APRIL 25. 1973

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday morning, April 29, at 2 a.m. Central Daylight Saving Time goes into eIfect, so remember to set your clock AHEAD one hour. On the last Sunday in April, which is spring, you spring forward, and the last Sunday in October (six months later) in the fall, you "fall back", so said the radio announcer.

Also, on April 29, Districts IV and VII have their meetings; District IV at Lubbock and District VII at Floresville. Check the Bulletin Board and attend your district meeting! • The District • II meeting Sunday, April 15 in Holland was well attended and informative and enjoyable. , It was interesting and encouraging to see more than one member accepting nominations for several offics. • • Dallas Lodge 84's Softball Team's Annual Benefit Dance is this Saturday, April 28. You'll enjoy the Johnny Mensik music and the fellowship — attend. The team is doing a good job of representing our SPJST and has done so for a number of years. • Fraternalism is strong throughout our country today. Well, it should be, for fraternalism is symbolic of Americanism. If there was ever a time when strengthened Americanism was needed, it is today. Fraternal organizations

THE MONTHS January brings the snow, Makes our feet and fingers glow. February brings the rain, Thaws the frozen lake again. March brings breezes sharp and chill, Shakes the dancing daffodil. April brings the primrose sweet, Scatters daisies at our feet. May brings flocks of pretty lambs, Sporting round their fleecy darns. June brings tulips, lilies, roses, Fills the children's hands with posies. Hot July brings thunder-showers, Apricots, and gilly-flowers. August brings the sheaves of corn; Then the harvest home is borne. Warm September brings the fruit; Sportsmen then begin to shoot. Brown October brings the pheasant, Then to gather nuts is pleasant. Dull November brings the best --Hark! the leaves are whirling fast. Cold December brings the sleet, Blazing fire, and Christmas treat. —Sara Coleridge are steeped in the tradition of high ideals and patriotism. Bhow me a de-

voted fraternalist and I will show you a devoted member of the community and a good American. Nowhere is this more pronounced than in our family fraternity, the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas' (SPJST). Fraternal organizations have survived through wars, depressions and other calamities that have befallen this nation. They are among the finer establishments of the American scene. It can be truly said that they are a cornerstone of our great democracy. Our SPJST Society was conceived in the minds of sincere and honest men who were the dreamers of great dreams. Into our fledgling organization they breathed the breath of life and implanted the principles that have engendered and sustained our growth. We have particular characteristics handed down from these pioneer founders . . . love for country and patriotism . . . respect for the old traditional American ideals. We are living in a fast-moving age . . . much of the American scene of yesterday is changed today. But we should not allow basic traits that we in SPJST and in our fraternal world hold dear, to become old-fashioned in our hearts and minds. In the strength of the approach, the goals that we can attain tomorrow are beyond the measure of our vision today.
