Your editor sits down to write with 'an endeavor to connect his thoughts with those of one week ago and his promise of "more next week" Yes, the dedication is now history. Our new 'Supreme Lodge Headquarters Building is built and is beautiful and, as your editor wrote last week in Czech, each individual has to see it in person to evaluate it and form their own demo

In this issue, we are printing some photos which we were fortunate enough to take in that packed audience. In last week's issue, we men'cioneC. two reports rather sketchily in English, however, dwelled on them more fully in the Czech section. The report of OH' seven directors shows an income from. our old SL building to be $33,312.05 and expenses in the amount Of $32,441.20 so we see that the old building is holding its own. Postage was $4,565.74 which shows that our Society is doing a. very large and increased amount of business.

The other was from Brother Ben Zabcik and we covered it last week; please abide by it. However, he also sent us a very informative condensed ;report from which our membershi 3 can gain valuable information. Hen are some figures Which show a good picture of our present-day SPJST Society: Premium collections rose to . a new high of $1,074,545.87, an increase of $.84,965.52 over 1959. The financial statement reveals a new high also, a gain of $699,828.25. There were 28,000 premium refund checks amounting to $191,965.32, and the smallest was for $4.28. The Vestnik subscription list gained 1,424 new names in 1970 and as of December 30, 1970, 11,679 copies of the Vestnik were being mailed out each week, which shows growth and interest and continued activiy.

You may also wish to scan over January's monthly report from the Supreme Lodge on pages 16 and 17 of this issue which TA: are encouraged to do each month.

Now to all members who have written letters to your editor: First of all, 'thank you for them; all of you. Please have patience and they will he answered from this office as soon as possible. In the two years since becoming your editor, the mail has grown weekly, for which we are grateful, however, time for replies is so limited and we will do our bed. We regret that we did not get to visit with each person we saw Sunday, the time was just too short.

.VESTNtK Brother Adolph F. Pustejovsky, age 64, died January 30, 1971 in Whitney Hospital, Whitney, Texas. He was buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Tours, Texas, and was a member of Lodge Jaroinir No. 54, West.

Brother Emil Chalupa, age 85, passed away January 16, 1971 in Fayetteville, Texas. He was placed to eternal rest in Fayetteville, Texas, and was a meinber of Lodge Fbkrok Texasu No. 1, Fayetteville.

Richard Sykora of McAllen, Texas spent the weekend of January 17 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sykora of Dallas, Texas, and also attended a business meeting in Dallas on Monday.

Sister Anna Hering, age 77, succumbed January 26, 1971 in Temple, Texas.

Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery, Rosebud, Texas, and she was a -member of Lodge Ruzovy Dvur No. 89, Rosebud. e 4 Brother Fred Bartek, age 67, passed away December 2, 1970 in. Chattahooche, Florida. and he was a member of Lodge, Gesky Prapor No. 24, Cyclone. • Sister Marie Losak, age 82, succumbed January 19, 1971 in Waco, Texas. Brother Charles V. Palacheck, age 62, died January 3, 1971 in Fori: Worth, Texas. Burial was in the Mt. Clivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas, and he was a member of Lodge Svaz Cechoslovanu No. 92, Fort Worth.

Sister Anna Housek, age 91, succumbed in Moulton. Texas. Interment was in the SRI- ST Cemetery, Shiner, Texas, and she was a member of Lodge Texasky Mir No. 10, Shiner.

LETTERS LODGE NO. 35 - ELK At our regular February . meeting, Lodge No. S5 Rove Kvety, will celebrate its 70th anniversary. This will be on Sunday, February 14, at 2:30 p.m., with the program to follow.

The lodge will furnish the turkey and dressing. The ladies of the lodge are asked to bring a covered dish of one or more of the following: sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, lettuce and tomato salad, cabbage slaw, desserts.

LODGE NO. 88 — HOUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters, February is here and, perhaps to many of us, of no special significance, but to the young it is the joyful exchange of little affectionate paper hearts, with the ever magic message, "won't you he my Valentine?" Doesn't it instill, a little wonderful magic in most of us to just for a moment recall some of our younger days, when we too were excited to hear our favorite puppy love say "won't you be my Valentine?"

