FROM TILE EDIT District VII YAD — Youth Achievement Day held in Corpus Christi, July 25 was in good quality and quantity. We feel that the district members appreciate the aid of Lodges 50 and '79, who were hosts and to all of them we extend our gratitude. President Frank Sacky (79) welcomed the membership and guests. Introduction of visitors was by retiring DO Jerry Elzner. SYD James Janousek is always a great help during the YADs, and he has the art of building confidence in his co-workers when needed most. DYD Maxine Pavliska was introduced and she seemed pleased with the turnout and she has a strong determination to go forward with better YADs. Then David Hrncir was introduced and he did a magnificent job emceeing the program and keeping things moving forward at a steady pace. The air-conditioned American Legion Hall was fairly filled and the audience was very attentive. One cannot help but admire the enthusiasm that prevails among the members of District VII, even though they are separated by such great distances. The number of youth participating in YAD did not let that stand in their way. The achievers were an enthusiastic group with ability and talent; the 130plus craft entries were also beautifully displayed and in the royalty competi-
NEIGHBORS A neighbor have I, old and poor. His clothes just hang together. But each day he comes by my door, No matter what the weather. He wonders if I might be cold — He will build me a fire. I know he has a heart of gold, And it is not for hire. A neighbor have I with a fine car. Pridefully he rides on. Never a call to ask how things are, Or if I want something done. I think that no more need be told — I'm sure you will agree It's better to have a heart of gold Than a family pedigree. tion there were 3 queen contestants, which showed improvement from last year. Each contestant presented her speech very nicely. The youth worked hard and were encouraged by the support of their parents, leaders, and senior members. The youth of Lodge No. 117, Robstown felt worthy of this occasion because they had many honors bestowed upon them. Connie Hrncir won Queen and Teenager of the Year; Duchess is Leanne Chapman; Brent Hrncir, Junior of the Year; Sister Thelma Hrneir is Youth Leader of the Year, and their club won Youth Club of the Year. Congratulations! There were two lodges in our Society that captured many honors for their re-
spective lodges at the District YADs. This is a very good record. Now is the time to plan your activities and earn your points for next year and see how many lodges will be able to walk away with so many honors. Good luck! The plans for the day worked well and this is entirely due to the diligent efforts of the youth leaders who worked hard with arrangements and tabulations. Sister Anne Spencer was the designer and seamstress of the Beseda costumes for the dancers of Lodges 56 and 79. All who volunteered were busy and deserve thanks. The evening may seem long to those who sit and observe but to those who must complete all the tasks required before an award can be given, it is never long enough before time is up. It is after all of this that your editor's work really begins at each YAD; the winners' pictures must be taken and yours truly really does appreciate all of the cooperation he receives so the pictures of all winners, which are possible to obtain are taken. Thanks very much' to all concerned at each respective YAD, 13(ecause that long trip back to West so we can be at work Monday morning is necessary so the Vestnik can be ready to go, and the quicker we can depart, the easier it makes it. To leave at 6 p.m. and drive 335 miles is rather tiring, and that is why we generally leave "in a RUSH."
