FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Members in District VII do not overlook your district meeting, because you will have an opportunity to express and voice your opinions, Sunday, April 25, at Lodge No. 107, Floresville, acting as host lodge. For your information refer to the outlined program in this issue. Be sure that your lodge officer(s) or any interested member will be represented. This is your last reminder.

Will you be there? Help support your district officers, because they are the ones you place confidence and leadership in to make your district grow and be successful.

The members of Lodge No. 25 Ennis should be praised for their enthusiasm to go forward after losing a lodge home in a fire. This did not stop them from progress. They accepted the disaster very sensibly, and they stuck together to keep their lodge going. On April 3 their determination became a reality; they held their groundbreaking ceremonies on a new site, with some of the 50-year members present.

• • Remember that Daylight Saving Time becomes effective at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, April 25. This means that we all will lose one hour for six months (be cheated out of one hour's sleep that night) and we will not get it back until Sunday, September 26, when we receive the hour back.

The farmers and ranchers certainly are breathing a sigh Of relief; can we blame them?

• • We have received information via State Rep. Brother Dan Kubiak about the suggestion of the Dept. of Transportation that farm truck and equipment drivers be required to be 21 years of age, be certified carriers, pass road tests and pass an exam (all given by the federal government). Quite frankly, this may be in order for commercial carrier drivers, however, when we analyze the situation from the farmer's and rancher's standpoint, honestly, we have to realize that this -would be almost an impossible situation. A youth, 21 years of age or older, is very rarely

found to still be on the farm. Your editor, having been brought up to young manhood on a farm, knows the situation as it existed 25 years ago and also now; the farmer or rancher needs his young folks to help out while they are going to school during the school season and spending the summer at home. Although times have changed somewhat and farming has become more mechanized, the situation has not. He needs the youngsters' help at times-. Let us take for example this area around this friendly country town of West here in the midst of a farming Central Texas section of our state.

When your editor and family moved here in the month of January, 1969, there were quite a number of things which were observed; the young people in the surrounding territory were helping their famties by doing a number of duties which at times could be considered to be done only by adults, however, where do we get them if they are not available?

• • It is at a lodge meeting where you may see and learn just haw well your officers are managing your affairs. It is at a lodge meeting when you will learn about your own fellow members who may be in need of your help or whose family is in distress. It is at the lodge meeting where you might learn of the illness of your sister or brother mein-

Therefore, may we urge: each one of you to attend your local lod ge meetings, and especially to inake, .certain that you are present at the annual lodge meeting, where you will help to chart the course for Idle future of your Society.

18 it occurred to the membership of your lodge that a wise, prudent, "sharp" president can mean the difference between success and failure, in ,your lodge's activities? An industrious leader surrounded by equally industrious officers, can not only enhance interest in lodge meetings, but in the Overall progress of the lodge, A Wellconducted and active meeting can be the basis for future successful meetings, and will certainly draw members to the meetings. A poorly-conducted meeting that flounders around in 'meaningless matters, with little or no real direction or leadership, will most assuredly drive and keep members away, and it should not surprise anybody. A drop in attendance is the beginning of the ,decline of any lodge, so do not let this happen to your lodge!

Brother Skrabanek was buried in the Seaton Cemetery, and was a member of Lodge Hvezda Texasu No. 47, Seaton.

Kolar Family Reunion The descendants of John, Frank, Emil Kolar, and Mary (Kolar) Hajek will have their third annual family reunion Sunday, April 25, 1971, at the SPJST Hall in West (Lodge No. 54). Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Holliday of Austin are parents of a daughter, Christa Leah, born March 7, which is also the birthday of Mrs. Holliday, the former Miss Judy Ann Macek. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Macek, formerly of San Angelo, and the Rev.. and Mrs. Cecil Holliday of Johnson City. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Hester Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Homer L. Neilson, all of Austin. This is the first and only granddaughter of Brother and Sister Macek. Mrs.• Robert Holliday and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Macek are all SPJST members.