Coming events: Saturday, February 13 — dance at Lodge 88 with music by Herbert Kloesel's Knights of Dixie, from Schulenburg. You will enjoy dancing to their music. Sunday, February 14, the big 6th anniversary celebration of our new Lodge 88 building and facilities at W. 15th and Beall. A good braised-beef dinner will be served from 11 a.m. on and I am sure the good sisters will again come up with some good pastries for dessert. Did you hear, ladies? There will also be several booths and/or other sources of entertainment, and finally the big battle dance from 2 to 9 p.m. Lee Roy Matecha from Fayetteville and Clarence Baca of Houston are going to do battle, and they had better practice up on "Cotton-eyed Joe" or we'll battle them.

You all conic for a day of fun and dancing for $1.50. Saturday, February 20, the annual Go Texan Western Dance at the Chandelier Ballroom will feature the famous Adolph Hofner and his Pearl Wranglers from San Antonio.

Saturday, February 2'7, the big Vrazel dance at 88 -- ,everyhc;dy always comes to dance to their good music, SO you all might as well attend also. Sunday, February 28, the play "Muziky, Muziky," will be repeated here at Lodge 88. This is the play that drew overl,200 people in El Campo and certainly will be a treat to those who did not get to see it, or even those who wish to see it again. The play starts promptly at 1:30 p.m., so those from out of town may reach home before dark, and tickets will be sold in advance by the youth and adult groups. Peg. price $1, and you may also purchase tickets at the door.

NEWS _ Mr. Frank Elmer of Mahn, Oregon, the brother of Stanley and Joe Elzner of 88 visited here recently, after a 25 year absence; there was mutual rejoicing and handshaking among his relatives and friends. They were all very glad to see each other after such a long time.

Bonnie Cox, who ding the University of Texas, visited here and also the dedication at Temple; Bonnie was elected treasurer of her sorority.

Our sympathy goes to the family of Brother Edward W. Landa, who died of a heart attack on January 28; Brother Landa was member of Lodge No. 88, c ' ;. of -Lodge No. 88 held on January 25. Comments: The Gilbert Kautz dance, at 88 was very well attended and enjoyed by 1-aany music and dance lovers. Compliments came from all over the floor. A sizable group from Foley's Department Store- had themselves a ball; please att:•id a! y,ain. Dedication • of our new headqu„irters building at 'T'emple was a huge success and well attended from Lodge No. 88. While some members went by private transportation, at least 41 of us, including cur president, Sister Tillie Helmcamp, went by chartered bus. Everything was planned for the comfort of all. We had plenty of coffee, cold drinks, various snacks, including plenty of doughnuts.

We even had snake-bite survival kits, but mostly in case some one would ;faint; we did not tell everyone about this because we did not want them all to faint at the same time. One member even thought about the golden anti-heat proStratien fluid and that saved the day and the cute -little 2x3 room that was on this particular bus saved a lot of time. The driver did not have to make so many stops, so we made the trip to Temple in record time. Once we heard rumors that there was a character with a weapon on board and that he planned to high jack the bus and take us to Las Vegas, but I guess our hospitality and refresh( hanged his mind and he stayed no all the way. We arrived at TC pie ahead of schedule, so we sneaked a preview of the new building, - and is it nice. And so elaborately furnished! Now if the Supreme Lodge officers and employees can match their service to conform to the nice new building, the SPJST cannot but go forward.

There was a regular jam at the ribbon-cutting, and not nearly all the people could get into the lobby for the dedication ceremonies. However, the ceremony was well planned. Many dignitaries from city, state and other states were present, too many to name. some made speeches or else took part in the ceremony program, while many others were just recognized. I am sure that the Supreme Lodge will have their publicity department render a detailed report on this memorial occasion.

