FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK NOTICE: Your editor feels that there should be NO material of any controversial nature in our convention issue which will be dated June 14, 1972, and requests the entire membership to adhere to the above, after all, this will also he our 75th anniversary issue and, therefore, let us make it an issue that can be looked upon with pride as a fraternal keepsake by our membership and readers. • • CONVENTION ISSUE Time is rapidly approaching for the publication of our convention issue. We could still use some additional material for that issue. Contributors should try to have their copy in no later than June Gth. Thank you. • • Speak clearly, listen reverently, seek the useful, avoid the pernicious, love beauty, nobility, and high ideals, and love the spirit of freedom and independence. Our entire membership can be proud of the progress made and service rendered by our Society during the past 75 years. The future presents a challenge to our dedication, ability and long range goals. With cooperation, effort and unity of purpose, the SPJST will continue to better its position in the fraternal life insurance field.
COMMENCEMENT Each of June's new graduates Has left his college hall. The world is now his oyster, The future is his thrall. He thinks he knows a great, great deal More than his parents do — And, speaking of that state of mind, The chances are it's true! —Leverett Lyon Time, the most important part of our existence slips by so fast, and being confronted with the idea that it will be convention time again, proves that fact too well. It is the most important meeting the Society holds and is held every four years as prescribed by the by-laws. Besides the delegates, many guests are expected because of the many attractions offered by Houston. Twenty conventions arc now history and each has contributed its share in making the SPJST a progressive organization, vibrant in its actions and a model for other such organization's. The delegates who attended previous conventions were idealists, fraternally dedicated men and women whose objectives were to insure the. future of our Society. This convention will convene with
the beacon light shining upon our Society's rich and eventful past. The future presents a challenge to our dedication to the fraternal cause and the great task of reaching still higher goals. It is our hope and trust that every delegate attending the memorable gathering representing thousands of members, will strive to do his or her best, weigh carefully his or her actions, and proceed cautiously, to resolve the many problems facing the Society today. Following along these lines, we can make this convention the best ever and the most beneficial to the entire membership. • The Houston Convention Committee has arranged an attractive program for the pleasure of the delegates and visitors during their stay in this city. It is hoped the delegates will refer often to the program book so they will be sure not to miss any of the events provided for them. SL Financial Secretary Ben Zabcik's annual report is delayed due to lack of space and will appear in next week's issue. i •