Sister Theresie Motl, age 88, succumbed March 20, 1971 in Killeen. Sister Motl was laid to rest in the Killeen City Cemetery, and was -a member of Lodge Hyezda, Texasu No. 47, Seaton.

Brother Frank Sontag, age 76, died March 20, 1971 in Needville, and burial was held in the White Cemetery, Crosby, Texas. Brother Sontag was a member of Lodge Pokrok Houston, No. 88.

Refund checks were distributed and the door prize was won by Brother Anton Pesak.

The weather was ideal for the Faster egg hunt which was enjoyed by several youngsters. The prize egg went to Jo Ann 'StaVillOha 1'ra Ilk Stransky took the second prize for Jinding the least, and Mark Stavinolia took the 1st prize. All were very happy that the Easter Bunny had remembered them.

In the last meeting,' Sister Bryson asked to be relieved of her reporting job, so the members have elected me to take her place. Sister Bryson was a good reporter and I hope I'll do as well.

GROUNDBREAKING FOR LODGE 25, ENNIS, HELD SATURDAY, APRIL 3 Favored by a beautiful spring day, an impressive groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday, April, 3, at the 'commanding new location of the Delta building to be, erected as the home of SPJST Lodge No. 25, on Highway 34, east.

Rev. Leon Duesman of St. John Parish gave the invocation.

President Johnnie Hrabina, president Of the lodge, was master of ceremonies and extended a cordial welcome to all gathered for the affair, to which the public was invited.

In his address, Brother Hrabina gave interesting highlights of the fraternity's history: "We wish to welcome you to our official groundbreaking ceremonies, and to share with us the excitement of our first step towards the construction of our new lodge• home.

"This is the 3rd structure which Lodge 25 will build, the first was constructed in the early 1900s, soon after it became one of the charter lodges of the SPJB

"As the membership increased, there was a need for a newer, and larger building, so in the 1920s, a new one was constructed which was styled after the capitol of Texas building, or with a dome on top. At that time it was an outstanding structure for there was not another like it in this area. Just after World War II, repairs had to be made, and the high dome was removed and other improvements were made to modernize the building. Just three years ago, the lastest improvement was the addition of a complete air conditioning system.

"On July 3, 1970, this landmark disappeared in a fire, which completely destroyed the building. Our loss was staggering, but with a realization that we had to replace our lodge home, plans were made and adopted to rebuild after a better and more suitable location had been found.

"On this six-acre tract, we will construct a metal and brick building, which will offer space for meetings, youth activities and community programs and recreational facilities for

all, Our, aim is to create a community

of high moral standards, to support the community through charitable benefits, to provide a home to the membership, to whom we offer financial protection throUgh fraternal life insurance.

"So now we ask that you witness the groundbreaking ceremonies, and afterward we will have the introduction of guest speakers and visiting dignitaries and officials."

President Hrabina called attention to the appreciated presence of 50-year members: Mrs. John Jaresh, John J. Jaresh, Frank B. Vrla, Charlie Bobalik, John Luksa, Al Gurecky, Joe F. Haskovec, Frank Jaresh, Louis Kudrna, Sr. Interesting talks were made by a 'number of the old timers and dignitaries of the fraternity, including Supreme Lodge President Nick Morris, Vice-President of the Supreme Lodge Joe B. Hejny. District III Director Sid Pokladnik, Sonoma Mayor Pro-Tem Albert Haskovec, Chamber of Commerce Manager Jack McKay. Wednesday, April 21, 1971 Henry Stringfellow, Jr., and our sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Pauline Kuropata who departed this life this past week. Mrs. Kuropata was not a member Of our lodge, but most of her family is. Our sympathy also goes to Mary Johnson who lost a sister last week.

Eighty members and three transfers were accepted into Lodge 88. President Itelmcamp initiated 16 members into the lodge in a very impressive ceremony and in the absence of Brother Ernest Hanka, Second Vice-President Emil Horelica gave an inspiring charge to the new members. Again, we welcome you into our midst and hope you will enjoy the friendship of our members. I am sure I don't need to tell you that the more you out into the lodge, the more you get out of it.

