FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK A friend with, a huge income isn't going to leave much of a fortune when he dies. He wants to enjoy the fun of giving right now. He says it will give him no thrills to have his money distributed after his death. A modern fable by some unknown author helped him to form his present philosophy of giving. A rich man said to a friend, "Why is it everybody is always criticizing me for being miserly when everyone knows have made provisions to leave everything I possess to charity when I die?" "Well," said the friend, "let me tell you about the pig and the cow. The pig was lamentM• to the cow about how unpopular he was. Said the pig, `People are always talking about your gentleness and your kind eyeS. Sure you give milk and cream, but I give even more. I give bacon and ham I give bristles, mil they even pickle my feet. But nobody likes me. Why is that?' "The cow thought a minute, and said, 'Well, maybe it's because I give while I'm still living'." • • You cannot always tell a lie by the score card or by any ready reference. Lies are often so cunningly constructed that you cannot peer into, around or through them: However, you can always look at the source. And the one factor which may indicate a lie is

ANOTHER BABY BOOM LOOMING ON HORIZION Probably Will Top Record If Late '50s Another baby boom? You can just bet your bassinet on

it, reports the Institute of Life Insurance. The boom will not be immediate, but a record 4.5 million babies are expected to arrive on the American scene in 1980 -- topping the former record of 4.3 million births in the late 1950s. The reason: between now and the end of the next decade, the number of young adults 18 to 34 years of age will increase by two-fifths another echo of the spectaeular baby boom following World War II. What this all amounts to is one baby boom begetting another. The Institute, citing recent studies by the National Industrial Conference Board, reports that: —An estimated 2.5 million marriages are expected to take place in 1980, compared with about 2 million this year. — There arc now about 60 million households in the United States. By 1980, that figure is expected to rise to 76 million — an increase sf, some 25 per cent. Great Impact The projected baby boom will have a far greater social and economic impact than that of the late '50s, the Institute notes. The increase in births in the '50s was in large part of families having their third, fourth or fifth child. But many of the babies born in 1980 will be first
