FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, July 19th was another eventful day enjoyed by many in the pleaslant atmosphere in the new building of Lodge No. 40, Hillje, which hosted District VI YAD. According to our observations, the countless hours of planning and preparations by DYD Elsie Brdecka and all concerned assistants were not in vain.

There were 236 entrants from seven youth clubs who participated in talent, arts, crafts, and royalty. In general, the entire competition was of a nice variety, displayed beautifully and made a fine presentation.

We wish to emphasize to the membership and readers that Monica Merta (30), who did not lose courage while competing at the convention in the Miss SPJST competition because she almost wan and many of us were not aware of it (we understand she lost by only 2 points); she exemplified good sportsmanship, and thus made herself a winner again in the district to compete at the state royalty competition in September.

This time Sister Brdecka relinquished the duty of mistress of ceremonies to Geraldine Kalina (58), State Queen of 1970-71 who did a superb job, and District King Kenneth Sabrsula (58) Of 1970-71, also fulfilled his assignment well SL President Nick Morris brought

District I has their YAD coming up August 6 at Lodge No. 9, Snook, and that ends they District YADs. Then we have the two BIG ONES (State YADs) on August 20, and September 17. Check your Youth Activity Calendar for particulars.

In attending the various YADs your editor finds that the delegates to the last convention are having some second thoughts about certain aspects of the convention and what was and 'what should have been accomplished. It is good that members take time to do some thinking about this before writing hastily, too soon. Your editor is doing the same.

ewsbriefs Brother William Houdek of Lodge 84, and his brother, Joe, and sister, Agnes Houdek of Dallas, pleasantly surprised us with a nice visit. Miss Houdek is the faithful weekly Czech contributor to the Vestnik.

Brother Louis Svacina, age 85, passed away July 14, 1972 in a West hospital, Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Brother Svacina was a member of Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood.

• • Brother Pmil Kubin, age 69, passed away on Saturday, June 24, at the Heights Hospital in Houston after suffering a lingering illness. Brother Kubin, was a member •of Lodge Stefanik No. 142, Houston, nearly 53 years. He was a devoted lodge brother.

Features Kathleen Jane Gallagher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Gallagher of De Kalb, Illinois, became the bride of Anthony J. Alholm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Alholm of Grapevine, Texas, in a double ring ceremony performed by Father William McDonnell at Christ the Teacher Chapel in De Kalb, Illinois on June 24th. The couple received three hundred guests at a dinner reception at the Northern Illinois University Plaza in De Kalb, Illinois, immediately following the fivethirty afternoon ceremony. Dancing to the music of the Harry Condon Band followed.

The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, wore an old-fashioned gown of ivory georgette chiffon trimmed at the illusion neckline with bowknot of Venise lace. The bell-cuffed long sleeves, the empire waist, the double dance ruffle flounce at the bottom and the detachable train were also trimmed with Venise lace. A graceful matching hat with wide brim and a full crown with illusion veiling completed the bride's ensemble. She carried a colonial bouquet of stephanotis, gardenias and baby's breath.

The bride was attended by her sister, Sheila Gallagher of De Kalb, as maid at honor. The hridemaids were Kathy

The groom, Arthony J. Alholm, is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Tick of Grapevine, Texas. The Alhohn and Tirk families are members of the Fort Worth Sokol and Lodge No. 92 Fort Worth.

MR. AND MRS. ANTHONY J. ALIFiOLM Sylvester of Elmwood Park, Illinois, Anne and Sarah Gallagher of De Kalb, cousins of the bride, and Cathy Smith, also of De Kalb. They were attired in identical gowns of delicate blue seersucker fashioned after the bride's gown, trimmed with purple ribbon and lace.

They carried colonial nosegays of purple and pink asters, yellow and white daisies and baby's breath.

The groom chose as his best man a Notre Dame University classmate, Donald Graham of St. Louis, Missouri.

Groomsmen were Kevin Gallagher, brother of the bride; Larry Kickham and John Cowie, Notre Dame classmates; and Fred Bollinger of Fort Worth, Texas.

The Lector for the nuptial mass was Ronald Matus of Fort Worth, Texas.

Assisting on the altar was Christopher and Colin Smith of De Kalb, Illinois.

She accompanied herself on guitar.

Dan Pesut of De Kalb, Illinois, played the traditional Wedding March from "Lohengrin" as the bride entered, and the Notre Dame University Victory March was the recessional.

Out-of-state guests for the wedding were from Texas, Massachusetts, New York, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota.

The couple's summer address is 420 W. Edwards, Springfield, Illinois. They will return to Notre Dame, Indiana in September where the groom, a Notre Dame University graduate will complete his studies for a degree in law.

The bride is a recent graduate of St. Ma ry 's College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

The rehearsal dinner, hosted by the parent's of the groom, was held at the Kishwaukee Country Club, in De Kalb, Illinois.

Dear Readers: The 1972 convention is hi!n.:ory and we delegates exercised our rights to be heard and to vote in our democratic

4 way of life. With the exception of a couple of uncalled-for incidents, it was a good convention. It is especially goad that we limited the concentration of too much power in the Supreme, Lodge; as long as this is done, our SPJST will continue in the fraternal way our forefathers wanted it to be.

