JULY 19, 1972

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The following portion of editorial was ready to go into the June 28th issue, however, your editor substituted the Fourth of July material instead, because it would have been useless later. • • District Directors John A. Kubena (I), Henry Vitek (II), Cyrill (Sid) Pokladnik (III) and Ernest J. Hanka (V) were reelected at the recently-held SPJST convention. Brother Pokiadnik was elected chairman and Brother Ernest Hanka was vice-chairman. The convention ended late Thursday evening, June 22nd. 9

Your editor is discarding the remainder of that editorial; surely the minutes of the convention will give the details of all that transpired and each member can evaluate what was right and what was not by a careful reading of these minutes. Of course, your editor has his own opinion of the various actions and will state them when and if necessary. Naturally, every convention has a lesson for us and so did this one. • • We attended the District II YAD at Seaton (held at Lodge No. 47), and enjoyed the day very much. MC for the day was DYC (II) Frankie Klinkovsky who carried on the program all the way through. You will notice that the names for the district youth

THE THINGS I PRIZE These are the thing§ I prize And hold of dearest worth: Light of the sapphire skies, Peace of the silent hills, Shelter of the forests, comfort of the grass, Music of birds, murmur of little rills, Shadows of cloud that swiftly pass, And, after showers, The smell of flowers And of the good brown earth — And best of all, along the Way, friendship and mirth. —Henry Van Dyke tors (DYD) has now became district youth counselors (DYC) and the name is now being used. The convention changed that so we are in the process of using it. We will also change our headings soon. There were nine lodges of District II participating in the YAD and there wege approximately 150 entries. Members of the Supreme Lodge present were SL President Morris, SYD Dorothy Massey and District II Director Henry Vitek. With this editorial, your editor plans to cease mentioning who was where or what was spoken by them. Past experience has shown that it is easy to overlook someone and then it is brought to your editor's at-

tention with hurt feelings, that their name had been omitted, especially on the front page. • • Wednesday, July 12, we attended the third quarterly meeting of the Supreme Lodge and will report on that at a later date. • • Remember the District VII YAD in Floresville, Sunday, July 23 . See DYC' Maxine Pavliska's outlined program. Less than 20 per cent of proceeds payable last year under Servicemen's Group . Life Insurance were the result of combat deaths, the Institute of Life Insurance reports. In 1971, life insurance proceeds of $108,500,000 were payable under SOLI to the beneficiaries of 7,246 men and women who lost their lives while on active duty. Among these were 2,348 deaths in Vietnam -- 1,380 in combat. Servicemen's Group Life Insurance is supervised by the Veterans Administration and underwritten by more than 500 life insurance companies. Total life insurance in force under the program his $45.8 billion. Servicemen and servicewomen on active duty pay $3 a month for $15,000 of insurance, or proportionately smaller amount if they have $10,000 or $5,000 of protection. Reservists, National Guardsmen and ROTC members- pay $1.80 annually for part-time cover-
