FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK THOUGHTS'

Convention Proceedings. The complete minutes of the 20th Convention have been received and work is already under way to publish them in the Vestnik as soon as possible, most probably on an installment basis, since the entire document is very bulky, This means that the next few issues will be devoted largely to the publication of these proceedings, so writers and correspondents, please take note. The minutes will also appear in booklet form a little later after they appear in the Vestnik, These will appeat only in the En c,?Tlisti. language. • •

for a phone call frets him. Waiting on his wife u psets him. Almost any kind of waiting gets his temper riled. This is the same guy who finds delight in waiting endless hours for the fish to bite.

Watch the Bulletin Board! In setting the dates of your various district meetings and other functions, it is well to first check the "SPJST Bulletin Board" in each issue of the Vestnik to see if your contemplated date does not conflict with a date that has already been selected by another district. That's why these dates are published weeks, and even months, in advance. There are usually enough Sundays to choose from, if we will only bother to check first, certainly insofar as our district functions are concerned. This will make for better attendance from neighboring districts, as well as by the Suprethe I.:odge officers at your event. • •

Resolutions of Sympathy. In preparing lodge resolutions (more appropriately called "Expressions of Sympathy"), some of our reporters arc leaving out some of the essential facts about the deceased. In this, as in all reports, we need to remind ourselves of the five basic reporting requirements: who, what, when, where and why. Some of the obituaries fall far short of these basic facts. You should certainly give the full name of the deceased, when and where he or she died, place of burial, age, number of lodge where membetship was held, complete list of survivors (but not necessarily where they all live), plus any other

pertinent information that will make the final tribute as complete as possible. If you can't get all the information right after death and burial, wait a few days until you can get all the data together. However, it doesn't look too good to have such an Expression of Sympathy published two and three months after death. Some of these are too brief and carelessly done. Some are not legible. We don't like to guess about matters of this sort. We owe it to our deceased brothers and sisters to make our last tribute to them as complete as possible, without being too wordy.

People ate frequently heard to say that the past is dead. It is actually the future, however, that is dead, and we make it Wale alive only by applying what we have learned from the living past to the present. History is indeed a good teacher. If we don't learn from it, then we're poor student:. • • French Slogan. You've heard the three-part French slogan that says: "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity." What Much of the modern world has yet to learn is the Most ithportant of the three — the last one -- Fraternity. Without it, Liberty is bound to trample the idea, of Equality, or

THIS, THAT, AND THE OTHER

If one's domestics speak well of their employer in private to their own friends, that is the ultimate criterion of one's good character. Those who complain about the way the tall bounces are often the ones who dropped it.
