Selling life insurance is the "science of sincerity" because insurance, is very much a part of that marketing area in which the real salesman can nut be replaced. Features CZECH LODGE ELECTS FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT (The following article appeared in the Feb. 17th edition of the Houston Post and was written by Elizabeth Bennett, Post reporter).

The Houston branch of The Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas has just elected its first woman president. She is Tillie Krejci Helmcamp, large, friendly woman who grew up in a Czech neighborhood at, Weimar in a family of nine children.

Her whole life revolves around the group and its activities. and when she's not on the phone offering help to grief stricken members following a death in the family she's probably attending a lodge board meeting or sitting in with the Birthday Club Sisters, an auxiliary group.

"Benevolence, humanity, and brotherhood," explains Mrs. ljetrucamp solemnly. "These are the three things we stand for in life and they are what our order is rat."

It all beg, "the beautiful city she says.

"Several. of 0 1:1 :: fathers of Czechoslovak origin met, got a charter from the State of Texas, and organized a fraternal order under the name of 'hlovanska Podporujici Jednote Stahl Texus'."

4 the Society now includes Poles, Yugoslays, Russians, and a scattering of non-Slavic types.

The SPJST has local lodges scattered throughout Texas, more than 40,000 members, large amounts of insurance in force, and assets for protecting its members that rise into the millions of dollars, reports Mrs. Helmcamp. One of her jobs is signing every new policy j.ssued by the local group.

Her other jobs, which she considers more fun than work, include attending supper and social hour every Thursday at the lodge and a dance every Saturday. She also oversees innumerable activities for younger members, who have their own specialized inner groups such as the Junior Club, Intermediate Club, and Teen Club, summer day camps, and ceramics and sewing classes.

Other lodge activities include a Czech choral group, plays and movies about Czechoslovakia, and birthday parties on a grand scale.

The last birthday party was on Valentine's Day and celebrated the sixth anniversary of the new lodge at 1435 Beall. It laSted all day. A braised beef dinner service began at 11:30 a.m. and continued until sandwich time in late afternoon. Dancing began at 2 p.m.— and battle dancing, at that, which means that two or more bands "battle it out" or take turns playing so there's continuous music. That lasted until 9.

The brochure sent out to all members about the event said, "There will be something for everyone." And they meant it. Activities for youngsters are always provided when adults get together so parents don't have to get babysitters, according to Mrs. Helmcamp. There were such things as baseball and indoor games, all chaperoned, "Our parents always know where their kids are," she says, "and our kids like their social life with SPJST as much as we do." Her daughter Jeannette, a junior high school math teacher, grew up amidst all the lodge activities, was a lodge sweetheart at one time, and later became president of the Czechoslovak Club at the University of Texas.

A niece of Mrs. Helmcamp's, now a journalism major at UT, got her first writing experience on the lodge paper (published half in English and half in Czech) and was a SPJST state queen.

The girl's brother is now president of the Lodge Teen Club.

JOHN'S TiliLitAP If you say that Ray Trlica, Lhief physical therapist at St. John's Hospital, is elated at the prospect of moving into new and larger quarters on Pie hospital's ground floor, that would be putting it mildly.

You need visit with Ray only a few minutes on the job to realize that he measures everything by what can be done to improve patients physically and to make them more sure of them_ selves.

"All that room to treat the patients," Ray erupted. "All those new things.

This is the biggest thing that's happenal in quite sometime."

Trlica is going to have a number of ` ambulators' in his new facility. In the ambulator the patient puts on a har ness which attaches him to a track rooted in the ceiling. He also may operate between parallel bars. All this is absolute assurance to the patient that he is not going to fall as he learns his walking prOcesses over again. Falling is a real fear with many patients.

"He couldn't fall if he wanted to," explains Trlica.

Trlica says he considers the new _facilities about as unhospital-like as can be. Large windows give the patient a fine view of the outside.

Many of the physicist therapy patients come iu from the outside. This is especially true of arthritis patients.

Trlica says the move to the ground floor shortens the distance they must travel from the parking lots, and two of the parking lots are nearby.

Also, there is piped-in music for the physical therapy patient.

