significant event in the long history of the SPJST.. This beautiful building is in the East Texas tall piney woods, 'riot too far from Davy Crockett State Park, where many members and guests from near and far will stand with pride to witness ann, image of many years of dormancy coming to life!

Yes, this important milestone has ma, terialized through the efforts of numerous dedicated and devoted members throughout District H. And so, if our

Now there is the request for a huge outpouring — a massive manifestation of members during the dedication of Lovelady lodge. Never was there a greater need for re-awakening of pride in our Society as of now.

Time is approaching rapidly for the official dedication and we hope there are many of you anticipating attending and helping celebrate with these fraternal brothers and sisters. Where else could you find an appropriate oc-

casion to celebrate than at Lovelady lodge where so many faithful members donated long hours of labor toward a worthy project for the entire CO311munity to enjoy .

September, 1973, could well prove to be a most symbolic month in the annals of the; SPJST. A cordial invitation is extended to everyone by Lodge 74, so plan to attend and enjoy a nice Labor Day weekend. A short program is promised during the dedication ,so ample time will be left for everyone to have a wonderful time. Will you be there?

• 4, Time waits for no one... not even in our daily lives in the SPJST. By this phrase, we mean that whenever a person undertakes responsibility in their respective district, the undertaking is carried out to the best of their ability, and such was the case of the district youth counselors and their many, many youth leaders and assistants throughout the state who dedicated themselves to countless hours of plans and preparations.

It was our pleasure to be able to attend five of the district YADs and see for ourselves how each YAD functioned efficiently. We regret very much we were unable to attend all YADs. Just recently D i, s't r i c4t. VII held itheir YAD and we were amazed to know that so many entries were reported

The date of Sunday, September 9th has been well advertised in advance through the media of Vestnik by numerous members of the Society. (REFER TO STATE YAD SCHEDULE IN THIS ISSUE.) It is our belief that many of you are anticipating to set aside this important date (Sept. 9th) for our outstanding youth of the SPJST where approximately 242 entries will be entered and exhibited at the Taylor High School Auditorium in Taylor.

Attention is called to each first place winner in the seven districts: in case you are unable to compete at the state competition, notify your district youth counselor or youth leader at once so further arrangements can be provided for the second place winner to participate at the state YAD. Our best of luck to all the participants at the state competition!

Looking ahead to old age now has a theme of optimism. The fear of "getting old" has been minimized considerably, as anyone who reflects back to attitudes held 30 or 40 years ago realizes. If a questionnaire had been presented to young peo ple four decades ago some of the answers would be different from those made recently to the Question: "Do you dread getting old? or do you think old age has its compensations?" "I do not dread getting old. I think happiness is not restricted to any particular age group, and I am planning to be as happy at 90 as I au now," replied a young salesman. He added: "Old age can bring with it a better understanding of many things. It can provide the pleasure of giving instead of receiving counSel." My schooleacher once said: "I certainly do think old age has its compensations. The more you grow and mature, the wiser a person you become.

It is something to look forward to, and not a time to fear."

Not too long ago, a) young man, in looking toward old age commented: "That's when you will be able to do what you want to de without being rushed every minute. Retirement is a time to enjoy. You can work on hobbies, travel and do things you never had time to do before."

Newsbriefs Barabas Reunion The 5th annual Barabas Reunion will be held Sunday, September 16, 1973, ;at 10 a.m. at the SPJST Hall in Bleiblerville, Texas. Each family is asked to bring a basket lunch. Plates, napkins, silver, cups, tea and coffee will be furnished. Anyone related to the Barabas family is invited to attend.

Allen J. Stepan • • Mikeska and Siptak Reunion The Mikeska and Siptak reunion will be held on Sunday, September 2nd, at the Bleiblerville SPJST Hall. A basket lunch will be served at noon. All relatives are cordially invited, to attend the reunion.

• • Jerome George Krpec, 22, of Taiton, was killed in an automobile accident on Thursday, August 9th. Funeral services were held the following Saturday from, St. John's Catholic Church in Taiton, with burial in St. John's Cathplic Cemetery. Jerome was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krpec of Taiton. He was a member of Lodge 30, Taiton.