The Entertainment Committee was honored at the April meeting and a clever skit was put on by Della Kadlecek, Evelyn Ehler, Marcell Malak, Louise Kadlecek, Steve Kelly, Tommy Caraway, Willie Wehring, Clarence Ehler and Jerry Erinis. If this skit had a name, it escapes me, but if I had to name it, I would call it "The Salty Dinner." All the actors had a hand at Seasoning it, and really did a superb job of entertaining us. Alineda Bravenec of the Entertainment Committee won the centerpiece mirror which was donated by Mr. Pocarello of the Binswanger Glass Company. This member is too lucky — she won the door prize last month.

We were honored to have as visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Vargera from Czechoslovakia, and their small daughter.

Vargera spoke to the membership in his native language concerning experiences while still citizens of their native land.

The committee chairmen gave their respective reports for the month of March, and all were very favorable. rother Anton Motl gave the audit committee's report. Brother Clarence 'Sodek read the minutes of the board meeting, informing the membership of their deliberations. We acted on the recommendation to purchase acreage adjacent to the lodge property from Brother Ed and Sister Rosa Schneider.

We voted to purchase this land for future expansion of possible activities and for parking at our picnics.

Brother Dan Balusek, lodge president, presided at that part of the meeting. He also announced the organizational meeting of all interested musicians to play in the concert band to be held on April 29, at 7:30 p.m.

This is an invitation to all who can read music.

The work day at the hall was discussed and the date set for April 24, all day. There will be some painting to be done, grass to be cut, filters cleaned, etc., so come prepared with the tools necessary for the various jobs.

The next lodge meeting will be a nightinie meeting in conjunction with honoring the lodge high school graduates, and will be held on Friday, April

The youth reports were given by Brother Frankie Klinkovsky. He stated 12 teens and 1 visitor were present and 28 juniors, 4 visitors, and 2 new members, for a total of 47. The teens went bowling for their social. The juniors are selling Stanley products to pay their way to Six Flags on Sunday, June 13. Their deadline to turn in the money or the products is May 31. Sister Dana Balusek has charge of this project and gave her report.

Brother Frank V. Spanhel was declared the winner of the door prize for the month of April.

After adjournment, the children enjoyed the Easter egg hunt. Then everyone partook of a delicious lunch of sandwiches, cakes, pies, cookies, etc., and coffee and tea. Thank you sisters, for bringing such an abundance of good food.

10 PLAY BY BLAIIOL DRAMATIC CLUB On Sunday, May 2, at 2:30 P.m., members of the Dramatic Club Hlahol will present a Czech play "Smejte se s nami" ("Let's Laugh Together"). The liberetto depicts the life of the millers in the days of the old Bohemian flour mills with plenty of comedy.

This beautiful Czech play is under the fine direction of our Jan Schroif and performed by an oustanding cast of actors: Milo Karel, Mary Johnson, Wilhelmina Simecek, John Trenig, Tim Kostom, Jerry Pokorny, Karel Sicner, and Jan Schroif himself with Frances Olexa as prompter.

The Czech play will be preceded by a tasty fish fry at noon and followed by a free dance to the lively music of the well-known Clarence Baca and his dance band. Don't miss this colorful Czech comedy. The actors are rehearsing for a fine performance, so that everyone may have a good time. Tell your friends and come early.

Reports DISTRICT I ORGANIZER'S REPORT The month of March wasn't quite as productive as the previous month but that doesn't mean that we didn't do -good. I still think that we are doing good. We sold 25 members for $39,500 of insurance in March and a total of 51 members for $203,500 during the

first three months. We are very much on our way toward reaching our quota even sooner than we did in 1970. Let's not give up; let's see how soon we can reach our quota this year. We have several new organizers on our list; and some have already written several applications and some haven't gotten started yet, but I am looking forward to seeing your names on the productive list real soon.

Brother Melvin Skrabanek was first in March sales with $10,000; Brother Willie Trcalek was second with $9,000, and Brother Frank Rychlik was third with $7,000.