After the ceremonies we proceeded to Seaton Hall where the celebration was continued. We found the hall filled almost to capacity, but they had plenty of good food and we finally managed for table aecommodations. Sid Pokladnik and his orchestra played some Wonderful music. His band was later relieved by the Eric Honza band and most of us got into the swing of it and danced until 6 p.m., and then, as per earlier agreement, we started for Houston, with more fun, singing and joshing. Our driver was Norman Thornton, who was complimented in more ways than one, for his safe and courteous driving; he is an asset to the bus company. He, Of course, complimented the passengers, also.

Our monthly social will be Friday, February 19, at 7 p.m. We will have as our special guest, Mr. P. D. Johnson from the Temple Police Department. He will . be showing us an interesting film on drugs, something that all of us need to know more about. We believe everyone will enjoy seeing this film and asking questions concerning drugs. Afterwards, some of us may want to play cards or dominoes, so be sure and don't miss this social.

We sincerely hope that brother Joe Pechal, Sr., who has been a patient at Kings Daughters Hospital and Shirley Kelarek, who hasen't been feeling well lately are feeling much better by now. We wish for them both a very speedy and complete recovery and want them to know that all of us are thinking about them.

There is a wonderful weekend of entertainment lined up for you. on Saturday night, February 13, Marvin and the Casuals will be playing and on Sunday, February 14, the, Vrazel Polka Band. Don't miss this weekend of enjoyment at Flag Hall.

NEWLY ELECTED HILLJE LODGE NO. 40 OFFICERS report that construction is due to start about February 15 on a new 80 by 100 foot community center replacing the 42-year-old building Which burned in August. Eleven bids were opened January 28 with Pegue-Yates Construction Co. of Houston submitting the low bid of $72,992 according to Paul Sablatura, building chairman. The old building was insured for $36,000. The new brick building will be completely air-conditioned and heated with a large ballroom area, stage, kitchen and concession stand. NO. 82, FORT WORTH Dear Members, Our regular monthly meeting will be held Sunday, February 14, at 2 p.m. in our National Hall. Do come, all of you, and on time. After the meeting as usual, we will have a lunch and we ask our good sisters to please bring some pastry. Our hostesses provide the remainder of it. Our hostess for many years, Sister Albina Bunker, resigned from this position and Sister Annie Langer was appointed in her place.

Sisters Inez Krivanek and Vickie Murphy will be Sister Langer's helpers.

Our vice president, Sister Helen Kubala, asked to be relieved of her office and Brother Al Kercho was elected in her place. Several new members were accepted and before the meeting was closed, Brother Carl Zich installed the new officers.

Sister Albino. Bunker announced several members who were on the sick list. They included: Brother Joe Bartek who spent some time in St. Joseph Hos pital, but was present at the meeting. He is still under the care of a doctor. Sister Vlasta Dolkos fell at her home just 'before Christmas and broke her right arm, just above her elbow. She spent some time in the hospital and then in the Medicenter and LODGE

is at her home now, with her arm still in the cast. We truly sympathize with Sister Dolkos and we wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

We were planning on going to TemPie for the opening of the Supreme Lodge office 'building. We were to have had a special bus, but there weren't enough of us to fill the bus, so we just had to give it up. I don't know if anyone from our lodge, went. Hope the celebration was a 'great success.

We received a letter from Mrs. Mary Malish from Rowena, our friend of many years, stating that her brother, Joseph Marecek, passed away on January 25 and was laid to rest on January 2'7, after the services in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was 72 years old and was a member of the SPJST lodge at Rowena. He is survived by his wife; one son; several grandchildren and three sisters and two brothers. We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and may our departed brother rest in peace.

I have known the Marecek family 'for many years. We came to America from Europe (the Russian Ukraine) on August 6, 1906, from where our ancestors imigrated !from Czechoslovakia and we came to this country on the same ship with our parents and brothers and sisters, to Galveston. From there we all went to Rowena and after one year of disappointment, our family moved to Fort Worth and the Mareceks stayed at Rowena, where Mr. Marecek, Joseph's father, died two years later from a heart attack leaving Mrs. Marecek with six young children. Mrs. Marecek raised them all to be good citizens of this country. All are married and have large families. Joseph was postmaster in Rowena for several years, and also served as route delivery man until his retirement seven years ago. anis year marks the 100th anniversary of my grandfather's immigration Tram Czechoslovakia to Russia. My father was about 8 years old then, and it is 65 years since my father came to this country with his family.