Features POMYKAL, NOVOSAD PLEDGE NUPTIAL VOWS Miss Janelle Donna Pomykal and Rickie Earl Novosad exchanged doublering wedding vows Saturday afternoon at the Temple Brethren Church.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Pomykal, is a 1972 graduate of Temple High School where she was a member of Pan-American, Future Homemakers and Pepperettes, and is employed as a secretary at the Temple News Agency.

The bridegroom, son of Mrs. Frankie J. Novosad and the late Mr. Novosad is a 1972 graduate of Temple High School and is employed by Amos Elect1 ric Co. Vows were read by the Rev. Albert Michalik. Wedding music was provided

by Miss Janice Vitek of Belton, organist, and Miss Paula Jeter, soloist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an Empire gown of Venice lace designed with high ruffled neckline and long sleeves accented with ruffles. The skirt was enhanced with lace scallops and swept to a chapel train. Her veil of English illusion was held by a Camelot cap of appliqued

Best man was Frankie Novosad Jr., brother of the bridegrooth. Groomsmen were James Skrabanek,, Brian Vanicek, John Hughes, Alfred Hejl, Edwin Pechal and Steven Sodek.

After the ceremony, a reception, dinner and dance were at Seaton Star Hall.

On Sunday, September 2, the new lodge home will open at 10 a.m. The rest of the schedule of events follows this report. Serving of the noon meal will commence at 11 a.m. and will consist of sausage and ham with all the trimmings. The cost of the plate, to include drink and dessert, will be $2 for adults and $.75 for children under 12.

The dedication ceremonies will get under way promptly at 1:30 with the hall being cleared at 1:15. The outdoor ceremonies will be very brief, and will then continue indoors. There will be only one principal speaker. In his address, Supreme Lodge President Bro. Nick A. Morris will give the complete tlackground and history of Lodge 74 up to and through the present time.

We wish to express our deepest sympathy to Mr, and Mrs. William Sinetanka and the Raymond Coots family upon the sudden death of their ,stepfather on August 8th, Mr. Arnold Ondrasek.

Our membership has begun to grow.

We were happy to hear that our members are on the health list this past month. At present no one has reported to me as having 'anyone ill or in the hospital. Mr. Ed Bedrich is lgoing through the clinic and improving. Maybe he will be able to join us in our lodge meetings real soon.

At this meeting a hot dog bun warmer was approved and is being purchased; so members and friends come out and eat a. good soft hot dog soon.

The next regular) meeting will be held on September 12th at 8 p.m. Hope to see more of our members out for the next meeting.

The Friendship Club had a real nice turnout. Everyone was congratulating Sister Josephine Prochaska on becoming a grandmother. A son was born to her daughter and husband, Alice and Tom Gowins. We wish them the best.

FRANK SLAVIR Frank Slavik has lived in Houston for the past 20 years and has been a member of Lodge 88 during that time.

He is connected with Bowen Tool Co. This charming young man takes the part of Jimmie Robinson, and together with Alibi Bill they find themselves involved in circumstances in which it is difficult to determine who is the instigator or the accomplice to the crime.

Though innocent, both are at wits end to convince each other and to prove their point.

CONTRIBUTORS TO THE CZECH LANGUAGE COURSES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS Time is approaching fast for the starting of the Czech Language Courses at the University of Houston. SUSAN SCIIENBURN Susan Schenburn comes to our stage in a sizable role for the first time, however, she handles her role as Lucy, the maid, with the ability of a real trooper.

She was born and raised in Houston.

She is a member of Lodge 88 and is a freshman at the Univeisity of Houston, majoring in biology. Her winning personality is an asset to the group. the ultimate, be measured only by the number of those enrolling in the study of the language and the history of the Czech Culture.

Among the organizational efforts on behalf of this accomplishment, certainly a prominent place belongs to the kind patrons who sent sums of money toward the establishment of the Czech Courses as was first requested by the U of H. All of those mentioned above receive very good pay to pay their own hospitalization if they want it, and we have Medicare and VA hospitals.

Maybe those asking the Society for this overlooked these three things, who knows?