We had 26 organizers who went out and brought back business to our lodges. I hope all Of you who did not work during March will really get busy in April. Don't let the days go by without selling something.

We had our district meeting at Lodge No. 142 and had a. wonderful dinner served. Those of you who didn't make the district meeting, sure missed a good day of fellowship with your brothers and sisters.

We have added a new lodge to our district and to our state. How wonderful it is to dedicate a new lodge into our SPJST, as in the RoSenberg, Ric,hmond and Sugar Land area. The potential there is great. We wish the new Fort Bend Lodge 175 much luck.

Up until now, there has been no real family-type activity for these people nor for their youth. Now we know that they will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for fellowship. As all the new organizers of L o d ge 175 get out and enroll new members, this lodge will really begin to grow and much progress will be seen.

Three months of 1971 have passed by fast, and we have written 340 members and $986,500 in insurance, so let's see what we can do this next three months.

We are planning on having two special classes, one in Rosenberg and one in Galveston. Hope to see all you organizers at whichever one of these classes that is clOser for you. It is to your benefit to attend one of these classes, and I assure you that you learn from it.

Janousek, —.SPJ SP— FROM THE DISTRICT YOUTH DIRECTORS DISTRICT IV YOUTH DIRECTOR Dear Members, First of all I want to apologize for not writing sooner about cur District IV meeting which was held March 28 at Wall, Texas, hosted by Lodge No. 169, San Angelo. The ladies deserve lots of credit for providing all the good home-cooked food for lunch which was all free, eat as much as you like; it was delicious. Thanks to you all.

I think the meeting was very constructive. We enjoyed having all the visitors from other districts, and expressing their views. The Supreme Lodge officers' short talks were just what the people wanted. I must say this was one District 4 meeting that I can say that I know what went on, and what was done. I do hope that District IV does remember to attend our YAD on June 13, at Abilene and support our youth. Congratulations to, the San Angelo Youth Club for being the only youth club providing the entertainment for the meeting. The style show was hilarious. Mrs. Margie Socha and her helpers deserve lots of credit for working so hard with the youth club. Keep up the good work.

March 21 27, - I attended the Longhorn Recreational Laboratory at Glen Rose. This laboratory was attended by individuals from various groups and organizations working with youth or adults in recreation. Many' experiences were provided in the area of planned recreation and creative arts.

The activities of the laboratory included workshops in party planning, human relations, leadership, youth relations, nature study, homemade games, camping skills, photography, fishing and wood jewelry. Thanks to the Supreme Lodge for making it possible for us youth directors to attend this laboratory. I have attended sev' oral of them and I have gained much knowledge each time.

Admission to the rare opportunity locally to learn more about Czechoslovakian music and culture will be 'only $1 per person and tickets will be sold at the door by the Hillje Youth Club, according to Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Schwartzkopf, adult leaders.

Appearing in Tailon directly from appearances in Toronto, New York, and Chicago will be Waldemar Matuska, one of Czechoslovakia's most famous singers during the past decade and a favorite of East European teenagers.

However, his wide musical repertory ranges from the latest American and European hits to traditional Czech and Slovak folk songs and American folk songs that have been translated into Czech.

He and his lovely singing mate, Olga Blechova, will demonstrate the talents that, have made them stars of Prague television, radio, records, stage and motion pictures.

A professional 12-piece orchestra directed by Vaclav klybs, one of Czechoslovakia's leading popular music composers and conductors, will feature everything from rock and roll to jazz and folk songs.

The public is cordially invited to attend the entertaining stage show, in English and in Czech, and a dance to follow. We know you will all have a good time and at the same time benefit our Hillje Youth Club.

The Polka Festival is almost here and our float is shaping up nicely.

Of course, our souvenirs will need members to sell them, both downtown and at the hall, so let me know in advance when you can work. Since so many youth are directly involved with the Parade, we may have to get a mother to help out during this time. Any volunteers?

The dietitian at the local hospital called me to express thanks for the tray favors the youth made and sent to the patients on Faster. They were miniature Easter baskets and looked lovely.