There are four of us left here in Fort Worth, who came from the Ukraine — my brother, John Becan, Anton 'hick, sister Josephine Miller, and myself.

After we saw the headquarters building where we had a wonderful time, we left for Seaton Star Hall and there we enjoyed their good food and music.

Lodge No. 47 Seaton, you have a beautiful SPJST Lodge Hall; it really has changed since my late husband and I danced there together 50 years ago. My husband would be so proud of the headquarters building and the Seaton hall, for he was born there in Bell County, and he was president of Lodge No. 154. Many of you remember Walter Hejl. I was very happy to see my brother-in-law, Jerry Hejl, and his wife Binny, and all her sisters and their husbands, and our good friends Mr. and Mrs. Torn MikeSka and their daughter Georgie. Friendships old or new mean so much that it makes tears come to your eyes when you know that old friends have not forgotten you.

Dear Members, In our meeting in January we had a large attendance. The meeting was called to order by our new president, Mrs. Mary Bylsma, and went on smoothly. The minutes 'were read by our secretary, Mrs. Myrtle Guerin, and approved as read. Thank-you cards were read from both S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes for our Christmas donations.

The ladies paid their dues and our treasurer, Mrs. Donna Hubenak, asked if any of us remembered that it was our 10th anniversary, since we started the Ladies Circle and asked the ladies who were charter members to rise so We could see how many of us are still living. Mrs. Hubenak also mentioned. several members who have left us and now sleep in peace.

It was suggested that we accept the men who always come to the meeting. with their wives as associate members 'with monthly dues. All agreed and several paid the dues immediately.

We sang "Happy Birthday" to Anna 'Tulis, Anna Langer, Eva Dockney, and Mary Hubenak. Door prize was won

by Bessie Prochaska,. Sisters Mary Bylsma, Millie Wruble, Billie Spindor, Vickie Murphy and Anna. Paprskar, served all a very delicious lunch. After lunch we all enjoyed playing our favorite game.

Our regular quarterly meeting wag held on January 18 and the minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's reports were accepted. A brief report was made on the lodge's Christmas party mentioned above. Mrs. S. H. (Mollie) Ewell thanked everyone for helping out and was sorry she was not able to attend because of her illness, however, she thanked Randy Reets for taking charge and Miss Jean Kubiak and the youth for the program they represented during the Christmas sea,son.

We wish to thank The Abbey for playing, our youth leader, Mrs. Gaye Lamberth, DYD Maxine Pavliska, and Polly Bayer, William Pavliska, Anton Svoboda and Bob Bayer for working at the dance, all the people who made cash donations, all those who sold tickets, as well as those who came to the dance. Without each of you this could not have been the success it was.

Several of the club officers — Ray Lamberth, president; Danny Johnson, reporter; Susan. Pavliska, parliamentarian: John Bayer and Wendy Bayer, -- along with their leader, Maxine Pavliska and Polly Bayer, delivered the donation to Jerry Lee at his home. We were all delighted to see Jerry Lee progressing so well.

The youth club from Lodge No. 107, along with a few brave adults, took a ride on the Southern Pacific Passenger train Sunday, January 24. We arrived at the depot in San Antonio at 7:20 a.m. ready to board the 7:38 am. train.

Would you believe the train arrived at 8:15? We had a nice wait but it was worth it. We had a guided tour of the

Wednesday, February 10, 1971 dining car and the passenger car and the car which is like a lounge; it is full of vending machines and tables so you can eat in there ii you don't want to go to the dining car. This tout was provided by Mr. J. Y. Hobson, road foreman of eng. S. P. Co. We want to thank him very much. We also met Mr. W. P. Stairs, brakeman, who told us about his work on the train, which was very interesting.