By the request, the Society would also pay for the dependents of the insured. We can include children, wife, husband, mother, father, grandfather and grandmother, etc. God forbid, dependents can always be found! Dear Members, SPJST Lodge No. 49, Pokrok Rowona will hold its third meeting of the year September 2nd, in the SPJST Hall at 2 p.m. This is to inform those who were absent at the June meeting that the members voted to change the regular meeting from the second Sunday to the first Sunday in order to avoid conflicts with meetings of other organizations. This, thereby, would give SPJST members an opportunity to meet with us, and still attend other meetings the second Sunday; so please keep this change in mind.

Our President, Mrs. Arthur Lisso stated that there will be many important issues discussed during the business meeting, and we need your vote to determine the course of action taken, After the business meeting those wishing to play cards of dominoes may do so.

This also remind me that Ernie Kueera from Abbie, Nebraska, and his orchestra will be playing at the Seaton Star Hall on Sunday, Au gust 26th, which is this coming Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m., so that you can come and enjoy the finest music in the land and still not worry about next day's work.

Ernie only comes to Texas once a year and we are looking forward to his coming and the fine orchestra that he directs, so let's all conic out and give them a typical Texas welcome.

Matilda and I have made a very nice trip to Houston for the museum, library and archives and have visited Bro. Jerry J. Baletka, and Sister Helen Valcik in Houston. Both of these tine members made generous contributions to our LAM Department and from Houston we went to Richmond, where our friend, Mr. Vaclav Pultar has also made a very generous contribution to our museum, and to all these people I would like to extend sincere thanks. We intended to stop at El Camp o and East Bernard but our load was too big to try to load on more so we will have to make another trip to these places whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Here in Temple we need a rain for our gardens and even though we keep watering regularly, there is nothing like a good rain. Most of our farmers need dry weather to start harvesting their crops and as we have notice d. on our trip, harvest in the lower country is now in full swing with good prices for the crops now being harvested and we are happy that farmers at last are getting a better break.

So much for now and I would like to remind the Seaton Choral Club that we start singing again the first Tuesday in September, come out, all of you, and enjoy a happy hour and half of fine singing and fine fellowship. We will start singing the songs we plan to sing at the State Fair of Texas.

Leading hitters were Lawrence Honza with a home .run and a single, Connie Brennan with a double and a walk, Dave Ellison with a single, Bill Skrabanek with a single, Jac;; Scott with a single, Jeff Burton with a walk, Wiley Beesley with a sacrifice, Harry Wilkerson with a sacrifice, and Jim Seoggins with a sacrifice. By virtue of this win, we cinched a third place trophy in the City Playoffs.

Wednesday night, August 8 we played the John E. Mitchell team and it took us 9 innings before we finally won a hard-earned victory by a score of 5 to 4. Lionel Schulz was the winning pitcher allowing 4 runs, 7 hits, 1 base.m-balls and 9 strikeouts. By winning tnis game, we assured ourselves a se-;. cond place finish in the city for the second straight year, and thusly we remained with a chance for first place.

Leading hitters were Lawrence Honza with a home run, a double, single and sacrifice, Connie Brennan. with a double and two singles, Jeff Burton with a triple, a double and a walk, Wiley Beesley with a single, Dave Ellison with a single, Jack Scott with a walk, and Lionei Schulz with a walk.

Then on Thursday night, August 9 we played Frito Lay and to win the Dallas City Championshi p Playoffs, we had to defeat them two games in a row; we had beaten them three times this season. Needless to say, we lost the first game by a score of 5 to 2, and we finished second in the city and a second place 'trophy,. Naturtally, we were disappointed because we wanted to be No. 1; however, we are still happy to have finished second place for the second consecutive year. Jim Scoggins was the losing pitcher allowing 5 runs, 8 hits, 2 base-on-balls and 6 strikeouts; although 2 of the runs were unearned, it was a real close ball game until the top of the seventh inning when they scored 2 runs to cinch victory. Also, about this time, after 8 games in 8 days, we were all pretty tired of playing. Leading hitters were Connie Brennan with a double, a'single and a sacrifice hit, Jeff Burton with a double and a single, Dave Ellison with a single, Albin Vrana with a single, Harry Wilkerson with a double. Jim •:Scoggins .with a single, and Lawrence Honza with a walk.

