FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK March 19 — It was our pleasure to be able to attend the spring meeting in District V, which was hosted by Lodge 88 in Houston. The attendance could have been larger but nevertheless, a group of interested members, delegates and guests came 'from near and far to observe the results of the meeting.

In this issue you will find District V Secretary Tillie llelmeamp's report, so we will also abstain from repetition; however, all reports were well prepared and presented.

Representing the Supreme Lodge were President Nick Morris and family, Treasurer Leonard Mikeska and Wife, and Head Bookkeeper Jerry Mikulas, Jr., and wife. Representation from DiStrict II included Brother Rueben and Sister Jeanette Leshikar of Temple: From District III were Brother Johnnie and Sister Hattie Sebetka, and Brother Vine Ondruse.k of Dallas. District V Director Ernest Hanka and wife, and Rest Home Director J. M. Skrabanek. represented District V, and from District VI were Brother Paul and Sister Angelena Sablatura, of Louise and.

All the district officers gave an informative report to the attentive audience. DO Evelyn Mikeska reported on the activities in her line of duty. She gave special recognition to the state and district sales champion, Sister

Hanka reported that he had the figures on the final total cost of the Supreme Lodge Hdq. Building which was $907,520.29 and an extra cost of $32,000 for office furniture. He gave a good report on the condition of loans in District V. He reported that he did not always agree with all of the decisions made at the SL, but that he tries to be democratic about his attitude. For fear of too much repetition, we will refrain from too much reporting, feeling that District V Secretary Tillie ifelmeamp will report on this in her minutes.

HAPPY EASTER! Helen Hegwood, and to Sister Della Kadlecek and Sister Lillie Kruse (who was absent) who were also winners of the district, Rest Home Director Brother Skrabanek gave a good overall report which all of us were glad to hear, especially that both homes are filled to capacity and applications are on the waiting list. DYD Geraldine Mikolajewski presented her report of activities for 197172. She commented, about the poster that the youth club of Lodge 88 had won second place at the Texas Fraternal Congress. Sister Mikolajewski also introduced the judges and Miss SPJST candidates.

Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris brought greetings from the other Supreme, Lodge officers who were unable to attend and reported that SL Secretary Raymond Urbanovsky attended the District I meeting in Kovar.

Brother Morris spoke about the growth of the Society; membership now exceeding 45,000. The remainder of his report at the meeting is well covered in Sister Hebncamp's District V Meeting letter in his issue. Brother Morris also installed the district officers and the

SL Treasurer Leonard Mikeska spoke on the real estate loan business.

The Miss SPJST contest was the highlight of the day. Each candidate performed her talent and speech very well. Cheryl Gaydosik of Lodge No. 42, Waller Co. will represent Dist. V at the XXI Convention in Houston, and ithere was a two-way tie between Susan Schenburn (88) and Donna Lynn IMachann (172) for second place. We extend our congratulations to all these fine young ladies.

Lodge No. 81, Neeciville extended an invitation to host the fall meeting on Qctober 15, 1972 at the American Legion Hall in Needville.

There are varied opinions hs to the purposes of' district meetings and as to the programs which should be followed. There is one school of thought which feels that these gatherings should be taken more seriously and devoted to thoughtful consideration of the activities and operations of the Society, and how those who attend, can contribute to the Promotions of the best interest of the Society.

• • Your editor asked for the floor and mentioned the popularity of a weekly publication such as our SPJST Vestnik as compared to a semi-monthly or monthly publication, especially from the newsworthy standpoint. There has always been a ruling that a , P.O. Box Number or street address MUST be included in your address in order for members to receive their Vestniks regularly and now the , Post Office Dept. is ENFORCING that ruling. Your editor is continuously receiving; corrections and changes Of address here in West.

He read the third paro csraph from the bottom of the 2nd column on page 2 of our Organ which reads: Changes of address and correspondence concerning delivery of the Vestnik must be sent to the Supreme Lodge, Box 100, Temple, Texas 76501.

Please read this carefully, and your Vestnik address changes will be expeidited by about two weeks, because they have to be forwarded from West to Temple, where the mailing list is taken care of. Again, you are reminded to send your material for the convention issue, marked as such, as soon as possible! Thanks!

We regret that we were unable to attend the spring meeting in District I;

Wednesday, March 29, 1972 however, we hope their meeting was successful, and we were glad to hear that District I found a replacement for the District Youth Director's position.

