FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK In this issue you will find photos of the State YAD in Temple High School August 20th. We regret that we could not get all the winners on some of the pictures, however, the announcement for all first-place winners in all categories to be sure and have their pictures taken came too late. At any rate, we did the best we could under the circumstances. There were evidently two mistakes made in the awarding of first place trophies and your editor will let the Youth Department explain the details. One error is in the photo of Ind vidual talent winners. Then there was an error in the Senior Group Talent awa.d; it was given to Lodge No. 117, Robstown and should have been Lodge No. 58, Hungerford. (This information was furnished by SYD Dorothy Massey. The photos of that group is from our files as well as the one of the Lodge No. 84 Beseda dancers from Dallas. We had the photographer take a picture of the youth leader (Willie Mae Sohuetz, 6), teenager (Karen Dorotik, Lodge 30), and junior (Debbie. Uptmor, Lodge 6) winners, but it did not arrive. The talent competition was well presented and the craft skills were well displayed; each entrant deserved the best. In the exhibition section it was like a fair; there was almost every project imaginable exhibited.

BASHFUL Because I was so bashful once When I was very young They used to tease me, and they'd say "The cat had got my tongue." I think, since I am growing up, The way some people sound, It's just too bad there aren't enough Of cats to go around There is much behind-the-scenes Work that is put forth into this. It originates with much contemplation and preparation, many months before hand and of last minute details. We would also like to emphasize to the membership that a high school is the most accommodating place to hold a State YAD because a high school auditorium has good accoustics, PA system and lights that enhance 'a talent presentation with a complimentary effect. •

There was a decrease this year in comparison, both in contestants and attendance, to last year. Last year there were 320 contestants and 700 in attendance. • • Please note in the Newsbriefs — SYD Sister Massey is advising you of the finding of someone's glasses.

Remember the play, especially for the youth set, "She's My Daisy" in Houston at Lodge No. 88, Sunday, September 10th, at 2 p.m. See the ad in this issue. ' You will note that in the last column on page 1 of the August 16, issue it is stated that: "Sister Nesuda took 'time off, without pay ... etc." Our attention has been called to o this, since Sister Nesuda was paid by the SPJST. We were, of course, referring to her regular employment and we felt that this was understood by the readers. Please read what is written and do not try to read something into it that was not intended. • • Please disregard the bold face type: Text in Appendix in the center of column No. 2 of the Proceedings of the Convention on page 14 Of the August 30 issue. It will not appear in the Proceedings (Typographical error). • • It is certainly refreshing to print and read an interesting and enjoyable report of a pleasant trip to the old country of the type and common sense that Sister Naomi Kostom wrote. Why not look at the bright side of life as she does?

George Horace Lorimer, for many years editor of The Saturday Evening Post, once wrote these words: "It is a