The team, as a whole, played very good ball and we had nothing but out-

standing pitching efforts from our pitchers Jim Scoggins and Lionel Schulz and splendid catching by our catcher Harry Wilkerson. There were some errors made, none lute iitionallY, but that's all part of the game. As the team manager, I am very prodd of the team and for their high finish this season mid I know all of our lodge No. IA members are equally proud and pleased with the team effort and results for this season.

We wish to thank all of the players' wives, children, members plus friends of the team who attended and cheered for our team on the City Playofi's; it was appreciated by the team members. Thus, the regular season came to an end, we won one half of one league and another league outright, thus collecting two league trophies and a large trophy for finishing second place in the city; therefore it can be concluded to say, we have had a most succesful and enjoyable year.

There is always an ASA Tournament at the end of the season which is played at the Dallas Kiest Park and our team has entered this final tournament scheduled for August 14th.

We played the Dallas Eagles at Kiest No. 3 on Tuesday night, August 14 and we won our first game by a score of 4 t• 0. Jim Scoggins pitched a no-hitter, struck out 12 batters and gave up 2 walks which ruined a perfect game; it was an outstanding job on Jim's part and we are all very proud of the no hitter; also, it was a fun game because everyone had a chance to play and we had a good game. Leading hitters ware Dave Ellison with 2 singles and a walk, Jim Scoggins with 2 singles, Bill Skrabanek with 2 singles, Connie Brennan with a single, Harry Wilkerson with a single, Jeff Burton with a base-on-balls, Lawrence Bonn with a base-on balls, and Grover Moore with a base-on-balls.

'Thus, we move on to our second game scheduled for Wednesday night, August 15 and so forth until we lose 2 games or win the tournament which is not likely; although we could finish as high as third or fourth if we con tinue playing good ball. The final results will be covered in my next writeup.

REPORTS DISTRICT II SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT During July we sold 137 members for $462,000 in insurance sales. District II was No. 1 in members and sales. Congratulations to all of you. Our total for the year is 520 members for $1,990,000 in insurance sales.

The three top representatives were: No. 1 - Chester Shmoldas -- 66 members for $208,000 11 members No. 2 - Willie Dusek for $58,000 No. 3 - Ladis Navratil - 3 members for $50,000.

Three new representatives made their first sales. They are: Brother Weldon Bland, Acadermy No. 177; Brother John Heji, Austin No. 155; and Brother Edward Olson, Lovelady No. 74. Best of luck to all of you.

The SPJST has many benefits that so many members are not told about.

It's up to us to tell them when we are telling them about our various insurance plans.

There are still some of you sales representatives who did not write any insurance this year; let's not let the dust settle on our briefcases and pens.

Let's do a kind deed for someone who is in need of our services; if we try, we can look around us and we will find someone whom we can help.

The inflationary cost of living and everything that we buy is high in cost, but our life insurance premiums remain the same as they have been for years, some of our plans have even been lowered in cost, so this should help us to sell more. Let's remember people need us and they are buying; it is up to us to sell.

Based on a recent cost estimate, with the participants paying not more than $10 a month to cover their dependents, and if all Supreme Lodge officers, employees, and the editor took full coverage, the most it will cost the Society monthly to cover all these p e o p l e would be approximately $681.40. It will almost certainly be less since a few of the employees are already covered under their spouse's group hospitalization plan and would not take our plan.

This referendum and ballot, then, are being sent to the delegates of the last convention seeking an amendment to the provision passed in the XXIst Convention for their approval. We are asking that the ballots be returned to the secretary-treasurer of the Supreme Lodge postmarked no later than Sept.

STATE YAD — SUNDAY, SEPT. 9 TO: All Concerned This year's State Youth Achievement Day (Talent, Arts and Craft, Beseda) promises to be another big day and milestone in the history of the Youth Department of the SPJST. It should also be one of the best we have ever had.

If you are a contestant in anything, be sure that you register in time or are in line before registration time is over. Your cooperation is necessary because the people in charge of registration must then move on to other jobs.

(The schedule for this day follows this report.)

Please do not put your craft in the display area until after you register.