We wish to extend our congraulations to Sister Lola Vavra for filling in and taking over once again — Good luck!

We also extended our congratulations to Nina Lednicky of Lodge No. 9, Snook, who will represent District I in the, Miss SPJST contest; also our congratulations are extended to the other candidates of District I. • • A majority put the great philosopher Socrates to death, but if there had been an organized minority, with freedom of debate, the rest of the people would have become aroused and would never have permitted him to be put to death in that way. It was a majority action, yes, but the majority can, and many times is, wrong. Think about this and comparable incidents in our own everyday public lives and, yes, even in our own Society.

• • Is life insurance really a good buy for a woman?

The precise answer would depend upon the woman, and her circumstances — but here are a few general statements which hold true-.

First, any woman who is the sole support of a child, an aged parent, or any other dependent, should have life insurance to provide for her dependents, of course.

Second, most women, whether they are married or single, could definitely use additional income during their later years. Life insurance is the most practical method of providing this extra income.

Third, any woman, married or single, should have at least, basic insurance coverage for final expenses. And married women need life insurance because the husband loses the marital deduction as allowed by law in the event that she dies first.

Fourth, any woman who has a regular income is wise to put some of it away for emergencies and for retirement. Again, life insurance is the most practical way to do this.

vtSTNIK We enjoyed a brief visit at the office with three directors of our SPJST — Brothers John Kubena (Dist. I), Henry Vitek (II), and Cyrill (Sid) Pokladnik (III) were here in West on business and stopped by to visit Publisher Jos. Holasek and us. We were glad to see them.

• • Mrs. Frank Pajestka, Sr., and son, Frank Pajestka, Jr., of Holland paid us a visit recently. Frank, Jr., was doing research on Czech newspapers and their history in Texas. We aided him with some information and hope we helped him some.

• • Greetings were received via a very nice card in our office from Brother and Sister Herman Liebscher (88), who are touring the European countries.

At this writing they were on their way to Holland, Germany, and Switzerland.

• • Brother Leo J. Peters, MD, a longtime citizen and esteemed physician and surgeon of Schulenburg passed away at the Youens Memorial Hospital Sunday, March 12th, at the age of 85.

Funeral services were held from the First United Methodist Church Tuesday, March 14th, and burial was in the Schulenburg City Cemetery. In April of 1961, Dr. Peters had the distinction of being named "Texas Family Doctor of the Year." He was City Health Officer for the City of Schulenburg, and also local doctor for SPJST Lodge No. 67. Besides being a member of the SPJST, he also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and numerous other organizations. A son, Dr. Leo J. Peters, Jr., of Dallas, and daughter, Mrs. Hazel Shaller of Houston; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren survive.

• • Brother Joe P. Schindler passed away Tuesday morning, March 14th, at the Youens Memorial Hospital at Weimar. He was 79 years of age. Funeral services for Brother Schindler were held from the Schwenke Baumgarten Funeral Chapel Thursday, March 16th at 9:15 a.m. with continued services at St. Rose Catholic Church at 9:30 am. Burial was in the High Hill Catholic Cemetery. Brother Schindler is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Meyer of New Braunfels, Texas; a son, Albert Schindler of Schulenburg, and five grandchildren.

He was a longtime member of Lodge No. 67, Schulenburg.

In this time, we have always made our quotas.

I believe very firmly in the fraternalism and brotherhood of our SPJST, because that is the foundation upon which our organization was built. I hope to help maintain that foundation of fraternalism so that our SPJST may remain a good, strong organization..

I have been a home builder since I was about twenty years of age, when I started building with my father. For the past twelve years, I have been in business for myself as a contractor and builder. I, therefore, know the value of homes and buildings, which is very Important in making home loans.

I feel that I am well qualified for the position of Director of District I. I can assure you that if you elect me to this position, I will devote my full time and attention to these duties.

LODGE NO. RR, ROUSThN Dear Brothers and Sisters: Those of you folks who remember the late Humorist Will Rogers, will also remember that he usually started his comments by saying, "All I know is what I hear or read in the newspapers." That is the way it seems to be

with most everybody. (Sometimes we see things too, you knew).

Well, anyway, instead of racking my mentality as to what to write about today, I'll just make a few general quotations as to observations from reading and listening to our everyday news.

We, the humans, succeeded in putting this otherwise beautiful world in a terrific mess by building great big jungles (cities) where people , are now actually scared to come out and enjoy what they have accomplished. Inspite of all the precautions, harm comes to many, even death, and all this by distorted savage minded criminals from our own human race. Sad but true, this seems to be the evil or pattern of big city living.