Had they wanted an autocracy they would have never had local lodges or delegates or anything that was in any way fiaternal.

Now a comment about the letter we each received in out hotel mail box. I had nothing to do with this, nor did I know before or even up to now who was responsible for this. I was advised by some of the •delegates to go before the convention and clear this up, but our convention chairman, Brother Sid. Pokladnik, felt it was not necessary since the letter was unsigned and, therefore, had no meaning. I did not, nor would I have used this means to win an election. 1 wanted to win on my own merits, integrity and ability.

My conei.ru e is clear and I have nothing to ue ashamed at' cecause my campaign w,.,s honest, above board arid my own. 1 wish to congratulate Brothers Morris, hejny, i✓likeska, Zabeik, Lesikar and Sefeik and all tile directors on their election and I know they will serve our Society well.

I am deeply grateful for the time and effort of these who were helping me. I am grateful for the confidence that I received from those delegates who gave me their lodge's vote. As an "unknown in many of our lodges" this was a tremendous compliment and I can humbly say "dekuju s srdce" or "thanks from my heart."

Yesterday is past, today is here, so prepare for tomorrow, and that is what I am and will be doing. I am looking to the next convention with this thought: Experience is a great teacher, I will be better prepared, better known, more observant and watchful and, if God be willing, who knows?

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Well, the plane hi-jacking excitement got pretty close , to borne when the big 727 jet had to come down in a small field, in nearby Lake Jackson.

Some tires blew out when the big jet landed and it's lucky that the passengers were released earlier at another field otherwise the added weight

might have caused a tragedy, long to be remembered. Although the hi-jackers arc primarily after big money and publicity, the big danger is that they are dealing with many lives aboard the plane. When the hi-jackers commandeer and divert a plane into another area they expose the flight to dangerous weather, or to unsafe landin g fields for the big jet, or may cause panic among the passengers or even the crow. The pilots could get hurt or even killed; then the , big jet, would be a flying coffin with all those people aboard. Therefore, this type of hi-jacking is not just ordinary, but a hideous crime against the safety of people and should be punishable by the harshest term available, to deter, at least to a point, even the most foolhardy.

Then on Saturday, August 12, Lee Roy Mato,cha brings his "snowball" band. here for your enjoyment. Notice on Sunday, August 13, we will have our Little Las Vegas Day at Lodge 88. 'That's when we do it all: eat barbecue and (please, ladies bring some of that good pastry), the kiddies will enjoy rides and swimming, and us older ones can spin the wheels, with plenty of other entertainment and stuff to keep you cool. We have a beautiful park to relax in and for you dancers we have the best —the Vrazels of Buckholts and Jimmie Brosch with his lively band. Where else can you enjoy a day like this? Therefore, I extend an invitation in the name of Lodge 88, to all from near and far, come join us on Sunday, August 13. On Saturday, August 19, some of you girls may want to put on your formals because Gilbert Kautz of Taylor will be at the Chandelier Ballroom for a semi-formal dance.

Other activities at 88 — Thursday, July 27 and in fact, every Thursday night, is a big social night with homecooked supper starting at 5:30 p.m. and games starting promptly at 8 p.m. with fun for everyone.

The birthday club sisters have their card party on Wednesday, Aug. 2, and ion Wednesday, the 9th, they have their meeting, more party, games, luncheon and prizes.

Here and there — Some celebrations at our nice dances recently: Leon rand Ana Dean had their 35th anniversary, Rena. Mleak was happy on her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Laporte were doing their 30th wedding anniversary celebrating, Dorothy and 'Kermit Lange their 21st at table 51.

Edward and Ruby Mares were doing their 25th, and were here, all the way from Washington. Hubert and Emma Jarisch celebrated their birthdays at Bob, Wills dance; tables 32 and 33.

Mr. and Mrs, Joe Borok visited all the way from Hartford, Conn.; Angeline Miculka and Buford Mayfield had their birthdays en the 6th — 32? It's nice to have wishful thinking; oh, where are the days of my youth? No wonder the Zaleskys wear their Pontiacs out so soon; they made another trip through Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma and, of course, New Orleans, La. Probably checked on some ove • -looked peep holes. Yes, I believe that they enjoyed a great trip.

Helen and Lawrence , Petrosky celebrated their 25th or silver wedding anniversary at the Chandelier Ballroom on July 9th, and this is one that I. hated to miss, because I knew Lawrence when he was knee-high to a duck. Everything was up to a "T".

They served cake and punch, then switched to beer, so everyone could keep up with Harry Czarnek's lively tempo music. They really had a big turnout of friends and relatives. The wedding march was great and so was the dancing on into the night. They are now looking forward to their golden wedding anniversary, and the way they are going, I know that they will make it; but Helen and Lawrence, if I again fail to show up at your golden wedding celebration, please forgive me?

I may have a very good reason for not being able to come!

Reports were then given to the lodge by the delegates to the SPJST Convention. The delegates were Charles Holy, Erwin Holy, Frank Zabransky, Vicky Zak, and August Holub. Also attending as visitors were Mrs. Charles Holy, Mrs. Frank Zabransky and daughter, Annie Marie Zabransky.

