JULY 28, 1971

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK District VI YAD observation — In the midst of warm hospitality of Taiton's Lodge No. 30, the Youth Achievement Day was a large success. Chuck Schwartzkopf, a well-known celebrity in Wharton County called the assembly together for an enjoyable evening. He introduced Monsignor Julius Petru of Taiton, who made an inspiring speech in which he sincerely stressed the fact that the youth owe the adults their respect for their presence. Then DYD Elsie Brdecka, was Mistress of Ceremonies, who kept the entire program on a steady pace. At this point — the editor would like to stress the fact, that Sister Brdecka is the only DYD in the state who holds this position since the origin of DYDs. Yes, this is a long time and her district and Society will vouch for her, who gave selflessly of her time, energy and made many personal sacrifices. Sister Brdecka is to be commended for her efficiency. There were 186 craft entries, a fine variety and large representation of talent in all categories. Climaxing the event was the royalty contest. There were 5 queen candidates and 3 king candidates. District VI had someone special to share the achievement day with and that was State Queen Patsy Kalina of Lodge No. 58, Hungerford,

THE OTHER ROOM If you go first, dearest love Into that other room Leave ajar the portals fair For I will follow soon. Mark the way with loving thought Speak and I shall hear. Call my name and I will come To be with you my dear. If you .go first, wait for me. not, but wait I will take the selfsame path Through that eternal gate. Hasten

We'll go hand in hand Into that other room. If you go first, walk slowly on I will follow soon. who had the honor to participate and crown the new queen. State Queen Patsy will relinquish her title at the State Royalty Contest, which will be held September 12th at Lodge No. 88, Houston. Each contestant presented their speech very well. The competition was also keen and the judges had a difficult time arriving at a decision. This was indeed an exciting day for the members of Lodge No. 153, La Salle because they had many great honors bestowed upon them. Sally Sembera won. Queen and Teenager of the Year, Duchess Melany Drastata

"Junior of the Year", and won 1st place in three craft entries; their youth club won Youth Club of the Year", and Martha Sembera — Youth Leader of the Year". This is a very good record for one lodge. Congratulations! Let's not forget the ones who didn't place first and win. There will be more of these than there will be those who capture the coveted 1st place. Those who make an effort and don't win rarely receive enough encouragement. Don't withhold encouragement when it's needed most. While at the Distritt VI YAD, your editor had an occasion to discuss our Society with some sincere dedicated longtime members, especially one who has held ma ny positions of public trust. He made the remark: "You know, Br. Rudy, in fraternal work especially, the old adage stands very true: "As ye shall sow, so shall ye reap." Truer words were never spoken. These dedicated gray haired and aged members respect the youth and strive to assist them, however, at the same time, watch the actions within our Society and it is well that they do so. • • We regret that we could not attend the District II YAD in Taylor on that same date, however, we thank District II DYD Frank Klinkovsky for contacting us beforehand and we hope —
