FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK YARD Observations. We have attended two of our District Youth Achievement Days so far and would thus like to make a few observations on this event. One big impression that one gets is that the standard and quality of the .various, performances is getting better year after year. We can see this by simply going back a few years and comparing today's product with that of a few years back. The District Yotith Director iS primarily responsible for this day's events and for seeing that things move along as smoothly and quickly as possible. She needs all the help , she can get, but there should be ' no question about who is in charge. And if she plans adequately and properly, thing's will work out fine. Of course, everything works smoother after a couple of years' experience and the learning that comes through trial and error. There are still a few wrinkles that will, I'm sure, be ironed out as we move along. However, there is no substitute for thorough planning and attention to small details. Somehow, the bigger items always manage to work out OK. Sister Wilina Nesuda makes a wise observation in her report this week when she states that there is more to the royalty contest than "a handful

wine- tenths of wisdom consists Leinr, wise In time. — T. Roosevelt of notes and a podium; it requires self-confidence." We might add that just as a cowboy hat doth not a cowboy make, a long formal and other attire does not make a queen or king. These are all nice accouterments, but in the final analysis, it is the quality of the delivery that really counts, and more attention must be paid to this aspect of the competition. All in all, our YADS are coming along very nicely. More and more young people are becoming involved, which is a tribute to the parents as well as to the youth theinselves. The local youth leaders also deserve much credit, for promoting and fostering this interest. The Supreme Lodge is doing
all it can to help and promote activities of our young people. With such continued and concerted efforts, we cannot help but succeed. • • Convention Costs. According to the up-to-the-minute figures from the office of Financial Secretary Bro. Ben Za.zeik, the cost of the 20th Convention stands at $8R,506.80. It will be more than that before the final expenses are included. Lodgt Disbands. Lodge No. 78, Jourdanton, has asked to disband. After it does so, it will leave us with 137 lodges on our organizational roster. • • New Hqs, Bldg. Site. Officers and directors of the Supreme Lodge have started tackling the problem of choosing a site for the new headquarters office building, as mandated by the 20th Convention. Several sites in the Temple area are being considered and carefully examined, and the exact location will probably be determined in a special meeting of that body on August 6th and 7th. Efforts have gotten under waY to sell the present Supreme Lodge office building. ♦ • Who Has Life InSurance? A new nationwide consumer survey shows that '11 out of every WU American men,