We arrived in Seguin about 30 minutes later. Our parent-driven cars were waiting for us there. We want to . thank Mrs. Phyllis Porches, Win. Pavliska, Jr., Mr. Richard Baumann and Mr. Bob Bayer for getting there before the train. We then boarded the cars and continued on our way to Natural Bridge Caverns. We toured the caverns, which everyone enjoyed. The guide was very nice and he gave us a few ideas that might make rememberin&,'P cave formations easier. I thought they were real neat so I'll pass them along. The formation on the ground reaching for the ceiling might reach it. It is called a stalagmite. The one holding onto the ceiling very tight is called a stalactite.

After the tour we ate a picnic lunch and got the daddies home in time to watch the football game on TV. We all had a very nice trip and everyone made it home safely.

Dear Members and Readers, Our regular youth club meeting was held January 10 at 2:30 p.m. It was well attended. Some items under discussion were our skating party. Mrs. Wood and I are getting something lined up that won't be of too much expense for our club and yet go skating.

We are going to have a craft instructor come out to our March meeting.

He or she will give a lesson or two in craft during the adult meeting, so be sure you youth clobbers come out 100 percent in March.

Another item discussed was a cake walk at our February meeting; see Mrs. Wood's letter for 'bore details.

Valentine's Day will be on our lodge meeting day, so for all you sweetheal ts who want to give your sweetheart a Valentine we will have a Valentine box to put your Valentines in.

The ceremony was very touching. The building is fabulous; you really have to see it in order to appreciate it. Dear Readers, Well, looks as if 1971 is off to a great start. We at Lodge 35 have a new floor throughout our dancing and seating area. It sure looks nice. It's always wonderful to get something new, because it is a sign of progress.

Speaking of new, I know that everyone who has seen our new Supreme Lodge home will agree that it is a magnificent looking building. It is something every member can be very proud of. And just think, it belongs to all SPJS1 members.

A group of us from Lodge No. 35 went to Temple for the dedication.

'They were Brothers and Sisters Albert Banik, Cynthia, Denise, Eddie Ray and Darrin; Vernon Wood, Jr., Mark and Vernon III; Rudy Zalman; Brother Bch Kimball, Brother Henry Breitkreutz, Brothers and Sisters Edwin Holub, George Holub, and Allen Wilde.

After the dedication, we proceeded to Lodge No. 47, Seaton Star Hall. I'd like to say that you folks have a spacious and beautiful hall, and I'm sure you are very proud of it. While there, 'we listened and danced to the lilting music and had an emoyable time. We also had the pleasure of having State Youth Director James Janousek and his lovely Wife Kathy, sit at our table and visit with us.

On the way to Waco, we listened to 'the broadcast from Seaton Star Hall, picturing in our minds the good time 'the folks were till having there.

Brother and Sister Rudy Zalman invited Brother and Sister Albert Banik and family and Brother and Sister Vernon Wood and sons to their home for a late supper. Then we sat and

reminisced about old times at Elk Lodge, and also about what a memorable day it had been. A day well spent.

The next lodge meeting will be on February 14, at 2:30 p.m. You youth clobbers, try to be there at 2 o'clock, so we can have a quick meeting before the mother lode:, ''as theirs.

I also want to remind you that each youth club family is asked to please 'bring a cake for our cake walk. If any of you other members of Lodge No. 35 would like to donate a cake for our cake walk, I know it will be appreciated..

All you youth club members make a special effort to be there to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of Lodge No. 35.

Dear Members and Friends, We are well on our way into the new year. I hope it will be a good year for all.

The youth and the parents, and, yes, the older people of Lodge No. 172 had several parties and dinners together last year and fun was had by all. We looked for the generation gap, but you know what? we couldn't find one.

We want to remind the youth to sell all your tickets that you have for the patio or car port; plans are being made to give this prize away soon.

Mr. Hrabal is going to donate $100 to our youth fund, so youth, let's work for -it.

We want to invite all our members out to our Valentine box supper at the Pasadena Memorial Park building on February 14, at 7 p.m. Would the ladies and the girls please fix up some pretty boxes with a dinner for two people in the box? Put your name on the bottom of the box.

We will auction the boxes off to the lucky men and boys.

