V • • Monday, September 6th (Labor Day) SL President Nick Morris and family visited in West and paid a visit to the print shop and office while enroute to Dallas. Brother Morris stated that he felt good and, of course, weak, which could be seen instantly when he tried to get around. We were glad to see him and glad that he is progressing as well as can be expected. We also wish him, and all others who are ailing, a speedy recovery. • • Winners of State Membership Contest have been announced by Supreme Lodge Vice President Joe B. Hejny. They are organizers who through special efforts have placed as winners in their respective districts and will receive an expense paid trip to the Texas Fraternal Congress in Abilene, on October 21st thru 23rd.

Another year has almost passed and we know that the organizers who didn't win will remain loyal to our Society in the future as they have in the past years. • • On page 5 are pictures of four winners in the recent insurance sales contest. SL . President Joe B. Hejny reports a total of over 3 million dollars worth Of insurance was sold in this short period. Congratulations. • We all know that talk is cheap, if not accompanied by actions. The truth of
this statement is self-eviltient to all. Now that we have increased the mem:bership of our SPJST, talk must be backed by action and the harder times are, the more action was called for in putting over our membership contest. Verbal accomplishments were necessary for obtaining a new member, but if we don't show action in getting to a new member, of what use is all the oratory one could possess? Talk is of no avail unless accompanied by actual deeds and encouraging a new member to become active. It took steady plugging day after day in order to be a winner, visiting homes and bringing the message of true fraternalism to the new member(s) in that home. Action also in holding good meetings, well attended and seeing that the meetings are all interesting and lively, for all work and no play is a little irksome even to the most loyal of us. Action also is necessary on the part of every member in making it their business to see that all new members are properly welcomed and made at home. Remember that the new member will judge the SPJST and even his future membership may depend on what he hears and sees at his initial attendance at the meeting of the lodge. The new member knows only what has been told him by the person who wrote him up, or what he has heard from others in an indirect way. His first impressions of the lodge gained at his
