FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The Chandelier Ballroom of the SPJST Lodge No. 88 in Houston was the scene of an afternoon and evening of anticipation. Despite sweltering heat and high humidity, the State Royalty. Day was well attended, and the membership of the host lodge extended their warm hospitality to all the districts, a day which will never be forgotten. A new State King and Queen were chosen to reign for the coming year. The festivities started at noon with a delicious meal, reminiscing with old acquaintances and making new acquaintances. Before the program of excitement began, State Queen Patsy Kalina of District VI and State King Teddy Dusek of District I stood in the foyer and greeted everyone in their own friendly way. This royalty was a picture to behold; a girl and a boy that our Society is very proud of. As the final hour was approaching everyone knew that the time was near 'to assemble in the ballroom to an impressive and glittering occasion, where, the royal court and candidates with their duchesses and dukes were seated on the stage waiting for the final cue.

Then Brother Hanka introduced the host lodge president, Sister Tillie Helmcamp, who also expressed her greetings and appreciation and wished the candidates the best of luck in their endeavors. Sister Helmcamp introduced ,State Youth Director James Janousek, who spoke briefly on the State Royalty competition. He stated that this being the 9th annual pageant that the competition gets bigger and better every year. He then introduced the 197071 Royal Court and their parents. Then the program was turned over to King Teddy Dusek, who stepped forward and announced candidate No.

1 for her presentation. SI4e was Sally Eembera, District VI; then candidate No. 2, Connie Hrncir, District VII; candidate No. 3, Pat Parma, District III; candidate No. 4, Janette Hruska, District II; No. 5, Marian Kadlecek, District V; No 6, Nina Lednicky, District I; and No. 7, Felicia Macha, District IV, in that order. Then Queen Patsy Kalina stepped forward and announced that the contest for State King would have the following candidates: (No. 8) Kenneth Sa,brsula of District VI; (9) Mike Kaspar, II; (10) Lynn Lesak, V; (12) Anton Kaluza, III, and (14) James Prihoda, I. All candidates were exceptionally good. The speeches given by each one contained much knowledge and they showc1 they had been well researched. At that time -- Queen Patsy made her farewell speech, stating the many thrilling moments she gained while reigning as state queen and her participation during the dedication of the new Supreme Lodge Building in Temple, being a Wharton County 41i Club Winner and attending the 4H Club convention in Oklahoma, appearing on television and radio shows, participating in her own district activities and many other civic functions. She also stated that she had gained a broad knowledge of the SPJST Society and enjoyed giving an explanation to the outsiders what our Society is really