LODGE NO. 29, TAYLOR. Dear. Members and Friends, The February meeting of Praha Lodge No. 29, Youth Club, Taylor, will be held on February 14.

The adult meeting will be held at 2 p.m. and youth meeting will be at 4 o'clock.

A Valentine social will be at 3:30.

A Valentine gift will be given to the lodge.

We will also have a Valentine contest on the best decorated Valentine. A prize will be given.

On Sunday, January 31, we not to Temple at 10:30, and went to our friends' home, Martha and Alfred Klusacek. We had dinner with them and it was very good. We left their home just before 1 p.m. and waited for a while; it w as too cold to get out 'of the car. We went to the dedication Of the new Supreme Lodge Headquarters building. The cutting of the ribbon was at 1 p.m. The refreshments were good; the souvenirs were something we all can use. We saw all of the building. It did take a little pushing before I got to the Youth Department display. We got to Seaton Star Hall and were lucky to find a table. We enjoyed the music.

Dear Readers, Congratulations to SPJST for the new home for the Supreme Lodge and' its officers and those whose hard work

has been richly rewarded. We are all very proud of you.

Several of our club members had the 'pleasure of seeing "Muziky, Muziky," in El Campo on January 24. It was a real pleasure to see so many of our senior citizens taking advantage of seeing this worthwhile production. We are grateful that we had the opportunity of taking part in this district project to sell tickets for this play and also to profit from it. It was a great success. Our sincere thanks to Mrs. Schwartzkopf for her hard work in planning the event.

Two youth club members have moved from our area. Teresa Janak moved to 'Shiner and Junior James moved to Hebbronville. We will miss both of these members and wish them much. luck in their new location.

Our members have worked with the March of Dimes, staging a cake sale.

As of this date, all the funds have not been collected and we hope to have a final total within the next day or so and then publicize the results.

Working with the March of Dimes has been one of our charities, and we have worked with this organization •for four years. We are thankful for those good idependable workers who are always on the job to see that it ,gets done. Thank you 'boys and girls for your interest.

The attendance at our meeting has not been the best due to bad weather or illness. We are looking forward to (.:ette.. days and a lot of spring.

There were many people from all over the State of Texas who came to witness this great event. Sid Pokladnik's orchestra from Dallas certainly did a fine job on their performance, and just added the 'patriotic spirit and and also pepped up everyone. It was a great job and we all did enjoy listening to those fine selections. Thanks to everyone participating in this fine orchestra.

There was a lot 01 work for a lot of people to make this opening such a huge success. I think everyone involved needs to he applauded. It was great to see so many come to help SPJST celebrate this great occasion.

We also will have games of several kinds and plan a cake auction. We ask each family which has children in the youth club to bring a cake and one additional prize for our games. Also, if there are those menibers who do not have children in the youth club who would like to help support the youth, you may lalso bring some sweets for the kitchen or a cake for the auction. We certainly will be grateful for your support.

Dear Members and Friends, Here at Lodge No. 160 we have been saddened by the death of Mr. Bob Broz. Mr. Broz had been president of the local lodge for many years, and at the time of his death was District IV Director. He was one of our most diligent lodge workers, being well liked by the youth and adults of our lodge.

He will be missed by many for a long time. I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy to his wife, daughter, Mrs. Diana Pelzel, and to Linda, Cheryl and Allan P,elzel, grandchildren, who are members of our youth club, and the other members of the family.

Hope all of the youth are making plans to attend our Valentine party February 14, at the Fire Hall, Wall, Texas. We will have a short meeting first, and then start the party. The time will be 2 to 5 p.m. Each member should bring guests, as many as possible the more the merrier! Also, bring your favorite records. We will have games, refreshments, music, and a lot of fun. Each youth is asked to bring a Valentine. Any kind you may have on hand, or one you can make.

We will have prizes for the game winners. I wish to extend a special invitation to our neighbor, Lodge No. 49 at Rowena, to attend our party. It would be a pleasure for the youth to come and share the fun with us.

Wednesday, February 10, 1971 Lodge Building. She was accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laddie Socha. On their way they stopped at Fort Hood and were joined by their son, Second Lt. Ronald Socha. Lt. Socha will leave later this month for assignment in Vietnam. He is a member of Lodge No. 160.

