Let us not forget our State YAIY at Lodge 29 Praha in Taylor. Let us ail; to whom it is possible, use this oC-casion to show our youth that we are glad to have them in our midst, and appreciate their efforts. After we condense this and the pleasure they had at the camps, we have to agree that our youth are really "fine young people.

August 24 is approaching and with it the "Third Czech Spectacular" ' at Ledge 68 in Elm Mott. From the program presented in the Vestnik, our readers can see that the program is rich in its content. It is not just a day to get together, eat, play a few games and visit. It will present to you something different, a concert-type presentation which cannot be assembled in a few snaps of your fingers, a chorus of good singers, and Sokol gymnasts you will love to see perform.

Your editor has had the privilege of hearing the orchestra and chorus and can only add: "Let us lend our support for the occasion and support it."

It is a day we feel sure you will enjoy in a friendly relaxation!

An Informed Membership Is a Loyal Membership . . . Your editor has stated previously that there are things that he would like to write about, however, the hands of the clock keep moving so that it seems that one can never catch up with them. In travels about

the State of Texas from 1948 to 1964, we heard this remark many times: "Oh, what is the difference, the Supreme Lodge will do what it wants to, anyway, regardless of what the convention or we say?" To us, it was an unhealthy feeling to be present among our membership, for we felt it was not so, however, the membership would feel better if there was more information available to them, it seemed.

Your editor and Supreme Lodge President Bro. Nick A. Morris have had a few dsincere Idiscussionri about this aspect of our Society and its needs prior to January 1.

You will note that Bro. Morris has done his utmost in keeping our membership informed as much as possible.

In other words, we will not all of a sudden find ourselves faced with: "Ow Supreme Lodge Building completed, cost: without any previous information as to the money being spent. The same applies to our "Premium Refund Checks." Bro. Morris and Bro. Ben Zabcik plus our local secretaries have tried to convey to us the importance of us members picking up our refund checks. Could we not devote at least that small amount

We read-,it in every Vestnik, where our local secretaries are practically begging us to pick up our checks. We could understand this if the Supreme Lodge was "asking" for check _.Prom us instead of "giving" us one!

People talk about their dislike of getting up early in the morning. One would get the idea that early rising is a hardship. In reality it is one of the delights of each day. "Let inc have a' draught of undiluted - 'air, exclaimed Thorea ii. "Morn ing air! If men will not drink is at the fountain-head' of the day, why, then, we must bottle Up' some and sell it in the shops, for the benefit of those who have lost "their' subscription ticket to morning time in this world."

All progress in the world has been made by men who refused to "know their plaee." They refused to fit into a slot and stay' there. They usually made life uncomfOrtable for those who tried. to hold theth in a set position. Always, thoUgh; they represented the minority.

Sarah llainhoraugh; the little girl in Howard Spring's novel of English life, remembered in later :years how her father worshipped rigid regulations.

Men of sense know they have but one place and that is the place they can be most useful: If that place is high, it is in a high pk:ce they belong. It matters not what their position at birth, what does matter is their ability, their mental and physical capacity to fill the needs of others with greater skill than most.

Those who refuse to acTept standardization, who keep seeking better methods and better products and better ideas, contribute great'y to the growth of a society, a btli tress or a nation, and, yes indei'd, he entire world!

Wednesday, August 13, 1969' one cannot help loving him. He lives continually in a world of wonder and doesn't care who knows it. He is never ashamed to be happy in his own way, and he never insists that others follow his example.

If his friends prefer to stumble over rocks instead of rainbows, that's all right with him.

Great indeed are the historical moments which cannot be specifically marked on a certain date. They are those which embrace, with their deep., meaning, the entire history of a na-' tion — which spread out in time, illuminating the yesterdays with the luster of glory and the tomorrows with the clear light of hope.

Such moments illuminate the entire course of a nation throughout the centuries. They light up its future because historically they justify the past, and they light up the past because they constitute a Moral guarantee for the future .

When a boy, Henry Clay memorised - much of what he read and practiced speaking in the great out-doors.

