FEBRUARY 3, 1971

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The Saturday afternoon, Jan. 30 The weatherman predicts fair, warm, and comfortable weather, and your Rditor is keeping his fingers crossed. Sunday, January 31, 1971 is the day of the dedication of our Supreme Lodge Headquarters Building in Temple. Now please allow your editor to project himself into the next week and write the words and lines as of the date of Wednesday, February 3, 1971, as follows: Sunday, January 31, 1971 is now his- tory and it also was a day of much significance% The Unit pd States of America sent a rocket into space from the launching pad in Florida carrying Apollo 14 for a third manned landing on the moon. Apollo 11 and 12 succeeded in landing and Apollo 1.3 had bad luck due to an explosion and had to return to Mother Earth without accomplishing its mission. With the entire world, we wish complete success and a safe return of Apollo 14 and the three Astronauts back home and to NASA. • • We in our SPJST also had something of historical importance occuring on she same date. We had the dedication of our new Supreme Lodge Office Building in Temple. This is the first time in the 74-year existence of our Society that we have erected our own home for our SL Headquarters. Of course,

A SONG ... Let me be a little kinder, Let me be a little blinder, To the faults of those about me, Let me praise a little more; Let me be when I am weary ' Just a little bit more cheery — Let me serve a little better Those that I am striving for. Let me be a little braver When temptation bids me waver, Let me strive a little harder To be all that I should be; Let me be a little meeker With the brother who is weaker Let me think more of my neighbor, And a little less of me. Apollo 14's flight to the surface of the moon amounts in millions, yes, billions, of dollars, whereas our new building cost not even one Million. Let us value it because it is a certainty that our founders never foresaw such a possibility. A mere mention to them about an amount equal to 1 million dollars in expense would have given them a heart attack. Yes, those poor souls — honest, thrifty, and hardworking never ever dreamed of this! When we look at our new building, or yes, even give it a thought, let us pause in thoughts a moment with a thought of those founders, and give respect to their memory for all the sweat and foresight for the future in founding our SPJST and who made

Sunday's dedicatitin possibLe. Let as take their example and continue with their original ideas and work as they wished it, and we do also. • • There are two reports in this issue and each member would do well to read both. One is our seven SL directors' annual report and the other is from Brother Ben Zabeik. AU local lodge secretaries and financial secretaries please read it and bear with him in his explained delay. • • The Women's Liberation Movement (WLM) seems to have taken a good hold in our SPJST! We have Sister Mary Mrnustik, president of District VI, and sisters Lillie Matejka president of Lodge No. 39, Bryan, Elsie Erdecka president of Lod ge No. 28, East Bernard, Julie Lissa president of Lodge No. 49, Rowena, and now Sister 'Lillie Helmcamp, president of our largest lodge, Lodge 88, Houston! If we have omitted anyone, please forgive us. Our congratulations to all, especially Sister Helmcamp; yours is a huge responsible position and hard. We feel all can do their required duties, especially with the help of all members and that applies to all lodges. • • Written late Sunday night. The dedication was a success, with about 1,00G plus people present (estimated by TV and radio). The program was short and good with Master of Ceremonies Bro.
