Your editor always believes as long as Texans and others in our country can meet together in a spirit of brotherhood and goodwill to present the folk Songs and dances of their choice, regardless of their race, nationality or creed, we can rest assured that cultural freedom, now denied many people of the universe, is still our precious heritage. The fact that such gatherings can take place in these troubled days when racial and national antagonism sweep the world, is one of the proofs of our democracy we claim and are struggling to hold and make more real. When we endeavor to express some of our objectives in a few words, we fail. Therefore, we shall mention a few of the aims and leave it to Texans to find out for themselves what we have already experienced about the fun and satisfaction, after they have been a part of either a community or international folk festival. We would like to emphasize that there is more

WHAT IS LIFE INSURANCE? A LIFE insurance policy is just a time-yellowed piece of paper with columns of figures and legal phrases, until it is baptized with a widow's tears.

It , quiets the crying of a hungry baby at night. It eases the aching heart of a bereaved widow. It is a comforting whisper in the dark, silent hours of the night. It is a new hope, new courage and strength for the mother to pick up the broken threads of life and carry on. It is a college education for the sons and daughters — a chance for a career instead of a need for a job. It is father's parental blessings to the children on their wedding day.

It is the function of father's hopes and planes for his family's future.

There is no death. Life insurance is a plan that exalts life and defeats death.

It is the premium we pay for the privilege of living after death. genuine satisfaction and, we are convinced, more real fun, if festival leaders encourage more people in their district who have inherited folk expres-

sions to present them in genuine traditional style.

• • Some of the objectives we wish to mention are: to encourage the uP le: of folk songs, legends, music, dances and other activities to help assemble current day recreational needs for both urban and country people; to help preserve and keep the traditional expressions which reflect life as it has been lived in Texas, in the U.S., and in other countries from which our people originated; to make use of the wealth of inherited cultural legacies which have poured into Texas, as to create a much better understanding and stronger unity of people of the state; and to develop a better appreciation of the fundamental cultures of our entire world neighbors by presenting through demonstrations, the several universal similarities of the deeply-rooted folk traditions of our people who emigrated from many faraway lands.

• • When we speak of the lodge secretary, we mean it is generally recognized and rightly so, that the lodge is the foundation of the fraternal beneficiary system; but it is equally true, we believe, that the local lodge secretary is the one individual more than anyone else who determines the stability of that foundation.

Wednesday, March 21, 1973 in the U.S. and Canada. It is their job to give tangible meanin,g to the abstract term, "Fraternalism." It is their responsibility to interpret the Society to the member. Since there are several million members of the American fraternal benefit societies, and these members, with their immediate families, make up, conservatively, a group of several million individuals, it follows that the local secretary's job is one of no mean proportions.

Between .member and Society, we believe we may say then that the most important function of the local secretary is that of serving as the contact between the member and his Society.

In fact, we may go further and say that this is his real job. Everyone knows that during wartime it is important that the attacking infantry keep close contact with its supporting artillery. The job of maintaining his contact is handled by a liaison officer who must have a thorough understanding of the problems that confront both arms of the service if he is to perform his job effectively. The local secretary is the liaison officer of the fraternal army so to speak. As such, a secretary must have a sympathetic understanding of the needs of the members and of the problems of the governing body.

He or she must represent the governing body to the member and must present the member's case to the governing body.

The official duties of a lodge secretary are enumerated in a Society's by-laws. These duties are important ones and their proper discharge is essential to the Society and to the member, but those are the routine duties of the office. The very nature of these duties, however, brings the local secretary into much closer touch with the member than is the privilege of any other officer of the Society, local or supreme. It follows then that the local secretary is the best informed of any official of a Society on the problems and needs of the local members.

In some lodges a local secretary's unofficial duties soon come to include those of confidential advisor, lay underwriter or lay actuary, if there is such a functionary and claim expert.

If the local lodge is no longer active and its meetings are infrequent and attendance is scanty, the local secretary's job becomes even more difficult and, if possible, more important than is true with an actively functioning lodge. Then the local secretary be-

Wednesday, March 21, 1973 comes, for the member the only tangible contact he or she has with their Society. Then the secretary must add to his other duties that of promoter.

It is his enthusiasm alone that now keeps alive the dying membership of the dormant lodge and it largely rests with him whether or not that membership shall again be fanned into the flame of an active lodge.

In the meantime, a local secretary is the lodge to the local members and it is this secretary to whom the home office must look for advice and counsel on the many questions that come up concerning the best interests of the local membership.