Dorothy Prachyl, Youth Leader .FTJ STLODGE NO. 142, HOUSTON Dear Vestnik Readers, Our April youth club meeting was held on March 26; it was well attended.

First of all I would like to thank the youth for being in the District V program. They were Steven Tanner, Patricia Vrana, Rudy Vrana, Peggy and Michael Machacek. They did a good job.

On April 10 we had our Easter egg hunt. Only a few ye4u.th attended since it was the day before Easter and everyone went out of town.

On April 15, the teens went to see the Ice Follies and they all enjoyed it very much and so did I. The youth leader at Lodge 88 invited us to go skating with them at the Trade Winds, on Sunday, April 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., so if you want to go let me know. My number is UN 1-6822.

April 30 at 8 p.m., we will have our May meeting, so be sure and attend this meeting. We will have election of officers and. I will also have the camp applications for you to fill out as to who will go to camp.

After the meeting we will have a party for the juniors who could not attend the Easter egg hunt, so let's come out and have a good time.

While Sister Balusek worked with some of the older members with Tri-Chem, the smaller ones were outside hunting Easter eggs. Later everyone enjoyed a covered dish supper.

Dear Vestnik Readers, We had our monthly meeting and Easer party on April 8. The meeting was opened by our president, Dun Bayer. The pledge- was said by all.

After the meeting was adjourned we practiced our skit for the district meeting. Then we had our Easter party. For entertainment we had a domino tournament. First place was won by Albin Horak, Jr., and Wayne Iselt, second place by Mrs. Albert Kubena and Marlene Horak, and third place by Gary Iselt and Pat March. Everyone had a good time.

Dear Readers, On Sunday, April 4, the youth club (66) had an Easter egg hunt. We invited children from the State Home.

About 25 attended. Also the parents of the youth were invited. After the hunt we enjoyed cookies and homemade ice cream made by the youth.

Later in the evening, six adults and sixteen children played a game of soft ball — the children against the adults. The game was forfeited with the score 12-9, adults ahead. because they were too pooped to continue playing.

Our District III meeting will be coming up in Fort Worth. We hope to see many of our youth there.

VISTNfIC LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Readers, The youth club of Hallettsville held their regular meeting on March 12.

At this meeting we discussed our Easter egg hunt we usually have for everyone. To make it a little different everyone was to bring a hard boiled egg that they had decorated and from these the prettiest would be chosen. Following the meeting everyone went to the Little League diamond to play baseball.

After playing for an hour everyone came back tired and weary, but happy and ready to get some refreshments.

On April 4, the youth club went to the District VI Spring meeting in Moulton to participate in the program. We were one of a number of youth clubs that participated in the program. The meeting was very informative and enjjoyed by everyone.

Following the meeting refreshments and a lunch was available to everyone.

RESOLUTION OF SYMPATHY Brother Clarence E. Simcik, Sr., of Route 2, Taylor, died in a Austin hospital early Monday morning, March 29, as a result of a car-pedestrian accident in the 1900 block of West Second St. at 9:10 the proceeding evening.

Born June 29, 1927 in Taylor, Brother Simcik was an employee of the Taylor Bedding Manufacturing Co. Formerly a resident of Granger, he was a member of Lodge Komensky No. 20 of Granger, also a veteran of World War II, a member of the Granger Brethren Church, and Granger American Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Simcik of Taylor; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simcik of Taylor; three daughters, Mrs. Ronnie Steffek of :Thorndale, Mrs. Charlie Mikulencak of Taylor and Miss Jacqueline Simcik of Austin; three sons, Clarence Simcik, Jr.

of Austin, John and George Simcik of Granger; a sister, Mrs. Edward Wolbrueck of Taylor; two brothers, Jerry and Rubin Simcik of Taylor, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, at 4 p.m. from the' Condra, Memorial Chapel in Taylor with the Rev. Frank Simcik and the Rev. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery.

Mr. Skrabanek was born in Seaton.

He graduated from Temple High School where he was active in school affairs. He received a BS. degree in petroleum biology from the University of Texas. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War and was disabled.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Austin, and of several societies of gology in chemical engineering.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Michael Frank Skrabanek Of Austin; and

his mother, Mrs. Frank Skrabanek of Temple.