Our annual family day dinner was discussed and, planned. It was decided by the members that the lodge would have a basket dinner with each family 'attending bringing a basket lunch to be served at noon. The lodge will furnish the refreshments. The youth club is planning some entertainment.

District VI Director Ed Sralla will be with us on that day.

Refund checks were given out and the meeting adjourned. Entertainment followed with refreshments and lunch being served.

The youth club led the membership in reciting the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. The membership stood in silent respect for our departed member, Brother Louis Svacina, who passed away at the age of 85 on July 15, 1972.

Dear Members, The July meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. by President Silas Smith.

The youth club teen-age group presented the colors and led in the pledge of allegiance and lodge motto.

A thank-you note was read from the James Kuykendall family, a letter from District 3 Treasurer Brother Johnnie Gaidusek.

President Silas Smith asked, everyone to stand in silent prayer for Brother James Kuykendall, whose death occurred on June 20th.

Brother Henry Slovak, had. Sister Engelke to read the minutes of the Board of Trustees meeting held on Wednesday night, July 5th.

Sister Jeanette Smith reported that the Musical Jamboree was a huge success. All those who worked deserve a vote of thanks. They did a good job, and were helpful wherever needed.

Julia Slovak, youth club president, gave the report of club activities. There were 21 youth who attended the District 3 meeting held at Ennis. There were a number of youth winners, some will compete at State YAD in Temple.

The club was second in Youth Club of the Year. The booster poster won 2nd, and their poster won 1st place at the convention. Congratulations to all of you.

Health Committee report: Sister Agnes Mazanec has sent get-well cards to Brother Otto Eison, who has been very ill. We certainly hope he is improving; to Brother Otto Hanus, who had surgery again. Brother Otto was at the meeting Sunday and was doing line.

VESTNf Sympathy cards were sent to tne James Kuykendall family and the Frank Kolenovsky family on the loss of his mother. We extend our sympathy to these families on the loss of their loved ones. May they rest in peace. We hope Father Frank Miller is doing fine after his auto accident.

Brother John Simcik wasn't feeling well Sunday. We hope he is doing better.

Congratulations to the Ray Monthies on a new arrival and to great-grandparents, Brother and Sister Herman Brews.

Please, when you know of anyone who is ill, in the hospital, or a death, let Sister Agnes Mazanec or Sister John •Simcik know; it is impossible for them to know all the members and their families, so, without your help, they cannot do their duty alone.

It was very nice to have Brother Alvin and Sister Nesuda present with us.

Brother Nesada had a chart showing the progress and sales of insurance, since he has been District 3 Sales Representative. He thanked the organizers for their help in this progress.

Sister Nesuda spoke to the youth club and discussed their trip to camp, which will be coming up soon.

Brother Ed lVfazanec gave some of the details of the convention. Sister Engelke thanked everyone for making it possible for her to be a delegate.

President Smith also expressed his views and related some of their experiences Brother Otto Harms had a number of the colorful booklets giving the complete history of SPJST for the members to take and read.

LODGE NO, 74, LOVELADY Dear Members and Readers: The project for our youth club turned out real good for it to be held for the first time at Davy Crockett Memorial Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Hefner and Mr. Chester ShmoMasi setup a restaurant, sold delicious barbecue, chili dogs, cakes, pies, kolache, and other snacks with coffee and soft drinks. Mr. Hefner also started barbecue preparations at 5 a.m., so everyone could enjoy the meal while it was fresh and hot.

All of you come out in 3 weeks to see for yourself that you couldn't be served better anywhere else; that's two days — Saturday and Sunday. This park is very pretty, no litter and you don't have to pay for parkt 4g. Everyone has a chance to setup a space and sell items such as: arts, handwork, antiques, petrified rocks, vegetables, canned goods, even dogs and houses. Reminding all you members who haven't 'paid your $5 membership fee, to do so as soon as possible. Our growth in the SPJST depends on your help from every member, and your interest in participating will shine on your accomplishment.

I would, like to have mentioned all the people who contributed to our past picnic, but there were so many and I was afraid to take up too much space.

We even had an auctioneer from Florida to auction our leftover cakes and food. A special thanks to all who participated.

He also acknowledged the thank-you notes from the. Walter Dieterich family, Mrs. Richard Brewer, Mrs. Rosalee Vicha, and Dawn Pavelka.

Youth Leader Sister Rosemarie Ban§.1c reported that the youth had a great ole' time at Six Flags and that all the youth and adults who attended District III YAD really enjoyed the day.

Having birthdays in July were: Henry Breitkreutz, Gaylon Dulock., Kathy Breitkreutz, Charlotte, Cynthia, and Denise Banik, and Marvin Camp.

Kitchen Chairman Dorothy Banik 'thanked Sistors Lois Camp and Rosemarie Banik for helping bake the roast beef for the evening meal.

Brother Albert Banik gave a few highlights of the convention and thanked all for electing him as our delegate. May I say here, that I also attended the convention, not as a delegate, but as a visitor, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to commend all the delegates on a job well done!