And finally, there is the local secretary's responsibility to the beneficiaries of a member who has reached the end of his journey. There is probably no better opportunity for performing a real service to his Society, or a more important one, than at a time like this. Will the widow, son or daughter come away with a feeling that there was something more to dad's certificate than a mere right to a contractual payment? The answer to that question rests largely with the man or woman who represents the Society at that time.

In most instances, we dare say, the principal incentive for the local secretary is the opportunity afforded to do something for his Society. Were it not for this interest in the Society and a willingness to serve the Society, regardless of the compensation involved, it would soon become difficult, if not impossible, to fill the gaps in this vast army to devoted workers in the cause of fraternalism. The Society can only come into the lives of its members vicariously through its official notices and its period conventions, but the local secretary comes into the lives of the members as a living force every day.

A lodge secretary is the Society in its locality. Upon any secretary of a local lodge, to a large extent, rests the success or failure of its Society in its locality. It has rested there for many years during which the American fraternal beneficiary system has been in existence and, thus far, it has rested securely.

BROTHER JERRY BARTOS Environmental engineer Jerry Bartos, has announced his candidacy for Place 3 on the Dallas City Council, caning himself "the people's candidate."

He is 40 years of age and president of Bartos, Inc. He pointed out that his decision to enter the council race was in no way connected with his business interests.

Bartos, Inc., is engaged in the engineering, representation and distribution of environment control devices.

Bartos is a director of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce active in numerous civic, church and school affairs and a 1972 nominee for Small Business Administration "man of the year" award. A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Bartos, his wife and three daughters live at 6051 Desco Drive, Dallas. He is a member of Lodge 139 and Sokol Zizka. His maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Rezek, were longtime members of Lodge 130 and his paternal grandparents were

Discussion then followed on the election of a youth leader. Sister Helen Za.bransky was nominated and elected to serve another year as youth leader.

Sister Zabransky accepted and will select an assistant to be named at our next meeting.

The members were reminded of the District VI meeting to be held in Taiton on March 25.

Further business was discussed followed by distribution of the refund checks. The meeting was then adjourned.

The afternoon was spent in conversation and playing games. 'Refreshments and lunch were served. March birthdays honored were Ida Neubauer, Hermina Vasek, Albina Spanihel, August Holub, and Emery Gallia who won the cake. Marcie Holy won the adult door prize and Jeanie Zak the youth door prize.

The next meeting will be Sunday, April 8, in the Grant Building, beginning at 2 p.m.

President Brother Eric Stein called the meeting to order. All present recited the pledge of allegiance to our flag.

Sister Beyer read the minutes from the previous meeting. They were accepted as read.

Sister Rosie Tumis gave her financial secretary's report. Also, Sister Erline Janik gave her treasurer's report.

He spoke to us about the Czech language. We were glad to have you with us, Brother Karas.President Brother Stein will be a sales representative for our lodge. We all know that Brother Stein will make progress, because he really thinks a lot of Lodge No. 142.

On our sick list we had Sister Rosie Tumis and Brother Ladik. Ennis and our social member, Howard Kieschnick, Who were all in the hospital. All were sent get-well cards. We wish all of you a speedy recovery and the best of health in the future. We also want to wish our Supreme Lodge President, Brother Nick Morris, a speedy recovery and hope he will be blessed with good health.

Brother and Sister James and Delores Blahuta donated a used television to our lodge. Many thanks.

We also donated $15 for one-quarter page for the Sokol Houston Gymnastic Association Souvenir Program Book.

Our Auditing Committee audited the books and found them in satisfactory condition.

On Saturday, February 17, we held our ground-breaking ceremonies. It really did snow that morning and then in the afternoon it rained. I think that day will be long treasured and remembered by all who attended this special occasion. We were proud to have Brother and Sister Tom and Marlene Caraway with us that day. They also took a lot of pictures of our ceremonial day.

We want to thank you for everything you have done and hope you all will drop by to see us again. We really did appreciate it.

We had our sausage and sauerkraut dinner that day. We want to personally thank all you dear brothers and sisters who worked that day, namely: Sisters Adela Stein, Emilie Hamala, Lillie Melnar, Erline Janik and Brother Leo Linhart. I think we owe our kitchen manager Sister Stein and her crew a special thanks for always doing such a wonderful job. I also want to thank Sister Delores Blahuta for helping me out with selling the dinner tickets and the cake walk.

