FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, July 29 — District VII YAD at Lodge No. 117, Robstown • • Sunday, July 16 — It was gratifying to be in attendance at the District VI YAD which took place at Lodge 30 in the Talton Community Center. Many contestants, both male and female, registered in many various categories, thus creating much interest in their new friends who were also in attendance. With the seven active youth clubs, there was a tremendous amount of arts and crafts neatly exhibited for judging in the designated section. All talent and royalty contestants captured the hearts of the entire audience. It is amazing how these youngsters develop so much courage and share their hidden talent from year to year. A handsome youngster with a beautiful voice ( a future Eddie Arnold) in the 10-12 age entry sang a beautiful song that could also entertain many famous western recording stars; the trio) in the 13-17 talent group played and sang an appropriate Czech song with a fine rhythm, which was appreciated by the many American-Czech speaking members and guests who feel that these youngsters (trio) will continue having the initiative and, endeavor to continue their Czech singing and go forward with their talents. CURSED Cursed be the social mants-that sin against the strength of youth! Cursed be the social lies that warp us from the living truth! Cursed be the sickly forms that err from honest Nature's rule! Cursed be the gold that gilds the straiten'd forehead of the fool! —Tennyson way with all the honors at the YAD; their accomplishments are almost too numerous to mention, however, DYD Elsie Brdecka has a complete coverage of the YAD results in this issue, and we want to refrain from repetition. With the nice and fun-filled Youth Achievement Day in District VI, we feel certain that the afternoon was enjoyed by all. This, of course, is credited to DYC Elsie Brdecka, DYC Assistant Pauline Kalina, and the many youth leaders who were functioning in their designated places which requires good teamwork and makes for a successful YAD. Miss Patsy Kalina, (580, former state queen, did a magnificent job emceeing the larger portion of the youth program District VI Director Paul Sablatuta and SYP Dorothy Massey distributed numerous merit awards to many jubilant youngsters.

Our compliments and congratulations to all, the winners who will be participating on the state level. .• • Wednesday,; July 18, your editor attended the third quarterly meeting of the Supreme Lodge. This week we will finish an editorial we had begun some time ago and will write about the SL meeting later. Your editor has to agree with the contents of Brother George Kacir's letter the "Letters" section on page 5 of the May 9, 1978 issue of the Vestn iV, (center column). If a secret ballot type4 of voting is to be respected, then his suggestion is certainly to be desired. His letter follows: April 30, 1973 Dear Fellow-members: The referendum submitted recently received my affirmative vote, but it reminded me of suggestions I had made heretofore to another organization. A number of people mentioned that referendum voting should be by secret ballot. Such constructive criticism can be met very easily. The ballot submitted to the delegates can have a stub such as we have in state or county elections. The stub can be signed with addition thereon of the local lodge inuiaber. The ballot can be sealed in a ballot envelope, and the ballot envelope and the stub placed in
