eliminations and now the competition on the state level. The youth have aI worked hard to get this far in the royalty contest. Again, we wish to stress the fact that the people in charge of the program should not have to repeatedly plead for your attention and silence.

We are certain that the lodge officers and committees are working with enthusiasm and are looking forward to welcoming the reigning royal court, contestants, members and guests from throughout the state and to host the .State Royalty Contest. We urge our members to turn out in full force and show their support. We are certain that you will be prouder of your organization after you see fraternalism in action. All of us should tr to participate in as lar ge a numb as pos-. sible since this will be another unique gathering 'and when someone talks about it in the future we should be able to say proudly that we were there, too.

Let's briefly mention something about the host lodge. You will enjoy the nice surroundings around the lodge premises with a spacious playground, stationary tables and chairs, spacious eating area and the elegant Chandelier Ballroom, where the pageant will be held.

Remember, progress comes with effort. If we desire increased activity in cur overall programs we must show interest and move forward, with the spirit Of the times. To accomplish all this we have many ways of showing that we are interested and one of these is the attendance of the annual royalty gathering. We need, indeed, to multiply .many times the hands, the minds, and the efforts now being used in our total endeavor.

• The Cfzech Day in Dallas deserves our support, too, and we encourage all Who possibly can to visit the State Fair Grounds on October 10th, especially the huge Coliseum and enjoy the color and entertainment that a large number of devoted people have spent the better part of a year compiling for you. A task of such an undertaking is tremendous. This year again under the chRinnanship of Mr. John 0. Bubak, a strong supporter, the P rogra m will be presented. Details of the Czech. Day w;11 appear in the Vestnik at a later date. We are most happy to support this huge project. There are hundreds of people involved for several parts

Ponnykal Reunion The Repka-Pomykal Reunion will be held on September 26 at Lodge 88, Houston, 1435 Beall St. Mail $1 per adult, 75c per child (for the meal) to Mrs. Leona Bacon, treasurer, P.O. • Dr. C. H. Besada, age 80, passed away July 29, 1971 in Wilson N. Jones Hospital. Dr. Beseda was buried in Van Alstyne Cemetery, and was a member of Lodge Praha No. 29, Taylor.

• • Brother Fritz, Wm. Jeske, age 64, passed away August 2, 1971 ill Needville. Burial was held in Greenlawn National Cemetery. Brother Jeske was a member of Lodge No. 81, Needville.

Sister Bessie Salac, age 82, succumbed August 28, 1971 in Southland Villa Nursing Center. Interment was in Ocher Cemetery, and she was a member of Lodge Cesky Prapor No. 24, Cyclone.

0 Brother Joe E. Mikulastik, age 64, passed away July 25, 1971 in Heights Hospital, Houston. Brother Mikulastik was buried in Chrisman Cemetery, Chrisman, and he was a member of Lodge Novy Tabor No. 17, Caldwell.

• Sister Eleandr Baca passed away in Houston, recently. Interment was in St. Maurice Cemetery in Louisiana. Sister Baca was a member of Lodge Pokrok No. 88, Houston.

MRS. STEPHEN A. WALLACE KATHLEEN ZAPALAC BECOMES BRIDE OF STEPHEN WALLACE The Church of the Assumption in West, Texas, was the setting for the 3 - p.m., August 29, wedding of Miss Kathleen Zapalac and Mr. .Stephen A. Wallace. The couple was united in marriage by Reverend B. J. Zientek.

Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Zapalac of West, and Mr. and Mrs. R. F. (Skinner) Wallace of Hillsboro. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smajstrla, Er., and Mr. and Mrs. Ludwik Zapalac ef West; Mrs. Smith Wallace, Mr. Ab Bourland, Mrs. Iva Bourland, and great-grandmother is Mrs. Florence Wells.

The bride was lovely in an exquisite formal length ,gown, an original creation fashioned in the elegance of pure silk organza veiled over silk peau de sole in an ivory tone and combined with imported French re-embroidered Alencon lace. The nostalgic gown de-

signed with Empress Josephine styling featured an empire bodice designed with a decollette neckline that was scooped and was framed dramatically with an applique of the Alencon lace, ending in a natural scalloped design.

The bodice was of English net and was enhanced with appliques of Alencon lace with each applique encrusted with seed pearls and crystals and was repeated to define the empire line. The lovely Juliette sleeves were of the English net completly appliqued with pearl and crystal medallions. The intricately controlled skirt of silk organza veiled over the silk peau de sole gave an A-line effect strewn with appliques. An over-lay of the lace bordered the hemline and was edged in sz:allops. The train fell in a cluster of pleats from the center back bodice at the empire line and extended to a cathedral length. Her bouffant veil of imported pure silk English illusion fell

VESTNfK in tiers from a contour caplet completely covered in lace and beaded in pearls.