He said, "I made more than one offhand speech in the cornfield, or in the woods, where but an ox or horse could hear me!"

Clay was known as one of the most brilliant orators of his time and he lived in what was called "the golden age of American oratory."

The great men and women of the past have given us a treasury of ideas that deserve to be kept alive through cur speech and writings. They have proved themselves through their works, and being able to quote from them automatically strengthens our own words.

The future of the American Insurance industry, as well as other forms of commercial and industrial enterprise, depends upon its ability to recruit and train young men possessing college level educations or other forms of higher learning.

For those with the vision and the ambition to take their place in a. new era. the future offers boundless opportunity. We must never cease to question and to learn. We must be, and encourage others also to be a living part of this new age of education. In the insurance business as well as in others, science, knowledge and participation may well be our key to survival and growth in the latter part of this wonderous twentieth century.

Newsbriefs Lodge 6 Outing at Spivey's Crossing An outing at Spivey's Crossing on the Brazos is planned at Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood for Saturday, August 16.

This is especially for those who worked at the July 27th picnic. The lodge is furnishing the meat, bread, and drinks and the sisters are asked to bring pickles, salads and sweets. Come early in the morning and stay all day if you helped with the picnic.

Last week, the first bale of cotton was ginned in West. It was Charles Holy's bale of cotton and the first in McLennan County! Congratulations!

Bro. Eugene E. Pendergast, age 53. passed away July 9, 1969 in the VA Hospital at Houston, and was laid to rest in the VA Cemetery, Houston. He was a member of Lodge 91, Bro. Will Kure passed away August 2, 1969 in Huth Memorial Hospital, Yoakum, at the age of 83. He was a member of Lodge 31, and was interred in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Bro. Doyle Ray Urban, age 20, deceased July 25, 1969 in the Shannon Hospital, San Angelo. He was a member of Lodge 49.

• Sis. Frantiska Podhradsky, age 78. of Lodge 130 passed away suddenly at 3 am. August 8.

The bride, the former Miss Patricia June Trojacek, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Trojacek, Rt. 1, En-

3 nis, and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Percy Fowler, also of Route 1, Ennis. She was graduated from Ennis High School, attended Navarro Junior College and North Texas State University, and is employed by American Telephone and Telegraph Co. The bridegroom, who was graduated from St. John High School and Navarro Junior College is presently attending the University of Texas at Arlington and is employed at Southern Auto Store.

The wedding vows were exchanged in a double ring ceremony and nuptial mass at 3 p.m. July 12 in St. John Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Fellhauer officiating.

Miss Joan Skrivanek, organist for the ceremony, played the traditional prelude, processional and recessional. Mrs. Joe Kudrna sang "Mother at Your Feet" as the bride approached the Blessed Mother's altar; "Ave Maria" arid "J e sus, Jesoe Come to Me" during the loess, and at cominanion, This Is My Body."

The bride, was given in marriage by her father. She chose a floor-length, old-fashioned traditional gown of white silk organza over peau de soie, appliqued with chantilly lace jeweled with crystals and beads. The empire waistline ware centered by a bow. A high scalloped neckline adjoined a sheer yoke to a spread of the imported lace extending to sheer long sleeves with lace trim. A train of peau sole and silk organs-a, falling from the empire -waistline, was accented by appliques of French lace, Silk Illusion fashioned the fingertip veil which fell from a camelotStyled headpiece, covered with alecon lace also jeweled with crystals and beads. For the ceremony, the bride chose a long illusion veil to cover the entire length of her dress and train.

She carried a cascade bouquet of butterfly orchids to which English ivy added a touch of color.

Trlica, who oversees and ndministers therapy prescribed for more than 1,709 different people each year. estimates that about 31,000 different treatments are administered annually by his department. Presently located at the north end of the first floor, the Phyical Therapy Department has a staff of eight persons and occu p ies about 1900 square feet of space All this is scheduled to change dramatically in a few months, when renovation of other existing space and the addition of still more room is completed. The present facility includes eight private treatment booths, and a hydrotherapy section with the Hubbard tank and smaller whirl pools. In the booths, the various treatments administered include hot packs, massages, electrical stimulation to mobilize paralyzed muscles, 1Lb]e exercises, diathermy, ultrasound and traction.