Dear Readers, Here it is time to write another letter to the Vestnik. First, I must say it sure was nice to see so many people at the dedication ojr our new SPJ'ST building in Temple, Sunday, January 31, 1971. Members and friends came from all parts of the state and as far away as Iowa. Afterward, we all gathered at the Star Hall for supper and the dance. I sure enjoyed it all.

Our last youth social was on. Friday, January 22. We sure had a good time.

Our mothers were teaching us to dance, but I think we need more practice, we \NHL try it again some times.

Valentine's Day is almost here and we will be having more parties at school and even at the hall. Our youth Valentine party will be held on February 12, at Flag Hall, about 5 p.m. I hope all of the youth can make it.

We will have games and later we'll have a snack.

Don't forget our next meeting, which will be Sunday, February 14, at 2 p.m.; please try to be there.

I would like to remind you to start making plans for our opening of the enlarged hall. It will be Sunday, February 21. I must close for now and finish my home work because it sure is getting tough.

February 7 is the monthly meeting and my grandfather's birthday (65). Happy birthday — Grandpa! Our meetings are on the first Sunday of every month, beginning at 3 p.m., sharp. February 14 we are having the lodge's birthday party (6th anniversary). Since it is on Valentine's Day, we are having a Valentine contest — make your own and bring it to be judged at 3 p.m. Prizes will be given for the most creative, the most beautiful, the largest, the smallest, and the most humorous. Put your ideas to work.

On February 26, we have a school holiday so the clubs are taking a tour of the new Farmers' Market at Town and Country. On March 7, we are going to the rodeo to see Glen Campbell.

The board of trustees buys the club tickets for those who work hard during the year for the lodge. Remember kids, it's our lodge too; so 'when you see paper to be picked up or the youth room needs cleaning, let's all help. It always pays good returns.

Come to Lodge 88 and join the "Bee Hive" of activity.

Dear Readers, Our January 17 meeting was held at 4 that afternoon. We planned a cake walk which was held during the intermission at the dance on the 23rd. It was very successful. A rummage sale is going to be held at our lodge during tne Easter holidays. We also plan to go skating sometime soon.

On the second Sunday in' January the youth club attended the March of Dimes Airlift. Everyone had a great time on the 16th of January, five of the club members went on the March of Dimes "sole" March. It was really a lot of fun.

Our youth leader showed us some decoupage she had done and suggested this as a project for us to do. She also showed us some polished rocks and said this would be fun and an interesting project. Dear Friends, Valentine's Day is coming up and our social will be February 14 at 3:30.

We will also have a contest on the best decorated Valentine card. It will be judged on neatness, creativeness, and decoration. I guess a majority of people have seen our new Supreme Lodge Headquarters Building, but for the ones who haven't, they should. It is different, new, modern, and very interesting, especially the SPJST museum. I was really amused with all the old and new objects that were displayed there. It is something for all to see.

The dedication of the new building was at 1 p.m. It was very crowded, but I still got to see what I wanted to.

The souvenirs were nice and useful. I didn't get to see all of the building but now I have a good excuse to see it again. After we left there, then most of the people went to the Seaton Star Hall. There they had plenty of food and fine music to dance to. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun. It was also very crowded, but the more the better, they say. For our youth, try to come to our Valentine social and meeting if you can. We always welcome your friends and anyone who would like to join the youth club. I hope to see all of you then.

Society. To visit this magnificent structure is to grasp a better understanding of how the "real" Supreme Lodge works. The visitor sees the offices of all the Supreme Lodge officer's, the Museum, the Archives, and the Library

and realizes that he is a part of all of this.

The youth display, that was shown only on January 31, would have made any youth in the state proud of his organization. Over 75 crafts were on display, as were several district recordbooks. Many pictures and plaques hung on the wall showing past achievements.

One item that particularly stood out was a map of the State of Texas with all of the youth clubs located by p I really .enjoyed my visit to the new headquarters of the Supreme Lodge.