The bride carried a cascade of pink miniature carnations, purple sea foam status, yellow adgapanthas and lavender azaleas centered with an orchid.

The mother of the bride wore a turquoise dress of silk shantung. It was raccented with jewels at the neckline and cuffs. She wore matching turqouise accessories. The groom's mother chose a pink dress of silk shantung with a rolled jeweled collar. She wore matching pink accessories.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was Miss Carol Marak el Huntsville. Bridesmaids were Miss Denise Smajstrla of West, Miss Monica Smajstrla of Marlin, cousins of the bride; Miss Karla Cole of Huntsville; Miss Rhonda Shepard of Lubbock; and Miss Alice Lavish of Houston.

The honor attendant and bridesmaids wore identical formal length gowns fashioned of pure silk chiffon and cluney lace in a tone of deep pur, ple and lavender. The gowns, designed with a fitted empire bodice was of lavender chiffon and featured a square neckline and long bishop sleeves. An over-lay of the cluney lace in deep purple gave a wesket effect and was laced at the center front with a purple satin cord. They carried nosegays of pink, hot pink, lavender, deep purple, and yellow crown asters.

Miss Paula Pierce of West was flower girl. She wore a gown matching those of the bride's attendants.

Skipper Wallace of Gatesville served as his brother's best man. Groomsmen were Bill Cecka, Bruce Fridley, both of Huntsville; Steve Grant of Austin; Tony Williford of Hillsboro; and Steve Wilson of Houston. Allen Adams, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer.

Jack Adams of Dallas, Butch Zatopek of Commerce, Ronnie Gidley of Lubbock, and Scott Dawson of Richmond, ushered.

Witnesses were Mr. Ed Smajstrla, Jr., of Marlin, and Mr. George X. Smajstrla of West, uncles of the bride.

Mr. Leland Lundgren of Hillsboro, Soloist, sang "Theme from Love Story," "The Lord's Prayer," and "Ava Maria."

Mrs. Ed Grimm was organist.

Gary Marek and Randy Barton were altar boys. Miss Becky Barton gave out Tice bags.

After the ceremony, the couple Was honored with a dinner and dance at the SPJST Hall in West.

The bride is a senior elementary education major at Baylor University.

She graduated frcm West High School where she served as a majorette and drum major among other honors. She served as "Miss West" and was runnerup to "Miss Waco." She also attended Sam Houston State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Kathleen is a member of Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood. She was a duchess of District III in 1660 and received a string of pearls, a gift from District III at that time, which she wore in her wedding.

The groom is a graduate of Hillsboro High School. After graduation he seed-ed in the United States Navy for three years. He attended Hill Junior College and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville where he was employed with the Texas Department of Corrections as a guard. He is presently assistant manager of the Ben Franklin Store in Marlin, Texas.

After a wedding trip, the newlywed couple will reside in Waco.

MISS SLEDGE BRIDE OF PAUL A. PULLIAM Miss Sherri Dianne Sledge and Paul Albert Pulliam were married Saturday in Handley United Methodist Church.

Sharing the reading of the ceremony were We Rev. N. H. Kupferle Jr. of Matthews Memorial United Methodist Church and the Rev. William Botik of Christ the King, Catholic Church of Dallas.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Sam v iVI. Sledge of 7216 Meadowbrook Drive and Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Pulliam of 2115 Ryan Place Drive.

Miss Sally Sledge was her sister's maid of honor. Other bridal attendants were Mmes. Robert T. Huthnance of Dallas. Thomas D. Petty and William G. Portwood and Misses Sally 'Wino of Dallas and Susan War.Mner.

The bridegroom's father was best man. Ushers were Jeffrey Warren of Houston, Rodney Poirot and Edward B. Tominson of Dallas, Samuel R, Sanders, Lyndell Kirkley, Steve A. Sledge, Bradford Sledge and Robert P. Guminiski.

The newlyweds left for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, after a reception at Shady Oaks Country Club. They will live in Fort Worth.

Pulliam is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and SMU Law Schcol. His fraternities are Kappa Sigma and Phi Alpha Delta.

Mrs. Pulliam received tier bachelor's degree from the University of Texas.