Trlica and his staff have worked out a two-way communications system which a patient can activate by pulling a string. This means that an attendant will come promptly when needed. At the other end the staff

Sist er Olexa stated that the editor's new office was almost ready for occupancy. Bro. Vrla remarked that he had just visited the new quarters for the editor, and in his opinion found them to be very satisfactory. Erb. Mazanee made a motion to send the Supreme Lodge a letter expressing the Publication Committee's thanks for their having approved the Publication Committee's recommendation in providing a new office for our editor in West, Texas.

No letters were received by the Publication Committee for review during the year 1970.

Bro. Hejl questioned the amount of rental for the editor's office. It was stated to be $75 a month and utilities, beginning February 1, 1971.

Bro. Holasek gave a brief description of what had been done to remodel the office of the editor.

Sister Olexa brought up for discussion a letter written by Bro. Jarda Cerny which appeared in the January 13 issue of the Vestnik. It was the unanimous opinion of the Publication Committee that this letter should not have been permitted to appear in our estnik. Our editor, Bro. Sefcik, and our SL President, Bro. Morris engaged in a lengthy discussion on the matter.

A motion was made and unanimously passed to print a letter in the Vestnik on the matter, signed by the Publication Committee, and to appear in the January 27 issue of the Vestnik. It was agreed that the letter sent to the Vestnik by the Ptiblication Committee would be sufficient and that no other letters would be published in the Vestnik on this matter.

Bro. Sefcik brought up a question concerning the editor's expense for SPJST functions.

He remarked that the next convention should make clear what expenses the editor is entitled to receive. Bro. Morris suggested that the editor contact the Supreme Lodge officers when he had doubt about any particular expenses.

A discussion was held between Bro. Morris and Pro. Sefcik concerning the 7.,o:iii.on. of the District Organizer in District 4.

Bro. Sefcik was reminded that questionable letters should be referred to the Publication Committee.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.

NO. 173, GALVESTON SPRING DANCE AND BARBECUE Dear Readers, A combination barbecue and spring dance will be given by Lodge Galveston No. 173, SPJST, on Saturday, March 20, at the Brewery Workers's Hall 7201 Heard's Lane (Avenue P 1/2 ). Music will be furnished by The Texas Dutchmen.

Barbecue serving will be between 7 and 9 p.m. Dancin,g will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $2.50, which includes barbecue and the dance.

Dear Members, The remodeling of our lodge hall is finished and I wish to remind you that our next regular meeting will be this Sunday, March 7, at 3 p.m.

Fraternally, Bennie Soukup, Reporter - SPJST-LODGE NO. 24, CYCLONE Dear Members and Friends, Here it is the beginning of a new month and I hope this finds everyone well and happy.

Our last monthly social was held on Friday, February 19 at 7 p.m. We had a very nice turnout of members and visitors. Our special guests for the social were Capt. P. D. Johnson and Sgt. Vernon McKinzie of the Temple Police Dept., and Deputy, Sheriff Peerp

Moore. We certainly •enjoyed the interesting film and display of drugs which were shown. This is something each of us need to know more about and those who missed our social surely missed a worthwhile evening. We would like to thank these officers for their time and invite them to come back again.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a real good lunch prepared by the good cooks of our hall. Thank you for what you brought, ladies.

Some of us played a few games for awhile and all seemed to have fun. Our next social will be on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m.

The opening of our enlarged hall was a success on February 2.1 even though the weather did look threatening in the early hours. We were hoping for a pretty warm day, but that is how things usually turn out. We made a success Of it only because you were interested and goad enough to come on out in the cold and have a good time with us. We appreciate it very much and want all of you to know it.

It was an honor having Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris in our midst as well as other distinguished of.. ficers and directors of the Supreme Lodge.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the barbecued chicken plate served at 3 p.m.

Our auction began about 6 p.m. We would like to thank everyone who participated and bought items at the auction. Y ou were very generous indeed.

Also, we send out a very special thanks to all our members and friends who helped, worked, prepared food and brought items to be auctioned off on the day of our opening. There was a lot of work put into it and I know it wasn't easy for the men preparing the barbecue in the cold wind. Without all these fine people it could not have been done. Thank you again!