SPJST SOFTBALL TEAM LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS Dear Brothers and Sisters, Thursday night, July 13, we played the George Anderson team and we won by a score of 7 to 2. Jim Scoggins was the winning pitcher allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and whiffed 9 batters. Leading• hitters were Jim Scoggins with a home run and 2 singles, Sonny Grant with 3 singles, Pete Thomas and Bill Skrabanek, each with a single and a walk, Lawrence Honza, Jack Scott with a single, each, and Leonard Drozd with 2 bases-on-balls.

The weekend of July 14, 15, and 16, the team entered and played in a tournament in Stephenville. They played their first game, actually, on Saturday morning, July 15, at 12:30 a.m. They

VESTNfK played Fort Worth Trinity Baptist and lost a close game by a score of 4 to 3.

We should have won the game, but a miscue at the wrong time resulted in the loss. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher. Leading hitters were Bill Skraban;-k with a double, a single and a walk; Albin Vrana with a single and a sacrifice, Lionel Schulz and Jack Scott with singles, Connie Brennan with 3 walks, Pete Thomas with a walk and a sacrifice ' and Lawrence Honza with a walk. The second game was played Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., and we won over .Alvarado by a score of 4 to 3. Jim Scoggins was the winning pitcher. Leading hitters were Jim Scoggins with 2 singles, Sonny Grant, Bill Skrabanek, Lawrence Honza, Jack Scott, Albin Vrana and Harry Wilkerson with singles. By winning, we thus remained in the tournament. Sunday morning, at 4 p.m., we had to play a game and we were eliminated by dropping an 8 to 0 decision to the Dallas Volt Tech team. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher. Leading hitters were Lionel Schulz with a single and Pete Thomas had a walk. Even though the tenni didn't do as well as they should have, they still enjoyed the trip.

Monday night, July 17, we played Bink Mfg., and we were trounced 10-0.

The two regular pitchers were rested and Bino gave three of the other playors on the team a chance to try their hand and Bill Skrabanek, Pete Thomas and Harry Wilkerson, all took their turn on the mound allowing 10 hits, 6 'walks, and 2 strikeouts. I don't even know who was the losing pitcher, but they all had a try. Leading hitters, or I should say batters were Lawrence Honza, Grover Moore and Jerry Manak with singles, Jack Scott with 2 walks, and Albin Vrana with one walk. Seems that most of the players are suffering batting slumps and sure hope the team comes out of it before the City Playoffs begin.

We had to more makeup -games scheduled for Thursday night, July 20 against John E. Mitchell and Friday night, July 21 against Car DeLaney.

This will conclude play in our regular season league play. I'm sure we will be in the Dallas City Championship Playoffs because we will either be winners or be awarded a League Championship as it now stands.

The Dallas City Championship Playoffs were scheduled for Saturday night, July 22, and during the week of July 24, and is a double team elimination.

9 I know the team Loisses the playing of Wiley Beesley, our outstanding shortstop, and this had to weaken our team: however, we hope the team gave a real good effort in the playoffs. This was your last chance to see the team play this season.

We are sorry to report that Brother Frank Prochaska is back in the hospital. Get well soon!

We also want to wish a speedy recovery to Sister Donna Rose Parker who had surgery Tuesday.

I talked with Brother John Becan yesterday, and he still takes therapy everyday and is taking his walks. He seunded real good.

We extend our• sincere sympathy to sister Georgia Mihelich and family in Chicago, Ill., on the death of her mother-in-law, Veronika, Mihelich, who was hit by a car and killed last Thursday.

Georgia is the daughter of' Bro. John Bevan.

Wednesday', July 26, 1072 LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters: The July meeting was convened by lodge president, Tillie Helincamp, and following the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States, the members stood in respect to the memory of departed Brother Jack Daniels.

The meeting was well attended and all reports by officers .011d committees were very favorable. Needless to say, the 21st convention procedure and issues approved by this convention were thoroughly discussed and it was agreed that some of the issues passed were not to the best interests of the SPJST as a whole. You can be assured, however, that in the future the delegateE will be a little more alert and investigate the costly issues by closely observing and analizing the financial reports in the Vestnik. I will not elaborate on this at this time. Thank you, Lodge 174, Rockdale, for your complimentary letter regarding the convention, etc.

Brother • and Sister Sulak, your letter was read and made a part of Lodge 88 minutes.

The Mahal Club is now in the midst of rehearsals of an English play which is to be presented in September; more on this later. Brother Louis Hanus is the official publicity chairman of promoting this play and you can be assured the job will be thoroughly and precisely handled to completion.

A skit, honoring the social night. committee, was presented and the stars were Brother Harley and Sister Della Kadlecek.

REPORTS DISTRICT II ORGANIZER'S REPORT Twenty-one organizers made sales in. District II in the month of June.

They sold 46 members for $255,500 in insurance. This brought our yearly total to 356 members for $1,344,500 in insurance sale.

Brother Chester Shmoldas was No. 1 With $46,000 in insurance sales. Sister Alice Banning was in second place with $28,500. Brother Ladis Navratil and Brother Joe Pisek tied for third place With $25,000 each.