Dear Readers, On Sunday, January 24, El Campo presented the play "Muziky, Muziky". I really enjoyed the play. The scenery that was used for the play was beautiful. It really captured my thought of the play. Also, the actors and actresses were very good. They talked Czech during the play. I couldn't understand the play but the English synopsis gave me a good idea of what was going on.

If anybody has a chance to see a Czech play, they ought to go because it was worthwhile.

Under old business was the booties we sent to the rest home. The youth leader reported the patients were pleased with them. A letter was received from the Ennis lodge.

Under new business, we discussed our Valentine program for the mother lodge. Other topics under discussion were our District VI spring meeting, District VI, YAD, and our sports equipment fund. With no further business the meeting was adjourned. Everyone is asked to bring something to paint with Tri-Chem at our next meeting on February 14, The prizes were given to: children — Arline Zak. Adults — Mrs. Ernest Meyer.

Necrology EXPbESSION OF SYMPATHY We the undersigned Resolution Committee, in behalf of the entire membership of Lodge No. 88, Houston, offer our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed brother, EDWARD W. LANDA. Mr. Landa, age 72, passed away in Houston, Thursday, January 28, 1971.

He lived at 730 Sleepyvale Lane.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie; four sons, Edward, David,- John and Fred, and one sister.

Mr. Landa was a mechanical engineer until retirement and then worked for Lewis Refrigeration Co. He was a member of Lodge 88 since 1943.

Services were held Monday, February 1 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

KUBIAK'S LEGISLATIVE REPORTS We have spent approximately 50 hours this week in session surpassing any record of past legislatures in early session work. Several important measures confronted us this past week which are of interest to each of you in the Central Texas area. Monday HJR 21, a proposal to, alter the procedure for amending the constitution in special sessions, passed the House and should pass the Senate. This measure will be placed on the May 16, 1971 ballot in a special election. I voted for this constitutional amendment because at the present time constitutional amendments can be introduced only in the regular session thus handcuffing the legislature during special sessions whenever emergencies arise.

HJR 10, proposal to increase the Senate from 31 to 39 members was voted upon here in the House. I voted against this measure because I do not believe that this is the proper time to increase members in the upper house. If this measure passed, it would cost approximately $500,000 per senator over the two-year period. Another measure, HJR 7 by Don Cavness, passed the House and is headed for the May 16 ballot.

This proposal would release approximately $40 million dollars from the leases and royalties for current usage of state education expenditures. It does not in any way affect the Permanent School Fund and is a proposal which will aid not only the tax-weary citizen, but will enhance the funds applied to public education in this state.

HJR 18, the bill whien establishes a State Ethics Commission, passed the House overwhelmingly this past week.

Wednesday, February 10, 1971 cause there are no "teeth" whatsoever in the measure. It will appear on the May 16 ballot, but has no financial disclosure in the bill. It sets up a 11member commission which would regulate legislators' salaries and travel expenses and would establish some code for all elected officials. I voted against this bill because it is subterfudge. It is nothing more than a way to get around the constitutional limitation on salaries. I have introduced a bill which is a strong ethics bill and hope it will get out of committee.

The Governor's proposal to issue $450 million in bonds ran into trouble and was soundly defeated here in the House. I voted against this measure because I do not believe in deficit financing. We can look at the federal government's position to see how it can wreck a strong financial position.

Matka sama 6 deti vyetiovala-, 3 syny a 3 dcery; v g ichni v dobrern postaveni a Josef ted' byl prvni z deti co zernrel.

Jen nekolik etvereenich metre (a kolik vlastne prostoru by mohla vic mit, kdy je umistena nahoke ye veli kostela v Poliece) mai rodna svetnice hudebniho skladatele svetoveho jmena, Bohuslava Martina. A piece je nervyhiedanvanejSim mistem turista tady.

Je odtud pfekrasnY pohled do Sirokeho °kali, pohled, kterY po cely iivot provazel velkeho skladatele, at' to bylo v Paid2i, el v Anne, Novem Yorku, Nize nebo v Basileji. Nikdy nezapominal na domov.
