This Veterans' Day, November 11th, let us pause reverently to honor ALL those who have given •to our country's cause "the last full measure of devotion."

Thoughts for Veterans' Day from a veteran who is no more: . . . The battalion lost a hell of a lot of good men but they fought well . . . We don't get much news here .. . The ones we do get are full of the same stuff — people, so-called Americans picketing, marching, and demanding an end to the war . . . You'd think people would appreciate their freedom enough to be willing to fight for it in a foreign land- Burning draft cards, refusing to serve, it's sickening . . I wonder what became of the old American spirit of nationalism.

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned but I'm worried as hell . • .

We either fight them here today or in our own backyards later . . . I can't believe Americans would take up collections to help the enemy . . . I've lost about 15 pounds . . . I've managed to clean up my jungle rot but still have diarrhea. It's really nothing to worry about.

It's just an occupational hazard in Viet Nam . . . Please write soon . . . I'll do my best to answer. This has been the longest damn summer in my whole life."

TERESA VALCHAR A GRAND OLD LADY IS GONE This past week, the sad news spread across the state that the oldest charter member of the SPJST, Sister Teresa Valchar, passed away at 9:15 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30th. She would have been 103 this coming Nov. 26th. She had been living with her son Henry and unmarried daughter Martha on the original family homestead in the Bila Bora Community northeast of Hallettsville.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1st, from the Hubbard Funeral Home in Weimar. A large host of friends and relatives attended to bid their last farewell to this great lady who was admired and loved by so many. Services were conducted by Rev. F. J. Kostohryz and SPJST Supreme' Lodge President Edward L. Marek.

Interment was in the Ella Hora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry E Valchar, Julius Ennis, Frank Rokyta, Jaro Fojt, Johnnie Fojt, and Elgin Miculka. Sister Valchar had been a member of the Vsetin Brethren Church.

Survivors include four daughters and two sons, nine grandchildren, and 20

Wednesday, November 10, 1965 great-grandchildren: daughters Mrs. John (Anna) Fojt, Mrs. John (Vlasta) Wojtek, Mrs. Frank (Lydia) Roznovak, and Miss Martha Valchar, all of the Bila Hora-Vsetin areas; sons Jerry J. Valchar, and Henry E.. Valchar, also of the Bila flora community. Six children are deceased.

Sister Teresa eValchar, nee Coufal, was born in Cermna, Czechoslovakia, on Nov. 26th, 1862, the oldest of three daughters of Frank and Teresie Coufal. In 1869 with her parents and grandmother they emigrated to America, arriving at Galveston in the spring of 1869, after a voyage of eight weeks.

From Galveston they traveled by train to Brenham, and by wagon to Wesley, Washington County, where they lived for several years.

For a while they lived in a small house belonging to one of the local landowners. The father did comon labor to earn a living. The fact that her mother was a trained midwife, necessitated her being away from home often; therefore, Teresa had to manage the home and care for her small sisters.

The first summer they picked cotton for a landowner whose field was a great distance from their home. They stayed in the field all day. One day when they returned home they found a pile of ashes where their home had stood and everything they brought with them from the Old Country was destroyed by fire. Through the kindness of good people they got a new start. Their neighbor Ripple offered them a home, so that in the first year in America they had a second home, even though it was a small one-room home, without windows and only one door, a fireplace where all the cooking was done, since they had no stove. For three years they rented from the same landowner. Then they moved to another place in the same vicinity, where they lived for five years, then two years in another place, and at the end of the year 1880 they moved from Wesley to Lavaca County to the community of Bila Hora, where they arrived on June 1, 1881.

On Nov. 24th, 1884, Teresa was married to Josef Valchar, and they moved to Colorado County in the community of Oakland, where they lived for sev eral years. In 1889. they bought a farm near Oakland. sister Valchar still lived on the same farm, with her son, who owns the farm, at the time of her death.