After the fine finish of second in the C i ty of Dallas last year, we hope to again have a fine team and our goal will be the same as in 1972 or better. W' will have about the same team roster, perhaps a new name or two end we will lose two or three from last year's team.

We have been working out on Sunday afternoons for the past two weeks and plan to work out every Sunday until the league play begins around the week of April 18th. We will also have workouts under the lights probably once cc twice each wash before the first league game. I will be the team manager this season; Albin (Wino) Vrana and Paul Valenta will assist me, and Wiley Beesley will be our team captain. If you have any ouestions about the team or interest in trying out for the team, please feel free to call any of us on the phone. There are two main requirements — that you are a, member of the SPJST and that you can play and make the team, we welcome you to try because we need you.

LODGE NO. 9, SNOOK Dear Readers: The March meeting opened with a moment of silence for departed members, Minnie Lewis and Frances Jakubik. Deep sympathy is expressed to their bereaved families.

There will be a domino tournament March 24, at 7:30 p.m. and hamburgers will be sold at fifty cents each from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

OUr next meeting will be Wednesday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m., due to previous engagements on Sunday. There will be no basket lunch.

There will also be a dance, April 7, with music by the Music Masters.

LODGE NO. 25, ENNIS Dear Members, There have not been any letters from any of our members in the) Vestnik in several weeks and my report has been among the missing ones; so, since my memory was jogged by the president of the lodge, who also happens to be my husband! I decided that I had better spend a little time on a letter to the Vestnik or else.

In our recent meeting for the month of March, the committee reports have been exceptionally good, which indicates that it took the effort and hard work of many of our members to achieve these outstanding reports. It is surprising how much more can be achieved with a kind word and a willingness to help. With more and more of our membership becoming involved with helping out, whenever they are called upon, a better and more friendly attitude, is becoming more and more

evident. This is what it is all . about.

A brOtherly and more comradely feeling with not just one or two or three members, but with all. This is one of the very noticeable traits about our association; that is, we all get together and work together.

With the Ennis Polka Festival com-ing up in May, plans are going along toward the completion point, so that this one will be better than the last.

Many visitors from our state and outof-state look forward to this annual event. It is so tremendous that it takes the efforts of many cf, our members, and the respective members of other lodges here in Ennis to make this Polka Festival one of the most talked about in the state.

What started out on a. small scale, has now grown into a. full-sized festival. With a parade, street dancing; food, and polka, dancing at four different lodge buildings, there just isn't too much else to do. So, do start planning now for the first weekend in May. Don't miss the annual Polka Festival here in Ennis. Maybe you will see many of your friends from all over the state and get to dance to your favorite band.

Strangely enough I have not seen any anouncement in the Vestnik of the District III meeting and where it will be held this year. Other districts have announced theirs, so perhaps ours will also be announced before too long, for there are many members who look forward to the district meeting, and I am' sure that it also is just around the corner.

Our youth club is becoming very active now that the weather is becoming warmer and for those who have not been attending, I can tell you that you will be: missing out on a lot of funactivities if you don't watch out. So better check up and see what is going on; you may get left out.

UNICE NO. 20, GRANDER Dear Friends, Our youth club is doing very well so far. We don't have a whole lot of members but the ones we have are always faithful.

So far this year we had a nature hike which the children enjoyed because it was a beautiful day. Afterward we had refreshments and games.

We went to Georgetown to see "Jack the Giant" which was put on by the Georgetown Community Theatre. The children all agreed it was the best play we have seen so far. Afterward, everyone headed for the Dairy ,Queen.

This week Mr. Frank Klinkovsky is going to attend our meeting and explain some of the details of the spring meeting, YAD, and camp. He is bringing us new rule books. We are all looking

forward to your visit Mr. Klinkovsky.

Later this month we are going skating. Next month we will see another play in Georgetown. We are especially looking forward to seeing this play 'h. cause one of our youth members, Tammy Diouhy will be in the play.

There are a few people I would like to thank. First I give my love and thanks to the wonderful children in Our youth club. I have enjoyed each and everyone of you.

Fraternally, Rita Marburger .-aPJ LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON IILAHOL DRAMATIC CLUB NOTES Dear Members, This is a gentle reminder that the Hlahol Dramatic Club is now rehearsing for "She's My Daisy," a three-act comedy that keeps the audience hilariously interested from beginning to end.

We hope we can look for you and do bring your friends, on April 1st, at .2 p.m. And for those interested in a good chicken dinner, you may be served from 11:30 until it is time to call it a day. But do stop long enough to see "`Daisy."