Everyone enjoyed dancing to his good music, as always.

It was good to see Mrs. Ben Zalocik up and around again after a two-week bout with the flu. Also sorry to hear that Evelyn Schiller has been sick.

LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS CHORAL GROUP Dear Members, We had a pretty good turnout at our choral practice on February 19. We missed a lot of our old faithfuls. It was another one of those nights that a half dozen things were going on.

You have probably heard by now, we will be singing for the pleasure of the guests at the 61st anniversary of our Lodge No. 84. The date will be March 14. The March meeting will be held March (I at 7:30 pan. There will be a covered dish supper so all members ,are to bring something to eat. The supper will be at 6 p.m.

Please, girls, be thinking about it. We probably will have two queens. Also, if you need more information about it, you may call Mrs. Alvin Kabala at 352-3132, and she will tell you more about it. She will be in charge of the May Fete. If we can get two girls then we will have a May queen and a SPJST queen, or if we can get three, we may even have three queens. Just come to the March 6 meeting and we will see.

The door prizes were won by Brother Albert Kasparek and Sister Frances Tallas. After the meeting, Antoinette Pokorny read a Valentine poem she had written. Then the youth club, donated a wall clock that looks like a golden frying pan; it's pretty. They also donated a large cake that had a beautiful red star on it with SPJST. It was just like the SPJST emblem. It was beautiful. Thank you, Mrs. Amelia Pokorny, youth leader, and the youth club. The cake was delicious, and beautiful.

LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Members and Readers, The youth club Valentine party on February 12 was a great success. The members seemed to enjoy the games, Valentines, and refreshments. The adults also enjoyed themselves playing cards and dominoes.

At Friday night's social we had about sixty members present. The teens worked on the District III scrapbook and the juniors are making table decorations. After the youth members finish their projects, everyone enjoyed snacks. Why don't you come out and join us on our Friday night socials?

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved after a small correction.

Thank you notes were read from the William Kimball family, Mrs. Daniel Beralek and the Supreme Lodge officers who couldn't make our anniversary celebration.

Next, Brother John Mach gave the treasury report, Kitchen Chairman Helen Dulock, Refreshment Chairman Johnny Stuckly, and Entertainment Chairman Gene Pavelka all gave good reports. Each thanked all who helped.

Brother Gene Pavelka also stated that since we started letting ladies in with pant-suits our crowds have more than doubled. The building chairman had no report to make. Brother Marvin Camp gave the trustees' report, saying that we had changed gas company because we could get a better rate. Also,

Sister Rosemarie Banik and her assistant, Sister Rosie Wood, and our youth club put on a wonderful show for us. They showed us what we working members looked like as we do our jobs. I must say they Were just great.

Brother Nick Morris then gave a report on our lodge from its beginning until now. To those of us who didn't know about the beginning, it was very interesting.

After the program, Brother Nick Morris' and Brother Edward Marek's talks, the youth club had a cake walk.

Later, we had a wonderful turkey and dressing supper. After that a band played music for those who wished to dance. This ended a great day in this member's life, and I'm sure in the lives of other members who were there.

Sorry Brother and Sister Rudy Sef Mk and sons couldn't get there earlier, but we were glad that they could arrive later. Do come again, anytime.

LODGE NO. 14, WESLEY Dear Readers, We had our meeting Sunday, February 14 at the home of Brother and Sister Steve Kamas. We want to thank them for having the meeting in their home. We had a good turnout at the meeting. We also had Brother and Sister Jakubik from Snook, and Sister Lola Vavra from Bryan with us. We were glad that they could be with us.

Brother Jakubik got a new organizer for our lodge, Brother Leroy Kamas.

Sister Vavra is trying to organize a youth club here for the Wesley lodge.

Each one present had a chance to guess and Mrs. Jakubik guessed the right number. Thanks a lot, Mrs. Vavra.

After the meeting we had a social, which was enjoyed by all present.