She is a member of Delta. Delta Delta. Cotillion Club and The 500 Club of Dallas.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters, Seems as though I talked myself into writing again, so here I go. However, the few remarks that I am making are off the record and are not necessarily the views of our membership but rather thoughts and observations of my own.

We have heard and read a lot lately about a big bank going broke, and a lot of insurance stock being bought and sold, at mostly large fast profits. It probably would not have caught everyone's interest nearly as much, if it hadn't been for so many high state and local officials being involved. On the other hand, we could be proud of such an intelligent group of elected business people handling our government business. But, if they can make such fast profits for themselves, wouldn't it be nice if they would employ their talents to make a little more money for our different branches of government, for which they were elected?

Then they wouldn't have to be asking

One, thing intrigues me though: it must have taken a lot of clear thinking and courage to invest in such personal speculation, and yet when it came time to answer questions before investigating committees, no one seemed to recall too clearly just what did happen.

Another situation and even closer to home is the unfortunate incident in our Houston Independent School District. The firing of a school superintendent by a divided schoo4board, at the time of school openin0 This certainly, to , my way of thinking, is a detriment to the welfare of our children's thinking and learning. Especially, since it was so very unpopular with so many youngsters as well as adults to have the superintendent removed from office at this time.

Coming events at Lodge 88 - Saturday, September 11, we Lave a dance to Ray Jurecka of Weimar, can't go wrong there. Sunday, September 12, we have the State Royalty; special braised beef dinner will be served from 11 a.m. on, home prepared German-style potato salad, slaw, peach, coffee or tea with the dinner. There will also be a choice of homemade pastry, so sisters, please bake some type of pastry. It will be greatly appreciated. Registration and loyalty ceremonies will follow, with a iree dance to choice music to top it off.

News and comments - The A. J. Zaleskys had a welcome back number played for them at the Joe Patek dance. Bill and Marceil Malak celebrated their ?? anniversary. Rose Krej ci of California visited with the Frankie Semberas and took in the Joe Patek dance. Mr. Albert and Helen Brandesky and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kosarek of Corpus Christi enjoyed the dance with the Robert Smajstrlas.

Brother Joe and Sister Mary Fusig proudly showed these folks around. By the way, Joe and Mary Fusig and the King He,gwood family took a side trip from the State YAD at Temple, by going to Dallas and Six Flags. I can see Sister Fusig rushing from one wild ride to another. Enroute to Dallas, they stopped at good old West, Texas, on Monday afternoon and visited at the Cechoslovak Publishing Co., and toured

I just received the sad news that Sister Agnes Svacina passed away. She was also a Birthday Club sister. I was fortunate to know Mrs. Svacina in the early days and she was a fine person.

We usually have good attendance in the meetings. Cur hall is air-conditioned and alway pleasant inside, so there is no excuse on that part not to be present. Our organizers have new members at every meeting, but we never see them. They do not come to a meeting so we can get acquainted th them. Like in this last meeting 4 e accepted 10 new members: Rose F. We should have initiation of members, 'at least once a year, so we can meet them all. At each meeting Bro. After the matter was clearly looked into the committees voted and approved November 6th arid 7th (Saturday and Sunday) as our grand opening date of Lodge 25's new home.

Brother Anton Cihanek, carpenter in charge, assured us that the hall will be complete by this date. Some of the Proposed ideas on our agenda for these two days are as follows: Saturday, November 6th — Ribbon cutting 'ceremonies to be held at 3 p.m. in front of the new hall. That evening a -big dance will be held with music by Johnny Mensik and his playboys.

'Then on Sunday, a big meal will be served with a brief program following and then dancing to the music of sev'eral bands until late that evening. ,.Details to be announced at a later date.

October 29 (Friday noon) through October 31 (Sunday noon) at R. C. Harrington Foundation Camp (18 miles north of Austin on Lake Travis). Recreation specialists from across the nation will teach our leaders and assistants. Make plans to take advantage of this rare opportunity. More details to follow.

The teens from District VII were privileged to be invited to camp with District III again this year.

Everyone reported a great camp.

Thank you Mrs. Wilma Nesuda and all of District III. Special thanks go to Dr. Smith for driving the bus to camp and picking up all the campers, also for being a chaperone at camp.

Proof of the good time that was had at camp showed throu,gh the tears in the campers eyes as the good-byes were said when it was time to go home.

DISTRICT VII JUNIOR CAMP

Campers and chaperones arrived at Camp Val Verde just in time for one of "C'ornalie's" (camp cook) steaming meals. We could think of no better welcome after the long trip to camp.

