JULY 18, 1973
FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK District V YAD, July 22, at Lodge No. 88', Houston. e We promised to write more about the Lodge No. 74, Lovelady opening of' their new lodge home on July 4. When we arrived there was a large and lively crowd already assembled and friends from many other lodges were present. We saw so many of our longtime acquaintances that they are too numerous to try to mention here, and we met many new fraternalists. Mention will be made of some as we proceed, however, first let us state that all of the officers and members of Lodge 74 are to be commended for their tireless efforts. Of course, Lodge 74 President Hafner and Sales Representative Shmoldas were probably the main Motivators of the project, but it took many members working in harmony to accomplish what they did. Our thanks to all for the courtesies, well-wishes and the good time we enjoyed. Your editor sat down at a small table with two "oldtimers" Brother Joe Ska7 licky, Sr., and Brother Pavel Strban, both of Crockett, who both probably sumed up the meaning of the occasion of the revived Lodge No. 74 best. They made statements such as: "Who would have thought this could ever happen!" We have been asleep so long and now we have a lodge home!" And when the Seaton Choral Club sang
RECIPE FOR A HOME Half a cup of friendship And a cup of thoughtfulness Creamed together with a pinch Of powdered tenderness. Very lightly beaten In a bowl of loyalty With a cup of faith, and one of hope, And one of charity. Be sure to add a spoonful each Of gaiety — that sings And also the ability To-laugh-at-insignificant-things. Moist with the sudden tears Of heartfelt sympathy; Bake in a good-natured pan And serve repeatedly. —Author Unknown "At the Spring" ("Ustudanky"), both, with dimmed eyes, intently listened and Brother Skalicky remarked: "Boy, who would have, thought that these East Texas piney woods would ever hear that beautiful Czech song again!" We sat and chatted together for about an hour and reminisced about by-gone days when your editor's father and mother would load our family of four children in the Model-T Ford and we would go visit our parents' friends (whom they had made acquaintance with through their letters to the Vestnik) in Trinity, Groverton, Moscow,
and Lovelady (all in that East Texas area). One family your editor recalls is the Esterak family in that area. The thought remains: How time flies! At any rate, it was a really enjoyable day — all of it. Keep up the good work! With the many SFJST district activities held annually throughout the state, we were privileged again to witness a nice YAD which took place in District II, Sunday, July 8, at Lodge 24, Cyclone. Each year the youth endeavor to have some type of entry in various categories that require a suitable place for accommodation and comfort for all to enjoy. The host lodge truly had such conveniences for everyone present to enjoy last Sunday. Upon our arrival a cloudburst took place and we were unable to enter the building to witness the beginning (ages 6-9) Individual Talent contest. Although, we feel certain they were wellperformed as were the ones we witnessed. The arts and crafts department was well exhibited for the judges to inspect and make their decisions. A large display of entries attracted many viewers after the results of the contest were announced; also the royal court ceremonies and other awards which followed; all were under the supervision of SL Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska and SYD Dorothy Massey.