Our next meeting will be held on the first Sunday in April at 2 p.m., at the home or Brother and Sister Ed Vavra. This past Friday at the home of Brother and Sister Kamas, our State Youth Director James Janousek and our District Youth Director Mrs. Lola Vavra were discussing how to get a youth club started. Mrs. Vavra's daughter entertained the youngsters present. They also made some paper flowers, which were very pretty. Thanks a lot. The youth club is planning to have a meeting on March 14.

Brother Silas Smith reported the board of trustees had net on Tuesday night, February 2, and their next meeting will be on Tuesday night, March 2. He asked Sister Engelke to read the minutes of the board meeting.

Health Committee: Brother James Pavlicek has had surgery at the GrantBuie Hospital in Hillsboro. He has been Very ill but is on the road to recovery and we all wish hint a speedy one.

Brother Leslie Dungan, has been Very ill and is in Providence Hospital.

He is improving and we wish him the very best and hope he will be home soon.

Brother Joe Jaska has been ill. We hope he is better.

Michael Galler gave the youth club report. The club toured the museum at Baylor to see the moon rock on display.

They collected $110 from their cake walk, held in January. The club gave. $15 to the cancer fund, in memory of Mary Sue Moore.

At the March meeting the club will have Police Lt. January speak and show a film on drugs. Youth clubs from the local lodges will be invited to attend. This will be very educational for the parents and adults to attend for we all need to learn more about drugs.

The youth are going to make posters on drugs and they will be judged by Lt. January.

Brother Herman Drews donated a United States flag to the youth club.

President Henry Slovak read a resolution for Sister Marie Losak, who passed on, on January 19, 1971, at the age of 82. She had been a member of Lodge 66 for over 58 years. Everyone stood in silent prayer for our departed sister.

Brother Otto Hanus said this is the year for the Czech Spectacular. It was suggested we change the name to Czech-American Festival. There will be a special meeting on Friday night, March 19, at -7 p.m. at Linden Hall to decide if we wish to have the festival, what could be had, and what booths or entertainment to have, so everyone interested, please attend this meeting and give your opinion. It's going to take a lot of planning and hard work, so be prepared to do your share and give your time to make it successful, if it is passed to have it this year.

There will be no family night social on Friday night, March 12, because RVOS Lodge 109 will hold their meeting on this night. The next social will be on Friday night, March 26.

Brother John Kutni reminded everyone that the District III meeting will be Sunday, April 18.

DALLAS Dear Members, Members attending the meeting last Sunday saw the new officers conduct their first meeting; they also observed Brother Ben Jarma initiate the 1970 members into the lodge. Several new aces were present — which is encouraging, In one part of the hall, our junior youth were busy decorating the proms for our 61st anniversary, taking place March 14. The theme "Happiness Is . . ." should be interesting, to say the least. What is your favorite happiness?

The leaders had such beautiful control over the group that it was ly necessary for President Adolph to bring out the loud speaker. Remember our Social Nights every Thursday night at Lodge 88 — ladies, you won't have to cook, so if your husband doesn't ask you out next week, ask him. Give yourself a break from the stove and sink. In fact, if you watch the calendar of events of what takes place around the lodge, you may be able to have two or three meals away from home at the most nominal price in town. A delicious barbecue dinner will be served on March 21 at Lodge 88, and we need the support of all members. A lot of thought and labor go into these functions and you members are the only ones who can make them a success.

Brother Emmett Parr who recently had surgery is back home and doing well — we wish you continued good health, Emmett, but this officer knows what a tremendous worker you would

be, and I do hope you'll consider giving us more of your time. This remark was precipitated only by the fact that this member and I have been friends for years, and I can get by saying this to him under the guise of person-toperson democracy. Most of us talk about democracy and more particularly about person-to-person democracy, but few could give a satisfactory definition of it.

While my definition might not agree with yours, perhaps we can do no better than to accept the definition of Russell W. Davenport in his book "The Dignity of Man." "Democracy is a method of accounting for everyone, through the little work of many hands, the little lives of many hearts, the little lights of many minds. It accounts for everyone through the little applications of universal principles — in the home, in the back yard, in the office, in the factory, in the little world in which each of us can act. This is the challenge. The country that accepts it will change the history of the world."