Now, if you get by the criminals, you are slowly being smoked and fumed to death by pollution from our chemical plants, cars, planes, etc. This, of course, is clue to our wonderful scientific progress, and 1 am sure that we are all enjoying it, so why quit now; termites are doing the same under these Houston houses.

The other prdblems we read and hear about are some of our crooked politicians. They are the ones who, when running for office, tell us that they will be our faithful servants.

Btit, when elected, they forget all about their dear public and start serving their own interests from wherever, whomever, or how ever they can.

There is something I heard the other day: if you ever get in a scandal or get caught in the middle of a big juicy pie, that it helps if you say that you are so innocent that you have newer even stolen a watermelon. But then, if stealing watermelons (we used to call it =inning) is a crime, we have a lot of criminals here, even from Fayette County, muchless from a lot of these other counties. It is always better for boys to swipe a few melons (to get it out of their system) than to wait until they get in public office and then swipe a whole load.

Then we read about these political or civil-rights-minded people, who feel that no matter what they do, including murder, they should enjoy political asylum, such as was the case in California not long ago where a judge and three other people were murdered; also the Chicago Seven, the New York Panthers, and many others.

These criminals declare their own innocense regardless of what the nature

Wednesday, March 29, 1972 of their crime, or long before their cases come up in court and that usually is a long, long time. And, last but not least, our judiciary system (according 'to many quotes) is quite ill and weak.

It doesn't seem to matter how guilty or innocent a person may be, the outcome of a trail depeods a great deal on the ability of the lawyer to present the case. Also there are many statutes on our law books thal give the criminals every opportunity to use them as a screen, and all this weakens our Jaw enforcing body. Sometimes before they can even arrange a , hold charge, the smart lawyers use one of the gimmicks to have the suspect retased. It seems to be sort of a .frustitating revolving game of "we catch them," and "you turn them loose."

Perhaps there could be a better and much faster court, procedure in lesser crimes by making some changes (some lawyers won't like this,) by appointing three qualified people to the bench.

They could listen to the original story of the suspects, to witatever charge and alSo to the witnesses and/or people concerned, and probably get a clearer picture as to what really happened, than they can after the long preparation of their clients by lawyers, as to what to say or what not to say. The trials would be fast, dockets would be cleared, with much anxiety removed from, people, waiting for slow trials, saving in money to the accused as well as taxpayers would be enormous and the innocent would quickly be exonerated and the guilty would quickly be put where they belong.

Coming events at Lodge 88 — On Saturday April 1st, we will have an April Fool dance to the Ray Jurecka band and, no fooling, that will be a good one! April 8, the Hi-Toppers from New Braunfels, will be here for what should be a very good dance again.

On Friday, April 14, the Princess Ball will be at our lodge; music by Ray Jurecka. Saturday, April 1.5, a semiformal dance to none other than Gil Kautz of Taylor. Now comes the' big day, Sunday, April 16, first a big dinner starting at 11 a.m., followed by a Czech operetta after 1:30 p.m. The name of the operetta is "Starenka z Moravy" or "Granny from Moravia."

This operetta has mu aic and a lot of singing in and behind the scenes; come see it. After the play, we will have free dancing to the music of Henry Tannenberger. (This is a correction or

Wednesday, March 20, 1972 change, from Lee Roy Matocha to Henry Tannenbergerh Other activities include: Thursday, March 30 and every Thursday, there is always a big social; new time for a home-cooked supper is 5:30 p.m., and games start at 8 p.m.

The Birthday Club sisters have their card party, games, luncheon and prizes on Wednesday, April 5. Our regular monthly meeting will be lieimulay, April 10 at '7:30 pin.; retrashnients follow. On Wednesday, April 17, the Birthday Club sisters will again have their games, short meeting, luncheon and more prizes. They have fun at these functions and are still looking for new members to have more fun. Singing group practice at the lodge is on Tuesday evenings from 7:45 to 9 p.m., and Czech lessons are held on Wednesday nights, from 7 to 9 p.m. FREE! Sister Josephine Pflu,ghaupt had fun at the Vrazel's dance celebrating her birthday; everyone else seemed to have fun, too. The A. J. Zaleskys and some of the other relatives and friends were proud to see Elsie's nephew, David Franke and his wife, Holly from New York, on the Mike Douglas TV show.