The lobby for the display is rather specious where you will be able to wait with your craft until you are able to re g ister. If you have a large craft or several crafts to enter, get your relatives or friends to help you ahead of time. We will again have large signs designating the various craft areas.

Contestants in talent are asked to announce their own selections. Remember that microphones will not hurt you so step right up so that you can be heard.

If possible, get your youth club posters to your DYC or get them to the YAD during registration time.

FROM THE DISTRICT YOUTH COUNSELORS DISTRICT NO. II CAI,,IP On August 2-3-1 and 5 District No. II held its camp at Camp Val Verde.

The weather was very pleasant for camping, it was a little on the warm side, but you need this for the swimmers. 78 -children attended camp this year and 14 leaders and chaperones, including Sister Dorothy Massey, syr.), and myself.

We had a full schedule of activities that kept everyone busy. The results of our camp were very rood as the children were not ready to go home yet, but they were tired and worn out from the long hours of activities put in each day. Some of them are already looking forward toward next year's camp.

I personally would like to thank the leaders and chaperones who were at camp for their help and assistance and for taking time out from their work to help take care of all these

Vill3TkitE children and to help lead them and teach them as they went on with their The parent also should thank their local leaders and chaperones. We must have these leaders and chaperones to have camp, as we could not hold camp without them. Thanks again. I also wish to thank the parents for bringing their children and the children for coming. Thanks also to Sister Dorothy Massey for hiring the staff and for her assistance during the entire camp; especially in crafts. Thank you Sister Massey. Also, thanks to Sis. Pat Tomastik, for being the camp nurse.

Camp is a great experience and lots of fun, tell your frineds to join your youth club so they could go to camp with you next year. If you have any different ideas about camp, please let us know what else you would want at camp.

Our Supreme Lodge President, Bro. Nick Morris, came to visit our camp and he visited the different activities that were taking place during his visit. While going to see the group of children that were riding horses, we found most of the children were out on a trail ride, but there were a few more horse saddled up and standing by the fence not being used. The man in charge asked Bro. Morris if he wanted to ride. He only got to ride for a short time. It seemed he would make a pretty good cowboy, at least he seemed to enjoy his ride. Bro. Morris then had to leave. WO enjoyed his visit and are glad he came by to visit our camp.

Once again, I wish to thank everyone of you who attended camp, for being helpful, and for the cooperation that we enjoyed.

Fraternally, Frank Klinkovsky District Youth Counselor (Camp photos later. —Ed.) FROM THE LODGE YOUTH LEADERS LODGE NO. 160, SAN ANGELO Dear Members and Readers: Our youth club has returned from camp happy but tired. We certainly had fun with the kids. They were very good sports.

On August 9th we toured Levi Straus factory. Buelah Collins was our tour guide along with Judson McCollum. We

were amazed at the techniques and machinery used. After our tour they gave us an informative talk about Levi Straus operation& I want to thank the Louis Pelzel family for letting us use their lovely patio for our meeting and watermelon feast.

Dr. Andrew Peter the new doctor at Robert Lee wild be our guest speaker at our next meeting on September 9th in Wall, Texas. He is a native of Czechoslovakia and came to the states in 1968. It was our pleasure to ,have him, visit us recently. His visit was a short one because he had a patient with an appendicitus attack and since the laboratory there wasn't set up he had to make a quick trip to Shannon Hospital for a definite diagnosis.

The youth planned a picnic at the lake in September and a tour of Gandy's Creamery; visit Sonora Caverns in October; a clothing drive and basket for needy in November and a Christmas party in December.

Fraternally, Beatrice Socha, Youth Leader -SPJSTLODGE NO. 172, PASADENA Dear Readers: We, the members of the youth club of Lodge 172 would like to remind all. members of District V to attend the fall meeting to be held in our lodge on October 7, 1973.

Brother Malek, our president and all executive committee members are all working very hard, in cooperation with the District V Officers to make this one of the most enjoyable days of the year. .A wonderful dinner has been planned you shouldn't miss this dinner, Sister Klechka, our kitchen manager has the magic touch) and there will be a- dance following the meeting featuring music for the young and old.

The youth of District V will also furnish entertainment along with a charity bazaar and a cake sale.