Readers, Isn't it a wonderful experience to pick up a copy of our Vestnik and be able to read about these marvelous young people of ours who are making the headlines in a proud and peaceful manner? I personally am grateful that we have an organ like our Vestnik so that these youngsters may be brought into the limelight as they most definitely should be and lucky we are, too, that we have an editor such as Brother Sefcik who sees the importance of making the accomplishments of our youth public information.

A brief article with a photograph recently appeared in one of our local newspapers and the article dealt with the future of another one of our younger members. Unfortunately, I do not have all the vital information but I do want to mention a little hit about the young man I have reference to.

The young man I speak of is the son of Brother and Sister Ben and Lithe Jarma and he is Don Jarma. All are members of Lodge 84, Dallas where Don's father Ben once served as lodge president.

Don Jarma is presently a senior at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas where he has had a most successful football history. Don played the posi-

tion of quarterback for his team and he brought his team to a successful finish in this most recent football season.

So great and outstanding was this young man's ability that he became a sought — after recruit for college football. The article and picture I mentioned earlier showed Don Jarma signing a letter of intent to play his college football for Southern Methodist University in Dallas under Coach Hayden Fry. I feel as if this news about Don deserves recognition because I feel cer-. tain that there are many people who remember this handsome young man when he was just a "little guy" with a "crew-cut".

My husband and I wish Don a great deal of success in his college football and we are sure there 'are others who feel the same. We personally are glad to know that Don chose to attend a local university upon his high-school graduation. Perhaps we will have a chance to see this young man in "action" when the football season begins this Fall at SMU.

LODGE NO. 135, ENNIS Dear Readers, Our monthly meeting was held an Feb. 14. It was held in the meeting room of the new Sokol Hall. Vice-President Tom Valek presided over the meeting due to President Eric Mouka's. excused absence. All officers were present and a fair crowd of members attended the meeting. The youth members out-numbered the adults again.

Discussion was held concerning our interest in the grand opening of the new Sokol Hall. It was motioned, seconded and unanimously carried to donate a check and help pay for the flowers and plague vases for the dining area. This was purchased together with RVOS Lodge 135 and WBFA Lodge 402.

Our youth leader gave her report on the aluminum drive. She asked for volunteers to deliver the aluminum to the distributor. She reported the contribution to the local heart fund; sending a telegram to the dedication of the Supreme Lodge; discussed their latest project — woodwork.

Thanks again. For drinks, they had coffee, sodawater and beer. I didn't get to be there for dinner, but I did for lunch and Sister Bertha Malina, fixed me a nice plate, since I didn't get to be there. • It was nice; they drew names of those who were present, and Bro. V. H. Barina won the lucky number, so he passed the Valentine candy around; sure was good.

Sister Annie Hribek said the prayer before the meal, and then they all ate. Bro. V. H. Farina thanked them for all that work they had done.

The meeting convened at 2 p. m., and the pled ge to the Flag was said by Sister Bernice Staile of Austin. Bro. Jerry Stepan read the minutes which were approved as read.

On our sick list, we had Bro. Jos. Kadlecek and Bro. Richard Miller. I hope they get better soon.

Bro. August Psencik had passed away en Friday, January 29th, and was buried on Sunday at 4 p. m., from Smithville Catholic Church with Rev. Clyde Holtman officiating, and interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

His survivors are: wife Annie; three daughters Lucille Patillo of Nixon,

VESTNnt Georgia Forrester of Santa Rosa and Mildred Meredith of Austin; 2 sons, Jerome of Houston and Ivan of Victoria; four brothers, Charlie of Angleton, Robert of Fort Worth, Emil of Flatonia, and Victor of Smithville and four sisters, Sophia Hanzelka, of Smithville, Hermina Tupa of Moulton, Julie Freytag of La Grange and Della Zimmerhanzel of Smithville. My sympathy to the family.

In Flatonia, Mrs. Edd (Julie) Zuzalik passed away due to a heart attack. She :iaised away on Saturday evening', and was not buried until Thursday, at 9 a.m., frcm the Flatonia Catholic Church, and burial was in the Flatonia Catholic Cemetery. Survivors are: husband, Edd; two sons, I think one son of Lubbock, and the other in our Armed Services in Korea. That is Why the funeral was delayed; until he could arrive for his mother's funeral. She also leaves 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Miculha of Flatonia, and Mrs. Mary Mahacek of Cistern and one brother, Charlie Zurovec of San Antonio. Our sympathy to the family.