David wrote the book "Safe Places," so they were on the interview program, pertaining to their nice masterpiece.

This book should be very helpful to folks, seeking a nice safe place to live.

The Harry Czarnek's Texas Dutchmen dance was a good one. Brother Johnnie Sebetka, president of Lodge No. 130, Dallas, his charming wife, and Vince and Joy Ondrusek also of Dallas were guests of the Harry Czarnek dance.

President Fuchs of Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 100 and a group of their members also enjoyed the Texas Dutchmen dance. Jeanette and Jerome Walkoviak had a number played for their anniversary. Rita and Frank Broz had charge of the dance with the, help of Jeanette and Jerome Walkoviak.

On Saturday, March 11, organizers of District V were invited to a banquet dinner and free dance at Lodge No. 172, Pasadena. DO Sister Evelyn Mikeska and her helpers went all out to show those attending a nice time.

Plaques and prizes were also awarded to several in different categories of achievement. Vice President Joe B. Hejny could not be present due to illness, so Supreme Lodge Secretary Raymond Urbanovsky visited for him.

Sister Theresa Sefeik who passed away On February 11th at the SPJST Rest Home in Taylor. She was a 58-year member and held her membership at Lodge No. 91, Crosby. Sorry for the oversight. It has been called to my attention that Mr. Joe Vrazel just paSsed nearly all of the children are. More most of all of his children are. More next time!

Dear Members, Our lodge met on Sunday, March 12, with a good attendance.

President Frank 'Zabransky called the meeting to order, followed by the pledge to the United States Flag led

by Kathy Zak and Annie Marie Za,bransky.

Reading of the minutes by Assistant Secretary Helen Zabransky followed.

They were approved after one minor correction. Secretary Charles Holy read the correspondence.

Youth Leader Leona Miculka gave a report on the youth activities. She also asked for three judges, for the youth Easter egg decorating contest. The president appointed Mrs. Albert Kahanek, Mrs. August Neubauer and Mrs. Henry Cejka as judges.

Organizers for our lodge were then discussed. It was also announced that the District VI spring meeting is on April 10.

Refund checks were given out and the meeting adjourned.

Refreshments and lunch were served to all present. The youth enjoyed an Easter egg hunt.

The Birth,day Club for March opened its meeting on March 8th at 11:20 a.m. with President Sue High. After the minutes were read and aPProved several new projects were brought upon the, floor. It was voted to charter a bus to visit our new SPJSZ Rest Home Needville. Chairman to plan this trip is Sister Lillian Finn, who will announce the date. and time later. We also voted to, publish new Birthday Club roster books. The committee to see that the books are in order and printed are: Sisters Birdie Hilsher, Della Kadlecek, arid Wanda, Kennedy. The club will reserve a date on the television program "Dialing for Dollars." Date and time will 'be announced by Sister Tillie Helmc amp.

Hostesses for the month of March were: Sisters Mary Fusig for Frances Walla, Sophie Hampel, Emma Jarisch, Sophie Hruby, and Frances Klecka.

They served two lovely meals on the 1st and 2nd. Wednesdays. Sister and Brother Tommy Jecmenek have done a terrific job in the kitchen on Thursday night. They have had the help of Sisters Elsie Zalesky, son, Gary; Della and Joe Miksch, Brother Joe Elzner and the Jecmeneks' lovely granddaughter, Rene. Sister. We congratulate you, Mark Mamula, on winning fourth place in the 200yard individual medley in the Indiana State Swim Meet. He has been an accomplished swimmer since the age of nine. At the age of ten, he broke two national records in the Junior Olympics in Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California. Mark, a sophomore at Clay High School in South Bend, Indiana was given a banquet in his honor last week and was presented a trophy and gifts for bringing so many honors to his school. HARRIETTE ALLISON A talented actress who has served the Hlahol Draniatic Club in various capacities for many years will again be presented on the stage in "Babicka z Moravy" on April 16th. She also extends herself in the art of stage makeup and costume designing besides filling her assignments in most any character role in Czech as well as English.

Over-all, the SPJST is very stable and has a great reputation among fraternal associations. Our Youth Department is doing well, and the goal in each district Is to organize or reorganize two clubs.

