The SPJST, Sokol, and other organizations and many members have contributed money to this project and now IT IS UP TO YOU, STUDENTS! • • In January, 1969, when your editor moved to West to become the SPJST Society's editor of the Vestnik, there were a number of thoughts in his mind. Uppermost was the idea that he do his utmost to do a good, rewarding job for our Society and, second, that he carry out the purposes for which our SPJST was founded. One of those purposes was that we, in our SPJST, do our best to educate our members in the English and Czech languages. Your editor remembers the words of his

THE CASTLE ON THE HILL There is no moat around these towers There are no archers strong and tall, But all about them grow the flowers, Which match the ivy on the wall. From the hill it spreads its glory To all those who turn and look. Telling them its grand old story, Hidden in its age-old book. From the back this castle, lying Brightly in the summer light, Seems the children always trying, Measuring its splendid height. To this castle walk the scholars, For this castle is a school. There they study many hours, Proud of this old faithful tool. In the back there lies a lake, With ice on which the children spill, As they glide along and skate, Behind the Castle on the Hill. —Pamela Kyncl father, a person who was highly respected: "Learn the English language as perfectly as you can; this is the United States, our country, and it is the language of our country; however, try to retain your Czech language which you have been taught, you will never regret it and will be proud of it." Indeed, how true, your editor would not

be in the position he now holds, had he not heeded his father's advice. Students, do not let this opportunity pass you by! • • And while on the subj ect of students, your editor, for our SPJST Society, wishes you the best in your future. Remember this remark made by a very intelligent philosopher concerning his father: "When I was 15, I could not understand how the old man could be so dumb, and then, at the age of 21, I could not understand how he had learned so much in 6 years." GOOD LUCK! • • The following was sent to us from the NFC in March to be published immediately prior to Flag Day. • • NATIONAL FRATERNAL WEEK The SPJST is joining the 95 other fraternal benefit societies affiliated with the National Fraternal Congress of America in observing Fraternal Week, June 8-14, and placing special emphasis on National Flag Day, June 14. Members of all of these societies -more than ten million in total — are urged to remind all Amerkans on Flag Day that a rebirth of patriotism is needed to focus worldwide attention on the enduring values of our free society. All fraternalists are urged to celebrate at that time by holding and attending patriotic cer-