Organist and soloist were Misses Susan and Valerie Girek, great nieces of Sister Navara. Burial was in SPJST Pavelka Cemetery near Elk. Sister Navara was born November 26, 1899 at Elk. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Kathrine Pechacek. She was educated in the Elk school and attended the Sacred Heart Academy in Waco. She was married to Adolph Navara on November 26, 1919, in Waco. They had farmed all •their married life in the Elk Community until her husband's health failed after which time she moved to Waco, in

VtSTNIN April, 1970. She had suffered four heart attacks during the last year and a stroke on February 6, 1971. At the time of her death she was living temporarily with her daughter, Mrs. John (Edna) Mach, near Axtell. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Waco.

Sister Navara was a member of Lodge No. 35, Elk, for more than fifty years. She was an active member until her health failed. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Adolph Navara of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco; three daughters, Mrs. John (Edna) Mach of Axtell, Mrs. Otis J. (Emma) Ceska of Waco, and Mrs. Fred (Margurite) Mach of Waco; six sisters, Mrs. Mary Marek, Mrs. Bessie Krupa, and Mrs. Albina Farek, all of Elk, Mrs Sallie Hejl of Ross, Mrs. Minnie Virgin of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Lydia Douglas of California; five half-sisters, Mrs. Helen Hull of 2137 Sugg, Waco, Mrs. Hattie Schenec.kner and Mrs. Josephine Bordovsky, bath of Marte Mrs; Rosalie Bordovsky of Elk, and Mrs. Elizabeth Coleman of Morton; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

HARVESTING OYSTERS Harvesting of oysters in the coastal waters of Texas is in full swing, and purchasers of the delicacy should have no qualms about eating them provided the oysters come from certified sources, says the Texas State Department of Health.

Although mercury pollution has caused a small portion of Lavaca Bay to be closed to oyster harvesting, other approved areas are providing the wellliked seafood. Even the oysters in the closed portion of Lavaca Bay appear to be cleansing themselves. Samples of oysters collected from this area are now showing a substantial reduction in mercury densities.

If the reductions should continue at the present rate, there is a possibility that at least a portion of the area now closed can be reopened by next oyster season D. J. Johnson, director of Marine Resources of the State Health Department, noted that oysters should be taken only from areas approved by the State Health Department. He advises all processors and harvesters to make certain that their oysters are taken from clean waters. State regulations also specify that all oysters be processed in clean, certified shucking plants.

Consumers can help protect themselves. When purchasing oysters, look for a state certification number on the can, jar or package. If it's there,

it means the oysters have been processed in accordance with state laws. If it's not there, you may be dealing with oysters taken from polluted waters or processed under insanitary conditions, says Johnson.

The reason for concern over "bootleg" oysters is that they may have come from waters of questionable quality, have been opened under insanitary conditions and stored in unclean containers without adequate refrigeration.

Contaminated oysters have been known to transmit all the water-borne diseases — including typhoid fever, gastroenteritis and infectious hepatitis.

The Shellfish Sanitation Law of 1965 makes it unlawful for any person to take, sell, offer or hold for sale any shellfish from an area declared by the Commissioner of Health to be polluted.

FAYETTEVILLE SCHOOL Fayetteville Rural High School has received 26 first grade readers and 20 second grade readers from Czechoslovakia's Ministry of Education, according to Jesse J. Jochec, Czech instructor.

Mr. Jochec stated that this is a good supply of readers to be used in the corning years by the fifth and sixth grade students of the Fayetteville Elementary School. In addition, he also received many valuable pamphlets in several foreign languages, including English. These pamphlets are in beautiful colors, depicting Czechoslovakia's beautiful castles, spas, churches, mountains, etc.