'The committee on Family Youth Camp and Recreation, composed of Brothers Sid Pokladnik and Dan Balusek and Sister Maxine Pavliska, have visited camps and are compiling facts to report to the convention. Brother Morris pointed out that we must treasure our membership in the National Fraternal Congress, for its law secti accomplishes much in all the stases in fighting tax proposals; so far there is no premium tax on fraternals in any state. . Brother Hanka attended the National Fraternal Congress at Denver, Colorado. Brother Morris stated that, according to the revised tax ruling, all unrelated income must be reported. He presented Organizer Patsy Baca the Certificat&of Appreciation Which she was supposed to receive at the District V Organizers' banquet.

Brother Leonard Mikeska stated that we were in the field of big business and that we had over $14,000,000 in real estate loans. Editor Rudy Sefcik brought out the importance of a weekly organ, such as the Vestnik. He stated that due to a now-being-enforced PO ruling—the post office wants the PO box number when you have a box.

He reminded us that all address changes should be sent to the Supreme Lodge. Brother Sefcik asked the lodges to start sending their histories and pictures of officers and the youth clubs for the Convention Vestnik; he stated that the April 19th issue will contain mostly reports of the Supreme Lodge officers.

Brother Morris brought greetings from the Supreme Lodge officers. Sister Evelyn Mikeska announced that any member desiring an ad in the Convention Brochure should do so now, and Brother Emil Horelica, who is in charge of this, reported more on it.

Brother Jarda Cerny spoke briefly on the good of the Society.

The following officers were elected: President Alvin Sefcik; 1st Vice President, Victor Peter; 2nd Vice President, Jerry Jaroszewski; Secretary, Tillie Helmcamp; Treasurer, Tommy Lostak; Flag Bearer, Eugene Sefcik; and Youth Director, Geraldine Mikolajewski.

Lodge No. 66 Youth Club President Mike Caller and Sister and Brother Emil Hanus. — Mike is shown presenting a cake from the youth club to Sister Annie and Brother Emil Hanus on the date they attended their 100th consecutive meeting at Lodge No. 66; a record hard to achieve. They joined the lodge in 1958. Sister Hanus has served the lodge as recording secretary 2 years, the entertainment committee, 3 years and has been English reporter for 4 years. Brother Emil has served as lodge president 2 years, treasurer, 3 years, organizer, 18 y ears, and Linden Pall Board of Trustees treasurer, 11 years. He is substitute delegate to the 1972 XXI SPJST convention. They have 2 children and 2 grandchildren; all members of our SPJST. (Congratulations! On the sane day they celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. —Editor).

The youth of District V also held a meeting and elected the following officers: President, Lynn Wahlberg (88); Vice President, Wanda Johnson (172); Secretary, Nickie Talasek (175); Treasurer, Carolyn Hermis (142); and Reporters, Karen Broz (88), and Gene Lewis (173).

The high light of the meeting wag the Miss SPJST Contest. Three lovely and talented young ladies, Susan Schenburn (88), Cheryl Gaydosik (42), and Donna Lynn Machann (172), performed their talents and gave their speeches. The winner was Cheryl, and Susan and Donna Lynn tied for second. I want to compliment all three on doing a great job; you surely are a credit to your parents and to your lodge!

President Sefcik announced that the fall meeting would be on October 15th, and asked if any lodge wished to host it. Brother Charlie Matcek, president of Lodge No. 81, stated their lodge would like to host it, and this was ap-

pre yed unanimously by the members.

Brother Matcek stated that the meeting would be at the American Legion Hall on Highway No. 71 in Needville.

Sister Smith, thanked everyone who brought a gift or made a donation to the game night at the February meeting.

Sister Betty Slovak gave the youth club report. Sister Betty said the cake walk Saturday night was very successful. She thanked Overyone for donating cakes and to all those who helped.

The club will make a donation to the Mental Health Center and Easier Seal Fund. The club is collecting : news papers, so save your papers and give them to the club. Kay Gorlich is the lodge nominee running for queen in District III. The club will have a speaker at the April meeting from the Mental Health Center.

This is probably among the most valuable and desirable properties in downtown Temple.

The price of the 84 foot by 110 foot lot on Main is set at $6.00 per square foot and the price of tine 75 foot by 110 foot lot on First Street is $5.00 per square foot.

Marcell Malak, Youth Leader LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Readers, I am writing this to say "thank you" to all the youth club members from Lodge No. 88 who attended the District V meeting and brought their items to sell at our booth. The new district youth meeting was well attended by our club. I hope this means the new idea of having district youth officers will be a great success. It will give us a chance to get to "wow the youth from other lodges, then we will know each other when we go to camp together.