Immediately after lunch the flag was raised to get camp off to an official start. Chaperones were assigned to their cabins and the campers they were to be in charge of. Name tags were handed out and everyone rushed to unpack.

A full afternoon of activities was in store for our first day at camp. Activities at camp included horseback riding, swimming, swimming lessons, singing, exploring, acrobatics, folk dancing, archery, wood jewelry, ceramic painting, foil art, crochet rings, and coat hanger coverings. Along with these scheduled activities, our night entertainment was initiation of campers, skits, Expo '71, autograph party, and the closing camp fire ceremonial.

A new thing that was initiated at camp this year was "cabin inspection."

Each day the inspectors placed a flag at the cabins, indicating its condition.

In the individual talent our entry was Shirley Michalik. All of you were wonderful. This was our first entry to the State Youth Achievement Day and the youth benefitted greatly from this experience. It also was a privilege to view the beautiful new Temple High School.

Wednesday, September 8, 1911: LODGE NO. 80, HOLLAND Dear Members, On August 23rd the youth leaders, assistants and chaperones had an after-camp party at the Temple Dragway Park. We had a wonderful time with lots of delicious food. We would like to thank Brother Klinkovsky, leaders and chaperones and everyone else who made the party possible. Jerry and I enjoyed it very much and were glad to have such a nice party at the dragway.

September 12th will 'be our annual fall picnic. The youth club will have ga.mes; and we will have eany valuable prizes. We would like to have a lot of people come out and play games and give their support to our youth.

I would like to remind everyone that on September 13th, at our monthly meeting, we will have Patrolman Stevenson from the Temple Police Department who will speak on drug abuse. He will also have literature for everyone. We will alb have refreshments. This should be interesting and very educational, so please come and bring a friend.

On Sunday, September 12th, we will have our youth meeting at 4 p.m. then the children will be selling chili and will also have a cake walk. Members will be contacted to bring a cake for our cake walk. In October we will have a rummage sale if you have things to donate please bring them to the meeting. Our mother lodge will meet at the same date.

For those who are concerned about my mother, she had a stroke and is very ill. In her behalf, I want to thank each of you for the flowers and cards you sent her.

The youth club of Holland has invited our club to a drug seminar on Monday, September 13th, at 7 p.m. I may not be able to go but all youths try to go since this will be very educational.

Some of the winners of the days gone by are married and have children who are now members of Lodge No. 30'.

Our District VI Queens were: Gloria ehn, now married, Susan Ilse, also was state queen, now a senior at college; Angie Sablatura, state 1st runner-up, now married; Patricia Janik, married; Madilyn Merta, a senior at El Campo High. Ben Krpec, state king,

13 is now in Germany. I am sorry some of our youth are leaving the club since age has cau ght up with them. I am proud of Marian Dorotik for bringing a trophy home, as this was her last year to participate. She has won many honors and has been a. very active member since our club organized. I hope all the young once 7:71 follow in her footsteps. Also thank., to Madilyn Merta, Josephine Krpec, Judy Dluhos, Diana Kubala, Jimmie Fucik. I hope (some will take the leadership there, since we need them. We have over 50 youths in our club which I think is a nice number for our country lodge. Each faMily is asked to bring either sandwiches or something baked. Then we can have our lunch winch everyone enjoys after our Meeting.

The youth club will el ;o meet On 'September 19th. there are any youth among our membership who are not already youth club members, they 'are missing the greatest benefits that SPJST has to offer its members. Come to our meeting on the 19th and start receiving some of these benefits.

On August 22nd there were 18 of us from Lodge 160' who made the trip to Temple to attend the state YAD. Eight of our youth who were eligible to compete at state were there. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day even if we didn't have any first place winners.

We hope that President Morris is making a speedy . recovery from his surgery and that SYD Janousek is recovering from his ailment.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Members, We held our September meeting on the 2nd. This was a little early but due to the Labor Day weekend falling on our usual meeting. time, we moved it up.

Our September social will be an old fashioned homemade ice cream social held on the lodge grounds. All members Lind their entire families are encouraged to attend. If you have a freezer, please fill it and bring it. We will furnish spoons and dishes from which to eat. This is September 19th, beginning at 2 p.m.

I want all of you to know that I am very proud of all of you who participated in YAD in any phase whatsoever. I know that it takes a lot of preparation, practice, and most of all, courage to perform before .an audience. The craft items were great. Competition was terrific, however, so our only trophy winner was Gale Montalbano with a beautiful picture in handicraft, ages 13-14... Congratulations, Gale. Let's begin now to think of the craft and/or talent you will enter next year. Thanks to all parents and friends for your support.