This primitive relief was the forerunner of today's modern electrical stimulation techniques. Physical therapy began to be recognized as a valuable adjunct to medicine around the time of World War I, but didn't receive its Present emphasis until World War when it was discovered that the apraplegies produced by the war could benefit positively and dramatically from therapy. "It was about that time," Trlica relates, "that we found out that these people didn't have to remain helpless for the rest of their rehabilitated to become productive lives — that most of them could be members of society. Since then, the applications of physical therapy have broadened considerably, until now, when arty patient with any kind of physical disability is a candidate far PT. Trlica, asked to cite a few for instances, named cardiovascular patients, accident victims, persons who have sustained fractures, stroke victims and sufferers of emphysema as just a fOw of the various. kinds of patients for whom physical therapy is often prescribed. He said there is a constant exchange of communication between his staff and the doctors on the staff of St. John's Hospital regarding available treatment and equipment as it is related to individual patient needs.

Orthopedists, neurologists, internists, -antatologists, and chest surgeons just a few of the medical special-, rho often order physical therapy otments for their patients. lea says the new facilities planned for his department will include a 6,500square foot unit on the ground floor, plus an auxiliary 800-square foot phy-

Trlica and Mrs. Jean Matthews, also a physical therapist, and the other members of the PT department, have worked closely with the hospital ministration and their consultants in designing the new facilities and in specifying the equipment it will have.

"Many patients are often terribly afraid to stand up again after they have been confined to bed for• a. 'long time," he says, and goes on to describe a new piece of equipment that ‘viii soon be in use.

Called an "ambulator," it will lift patients safely to their feet. All I-Ocala installed in the ceiling will be equipped with rollers, from which a strap, terminating in a harness, will be stisipended. The patient, while still sitting, can be placed in the harness, which will be available in both child and adult sizes. Once he is safely in tile harness, the patient can then rise to his feet' and attempt to stand without fear of falling. "If he should feel dizzy or faint, he still doesn't have to worry about falling — the harness will hold him no until we can help him back to his wheel chair or cart," Trlica explained.

LETTERS LODGE NO. 29, TAYLOR State Youth Achievement Day Dear Members and Friends, The State YAD (crafts, talent, and Beseda) will be held on Sunday, August 17, hosted by Lodge Praha 29, Taylor. Tie hall is located 4 miles east of Taylor.

Dinner consisting of turkey or sausage with all the trimmings will be served beginning at 11 a.m. The price will be $1.25 per plate which includes your drink and dessert.

Registration will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Craft entries register downstairs and talent and Beseda contestants please register upstairs. MI 66, WACO PLANS THIRD CZECH SPECTACULAR Lodge No. 66, Waco, is planning to stage their third Czechoslovak Spectacular on the premises of Linden Hall in Elm Mott, Texas, Sunday, Aug. 24.

This project has been put on every two years since 1965. The lodge feels that putting it on every other year allows for more planning and quality of programming.

k--.onile of the special features this year will he an afternoon outdoor concert by a 30-piece concert brass band, under the direction of Bro. Sid Pokiadnik of Dallas. This group has performed at the Czech Day at the State Fair in Dallas for several years.

Also featured will be a 40-voice Czech choral grotto from Lodge 84, Dallas, which has been enthusiastically received wherever they have performed.

It is one of the oldest organized Czech choral groups in Texas. A number of Sokol gymnasts will present a gymnastic exhibition on the outdoor tennis court during the afternoon. It is expected units from all over Texas will be represented. A free dance will take place later in the evening, with music by Charlie Adamcik's augmented orchestra from Dallas.

Czech-style homemade bread, kolaches, and other delicious Czech pastries will be sold at booths during the afternoon. The noon meal will be prepared by Waco caterers and will be

sold throughout the day. Cold beverages will be offered all day. Traditional Czech sausage will also be sold.

