FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK We wish to call the attention of our contributors of written material to be published in the Vestnik to the new deadline on page 2, bottom of column 2. Our sincere thanks for your cooperation. The State YAD (Arts, Crafts, Science and Educational, Talent and Beseda) at Lodge Praha No. 29, Taylor, Texas, Sunday, August 17 was very well presented and well attended. It secured to be enjoyed by all and accomplished a good amount of good-will for the spisT, The youth seemed to appreciate what the Society is doing and trying to do for them. Just read their letters of thanks to the Supreme Lodge for the camping days which they enjoyed. We must remember that they are the future of our Society. It is a good idea that the Royalty will be held separately, Sunday, September 14, at Seaton since having it on the same date would surely tire the audience and also the youth very much, even though the hall was air-conditioned and comfortable. The arts, crafts, scientificeducational, talent and Beseda that your editor saw certainly speak well for our youth. We wish to congratulate

That man is the richest whose pleasures are the cheapest. It is characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things. There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify. Simplify. Rather than love, than Money, than fame, give me truth. It takes two to speak the truth — one to speak and another to hear. —Henry David Thoreau all, not only the winners, but all, for it shows that you are sportsmanlike, and will very likely try that such harder next year. Keep up the good work and remember the old motto: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." Here is a thought: Thomas Edison had tried an invention 90 times and each time it failed. His friend told him, "I guess you'll give up now, will you not?" Mr. Edison replied, "Definitely not, I have found 90 ways that it will not work, so I'll try some

others." He was the inventor of our electric bulb, as we all know, among many other inventions, too numerous to mention. The Third Czech Spectacular at Linden Hall, Lodge 66, on August 24 was well- attended and seemed to be well accepted by the audience. The day was overcast and much cooler and, therefore, more comfortable than the previous days had been. The atmosphere of friendliness and fellowship was enjoyable to see. The performance of the Dallas Czech Concert Orchestra tinder the direction of Brother Sid Pokladnik, with their wonderful presentation of many , enjoyable numbers was certainly something that we do not hear every day. The Dallas Lodge Pokruk No. 84 Choral Group with their songs, under the direction of Brother Frank Henzen were wonderful to listen to, the Beseda group of youngsters in their presentation, the West majorettes, the Sokols from Ennis, Dallas, C. Christi, and Houston in their performance, and the clear-spoken speech in Czech of Brother Kleprlik of San Antonio are all to be commended for a job well done. Last, but certainly not