We have 2 sisters on the sick list.

Sister Vlasta Hofferek is very ill, and Sister Julie Hofferek in Smithville Hospital. I hope they get better and are able to go home soon.

Well, in my son's family they have a baby girl. She will answer to the name of Rebecca. We all are proud of her.

I also have a sick sister-in-law, Anna Mensik, in Downer's Grove, Illinois.

I wish she wouldn't live so far; I sure would like to go see her. She was in the hospital 6 weeks not tdo long ago, and doctors said that they could not do any more for her, so her daughters are taking care of her at home. They were planning to move to Texas in the summer; so I hope they still will make it.

Their plans are to move to Brownsville.

The sky is cloudy; it looks like it wants to rain. I hope it does for it's really dry.

I am late with the news about our officers; all the same officers were reelected for 1971. Let's give them our full support!

It just had to happen, with so many people involved. To those concerned, please accept our apologies.

Although acknowledgment was made of the donation during the unveiling of the Lidice Symbol, we want to hereby acknowledge that Messrs. Elbert Aldrich and A. 3. Junek, realtors of Temple, donated the cost of having the Lidice Symbol sculpted for the SPJST, and we appreciate their kind gesture.

Wednesday, March 1, 1 Mr. Forrest Gist of Belton was the sculptor.

In a letter to Sokol Ennis, we acknowledged their congratulatory message AND flowers, but somehow inadvertently left out the flower acknowledgement in our Vestnik report. This oversight is hereby corrected.

We wish to acknowledge the participation, in our ceremonies of the. Hon. Jamie H. Clements, mayor of Temple, who brought us a brief and inspiring message.

Our thanks to Calvin C. Chervenka of Temple Junior College for taping the entire proceedings for posterity and for our permanent files.

In the latter part of my report, them occurred a typographical error that read.: We are thankful we ENJOYED a good press throughout the state. It should have read E [VJOY, present tense, which is the way it was submitted, and which carries a different connotation.

Dear Members: We are pleased to report that Editor Sefcik has new office accommodations available to him. His office is now housed in the space previously occupied by Hundley's Newstand, which adjoins offices Of the Cechoslovak Pub. Co., which, in turn, adjoin the printshop facilities of the Cechoslovak Pub. Co. Editor Sefcik now has adequate facilities for guests a-nd visitors, including- a telephone extension.

These new facilities mark a milestone because although space has always been provided, it did not compare with the present space arrangements.

The Supreme Lodge is renting the new space from the Cechoslovak Pub. Co. on a contract basis.

The Supreme Lodge has been in favor of these new quarters for our editor, with the support and cooperation of the Publication Committee.

Special committees from the PC and Supreme Lodge made on-site inspection trips to West seeking these new quarters. We feel this step was commensurate with the position and with the overall general progress of our Society.

6. Begin the meeting or function with one of the most appealing parts to encourage promptness.

7. Make a list of the group's problems and rank them in the order of importance. Begin solving them one at a time according to your need.

A letter from the Supreme Lodge was read thanking the youth club for the telegram sent, to the officers at their grand dedication.

The turnout on the wood project and contest was real good. We were proud of all the original ideas and your interest. Amy Laznovsky won the prize for the best project which was a napkin holder and attachments on both sides for toothpicks and matches. A clever idea but also most useful.

We were glad to :see Amy up and around after her surgery.

Diane Zhanel won the prize for the best decorated Valentine.

The door prizes went to Jimmy 1Vrikel, Larry Valek and Claudia Moucka..

Following the meeting the youth had a Valentine party. A special thank you goes to Sister Adell Valek and Sister Mildred Bouska for providing the refreshments.

Dear Members and Friends, We l l, we got some rain here in our part of the country. It was nice. Hope everyone else got rain.

On February 14, our adult meeting 'was held at 2 p.m. The youth had a Valentine social with a program for the members. A cake was donated to the members and a clock for the new kitchen after the social, the youth club held their meeting.

