OUOTES .. .
Experience is of two kinds — personal and that of others. There is wisdom in giving careful attention to the experiences of other people. By so doing, we judge between worthwhile and profitable experience and govern ourselves accordingly. The history of the world is a good subject to learn the lessons of experience. There is one school which we must all attend in order to better equip ourselves for our tasks and it is taught by the wise old schoolmaster known as Experience. He teaches that which his name implies. Profit by him.
"Nothing on earth consumes a man more quickly than the passion of resentment." —Friederich Nietzsche 4 • "Do not complain about old age. It is a privilege denied to many." —Anon. • • "The degree of one's emotion varies inversely with one's knowledge of the facts — the less you know, the hotter —Bertrand Russell you get." • • Contact with opportunity is like contact with a live wire. It is likely to knock a man silly unless he is prepared to handle it.
One of the nicest aspects of this job is that we receive very few letters (less than a dozen in 1966) that might be considered "questionable" in content. When we do, the by-laws instruct the editor to forward such material to the Publication Committee, who "decide about the objectionable content . . . The editor does not and cannot return such material to the sender. That is the sole responsibility of the Publication Committee. The matter is then completely out of the hands of the editor. A good rule of thumb to follow on such matters is: "Will this be of genuine lasting benefit to the SPJST?" From time to time, we still get letters mentioning the game of bingo,
raffles, or some other form of chance or lottery. Postal regulations clearly prohibit publication of anything having to do with such matters. • • With all the various youth activities coming up, this might be a good time to remind all those who will take pictures that these should be taken headon or bold-face, with as much blackwhite contrast as posible. Small snapshot with a large group of people in it

has no publication value, since they will not be recognizable. Avoid the "snapshot idea," since those might be good for the family album or scrapbook but are not suitable for publication. I will not be able to attend all the district functions, so if you are going to be in charge of the picturetaking, keep these pointers in mind. Fuzzy and unclear pictures are simply not acceptable. When you write something for publication, be sure and put your lodge number and location at the top thusly: Lodge No. 400, Good Town. Nothing else is necessary. Letters must be signed, but names will be withheld upon request. Finally, people still send material for publication in the Vestnik to the Supreme Lodge in Temple. That merely delays it. People still send changes of address to us here in West. They should be forwarded to Temple, to the Supreme Lodge. The mailing list is maintained there. Fraternals and You. We are living in an ever-changing world. Some of the methods used successfully in the past are no longer workable. The Model T Ford was, at one time, a practical and most economical automobile. For about twenty years it served us well, or until our highways became better and our desires became stronger to cover more
