AUGUST 8, 1973
FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK ' ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS AND ESPECIALLY CORRESPONDENTS: Effective August 15, 1973 we are moving the deadline for material to be published in the !following issue of the Vestnik to THURSDAY. Improvements at the Cechoslovak Publishing Company are being instituted, and various other reasons, force us to advance the deadline in order to meet the new schedule. We hope our correspondents will understand and will arrange their mailing schedules to conform to our new policy. We appreciate your cooperation and are looking forward to working with everyone to make our Vestnik an even better publication than it is today. 0 o Iri this column, last week, we stated that we would refer to the Excerpts of the Minutes of the July Supreme Lodge Meeting and we are doing so. In this issue, you will find under the heading: Office of Supreme Lodge, a letter to: The Delegates of the XXIst Convention. Read it carefully! A sample ballot follows the letter. In the convention yours truly stated that I felt it my duty to the membership (and delegates) to keep them informed and call attention to the important issues, decisions, and happening in our Society. Reprinted here are portions of the
WHAT DO WE PLANT What do we plant When•we plant the tree? We plant the ship that will cross the sea, We plant the mast to carry the sails, We plant the planks to withstand the gales — The keel, the keelson, and beam and knee — We plant the ship when we plant the tree. —Henry Abbey minutes from column 2, last 2 paragraphs, and 4 paragraphs from column 3 of page 14 of the August 1 issue of our Vestnik: "President Morris brought up the hospitalization plan for the Supreme Lodge officers, employees and editor. Action on this matter had been postponed from the last meeting. "It was moved that the board go on record that we recommend a hospitalization plan similar to a proposed plan that was explained in detail in the meeting, and this plan would include the officers, employees and editor. Seconded and carried. "Recess for lunch was taken at 12:00 noon and the meeting reconvened at 1:30 p.m. "A motion was made that a referen-
dum be submitted to delegates• of the XXI Convention that the authority granted to the Supreme Lodge be amended to read that the Supreme Lodge be authorized to put into effect a group hospitalization plan for Supreme Lodge officers, employees and the editor and their respective dependents and the cost of same be paid by the SPJST and the participant, providing however, that the part of the participant, shall not exceed $10.00 per month. Seconded and carried. "Following a discussion it was moved that the same procedure be used in sending out the referendum as was used on the last referendum. Motion seconded and carried. "It was agreed that the referendum be sent within 30 days." You have over a month's time to consider this issue and you are advised to give this your fraternal consideration, discuss this with your membership and act democratically on the issue. It is regrettable that this was not brought before the convention, however, your editor wishes to remain neutral and is merely calling your attention to what is involved, such as: who would be insured (members working for our SPJST Society and their dependents), cost to the Society, etc. Think these things out, discuss them and, in the final analysis, vote as your judgment dictates.