Brother George Sigut, Lodge 87, Temple, joined us as a new organizer and made his first sale. Best of luck to you, Brother George!

DISTRICT III ORGANIZER'S REPORT

The year 1972 marks my third year as district organizer for District 3.

Despite the fact that for a period of six months or more of 1969, the local organizers of our district operating without the benefit of a district organizer managed to make their quota for the year. That within itself was quite an accomplishment. The following chart shows the sales increase from 1969 to the end of June, 1972, that was made in District 3 compared to a total of increase for all seven districts.

EXCERPTS FROM THE MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE SUPREME LODGE HELD MAY 24th, 1972.

President Morris called the meeting to order at 10 a. m. and explained that the purpose of the meeting which was called at the request of members of Suspended Lodge No. 111.

Bro. Jarda Cerny introdUced the delegation from Lodge 111, to-wit: V. A. Stovall, Lillian Kruse, Betty Jo Werner, and Mr. Buddy Gregory, their attorney, President Morris then introduced all the members of the Supreme Lodge who were all present, except Director Koliha. Also present were Hon. President Marek and Attorneys Sidney Kacia and Reuben Lesikar.

President Morris read a letter from the president and secretary of Lodge No. 111 in which they requested an audience with the entire Supreme Lodge and also read the reply to their letter from Secretary Urbanovsky, informing them that such meeting was set for May 24th at 10 a.

President Morris called on the delegation to state their reasons why they desire to meet with the Supreme Lodge.

Editor Sefcik arrived at the meeting and a question came up whether or net he would be, permitted to attend the meeting. After a short discussion, it was decided, by vote of 9 —

Wednesday, July 28, 1972 3, that since Bro. Sefcik is not a member of either Lodge 111 or the Supreme Lodge, that he be excused from the meeting, A long discussion followed in which the principal participants were Buddy Gregory and Bro. Sidney Kacir. Upon questioning as to how the Bellaire Ballroom was acquired, Jarda Cerny explained that it was acquired on a contract of purchase for $275,000.00 by the three trustees Jarda. Cerny, Lillian and Lowman Kruse. He further explained that the value of the Bellaire Ballroom is $400,000.00 and that Lodge No. 111 is Making payments of $3,250.00 a month.

On a question concerning the initiation fee f Jarda Cerny stated that he knew nothing of any initiation fee, but on further questioning, he admitted that the lodge charged local lodge dues of $100.00 a year for any new members, but that this was discontinued Jan. 1st, 1969, when the dues were lowered to $1.00 per year.

A question was brought up concerning the lodge meeting dates and Jarda Cerny stated that the meetings were held regularly, except once on request of the Bakers who were not able to attend on the regular meeting date.

He farther stated that the meetings were held regularly at the Kruses' home, but that since the Bellaire Ballroom has been acquired the meetings were held there regularly.

A question was brought up whether the Tailwinds Club owes any members any unpaid claims due to winning °jackpots", and after some calculation it developed that the Tailwinds Club, at the Bellaire Ballroom. owes the winners about $2,000.00 and at the Esquire Ballroom they owe about $1100.00 to the winners of jackpots.

A long discussion took place with many members participating.

A recess was declared at 1 p. m. and re-convened at 2 p. in.

Mr. Jimmy Keen, an investigator for the Insurance Department ,was present in the meeting for the purpose of determining whether the insurance was kept in force for the members of Suspended Lodge No. 111. After being assured that no member's insurance was in jeopardy, he asked that we write a letter addressed to him confirming this. The following letter was written and given to Mr. Keen before he left.

Connor, Assistant to the Commissioner Dear Mr. Keen: The Supreme Lodge, SPJST, will accept insurance premiums in mass cashier's checks from individual insured members who were originally insured through Lodge No. 111, SPJST. This motion was accepted in a special called board meeting on May 24, 1972, by a unanimous vote.

Director Kubena made a motion, seconded by Director Hanka, to pass a resolution approving the letter written to Mr. Jimmie Keen. Motion carried.

It was brought out that besides the Tailwinds Club Lodge No. 111 was sponsoring three other booster or auxiliary organizations, and President Morris inquired of Our legal counsel if the tax-exempt status of the SPJST was being jeopardized. Attorney Sidney Kacir spoke and elaborated on the possible jeopardy of the tax-exempt status since this is unrelated business.

A question was brought up as to the liability the Society is exposed to by virtue of the Holiday Wings which is an auxiliary organization of Lee'.ge No. 111, operating airplanes.

Attorney Buddy. Gregory stated that he would check this out and make certain that the Society is not liable in the event of a plane crash. He further stated that rather than to go into the technicalities, to sever all connections of the Holiday Wings from Lodge No. 111.

A question was brought up as to what the proceeds from the Tailwinds Club are used for and Bro. Cerny stated that they are used for the maintenance of the planes, Bellaire Ballroom, and payments on the debt of the Bellaire Ballroom and that only about 5 per cent goes into, the treasury of Lodge No. 111.