Lynn Wahlberg of our lodge was elected district youth club president, and Karon Broz of our club was elected one of the reporters. Our district youth director will give more information and names of the other officers in her letter to the Vestnik.

Our poster won first place. I would like to thank the Poster Committee: Vicky Hegwood, 1VIandy Ledbetter, Cindy Wehring, Mary Ann Horelica, Arlene Malak, Deanna Dorsett, Robert Knapick and Lynn Wahlberg for planning and working on the poster.

Susan Schenburn was the winner of Lodge No. 88 Miss SPJST contest.

Becky Wright was a contestant with Susan. They both worked very hard on their speech and talent, and we are very proud of both of them. They were members of the youth club for many years. We were very sorry at the last moment because Of her job, Frances Dixon was unable to be a contestant.

Youth club members read your news letter for information on the cake contest, egg dying, cake sale and car wash. We urge all lodge members to come and support the youth club with their cake sale and car wash on April 1st, at our lodge beginning at 1 o'clock.

LODGE NO. 87, TEMPLE On March 3, 1972 the youth club of Lodge 87 had a special meeting at the lodge home to discuss and make plans for the future activities in the youth club. There were eight teenagers present and there was much discussion as to what they would like to have at our lodge. Some of the things we discussed were a swimming pool, volleyball, basketball, motor cycle club, horseback riding, hayride, boxing club, fireworks stand, teen dance club, etc.

We are sorry that more teenagers couldn't be present at the meeting to give us your ideas, but we feel sure you will make an effort to give us your ideas later, and back us on some of our plans.

Carol White and Chuck Northam both won the door prize by guessing the amount of money in a jar of beans.

They both won 50e.

We were served dips and cokes by our youth leader, Mrs. Frances Bartek, also we were honored to have our State Youth Director present, Mrs. Dorothy Massey, and our District Youth Director, Mr. Frank Klinkovsky. Others present were Mr. Norman Ginter, the athletic director of Lodge 87, Mrs. Norman Ginter, and Mrs. Freeman. We wish to thank everyone for such a nice meeting. For our Easter project we will donate cakes to the Hallettsville rest home. We will use the swan for our family day project. At our next meeting we should finish the thine;s for the booth.

After our meeting we displayed the decorated eggs for jud ging. There were twenty-one entries. Kathy Zak won the prize.

'There was an Easter egg hunt for the smaller children. The larger ones played soft ball.

Mrs. Albina Spanhiel won the March birthday cake. Mrs. Albert Kahanek won the adult door prize and Chris Muenster won the children's prize.

We had lunch and refreshments.

Our skating party and tour to the Dr. Pepper Company will be called off until summer holidays, because of conflicts with school holidays.

After the meeting, an Easter egg hunt was held for the youth and included a supper of cold cuts and ice cream.

Fraternally, Joan Sosolik LODGE NO 135, ENNIS Dear Readers, At our last meeting, many things were discussed. Our youth club received a new' youth leader. Taking the position previously held by Mrc. Joe Slovak, is Mrs. Elizabeth Bryiint. Sis. Patsy has really done wonders for our club; she has kept it alive and going.

She made the club seem more than just another club. It was always fun and enjoyable. At every meeting. she always had something lined up for us.

It was really hard for the youth members to let go of this beloved leader..

Sis. Patsy has devoted much of her time and everything else into our club, and everyone should be very thankful to her.

Mrs. Elizabeth is sort of new to the SPJST. I am confident in her and she will be a good youth leader for our club. She is now learning about the youth club and its functions. Sis. Elizabeth said that she was willing to give it a try. I'm sure that she will become a fine leader.

Our next meeting will be on April 9th., and there will be a poster contest using the Centennial Theme for Ennis. Prizes will he awarded to the most original. Remember that the District III YAD, and summer camp are just around the corner. I hope to see all of my friends there. Come to our next meeting, and bring a friend.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 81, Needville, in behalf of all the members of our lodge, express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed brother, CHARLES SCHIMARA, who passed away on Wednesday, February 9, at Polly Ryon Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82 years of age.

Brother Schimara was a Needville resident.

Survivors include his wife Annie and son, Robert both of Needville; his daughter, Mrs. Olga Wilke of Rosenberg and a sister Mrs Willie Susen of Bleiblerville.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 11 at 2 p. m. at Rosenberg Brethren Church. Burial was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.