There will be a booth where quality Czech records may be bought, recorded

by Texas bands and from other parts of the U.S. and from Czechoslovakia.

Other attractions and features will be announced in the next few weeks.

Approximately 4,000 people attended this event in 1967, and drew crowds from all over Texas. Excerpts from the 1b67 program were shown at the Czech • Pavilion at San Antonio's HemisFair.

Linden Hall is located one-half mile east off III 35 north of Waco on Farm Road 308. (Take the Elm Mott exit).

The hall is air-conditioned. There is plenty of free parking. There are nice Shade trees on the premises. Most of the entertainment will take place outdoors on a large stage and tennis court.

Bro. Otto Hanus of Waco is chairman of this year's program, and Bro. Nick • A. Morris, president of the Supreme Lodge, SPJST, of Temple, is honorary chairman of the event. There is no admission charge to any of the events, and the public is invited.

I have quite a few on hand that members failed to pick up. 1 will. include a list. If your name appears on the list, our next meeting will be held Sept. 7 at 2 p.m., so that will give every member a chance to come and pick up their checks.

We had the honor, and it was a pleasure, of having Sister and Brother Nick Morris sit in with us at our meet-. ing. Brother Morris cleared up some of the questions that came up about handing out the refund checks. He stated that the refund checks are to be passed out in the SPJST meetings.

Every member should make an effort to come and pick theirs up. There being no further old business, the floor was open for new business.

The first item on the agenda was for the members to decide the date and location of the spring meeting. The spring meeting will be held at Lodge 47, Seaton, on April 12, 1970.

Discussion was bad concerning the 5 cent contribution by lodges to the district, Brothe,r Andrew Marek moved that this contribution be dispensed With. This motion was seconded and carried, The members discussed the awarding of prizes at the District YAD. After much discussion, Brother Frankie Klinkovsky moved that at least three prizes be awarded for each category.

This motion was seconded and carried.

After discussion, it was decided that the district president will send a letter to each local lodge president prior to the spring meeting and ask each local lodge president to give an estimate of the number expected to attend the district meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

My uncle, Bohumil Kocich, of East Bernard, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, at the age of 67. Funeral services were held in the Schulenburg Cemetery. His wife, Agnes, preceded him in death about 16 years ago. Survivors include one son, Daniel Kocich of Rosenberg; one daughter, Erlene Hopkins of San Antonio and four grandchildren; two brothers. Dear Members.

August 17 is not the date you will hear Bro. Sid Pokladnik's orchestra at Lodge 84. That's the clay our Beseda dancers and first place district win-, ners compete for state honors: at Tay, lor, Texas — so many excited members are planning to make the trip from Dallas.

Of course, at the last meeting President Pokladnik announced the cancellation, but the heat, plus having so many -people waiting to hear Czech music got things mixed in my mind.

I hope my mistake has not created problems. A new date for this concert has not been set, but when it's announced, you can be sure I will have it correct. I apologize to all.

Last night was the second practice of the Moravian Beseda at our lodge.

This is a new version (to our group anyway), of that beautiful dance and you can see it at the State Fair of Texas, Oct. 5. Bro. and Sis. Oates of Lodge 130 are the instructors and boy! what workers they are. You would not believe the respect this charming lady with a smile gets when she gives instructions. Our membership appreciates her sincere efforts.

No, that was not Don Ho dancing with me at the Hawaiian dance last Saturday. It was Ken, our boy, (in case you didn't recognize the short hair), on leave from the Army for two weeks. It was great to have him around.

We also have to thank those wonderful ladies from the Harvest House Kountry Kitchen Band. You wouldn't believe the music that your ordinary cooking and washing utensils can put out. Their pianist, Louise Hunt, keeps the beat going. The crowd really enjoyed this part of the program.

The local lodge entertainment was a Hawaiian number and a vocal.

While I'm at it I would like to thank Sis. Vanicek and her helpers for furnishing transportation for the Harvest House ladies, There were 13 members, 'odd number dOn't you think? Thank you all, or as they say elsewhere, all of you.