We discussed old and new business.

The most decorated Valentine was won by Ronnie Riegor and second by Linn Walker. The others also rece a prize. On February 20, the club will have a. dance at tlru., 11 etarting at 8 :p.m. Every youth , member will b} p. friends. Chips and dip will ba served. On March 6, our adult meeting will be held. We will elect our May Fete queen. We will start hvith a covered dish supper at 6, and a meeting at 7:30.

Let's not forget our special meeting on March 6, at 6 pin.

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Readers, The youth of Lodge No. 4, HaHefts'ville, held their monthly meeting on iSunday, February 14, The meeting was called to order by President Marcie Holy. The secretary, Vernell Zak, tread the roll call and the minutes of the previous meeting. The treasurer then gave his report.

Under oldbusiness, a discussion was held on the musical, "Muziky, Muziky."

Under new business a letter was read from the District VI Youth Director, Mrs. Brdecka. There was also some discussion on some books to be bought for the club. A discussion was also held about our spring meeting and the District VI YAD. It was also deeucted to pby liasebal after next month's meeting.

After our meeting, the youth entertained the mother lodge With a Valentine's Day program, which was enjoyed by all. The prizes were given to: children — Vernell Zak; adult — Mrs. Linda IVIikush; February cake — Mr. Charles :Galata, and Valentine heart — Mr. Charles Spanhel.

Our next meeting' will be on Sunday, March 14.

NO. 29, TAYLOR Dear Friends, Our meeting was held February 14.

It turned out very nicely. There was a fairly large attendance. We donated a clock to our mother lodge for our newly remodeled kitchen, and we also gave a large cake that we had made.

At our youth club meeting, we discussed our old and new business. We gave the prize to the best Valentine, which was made by Ronnie Rieger.

We will have a social on the 26th of February, which will be a dance. Everyone bring friends. The refreshments will be served. All the girls who are 16, and SPJST members and would like to run for the SPJST May Fete Queen `will have to come to the lodge on March 6 when we will have the election. It will begin with a covered dish supper at 6 p.m. and an adult meeting will follow at 7:30. We will have a special meeting for the youth on March 9.

'Everyone is satisfied with the weather we are having down in Pflugerville; we finally had some rain after a long dry spell. We are looking forward to LODGE

Zdrubek, No. 112, of Guy, Texas, in behalf of our entire membership, wish. to extend our most sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed sister, MRS. FRANCES M. MAREK, who passed away Friday, January 29, 1971 at the age of 69 years.

Sister Marek was born in Plum, Texas, on November 20, 1901, the daughter of Andrew and Theresa Hluza.

She had been a resident of Guy, Texas for many years. Her husband, August, preceded her in death by many years.

Survivors are: two daughters _ Imogene Miller and Mrs. Gracilee Sebesta of Guy; one son, Melvin Merck of Houston; two sisters — Mrs. Stef['i, Coty of Houston and Mrs. Mary Burt of Alvin; and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. in. on Saturday, January 39, 1971, from the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville with_ the Rev. Richard livery officiating.

Interment was in the Guy Public Cemetery.

Mr. Jakubec, age 59, of the Doubleheader Community, Route 4, Temple, died early Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1971, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Jakubec was born in the Doubleheader Community. He attended Seaton School and Temple High School.

He served in the U. S. Navy fur three and half years during World Wall II. He was married to 'qrs. Annie Divis of Temple in 1951. He owned and opelaled es6w Trailer Sales in Temple For several years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, SPJST No. 47, HIT, Dkabled American Veterans, the American Legion and Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Church; the Rev. Joseph Smith officiating.

Burial was at Bellwood Memorial Park.

Surviving' are his wife; two daughters, Miss Annie Marie Jakubec and Mrs. Joyce Grygar of Seaton; three sons, Walter Jakubec of Temple, Johnnie Frank Jakubec of Alexia. and Eugene Divis of Houston; two 'brothers, Frank and John Jakubee of Temple: four sisters, Mrs. Louise Kadlecek of Housten, Miss Mary Jakubec and Mrs. Della Talasek of Temple, and Mrs. Millie Nalvar of `Holland and six grendehildren.
