FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Your editor has been wanting to inform our membership and, especially, our correspondents or reporters, of the provision and stipulation in Article 51 of our by-laws, second sentence, which reads: "One of the stipulations must be that one issue of the Vestnik be published two months before the convention which will be exclusively for the reports of the officers, directors. publication committee, and other standing committees, so that every delegate may have all pre-convention reports together." We were sure it would have to be the April 19th issue, and upon receipt of the following letter from SL Secretary R. A. Urbanovsky, this was confirmed. His letter follows. e Dear Brother Sefcik: This is to inform you that the preconvention reports of all officers, diirectors, medical director and state youth director are to be published in the issue of April 19th. We would appreciate if you would reserve this issue for all of the above reports. We are requesting that all of the reports be mailed to you on or before April 12, 1972. With best wishes, I am, Fraternally yours, R. A. Urbanovsky, Secretary

IF YOU WOULD There is so much you could do if you would: Evil to turn into channels of good; Lives to brighten and hearts to be warmed; Neighborhood services to be performed; Old folks to visit, and young folks to guide; Somebody somewhere for whom to provide. Wide is the field if you're Willing to do Something for others less favored than you. Lamps of affection to trim and relight. Wherever you look there are wrongs to put right. People and problems to be understood. There is so much you could do — if you would! Therefore, please be advised that the April 19th issue will be very likely completely taken up by these reports. If you desire that anything be published prior to that date, be sure to send it in at least one week earlier than usual. ♦ 4. Your editor has received inquiries, written, or oral and by telephone pertaining to when, and if, I will voice some views on the various proposals for changes to our by-laws. Therefore, I feel that I should state my sincere

and fraternal thoughts at this time since the district meetings are just around the corner. I, cannot — for the good of our SPJST Society — agree with the concentration of authoratativ.e power which would be in the hands of only a few members of our Supreme Lodge by giving them the right to hire or appoint the legal advisor, editor, publisher, etc., and the president the right to appoint district youth counselors. • efer to your December 8, 1971 issue. The legal advisor is the legal representative of ALL the members of our SPJST. In the case of a member having a legitimate complaint against the Supreme. Lodge, he has to act somewhat as a 'judge'. Could he be impartial if he were appointed? In whose favor would he rule? Would we have a democratic free press if the editor was appointed? The Publication Committee minutes in the February 23 issue, p. 3, col.3, show that they were against the proposed change to Article 49. However, p. 4, col. 1, shows they were in favor of the proposal to allow the SL to 'change the publisher at the beginning of any year (Article 39-p) if they desired. How long, may I ask, would our Society be able to keep an editor if he and his family had to move every time the SL decided to change publishers? Would this be beneficial to the successful operation and publication