Pres. Vanicek introduced Engineer Charlie Miller. He had graphs of the yard for the black topping project and the cost of three different plans. The Membership discussed this project and then authorized the president and vice-president to pick a committee to investigate the needs at the lodge hall, black topping or a walk-in box for the bar. Improvements are needed in both places. These committee members are Anton Motl, Frankie Novosad, Willie Kohutek, Johnnie Hruska, Woodrow Marek, Bill Kosarek and Frankie Klinkovsky. They will meet with President Vanicek and V-P Johnnie Kohut.

Then there will be a report and passilaly a vote taken at the next. regular meeting on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

The membership voted to have a giblet gravy and noodle soup supper after the September 7 meeting. This will he for members and all the picnic workers. Put this date down. 1 mint be on another trip, I have a lot of states to cover yet.

Recently, Sis. Annie Pavlica ani.i daughters, Emily Mikeska and Ruby L. Bolton, grandson Gene E. Mikeska, and granddaughter Linda Kaye Mikeska made a trip through the states of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

They visited Pikes Peak and ESI1CS Park in Colorado; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and Old Abe L•ncoln's Silver Dollar Saloon in Montana.. The place has donations from all over the world. These silver dollars were mounted on the walls, bar, ceiling, 10,572 so !far. 'The country around Idaho was real lush and green with lots of baled hay. No mules working. They just drive up to the bale with an automatic bale pitcher-upper.

We took the coastal route. through Oregon. It was overcast so we didn't see too much. In California, we drove around in the giant redwoods. I really thin]: e were lost. One sigh said .187 miles I a_ San Francisco. We drove 30 to 40 iniles - and carne upon a •sign saying San,Franeisco, 223 miles. Boy did those kid- drivers catch it from me.

Then we drove by the Pacific Ocean.

It's either trees or water, so you can have your pick.

In San Francisco we took in China Town, Fishermen's Wharf, Fairmont and Mark Hopkins - Hotels, Purple Onion, 13imbo's and Pinoellio's Clubs.

George Gobel was appearing at B1111.1)0'8. The Golden Gate Bridge you have to cross and to your left was Alcatraz Island without prisoners now. We didn't get to Hipnytown. They have a slogan in San Francisco, "clean up the town, take a hi p py home with you."

Those money machines a everywhere so you sure can't keep arty charge in your pocket or purse. We all had fun but nobody came back with a bundle and nobody wanted to jump from the hoover Dam. In New Mexico, at Santo Fe we saw the Famous Stairway in the Chapel Lort4111. WS a miracle of construction. The stairway is circular and conof 33 51121)S alit] 2 C , Mlillete turns of :100 degrees each, wit boat a center support. It rests against the loft at the top and era the floor. Wooden peggi, rather than nails, were used. The chapel was built in 1387 at a cost of $30,000. It had no stairway to the loft.

One day a gray-haired man appeared with a donkey and a tool chest. It took him eight months to build the stairway. The wood is not native to New Mexico, so where it came from

Wedneaday, August 12, 191;9 was a mystery. The wood is spliced in seven places on the inside and nine places on the outside, each piece forming a perfect curve. The carpenter had only a saw, T-square, and a hammer.

The Sisters said he disappeared after the stairway was finished without receiving his pay. Some old-timers felt it was St. Joseph himself. The Sisters had prayed and they claimed their prayers were answered. 1 wish all of you could see this chapel and stairway, it is really beautiful. This was always mama's dream to see this work of art.

I got ahead of my trip. We passed up the Grand Canyon and the pain,ted desert in Arizona to see the stairway.

I had bought a griper's certificate when the trip started, but I don't know what happened to it. We always had a session in the morning for 30 minutes but that poor one man caught, the static. Gene says never travel with four women, especially your kin, but I think he had a little fun.

We played games, crossword puzzles, and we also saw license plates of all states, except Kentucky. I know wrote them all clown in my little green book.

