Sunday, June 29, at Linden Hall, Lodge 66, Elm Mott at the District III YAD, your editor had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of a young fellow-member who was there to be one of the judges. He is a brother in our SPJST and a member of Lodge No. 36, West, according to information given by Lodge 36 Secretary Bro. Jerome Kopecky. lie is our fraternal brother and State Senator Murray Watson. We offer our congratulations and the following information received from the Governor-for-a-Day Committee: State Senator Murray Watson, a quiet young small-town product who "never dreamed I'd ever be sitting in the Sena te," will serve as Texas' Governor for a Day on July 12. Friends of the lanky 37-year-old attorney from throughout the state and his home district will congregate in Austin that day for the verbal and other tributes traditionally associated with the State Senate's President ProTem actually becoming the state's chief executive for a day. Governor Preston Smith and Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes will both be out of the state. Senator Watson, who first went to the legislatue 14 years ago as a 22year-old House of Representatives bill

We have no right to ask You, So why not ask yourself! clerk, was sworn in as interim President Pro-Tern of the Senate during the closing hours of the 61st Legislature. His wife, Greta, and their 5-yearold daughter, Millicent, stood proudly at his side as the lieutenant governor performed the swearing-in. Senator Watson will be officially sworn in as Governor for July 12 by the Chief Justice of the Tenth Court of Civil Appeals in Waco, Frank G. M,cDonald. The two are close personal friends, and both are graduates of the Baylor University School of Law. The swearing-in ceremony , will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Governor's office reception room. From 9:30 to 10 a.m. Watson will sign
various proclamations in his new role as governor. A reception will follow in the governor's office from 10 a.m. to noon, and also from 2 to 4 p.m. The Watsons will be "at home" at an open house in the Governor's Mansion across from the capitol from 3 to 5 p.m. The day's main social event will be a banquet honoring Watson, starting at 7 p.m. in Austin's Terrace Motel Convention Center. Hundreds of Watson supporters from his 5-county senatorial district are due to gather to hear tributes to Watson and to present a variety of personal gifts of appreciation. Tickets to the affair are on sale for $5 each. The day's activities will include musical and other entertainment, and from 10 ant. to 5 p.m. an art show on the second floor of the capitol will display the works of artists residing in Watson's district. An informal committee is supervising arrangements for the festivities.