Sewing class members, please come to the lodge on Saturday, September 11, at 1, p.m. and bring or wear the garment you made which you will model at the lodge meeting on September 13.

At present we plan to have some sort of activity in the Youth Club Room that will interest you each Thursday night. It will be either a games party, a craft, or perhaps en the last Thursday of the month we can have cartoons for you while the parents , play games. There will be a .:small charge' for these activities, varying with the type of craft or activity.

The money collected (usually 10c per person) will be used to replace games, buy craft, materials, rent cartoon reels, etc.

October 3rd, at 3 p.m., is :another meeting date and this one will have a special entertainment afterward. Parents and guests are invited. More details later.

It was a thrilling and rewarding experience. There was something going en all the time to keep everyone entertained. There were things like horseback riding, craft, swimming, and archery. Even though it did rain we always bad a game going on or songs to sing. If we weren't doing any of these things, we were making friends. At night we would have a party and 'a dance to follow.

My little sister received a certificate of good camping. This was our vacation a !ei(i with me were my father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. King Heywood and in y sister Vivian and my two brothers Vincent and Vernon. To complete the car load we had my grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fusig. They are good sports and dOn't mind the crowded station wagon.

We headed toward Dallas and on the way stopped at West, Texas to see the Cechosiovak PabliOing Co. I knew this was where the Vestnik was printed and we were all interested in seeing the paper in action. Had a hard time locating the building since they had just put a new front on the outside and the name lwen left off.

Inside Editor, Rudy Sefeik and his wife Maxine gave us a A-1 tour. I hreugh the building and showed us hov the whole procedure worked. Quite interesting how a line of type is , of np. We got hungry about now, so daddy decided downwe should go eat. We v. — C town to a nice ,alied "Sulak's. The food was real 1 L oo0.. We then returned to the paper .nd found the press rolling. It's interesting how the type is done on both side • ; and the paper cut, folded and stacked up at the same time, On the way out, Mil . Sercik stopped us all and showed us one last thing.

The Linotype man had made plate with my dady's and mother's name and another with 111 ■,. grandparents name on it. What a surprise for us and a nice souvenir. I Picked up a few pieces of metal for a remembrance for us. As a last surprise, Mrs. Sefcik gave us some nice hothemade kolache to eat on the way to Dallas.

In Dallas, we visited Mr. and Mrs.

Vt1STNIK Bob English and their four children and then we visited Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miesch. Mrs. Miesch is a Lodge 88 member. Our next day of vacation was spent in downtown Dallas viewing the sight of President Kennedy's assassination.

Seemed like a dream seeing all the monuments and different sights. We then got on the turnpike and headed for "Six Flags". This was one exciting day filled with rides and shows and food of all kinds. Finally, as the day ended, we rode the last and most exciting ride called "The Big Bend".

Daddy said: 'It really was great. We headed for home and school the next day. My grandpa said he missed another night's sleep. It was a nice way to end the summer vacation. Hope we can make the trip again, next year.

REVEREND FRANK J. KOSTOHRYZ Reverend Frank J. Kostohryz age 73, passed away Wednesday, August 18, at his home 1015 East Adams Ave, Temple, Texas.

He was pastor of the Seaton Brethren Church for the past forty-one years. Rev. Kostohryz a pastor of the Evan gelical Unity of Brethren Church for 53_ years; was pastor of a number of other Brethren Churches also.

Rev. Kostohryz was widely known throughout Texas; he served as president of the Evangelical Unity of the Brethren Church as Sunday school superintendent of the Unity for a number of years and was author of a study book for confirmation classes and of the Texas History of the Unity.

He was a native of Caldwell, Texas and a, graduate of the University of Texas and the Austin Presbyterian Seminary in Austin, Texas. He was named outstanding citizen of Bell Co. and listed in Who's Who in Texas in 1967.

Rev. Kostohryz served as pastor of the following churches: West, Ennis, Holland, Smithville, Fayetteville, Hallettsville, Sealy, New Tabor, Temple, Ocker, Crockett, Snook, Caldwell, Dime Box, Dallas, Industry, Wesley, Nelsonville and Anton.

Funeral for F. J. Kostohryz was held Saturday August 21st at 1:30 p. m. with Harper-Talasek in charge, Rev. Henry Beseda officiated at the service, (he's from Caldwell). Burial was in Bellwcod Memorial Park, Temple.