It was explained that the Tailwinds Club has about 1700 active members of which about 80 were members of SPJST. It was suggested to work out something to permit the non-members to participate in the socials of Lodge 111, with the anticipation that these

VESTNfIC people will ultimately become members.

The counsel for the SPJST and Lodge 111 got together and after conferring they announced that they think they will be able to work out some agreement to lift the suspension of Lodge 111. The representatives of Lodge 111, together with their attorney, promised to do everything within their means to get the suspension lifted as per requirements left with the lodge at the meeting of March 6, 1972.

A motion was made and duly seconded that after the ratification of )reinstated -Arian the dipectives are complied with to the satisfaction of the Supreme Lodge and attorneys for both sides. Motion carried.

A motion was made and duly seconnded that after the ratification of the attorneys' agreement and both sides agree to it, the members of the Supreme Lodge will be polled, and if the majority approves same, the suspension of Lodge 111 be lifted and the lodge so notified. Motion carried.

In President Morris' closing remarks, he appealed to the representatives of Lodge 111 not to go back and exact vengeance and retribution from the lodge members who may have disagreed with their pthicies in the past, that this would avail them nothing and further divide elements in the lodge. The representatives of Lodge 111 said that they would not and never sought vengeance on anyone. Bro. Morris then wished them a safe trip home.

Brother Morris then asked that a few other important matters be taken up by the board.

President Morris proposed that the Supreme Ledge reimburse the Miss SPJST of the last convention, Mrs. Joan (Pa yliSka) Stephens to attend the XXI Convention with her husband and crowning the new Miss SPJST. A motion was made and duly seconded to allow Sister Joan Pavliska Stephens and her husband $70.00 for 2 days, plus mileage at 10c per mile, and also a banquet ticket for her husband, if he attends. Motion carried.

Treasurer Mikeska explained that many repairs to the downtown SPJST Bldg. are necessary and the cost of these repairs may run as high as $2,000.00 or $3,000.00. He further stated that Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Cordero are present concerning the purchase of the building and hp recommends

13 that we sell the building at the best possible offer.

Mr. and Mrs. Corder() were called into the meeting and after some discussion, they made an offer to purchase the building for $60,000.00, with monthly payments to consist of interest only for the first year but that they would speed about $10,000.00 on refurbishing the building within the first year. Thereafter, the loan would be amortized over 20 years on monthly payments.

The Corderos were excused and a motion was made and seconded to accept the offer of the Corderos. A vote was taken and the motion failed.

A motion was made and duly sec-. onded to make a counter offer to sell the building for $65,000.09. Motion carried.

The Corderos were called back into the meeting and our counter offer was explained to them, and after some discussion, they stated that they would split the difference and purchase the building for $62,500.00 on the previous terms.

A motion was made and duly seconded to sell the building to Mr. and Mrs. Corder째 for $62,500.00, with payment of interest only on monthly payments for the first year and amortize the principal over a period of 20 years.

Motion carried. It was agreed that the taxes and rent be prorated as of July 1, 1972.

Director Hanka reported that we will need several girls to register the visitors and sell banquet tickets for the next convention, and it, was agreed that the Houston lodges make arrangements to have the girls available and leave their reimbursement to the Salary and Donations Committee.

Director Hanka commented on Attorney Buddy Gregory's performance in the meeting and stated that if it wasn't for him and President Morris' gavel we would still be wrangling with the members of Lodge 111.

There being no further business, Vice President Hejny made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Director Vitek and carried. Adjourned at 6 p.m.

The election Of a new historian was held; Annie Zabransky was elected.

Money making projects for the family day dinner were selectd. We were pleased to have Dana Grones as a visitor.

The meeting was adjourned, followed by, the youth doing craft.

Door prizes went to: adult - Frank Zabransky and youth, Vivian Vasek.

Sunday, July 16, we attended 7,7AD in Efillje. Those from our lodge placing were Kathy Zak, Diane Holly, and Sharon Iliculka with first place. Those placing second or third place were Mark Sevcik, Kay Muenster, Edwin Gallia, Kenneth Sevcik, Chris Muenster-, Sandra. Holy, Sharon IVIiculka, and Annie Zabransky.

LODGE NO. 47, SEATON Dear Members and Friends, District 2 YAD has come and gone and several of our youth from Lodge No. 47 won 1st place in the talent and craft contests, and also our king won't 1st in the royalty contest. I will not list them by name because Bra Frank Klinkovsky, DYC had the entire list of winners' names in the July 19 issue. We are very proud of all these youth and wish the 1st place winners lots of luck when they go to State YAD on August 20 at Temple High School and royalty at Ennis on September 17.

Camping days are just around the corner and we are looking forward to Camp Val Verde. We are to arrive at camp on Saturday, August 5 at 9:30 a. m. We will be leaving Camp Val Verde Tuesday afternoon, August 8 about 4:30 p. m. Therefore our schedule for youth campers and chaperones of Lodge 47 will be to meet at Ferguson Park, corner of East Adams and South 24 and be ready to leave from the park at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, August 5th. Some items you will want to bring along are sheet, pillow, quilt, flashlight, insect repellant, change for soft drinks, and souveniers that will be available, bathing suit, towel, washrag, soap, camera and other, personal items. Long pants and socks are required if you plan to go horseback riding. A light witp is suggested if weather is wet or cool.