For other details, you may refer to the Vestnik, but I will tell you now that a dance follows the performance and your admission ticket to the play entitles you to this dance,. Just think, the entire afternoon at only $1 per person!

And now to go back to the performance of "Babicka z Moravy" which was presented on February 2,5th.

We had a very good attendance from far and near. Our friends from Dallas arrived in a chartered bus, the arrangements for which were made by Sisters Agnes Houdek, and Annie Steiner. I want to express my thanks for their coming and for showing So

much interest. We also had visitors from Fort Worth, Waco, Corpus Chris- ti, Rosenberg and Galveston. All these 'kind friends made us feel that there is a strong feeling toward the Czech plays. Thanks to all.

Again I would like to add that our group of actors and members did a splendid job to make, the day a success. Just think how much work is involved in presenting a play. We owe so 'much to our make-up artists, Harriette Allison and Tim Kostom, to our wardrobe mistress, Annie KiMar, to our ticket and door committees and to our back-stage and props group. These, are the ones who work behind the scenes; yet without them all this work would fail en the shoulders, of the directors and; as you know, their responSibilities on the stage as actors presents no small obligation.

I'll close by reminding you that the Choral Club under the direction of Brother Tim Kostcm. will sing at the National Folk Festival in Galveston, March 24th. Come out and join in this 'celebration. Read more about this in the Vestnik.

President Brother Rudy Liainer asked for a prayer for everyone, with thoughts for the sick, especlally those who had to be confined 'the hospital, wishing all a speedy recovery.

There was much discussion concernhag our new lodge building; all so very interesting. It really will be all our 'members' prids, and joy and we also Want to share this happiness with all who are interested.

SiSter Mary Alice Burgess of Houston (formerly of Lovelady) visited the past Meeting and she was really impressed with the enthusiasm shown on our progress. Sister Burgess is a member of Ledge 88 and is proud to be an SPJST Member, who is enjoying the friendship and enOrtaimnent our fraternal SOciety provides; she claims it is the best recreation from the duties , of daily life in office and homework.

• _ We have ten new members this past month. Brother Chester Shmoldas, our lodge sales representative, is busy hust-

ling for new members, rain or shine, always on the go; and Sister Bertha Shmoldas is always busy with bookkeeping in secretarial work for which, I understand is time! consmning.

We indeed have some very generous m embers. Mr. R. P. Bornhill worked up the road With a Caterpillar, clearing one acre of land and right away, and Lakne will work 'Lhe, parking area and clean the rest' of the SPJST acreage, all donated — work, time and expense Of his Caterpillar. Brother Chesi(n: Simicidas has already raked the inn1s out one afterpoen with his equipment. Mr. J. D. McCullar with Brother Shmolelas plan to sod the acreage for parking to keep the sand from rolling. We appreciate all the efficient work done and are so thankful for all the work the)'.ie generous gentleman provided. Our lodge officers are also donating several hours of their time. For instance, Sister Snlith, recording secretary, Sister Alice Ilafncr, and r Mathews are busy with the youth members. 'Their youth meeting is on the first Thursday every month at 0:30 p.m. in the recreation hall of the Presbyterian Church in Crockett.

There is a change in the date of our forthcoming monthly meeting. It will be held on Saturday, March 31st in the Community Center in Crockett. The reason for this is that we could not get the use of the place! on April 1st because it was spoken for by some .church group. Brother Rudy Ranier rents the building for $5 per meeting.

We have high hopes of having meetings in our new home Lodge 74 in Lovelady. The loan was signed and sent oil so we have hopes the weather will cooperate and the foundation be dry to start soon.

We are glad to report that Sister Annie Langer is improved and is now at home and recuperating nicely. It was also good to see one of our charter members, Sister Paprskar attend the last meetin g after being absent for a few times. The youth had a lot of fun with a candle painting project at our last :meeting.

A Sunday afternoon dance on May 20 is - being planned by the youth club as a fund-raising project to refurnish and redecorate their meeting rooms.

Music will be by the popular Czech Mates of Dallas with dancing from 1to R. Your help in supporting this activity will be appreciated.

We are especially indebted to, Bro. Joe Lynn Krivanek for starting to work with the youth who have musical talent and instruments. If you have a child or grandchild, who is interested, please, contact Joe Lynn. It will take a lot of practice and hard work, so please give Bro. Krivanek all the help you can.

Hopefully the youth will be able to perform. for our mother's and father's day program and also enter YAD with a musical number.