Let's all pull for a 100 percent attendance at this meeting, who knows, we may set some sort of record for an SPJST district meeting.

We had three prize ribbon winners at District YAD: Richard Malek. Larry Hosea and Jeannetta Kleclaka.

I think I had as much fun at the recent Beach Party as any of the youth members did. I !would once again like to thank the youth leader of Lodge 88, Sister Louise Knapick for the use of her beach house and congratulate our District Youth Counselor Sister Marlene Caraway for a job well done.

I would like to urge everyone who possibly can to attend State YAD on September 9th and Royalty September 23rd, our district winners need all the moral support they can get.

I and my wife are looking forward to meeting all the other youth leaders at the upcoming Seminar September 30th at Austin. I'm told this will be a fun filled and educational Seminar. would like to take this opportunity to publicly applaud the active members of our youth club of Lodge 172, they may be small in number but they are giants to me when it comes to doing their duties and working at the lodge. We had a great time at summer camp. Everything was so nice. We :had a wonderful staff of people to be with and work with. Everything was fine.

LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Members and Readers: The youth club held their meeting August 5th. The attendance was good.

Birthday celebrants for August were Karen Hykel, Larry Hromadka, Gary Parma, Delores Dobecka, Shirley Dobecka, Sister Georgia Wachamann, Bro. L B, Dobecka and our Assistant Youth Leader Rose Uptmor. Happy birthday to all of you! Debbie Uptmor baked the pretty cake; our thanks to you, Debbie.

On July 8 Brother and Sister Frank Lee Uptmor took the youth club on a hayride and wiener roast to the Aquilla Creek, but we got rained out so we went to the lodge building and had our party; they all had a good tune and thanks to the Frank Lee Uptniore family for taking us.

Then on July 15 the District III youth club held their swimming party. It also rained that Sunday, but the youth clabbers kept swimming and we all stayed; it truly was a nice party.

We had a big day on July 22nd (our annual picnic). I want to thank all of those who took care of the game tables, benches, the speaker, tents and those who worked in the games stands, donation of gifts; all those who worked with the cake walk and donated cakes and cake mixes; it was greatly appreciated. We couldn't do the work ourselves to have a successful 'annual picnic. Also my thanks to Brother and Sister Raymond Mattis and family for taking care of the fish pond for the youth club.

Those who went to District III camp were Henrietta Lander, Debbie Uptmor, Carol Dobecka, Doug Uptmor, David Dobecka and my Assistant Youth Leader Rose Uptmor. A good time was reported by all these members and they are ready to go back next year. I didn't get to go because I was unable to get off from my work in Waco.

Mrs. Jo Harrison of Georgetown is my assistant youth leader; she is a fine person and has had experience working with Girl Scouts. Mrs. Harrison has two daughters in the youth club.

DISTRICT FIVE YOUTH CLUB SP,IST Dear Members, District V youth club had an all day beach party August 4th at the beach home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knapick at Bolivar, with the aid and supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Caraway and many parents of the Junior s and Teens.

The menu was donuts 'and orange juice for breakfast, sandwiches and all the trimmings for lunch and hot dogs for supper. Mid-afternoon we all enjoyed ice cold watermelons by Brother Ernest Hanka, president of Lodge 88.

It was a very beautiful and busy day, from 8 a.m. Ill late. There was swimming at the beach, fishing, crabbing and all day long with games of croquet and horseshoe pitching. Many of us also enjoyed bike riding around the area sightseeing.

After supper we all gathered for picture taking and a short business meeting conducted by our President Lynn Wahlberg. Plans for our participation in the fall meeting in October At Pasadena were made. There were a number of youth clubs represented, with a total of 77 juniors and Teens and 33 Adults. Everyone had a great time and we're all looking forward to the next -youth party.

Fraternally, Lisa Blaha (13) Historian LODGE NO. 160, SAN ANGELO Dear Vestnik Readers, On Thursday, August 9, we held our meeting at Mrs. Pelzel's home. We would like to thank her and Mrs. Socha for the watermelon and the use of her patio for our meeting.

Before we held our meeting, we went to Levi Strauss to see how they manufacture pants. We were told that they can manufacture 10,000 pair of pants a day and they are still behind in their production.