When we got back to Lubbock we stopped to visit more kin — Ernest and Angeline Kristinek. Boy, she lit into that kitchen and soon We sat down to a meal fit for a king. We ate like pigs because cafe food gets mighty tiring. Thank you, sister. Sis. Pavlica visited them for three days with Krestinek, Sr., Fredda and Junior Kristinek and kiddos, the Macha family, Christine Bartek and Frances Hatla.

It sure was hot here - after being in the 50-degree-and-up climate.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: As mentioned in my earlier report, we won one league championship outright and we were tied for the first half in the other league. However, we had to play off the first half tie, since we had also won the second half, therefore we played Standard Brands on Monday night, July 28 and we won the playoff game, 12-1, and we are also

t the champs in our Thursday night. league. We won both of our leagues and two more trophies to add to our growing collection. We also won a spot, in the City League Championship playoffs commencing Tuesday night, July .29, whereby all league champs play each other to determine the Dallas City Champion. With a current 20 win and 4 loss record for the year, we have a very good chance to finish in the top four in the playoffs.

In our Monday night win, Wes Jaska hurled perhaps his best game of the season, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out six batters. The whole team played a very good game afield as well as at bat. Leading hitters were Leonard Drozd with a home run, a double and a single; Bob Schoendienst with two singles and walk: Albin Vrana, Lawrence ilomsya, and Connie Brennan each had a single and a walk; Wesley Jaska had a single: Pete Thomas , 2 walks; Doug Hillis and Tom Warren each with a walk. Final results: 12 runs, 9 hits and 8 walks in a smashing offensive performance.

We opened play Wednesday night, July 30 at Lawnview Diamond No. 2, and our first opponent was Ford, Beacon and Davis. We won by a score of 9 to 6 behind the pitching of Lionel Schulz. He struck out '7 batters, walked two and allowed 8 hits.

Leading hitters were Torn Warren with a home run and a single, Lawrence Honza, a double, a single and a walk; Leonard Drozd, a triple and two singles; Lionel Schulz with a double, a single and walk; Albin Vrana, a single and two walks; Connie Brennan, Ben Jarma, and Ted Theilig each had a single. We had a very nice turnout of members at this game.

Friday night, Aug. 1, we played Friendly Chevrolet and we won 11 to 0 in five innings. Wes Jaska hurled a perfect game — not a batter reached first base. Leading hitters were Bob .Schoendienst with a triple, a walk and two singles; Connie Brennan with two singles and a walk; Albin Vrana with two singles; Pete Thomas with a double and a walk; LawrenCe Honza with a single and a walk; Paul Valenta with a single and a walk, Leon and Drozd with a single, and Wes Jaska with a walk.

We continued playing in the winners bracket and we played Approved Electric on Monday night, Aug. 4. We lost by a score of 5 to 4, but it took us 11 innings before we were beaten.

Actually, we gave the game away as

the team did not play up to our capability. Lionel Schulz hurled a very good game, going all eleven innings, allowing 7 hits, no walks and struck out 12 batters. Leading hitters were Albin Vrana with 2 singles and a walk, Leonard Drozd with 2 singles, Lawrence Honza with a double, a sacrifice and 2 walks; Connie Brennan with a double and a walk; Bob Schoendienst with a single and a walk, and Pete Thomas with a single. Again we had a large turnout at both of these games. By losing, we dropped into the losers' bracket, meaning we had to win or be eliminated from the tournament.

We played again Wednesday night and our opponent was Ford, Beacon and Davis, whom we had beaten, 9-6, earlier in the playoffs. This time we were not as fortunate since we lost a very close game by a score of 1 to 0, and thereby we were eleminated from the playoffs. Wes Jaska hurled a very fine game allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5 batters. All we needed was a couple of runs. Larry (Connie) Brennan caught a very fine game, as he did in all the previous games. Though we had 4 hits, they were scattered and not at the right" time. Leading hitters were Ted Theilig with a triple ; Albin Vrana, Bob Schoendienst, and Connie Brennan with a single apiece. We had another fine rooting section at the game and we are very grateful for the many members and friends who made the effort and came out and rooted for the team during the playoffs.

