FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Attention All DYDs, Youth Leaders, and Youth! Your editor announced at the District III YAD that there is a possibility that there Will not be room enough for the overly-large influx of youth letters which came in just prior to the convention and this week is no exception. If necessary, we may just Print the lodge number and the signature of the writer, so that the youth will receive credit for the letter to the Vestnik and leave the body of the letter out. Thank you for your understanding. The 21st convention is in the past and we stride forward to the 22nd, in four years (1976) the 200th anniversary of our great United States of America! It could be that the delegates who came to this convention in Houston had the Declaration of Independence in mind because they certainly acted with resolve and dispatch to keep our SPJST just as it had been founded - a democratic Society which was fashioned after our US Constitution. You members may rest assured that your delegates represented you well and there was no dreaming or dozing by the delegates in the four days the convention was in session. Time and space do not allow for much writing this week and more news will be forthcoming; later.
CHOOSING FRIENDS Some choose their 'friends as they choose their hats —, The flashy kind, and daring. Alas, that kind of hat, or friend, Grows irksome with the wearing! Some friends are most impressed by What another owns, or spends. Friendships like this are idle show — When money's gone, it ends! Some folks choose friends whom they can use; This causes woes and worry, For when they've used friends all they can, They drop them in a hurry! May I, as your editor, re-elected to the office, take this opportunity to thank all of the delegates for their support from the very first day of the convention. Your editor intends to continue in the same responsible and resolute manner as in the past..I am glad that each district has a representative on the Publication Committee; this gives, a person a greater variety of views of a number of members. I also wish to thank all who sent letters, telegrams, made telephone calls, etc., very much. I congratulate all re-elected and newly-elected offi-
cers and committee members, and look forward to working with all concerned for the good of the Society. • • In this issue is a report on the District IV YAD by DYD Sister Mary Haisler; we thank her very much for the excellent coverage and certainly congratulate District IV and. Miss Kathy Simcik on her achieving the title of Miss SPJST. Congratulations! And just think! Sister Haisler almost resigned at one time—this proves a person never should give up. Keep up the ,good work and we are certain that the members in your respective district will continue their support in your endeavors. District III YAD is also reported on in this issue by DYD Sister Wilma Nesuda. Pictures and coverage will be in the next issue. District II YAD is Sunday, July 9, and Lodge 47, Seaton, is hosting this /event. DYD Brother Frankie Klinkovsky also has an outlined program of the District II YAD in this issue. We hope many of you will also support this Youth Achievement Day, because much planning and preparation is put forth in this huge project, therdfore it is up to you as a member to show your interest in our enthusiastic youth.