In our meeting we made plans to go to see Gandy's Dairy and to go to our mother lodge meeting on September 9th.

We had watermelon and donuts for refreshments, and then everyone went his way.

On August 14, the juniors went swimming at the VA pool; afterward, we went to Furgason Park and ate watermelon. We had a great time.

The first place winners in craft are Peggy Kalina, Sheryl Marek and myself. We also cancelled our social last meeting and will have it this coming meeting.

We are going to play softball and then have homemade ice cream, cookies and soda pop. Also one guest can be invited by each member.

Also, on September 2, is my little sister's birthday. She will be eight years old.

Our meeting was called to order by our President Karen Dorotik. The pledge was led by Karen Kahanek and the prayer was led by Lisa Priesmeyer.

We talked about the outing that was going to be held at Meeks Camp, and was later changed to the American Legion Center. When everyone finishes eatin g their dinner, the children will go swimming at the pool. We also talked about State YAD which will be held Sunday, September 9, at Taylor High School.

After the meeting we drew for door prizes and had practiced for YAD. For

We talked about district YAD and those who are going to slate YAD. Our club members are a lso selling Christmas cards to raise money.

Hot dogs, chips and cold drinks were served. All tasted very good and it was enjoyed by all.

There is a dance every Saturday night at the lodge. There are some real good sounding bands, so ya'll come out and join us.

Dear Members and Readers: The Austin Lodge No. 155 and a newly formed youth lodge met on Saturday, July 28th for meetings and for a social. This was held at Apache Shores and our thanks to Mr. Palla for arranging the place for the meeting.

There was fun for everyone: swimming, horseback riding, lots of good food and things to drink. Our youth club would like to thank the Seaton Lodge No. 47 for their $10.00 donation which is greatly appreciated. Also. we would like to thank Mr. Frank Klinkovsky for the $5.00 donation and the U.S. flag. This will be proudly displayed at all of our meetings.

Our next meeting will he August 10th where we plan to be host and hostesses to the elder people at the Anaheim Home. As the first youth club of the Austin lodge, we are all enjoying helping to form this club. There is a lot of work to be done it is enjoyable work and it can be fun doing it.

Anyone wishing to join; we would love to have some new members, they can write or contact Mrs. Dale Jezisek. She will be glad to assist you in becoming a member of our youth club.

After Sally's interesting talk about Europe; I'm sure most of us will be looking forward to our own trip to Europe.

I would like to thank Sally very much for her very interesting speech.

The roll call, reading of the minutes and the report on dues followed.

Donnie Hlavaty gave us a report on the swimming party which was held in Vanderbilt on July 24th. David Drastata then told us about the recent district YAD. New business centered around selling the Christmas cards and State YAD. Each member is required to sell five (5) boxes of • Christmas cards at $2 per box. These cards are very nice and are going very well, so please do your share to make this project a success.

Our youth leader then talked to us about various things.

Melany Drastata was the only member present who had a birthday in Aug. Happy Birthday, Melany!

Refreshments of homemade strawberry and vanilla ice cream were then enjoyed by the eight members, three adults and two guests. I would like to thank the two mothers who made the delicious ice cream: Mrs. Hlavaty and Mrs. Raybon. Thank you very much.

I hope to see everyone at our next meeting on September 10 after school.

Club, member of the Retired Postal Employees Association, American Legion Bill Roper Post No. 304, Christ the King Men's Club, the National Council of Catholic Men and the Corpus Christi Council for Retarded Children and also a member of the Sokol Corpus Chris= ti organization for several years and a member of the local Lodge No. 56, SPJST, since October 27,. 1933.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine; a daughter, Miss Susan Ann Regmund and a son, Jerry John Regmund, both of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Krusinsky of Katy and Miss Annie Regmund of Corpus Christi and two brothers, Louis Regmund of Corpus Christi and Wm. C. Regmund of Houston.

Brother Elsik was born in Nelsonville on December 13, 1886 and lived in Bell County most of his life. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Ocker Brethren Church and joined the SPJST on November 4, 1928.

Surviving are a sister,. Mrs. Terezie Hozak of Wallis; a brother, Anton Elsik of Baytown, and a number of nieces and nephews.