Surviving are his wife Hermyne Kostohryz of Temple, a son Cmdr. Francis Kostohryz of the Naval Hospital. Portsmouth, Va. a, brother John ,KostohryZ

WALTER HUMPHREY

Walter R. Humphrey, died in a Ft. Worth Hospital August 21st at age 67.

He was a former editor of The Temple Daily Telegram and a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 87, Temple.

Mr. Humphrey, reached the top in his career, his church and fellowman.

He spent forty years as a Texas newspaper editor; of the Temple Telegram from November 1, 1929 until July 15, 1945. He then became editor of the Fort Worth Press and held that position until his retirement April 1, 1969.

He served as national president of Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalistic society and of the Texas Press Association. He had served as president Of the Men of the Church of the Presbyterian Church, USA. Mr. Humphrey wrote a daily column "The Home Towners", He received many national awards.

Bro. Frank Mayborn, publisher of "The Temple Daily Telegram" and members of SPJST Lodge No. 87 Temple, stated in The Temple Daily Telegram August 25, 1971 that "Mr. Humphre y will be remembered as a man who helped , build a newspaper and helped build a city."

Mr. Humphrey was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothea, two daughters and one brother.

who passed away in P. and S. Hospital in Alice, Texas on June 6, 1971. He was 26 years of age. He was born at Robstown, Texas on December 16, 1944.

He was a member of the Brethren Church in Robstown. He was the son of the late Albert Haisler, who passed away in 1970. Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. on June 8, in the Chapel of Holrngreen Mortuary in Alice.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park in Alice.

He was a farmer. He was a member of Lodge No. 152 and transferred to Lodge No. 117 when the two lodges merged in 1970.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs.11o.salie Haisler of Aqua Dulce; 3 sisters -Mrs. Terrell Austin of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Glenn Green of Edna, Miss Linda Haisler of Aqua Dulce and 4 brothers Albert Haisler Jr. of Victoria, Jimmy Haisler of La Porte, Bobby Haisler and Gene Haisler, both of Aqua Dulce.

Charles K. Stefka of Yoakum died at 905 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 1971, at Huth Memorial Hospital at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10 at 10 a, in. from the Buffington Funeral Home Yoakum, thence to the Shiner Brethren Church with the Rev. John Bravenec, Jr. of Victoria officiating.

Burial was in the Shiner Brethren Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were three grandsons Bennie Rohan of Shiner, Leslie Rohan of Garland, Franklin Rohan of Houston and three nephews George Walchar of Schulenburg, Willie H. Stefka of Danbury and Jerry Stefka of Angleton.

Mr. Stefka, one of six children, was born April 24, 1880 at Ellinger, Fayette Count y, Texas, son of Frank and Rosie (Kubin) Stefka native of Lipena, Moravia now (Czechoslovakia). He was baptized and confirmed in the Brethren faith by Rev. Henry Juren.

In 1890, when he was 10 years of age, the family moved to Shiner and settled on a 'farm in the Beasley school community and the family transferred their membership to Shiner Brethren Church.

On January 31, 1911 he was married to Frances Walchar of Weimar by the Rev. Anton Motycka. They made their home near Shiner where they followed the occupation of farming, They lived on the same place for b3 years.

Due to old age and his wife's illness they moved to Yoakuni in September 1963 and made their home with their daughter Mrs. Eleanora Rohan, where !Mrs. Stefka passed away on March 2, 19C4.

Mr. Stefka enjoyed fairly good health until April of this year when he was hospitalized for about three weeks, He Was returned to the hospital June 24 and his condition gradually worsened, however, his alertness and mind did not fail him until about 12 hours before his death when he went into a coma.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eleanora Rohan and Mrs. George (Leona) Picha both of Yoakum; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stefka was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his father February 15 1928; his mother May 2, 1924; one sister Mrs. Joe (Theresa) Matl January 9, 1926 four brothers Joe Stefka in January 3 1948; John who died at the age of 10 months; Frank Stefka April 14, 1936; Henry Stefka September 16, 1929 and one great grandson John Micheal Rohan in 1962 at the age of 12 days.

He was a member of the Shiner Brethren Church and was also a member of SPJST Lodge Vlastenec No. 45.

A devoted husband and father has entered eternal rest, leaving a vacancy in the family circle that can never be filled. He was a great service to his- community and the esteem in which he was held was evidenced in the many beautiful floral tributes and the large assemblage that came to pay their last homage or respect. He leaves a wide circle of friends throughout this section who deeply regret his departure and mourn with his loved ones.