In the past two years, Mr. ,Tochec has received many valuable gifts, including an excellent book on the CzechMoravian Brethren in the English language. Mr. Jeehec thinks this might have been done upon the recommendation of Dr. Vaclav Hunacek, who knows his church affiliation. Recently he received a diary book. For the past two years he has been showered with vegetable seeds, including cucumber, parsley, and others. These seeds came from individual businessmen of Czechoslovakia. These gifts he thinks, resulted from an article he had published in the Czech language. This same article was republished in Czechoslovakia.

It seems that the credit for obtaining these readers for the Fayetteville Public Schools due to Dr. John M. Skrivanek, professor of the Slavonic languages at the A&M University, and to Dr. Vaclav Hunacek at the Charles University in Prague, who had worked

Wednesday, April 21, 1971 witn the Texas Education Agency in Austin in 1970, in promoting the teach ing of the Czech language in Texas public school. Both these educators have been and still are vitaly interested in arousing the Czech people to continue the Czech culture in . America.

Bratr Morris byl zamestnan, tak nas zavedla bratru Hejnemu a ten nas pekne privital a potom nas povodii po cele budove. Kdy2 zahajil v roce 1967 na Svetoye vkstave v Montrealu, neSettili chvalou (jedna vela z elanku v d.asopisu The New Yorker je i na‘Sim. titulkem).

Bylo eim se chlubit. Kinoautomat byl bombou, ktera, ptitahovala k deskoslovenskemu pavilonu navStevniky. Byl magnetem, ktery zprisoboval, ze tu sta.ly nekolikahodinove fronty, mladi i staid navSlevnici. Mezi divaky Kinoautomatu byli tenkrat i naSi krajane, pravem pySni na div, kterY jejich stara vlast vyslala za mote. Psali jste nam, mill ptatele, z Kanady i Arneriky o tom divu v nadem pavilonu.

Bylo ale ten mnoho tech, vlastne vetSina naSich denata, ktera ptedstaveni Kinoautomatu nevidela. Co je to tedy Kinoautomat? Tdd', kdy jej rriame v Praze a kdy jsem mohla zasednout v setmelem hlediSti kina Svetozor ve Vodiekove ulici,- to mohu tici z vlastnich tiojma. Tedy znate Laternu magiku?

Nem podobneho je i Kinoautomat — spojeni filmu s 2ivYm hercem, jak to bYvalo kdysi v zadatcich filmu, za pana, Ponrepa. Samortejme — film neni nemY, ale zvukovY. Ale to neni jeho hlavni zvlaRnost. Ono nova tkvi v torn, ze divak se zadastriuje a rozhoduje o rozvijeni deje, ktery vidi na platne.

HLINENt PINAR A KRASA Z BECHYNE Keramicke vYroba byla od pradavna v eeskoslovensku vYrobnim oborem, jeho vSTrobky nachozely odbyt nejen doma, ale i daleko za hranicemi. VYznamnYin pomocnikem stale vice se rozvijejici keramicke vYroby, je naSe nejstar gi keramicka 'Skala v iihoeeske Bechyni. kola byla otevtena 17. biezna 1884.

Nejprve zde byl obor kanmatskY.-. Od roku 1886 ptibyl odbor umeleckeho hmeitstvi a od roku 1897 i obor keramicke malby. Prvniho saki 1954 byla otevtena p•i dosavadni Skole druhe, etytleta prumyslova kola chemickotechnologicka..

Vzhledem ke svemu modernimu vybaveni a bohate keramicke tradici se stala kola v Bechyni od roku 1966 mistem, kde se potadaji mezinarodni keramicka sympezia. Od prveho sctkani se zde vysttidala krome na gich keranil/al tada vSrznamnSrch umelca z cele Evropy. 13yll to haste z Belgie, Polska, Rumunska, Sovetskeho svazu, v3icarska, Rakouska, Francie, Holandska, obou nemeckSTch statil, Anglia, Danska, Turecka a Mad'arska. Tato akce dala podnet ke zfizeni mezinarodniho keramickeho muzea.

Za celoho sveho trvani vySlo ze Skoly 1626 absolventti. Nekteti z nich pokraeovali ye studiu na Akademii vStvarnSrch umeni, j.ini na Vysoke S,kole ninelecko-prilmyslove.