Sister Donna Hubenak reported that the dues for the Ladies Circle are very nominal and everyone who attends always has a lot of fun. Many events are planned for 1971 COming up on Saturday March 24, will be great big special dance with music by the Bill Kucera Czech Mates of Dallas. If you really want a treat, come out and see the Czech Mates drummer do "his thing."

These three men made up theCzechoslovak 1. -a,tional Council which condestinies of the Cz:ich peotrolled ple an° ;. 'J' fight for freedom and ex• .re,, diiirioP:, and after World War I. •.; same body was the nucleus instrumental in the formation of the First Czechoslovak Republic and the government of that newly created state at the end of World War I. Masaryk served as president and Minister of the

VESTNfIC Interior, Benes was named Foreign Secretary, and Stefanik was named Minister of War. Before the trio returned to their homeland, their headquarters were in Paris, France. While Benes ran affairs from Paris, Masaryk and Stefanik travelled all over the world drumming up support from various Allied governments and promoting the idea of a new and independent Czechoslovak state. Stefanik also spent some time in the U.S. and did a lot of essential groundwork that later proved valuable to Masaryk. He managed to reach high government officials and ranking military men and keep them informed about Czech aims. He was acts,: in recruiting volunteers in the U.S. to fight in the struggle for Czechoslovak independence. This matter of recruiting volunteers in the United States had to be carefully handled, lest it interfere with the government's effort to unify all nationalities behind its war program. Stefanik understood this when he went to the United States in 1917, and asked that he. be allowed to invite Czechoslovak were rnt liable for American military servi • e. Between the cad of 1917 and the summer of r._3 a. total of 2,500 Czechs and `_„ yaks were secured as voluntecne in the Czechoslovak army in FrwrIzs_:. When Stefanik returned to Inarope from the U.S. at the beginning of November, 1917, he brought with him eighty such volunteers, the first to be enlisted.

Thus, the struggle for an independent Czechoslovakia went on abroad as vigorously as in the homeland itself, and Stefanik played a vital role in that struggle through his diplomatic and political efforts. The aim of this liberation movement abroad was to convince the allied and associated nations that the Czechoslovak people who, more than three hiadred years, had •g yoke toustituted cultural and ',as entitled to its own no an hideiindiint state.

General Stefanik was instrumental in organizing such units in Great Britain, Russia, Canada, and Italy. These units distinguished themselves in all battles in which they participated in Siberia, Stefanik's main task was to bolster and refUrbish the sagging morale and spirit of the Czech Legions there. The history of the triumphs and exploits of the 70,000 Czechoslovak Legionnaires is a niStOrie yolame, in itself, and Stefanik played a large role in that situation. To, this day, the graVes of Czech Legionnaires cover fields in France, Italy, Siberia, Serbia, from' the Atlantic to the Pacific, and in Canada. This war of liberation abroad was thus already a Czech tradition, all the more effective because those who started and organized it were still alive and familiar with the techniques of such a struggle.

During the period 1914-1918, this effort was carried on throughout the world by the triumvirate of Masaryk, Benes, and Stefanik, who co•ordinated the efforts of Czechs and Slovaks throughout the world to promote the liberation of their people by material, moral, and military means.

Stefanik's great assets were a, pleasing personality, tremendous intellect, and his intense concern for his people.

Although he was outside Czechoslovakia for so long, he did so much for his native land and worked hard for an independent and, free state. Due largely to his groundwork efforts, the New Czechoslovakia, was given immediate recognition after the war something so necessary for a fledgling nation.

Milan Rastislav Stefanik was born July 21, 1880, in the village of lz,:osiarky near BreZova in Slovakia. He came, from an intensely JAriotic Slovak .family. His father was an Evangelical minister. He was expelled from the Hungarian dominated schools of Emperor Franz Josef because of his intens2o nationalistic views. He left his native Slovakia to study in Prague, where he soon made the acquaintance of his philosophy professor, Thomas Masaryk. After getting his Ph. D diploma in astronomy at Charles University, he left for Paris, France. He was about 22 years of age at that time.

He joined the staff of the famous French astronomer, Prof. Janssen, after whose death Stefanik became the director of the observatory atop Mount Blanc. His profession took him all over

Dear Members and Readers, Many thanks go to our youth club for a job well clone. The youth club had a great time last week putting on a penny carnival. The local lodge had a free dinner and the youth did a beautiful job decorating the tables. We had many comments on bow nice the decorations were. Thank you for your cooperation. You were great! It was so much fun wasn't it? We want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Alfons Holubec for a generous donation to the youth club.