LODGES NO. 73 AND 95, SEYMOUR: Dear Readers, We had a meeting on July 2, at the Senior Citizen Building. The youth planned a skating party, a. swimming party and an ice cream; party at the park for their activities for this month. The weather permitted us to have each thing as planned and they really enjoyed it. We've had such a busy summer and it seems to be flying by, but we still seem to find time for fun. Now, are looking forward to our campAug days.

The highlight of the day was when our king candidate, James Vanek won District VI King. His duke is his brother, Thomas Lee Vanek.

Our club had one more first place winner to represent us at state. Kerdonna Blair won first place in Home Arts.

Congratulations to you both and good Hick at state.

I want to personally compliment all youth from our lodge who attended YAD and. received honors.. A special thank you goes to all parents who supported the youth from our lodge, and to the parents who donated baked goodies and sandwiches to the kitchen.

Our meeting for July was held on July 12th.. We had 20 youth members, one youth guest, and 11 adult guests present. Our guest speaker, Mrs. Harlon Gerhold made an excellent speech on speaking. She complimented the club for using the parliamentary procedure in their business meeting. She stressed that if someone has something to say that there will be a time and place in order to say it.

For craft, the youth made fantasy

25 film flowers. There were petals of all shapes and sizes that could be assembled into flowers and be set in a bud vase for bzuuty.

On July 19, the club had a swimming party at the Sun Valley Ranch. The 'youth had the parents to come as guests. The party was a blast. The swim was fun and refreshing. Following the swim, the club had a wiener roast; soft drinks and cookies were served.

On July 30 the adult meeting win be held at Marker's Place, at 1 p.m.

Fraternally, Henrietta Vanek Youth Leader ---SPJST--LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Members, Another cam p week has come and gone and did we have fun! I like to go to camp because for one week I can do two things I love to do and .that is work with the youth and make things in craft work. We made some very pretty things this year. The two Leaders in Training (LIT') from Lodge 88 were very helpful to all of us at camp. They were Becky Wright and :Marian Kadlecek. We also enjoyed having our State Youth Director Dorothy Massey with us at camp.

At District YAD we got two awards that I am very proud of. They are: Youth Club, of the Year and our lodge 88 King and Queen, Kenny Bros and Lynn Wahlberg, are now District V King and Queen. A special thanks to Marcell 1Vialak for working so hard to get points in order to obtain the: Youth Club of the, Year distinction.

Congratulations to all first place winners who will get to go to State YAD. We are getting ready for our youth club's fund-raising garage sale, August 19 and 20. If you have anything to donate to us let me know or bring it to the youth room. We have a place 'we can store anything we get, so start early getting it to us.

The next youth club meeting will be on August 6, at 3 p.m. Please attend because you will not be eligible for the next social, without a good excuse given to me by Wednesday after the meeting. 'The youth club dueS are due, now; if you have not paid your dues 'please do so at the next meeting or you will be dropped from the membership list.

(Arrived late) LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Readers, Our monthly meeting was )g eld Sunday, July 16th.

President Julie Slovak called the meeting to order. We all stood for the pledge and then began our business meeting.

We discussed plans for a tour of the new Waco Convention Center. It was decided to have it Tuesday, July 18th.

We are to tour the Convention Center and then hike to a nearby park and eat lunch.

It was also decided to have a watermelon cut on Friday, July 21st. While there we will discuss plans for camp.

An entiert:iinment cqmmAttee was appointed and we discussed plans for the Princess Ball.

Sister Wilma Nesuda visited our lodge. She talked with the youth about camp, and told us the things we needed to bring.

Since this was the first meeting after YAD all crafts entered in YAD were put on display for the adults to view.

I was very glad to be able to attend this special day.

The talent and crafts were real good this year. I would like to congratulate all the talent and craft winners. I Would especially like to congratulate

They are Glenn Kahanek, who had a first place in talent, ages 10-12; and Meta and Clare Dorotik who won first place in craft.

Merta. Cood luck at the State Royalty in Ennis on September 17th.

I only entered in craft this year. I won 2nd in Handicraft, and 3rd in Science and Educational.

I was very glad when I received 1st place, Teenager cf the Year in my lodge. I also was very pleased to hear that I received the title of being Teenaaer of the Year in District VI. Remember, State YAD is on August 20th. I hope a lot of people from District VI are going to attend. Good luck to all the winners!

I've been busy with baseball. I had the highest batting average on the team, a .394. Now the season is over so I can enjoy all the activities. Next month we are going to play miniature golf.

Dear Readers, On July 16th, our club traveled to Billie for YAD. It was a very exciting (day. The crafts and talent were better than ever. The queens were all beautiful and had very good speeches. The kings did a great job, too.

The winners from our club were: Melany Drastata, 1st place in Handicraft, 3rd place in Science and Education, and 3rd place in individual talent; David Drastata, 3rd place in Science and Education; and Leona Rayburn, 2nd place in Home Arts. 18 LODGE NO. 30, TAITON Dear Vestnik Readers, On July 16, District V held their YAD in Hillje. There were more entries than last Tar, so there were more people to compete against.

