NOVEMBER 15, 1972

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK To All XXIst SPJST Convention Delegates, and all of our members: In this issue, under the heading of "Letters" you will find a letter from the entire Publication Committee signed by PC Chairman Sister F. Olexa, who signed for the entire committee. This letter is justified by the fact that the PC definitely has a right to state their cause. Now let us take everything in correct sequence. In the February 23, 1972 issue of the Vestnik, page 3, (some 12,000 plus copies) carried the PC recommendation for Article 52b. This is the copy (appearing in that issue) from which the proposed Article 52b was read on the convention floor by Brother Ed Mazanec in behalf of the entire Publication Committee. He tmoved for the adoption of same, seconded by Brother George Kacir, and was supported by statements made by Hon. SL Pres. Ed. L. Marek and Dist. V Director Ernest Hanka, and was voted on and adopted. Your editor, in the September 20, issue of the Vestnik, called attention to the difference in wording between the original proposal by the PC and the way it appeared in the Convention Proceedings and felt that it would be corrected. However, it was revealed that the convention secretaries' version in the "Proceedings" was going to be accepted by the By-Law Committee. Next, SL President Morris went into

MONEY by Richard Armour Workers earn it, Spendthrifts burn it, Bankers lend it, Women spend it, Forgers fake it, Taxes take it, Dying leave it, Heirs receive it, Thrifty save it, Misers crave it, Robbers seize it, Rich increase it, Gamblers lose it, I could use it. a rather detailed explanation of the convention secretaries' and By-Law Committee's work and stressed the fact that the secretaries report was the only "official" record of the convention. This was in the November 8 issue, page 10. Your editor differs with the statement that the convention secretaries' records are the only official records. After all, the proposal was printed in the official organ, the Vestnik, for all to read. This was not a motion made on the spur of the moment at the convention with only the secretaries' records to state what was said. Brother Mazanec, we feel, has a right to insist that his motion, in behalf of the

PC, be worded as he read it on the convention floor, especially with the PC unanimously supporting it. Even if there is not too much difference in the two versions it'is a matter of principal and it seems to your editor that the official wording of any proposal should be recorded exactly as the proposal is made. • • • The District I fall meeting at New Tabor Lodge No. 17 Sunday, November 5, was fairly well attended. The meeting was convened with District President Carlson Jakubik presiding. We arrived some time after the proceedings were well underway. However, we were able to hear some of the fine district officers' reports. District I Director John Kubena, who was also tardy, spoke on the subject of his director's duties and remarked that he was glad to be present. DO Ernest Jakubik reported on the fine work the consistent organizers are doing and he revealed that Brother Willie Gloyna of Lodge 17, again made history for the SPJST Society by selling another large policy for $260,000. At this time, he was given recognition as well as all the present organizers with a loud round of applause. During this writing, your editor would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Brother Willie Gloyna for his outstanding achievement in the insurance industry. Per-