We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

After the delicious 'barbecue dinner 'we continued with our carnival until meeting time.

Youth members should be working on Youth Activity Day projects. YAD will be held June 10th, in Abilene, at the Rose Recreation Center.

Next month we plan to go mountain climbing and have a nature study. This should be a lot of fun.

Friday, March 9 the teenage girls had a Mary Kay Cosmetic party. They all enjoyed the party, including the mothers.

We will be working on our Easter project and program. The Easter egg hunt, program and supper will be held Ap ril 15, beginning at 3 p.m. Supper will be served at 5 p.m., followed by a cake walk. If anyone would like to donate a cake, it will be greatly appreciated.

Our club is g iving a kitchen shower for the lodge kitchen. Those of you

The youth club is selling Tupperware.

A Tupperware party was held March 16. All the youth members are working hard on their assigned projects. This Tupperware contest was to see who sold the most Tupperware.

LODGE NO. 107, FLORESVILLE Dear Readers, The Floresville Youth Club held its monthly meeting on March 4th. President Susan Pavliska called the meetto order. The treasurer's report and secretary's minutes were read. Our youth club has bought roller skates, so, today we skated before our youth club meeting.

We had a pie sale on February 10, at 9 a.m. Each family was asked to bring two pies for this sale. This sale will benefit our Child-in-Formosa contest, wh i ch is being held in District VII. Af ter this news was over, the meeting was adjourned, and refreshments were served.

Fraternally, Teresa Purchis (13) LODGE NO. 47, SEATON Dear Members, The youth club held their regular monthly meeting on March 4th. We had 23 juniors present and also one visitor, Michael Morris.

President Patty Wilson called the meeting to order. We discussed the spring meeting which will be held April 15 at Lodge 80, Holland. Everybody try to come to the April 1 meeting; we will decide on a skit or something to have at the district meeting. For our social for March, we will have a Sock Hop which will be on March 23rd. This will be held at the lodge from 7:30 to 9:30.

Each youth club member is to bring a decorated sock. We will have a contest.

Our youth leader will take care of the refreshments.

Birthdays in March were Joyce Pechal and Craig Hanush. Door prize was won

by Janet Sodek.

Our next meeting will be April 1, at 2 p.m. After the meeting we will have an Easter egg hunt and then refreshments.

For new business we discussed a nature trip to a ranch and mountain climbing. Our mother lodge also had a meeting,.

We also had a number of pasts. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The youth club had a project of raising money by selling stationery. We sold 60 orders.

We discussed about the first aid kit and everyone needs to bring their item for the kit for the next muting on April 9, at 4 p.m.

Our next charity will be in the Cancer Fund on March 30th, after school.

Wednesday, March 21, 1973 mother lodge. The meeting was called to order by youth club president, Vernell Zak. The motto of the organization followed. The secretary, Marcie Holy, followed with the roil call and the minutes of the previous meeting.

They were approves with one minor correction. 'lucre were no visitors.

Under old business, it was reported that the cake for the rest home had been sent on Valentine's Day. it was also decided to present a program at the District VI spring meeting on Sunday, March 25 in Talton.

Under new business, camp for this year was discussed. It was also mentioned that the District YAD is fast approaching. After next month's meeting, we are to have an Easter egg hunt for the young ones in the club.

The youth leader then reported on her workshop and gave many suggestions and comments. The meeting was then adjourned. The youth club then divided into two teams, and enjoyed a game of baseball at the park.

We have all been very busy. We made flowers and vases for table decorations. Then we put on a Penny Carnival. This wasn't a very big money-making project but it kept the younger ones happy and even the adults had a blast. We all will now be-, gin work for the YAD. It's almost time to start thinking about election, of officers, so give this some real thought. This is very important.

Funeral services were held at 10 am.

Saturday at the Czech Brethren Church in Holland, the Rev. Albert Machalek officiated; burial was in the SPJST National Cemetery in. Holland.

Ivir. Balusek died Wednesday in a Bartlett nursing home.

He was born in Granger and lived in Texas all his life. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Czech Brethren Church of Holland, and a member of the Holland SPJST Lodge No. 80 for 60 years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Palus rk; two daughters, Mrs. Lillie McGuirk of Fort Werth and Mrs. Ruby .Taisler of Holland; a son, August Balusek of Holland; three brothers, Joe Paul and Henry Balusek, all of Holland; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Darrell Gommert, Edwin Balusek, Albert Balusek, Raymond Balusek, Wayne raisin' and Lawrence Labaj.