The talent was very good, but everyone can't win. Every lodge that performed did something different from the other lodges. The king's and queen's speeches were very well presented. Monica Merta won the queen contest and James Vanek is the new king from. Victoria.

I would like to congratulate craft winners, talent winners, merit point winners and queen and king contest winners.

We planned to have a watermelon party on Friday, July 21, where we will discuss camp, so all youth try to be there and anybody else who wants to attend are welcome.

Mrs. Nesuda was nice enough to come down and talk to the youth about camp which we all enjoyed. All in all, it was a pretty good meeting.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 94, SPJST, of Wheelock, Texas, wish to express, in behalf of our entire membership, our deepest sympathy to the bereaved sons, daughters, and relatives of JULIA L. SYPTAK, who passed away on June 15, 1972, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services for Sister Syptak were held on July 17, 1972, at 4 p.m. in the Hiller Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Carroll rancher and Harral Dunnam of the First United Methodist Church, Bryan, officiating.

Burial was in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Sister Syptak was born October 21, 1883, in Brazos County where she resided all of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter member of SPJST Lodge No. 94, Wheelock, Texas.

Survivors include three sons, A. G. Syptak of Bryan, W. P. Syptak of Beaumont, and Raymond A. Syptak of Austin; two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Woiton and Mrs. Walden Orr, both of Bryan; 10 grandchildren, and 17 greatgrandchildren.

May our departed sister rest in eternal peace.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR

JACK DANIELS Jack Daniels, 55, of Katy, Texas, died in the offices of Houston Light and Power Company on June 19. He was employed by Houston Lighting and Power Co. as an HTO operator at the time of his death.

Mr. Daniels had lived in Katy since 1959 and was a member of the Catholic Church. He was active in the VFW, Electrical Workers Union, and SPJST. He was a World War II veteran and had served with honor on the aircraft

VitSTNfK carrier USS Hoggatt Bay. He was to have received his five-year membership pin from the VFW on the evening of his death. The pin will be presented to his widow. He was also the recipient of a 15-year safe driving pin from Houston Lighting and Power.

Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Daniels, a son, Darrell Daniels and a daughter, Wanda Daniels, both of Humble; a brother, Lee A. Daniels, Sugar Land; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Driver and Mrs. Bertha Kuetbach, of Porter one grandson, Darrell Daniels, Jr., of Humble.

Services were held at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Father Chas.

Domec officiating. Pastor 0. H. Horn delivered a short sermon to the family. Joe Presswood of Houston conducted military services at the graveside.

Interment was in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

Pallbearers were Roy Mikeska, Adolph ,Svoboda, Lewis Darilek, Daryl Baxter, Owen Edwards, and Joe K. Moore.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Houston Lighting and Power Co. employees.

—SPJSTEXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We of this lodge's Resolution Committee, in behalf of our entire membership of Lodge Karel Havlicek No. 4, Hallettsville, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed sister, ROSIE HOLLY • who was born on September 30, 1901, in Czechoslovakia and came to this country with her parents in 1909. In 1919 she was married to August Holly. Sister Holly passed away on Sunday, June 25, 1972, at the Rengers Hospital.

Funeral services were held at Kubena's Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday, and at 11 a.m. at the CMB Church, with the Rev. Henry Beseda officiating. Burial was in the Vsetin Cemetery.

Sister Holly joined the SPJST Society on November 12, 1941. Most of her life, she was devoted to housekeeping.

Survivors are her husband, August Holly; three sons, Alphonse of Hanettsvile, James of Houston, and Jerome of Lake Charles, La.; one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Belicek of Hallettsville; two 'brothers, Joe Konarik, and Steve Konarik, both of El Campo; one sister, Mrs. Bill Pelech of Gonzales; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

May our lodge sister rest in eternal peace.

KOLENOVSKY'S SERVICES HELD IN WEST Requiem mass for Mrs. Anna Kolenovsky of West was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7. Rev. George Doskook officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery at West.

Rosary was recited at 8 p.m.,..July 6, at Kotch Chapel.

Mrs. Kolenovsky, 79, died in a Garland hospital, Wednesday, July 5.

Mrs. Kolenovsky was born in Hallettsville and moved to West in 1902.

She lived in West until 1954 when she moved to Galveston. She returned to West in 1970. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her husband, Charlie Kolenovsky, died in June, 1932.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Kolenovsky of Belimead and Jerry Kolenovsky of Houston four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Ann) Garcia and Mrs. Frank (Georgia) Beran, both of Galveston, Mrs. Aubra, (Rose) Zabojnik of Garland and Mrs. Milton (Helen) Honza of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great'grandchildren. One son, Charles Edward, died on January 3rd, 1942.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Charles Beran, Albert Brown, Aubrey Zabojnik, Larry Zabojnik, Joe Hlozak, Milton Honza and David Honza.

Most of her family are members of Lodges 84, 66 and 173.

The family of Mrs. Kolenovsky wishes to thank everyone who expressed their sympathy during the illness and death of their mother. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to those who sent flowers, cards and food.