Though we were eliminated, our record of 22 wins, 6 ,losses is still an outstanding accomplishment for the season and we feel all of the players consider this a very successful as well as an enjoyable season. Our thanks to our sponsors and to everyone who helped make this successful season. The team will hold its annual awards and steak dinner, probably the second Saturday in September and this is the climax to our season. A final report will be given after the event.

Fraternally, Maxine Pavliska, DID —SP.ISTDISTRICT VII 1969, CAMP The youth from Lodges 107 arid 117 arrived at Camp Val Verde Monday, after lunch. All the children were able to board the SPee-JeST (Robstown Youth Club's bus) and thus an enjoyable get-together was held on our way to camp. Upon arrival, 42 children and seven chaperones immediately threw themselves into three days of various camp activities. Everyone enjoyed the hospitality of Val Verde.

We would like to extend our thanks to our State Youth Director, our chaperones and all the staff for jobs that were very capably carried out. Our leaders especially enjoyed the hired staff. For the first time, we were able to enjoy some leisure time. The children took part in horsemanship, riflery, archery, swimming, crafts, indoor and outdoor activities as well as campouts and cook-outs.

We left right after breakfast, a very tired but happy busload of campers.

Fraternally, Wilma Havran, Youth Leader LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Members and Friends, We held our regular Club meeting Sunday, Aug. 3. At this meeting we decided to have our annual swimming party on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Spivey'F, Crossing on the Brazos River. We will go early in the morning and those who cannot go early are asked to join us when they can. This party is being held for all youngsters who worked for our annual lodge picnic, so we are inviting all of you to be sure and come.

We will meet by the Farmer's Gin office at 8:30 am on Saturday.

The food and drinks will be furnished by the youth club; however, we want to ask everyone to bring some salad and sweets to go with barbecued hamburgers, wieners, and other meats.

On this day we will swim, play, eat, rest, have a cookout and a day of relaxation and fun.

Then President Nick Morris and Secretary Raymond Urbano ysky gave out the point contest awards. Then all lodges had group talent. After the talent the judges judged craft and the posters. The winners of each will go to state YAD which will be held on August 17, at Lodge 29 Taylor.

Dear Members, After our June meeting, we decided that we would have a group entry in the district YAD, so we thought it would be better to bold the practices at each other's homes.

party. From then on we began to enjoy it more and more.

One Thursday our practice brought laughter. Mrs. Pauline Pavliska recorded our song on tape. We thought that was the funniest thing on earth.

We then wondered about costumes on stage. This was solved by suggestions from everyone and finally we were to wear bellbottom pants and white shirts and a rid sash around the waist.

Dear Readers, 'Die Lodge 66 Youth Club held its monthly meeting on August 3 with President Cindi Locke presiding. There was a very good attendance. The minutes were read by Donna Gerlich and approved as read.

Under new business, the youth club discussed a possible slumber party. If this can be arranged, it will take pla:'e on Friday, Sept. 5.

The youth club had a discussion of camp, winch will take place August 10-13 at Camp Val Verde. Lodge 66 will be the host for Sunday. On that day we will have a campout.

Scrap books were passed out to the historians for this year.

Mrs. Parma, our leader, asked that everyone bring a sheet to be used to make cup towels and tablecloths.

Instead of having a drawing, the youth club had a contest. Each person had to guess how many gumdrops were in a package. The winners are: teenage — Julie Slovak; junior — Patricia Stanislav, Cynthia Slovak, Sandra Slovak, and Tana Kutni. Congratulations to you all.

I heard that Margaret Pavlicek, one of our junior members, has been iil.

Dear Readers, I would like to report on the fun afternoon we had Friday, Aug. 1, At 4 o'clock, Mr. Johnson, director of the Ilobstown Water Plant, showed us interesting equipment of the plant. We learned a lot about how our water is made fit for us to chink. I enjoyed seeing how the water filter was washed. We are very thankful to Mr. Johnson for taking time to guide our group.

After the tour we enjoyed out sack lunches and drank soda water furnished by the club.

Our next big event was four wonderful days we spent at Val Verde, August 4-7. I will write more about that later.