Sister and Brother Valchar were

VESTNfK blessed with 12 children, two sons and ten daughters, six of whom died. Sister Valchar had nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sister and Brother Valchar were charter members of our Order and Lodge No. 16, Bila flora. Sister Valchar was the only living charter member of Lodge Bila Tiara No. 16. Most of her children with their heisbands or wives and married grandchildren belong to the SPJST and Lodge Bila Bora No. 16.

Sister and Brother Valchar were true fraternalists, being not only charter members of the .SPKT but also of Lodge No. 16, Bila Hora, and of RVOS Lodge No. 33, of which Bro. Valchar was the first secretary. Bro. Valchar passed away on Nov. 1, 1939.

Sister Valchar was the oldest surviving charter member of the SPJST. She would have observed her 103rd birthday this coming Nov. 26th. The Supreme Lodge, SPJST, paid Sister Valchar her endowed voucher in cash in November, 1958, when she reached the age cf 96.

The entire membership of the SPJST expresses their profound . sorrew at the passing of Sister Valchar, and extends their deepest sympathy to the surviving family and relatives. —ISPJS'12—

Fea.ures JAMES JANOUSEK APPOINTED STATE YOUTH DIRECTOR In a recent meeting of the Supreme Lodge, SPJST, Brother James J. Janousek was appointed to the post of State Youth Director, replacing Bro. Jim Kucera, who resigned this past summer.

Brother Janousek and his bride of only a few months, reside in Dallas, 11327 Wyatt, and both are members of.SPJST Lodge No. 84, Dallas. James is the son of Brother and Sister Otto Janousek of that city. James has been very active in youth activities in his own lodge, and, more recently; in adult lodge activities. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, with a degree in Food Preparation. He also studied Czech at the university with Dr. Vladimir Kucera.

Brother Janousek brings with him a wealth of experience in youth activities. As a member of the Teen Club of Lodge 84, Dallas, James arranged parties and contests to get new members and friends interested in lodge activities; re-activated the Czech Beseda at Lodge 84; re-activated and directed plays, the first ones at Lodge 84 since

JANOUSEK New State Youth Director World War I; organized and participated in plays and programs at Lodge 84; . arranged weekend educational trips; began teen choral group for special ceca.sions; succeeded in getting teenagers to attend lodge and district deetings; founder of the Lodge 84 Teen Club in 1956; initiated first SPJST Queen Contest in 1957; was given a seat on the Lodge 84 Entertainment Committee; promoted Teenage Club activities by soliciting and getting support from local businessmen; achieved representation in the Texas Fraternal Congress; was a winner in SPJST Points contests --- local, district, and state; was the first teenage flag bearer for District III. While studying at the University of Nebraska, JaMes, in addition to studying Czech, continued work in all phases of Czech _activities. He re-activated the Czech Komensky Club and revived its former goals of promotion of Czech culture and traditions; organized the first Czech culture program. including the "Czech Spectacular" at the university which created m:rch interest; the "Czech Spectacular" was the first event to be attended and officially recognized by the Governor of Nebraska and the President of the United States, through U. S. Senator Roman Hruska; worked to set up a Czech Scholarship Fund which operates to-

day with funds in excess of $20;000; reorganized the Czech Alumni Club; travelled throughout Nebraska, forming Beseda dance groups and other Czech folk dance groups; encouraged statewide Beseda participation; worked with the Board of Directors of Nebraska Czechs, Inc., an organization composed of representatives from all Czech organizations in Nebraska; delivered lectures on Czech music; and participated in displays of Czech arts, crafts, foods, etc., whenever the opportunity presented itself.

For the time being, the Janouseks will continue living at their Dallas address, until after the arrival of their first-born, and will be moving to Temple early in 1966. We extend our heartiest congratulations to Brother Janousek in his new post, and wish him every success in this very exacting post.

OCTOBER 28th OBSERVED AT MAI The special significance of Oct. 28th — Czechoslovak Independence Day — was brought out to the students of Dr. John Skrivanek's Czech language classes. Dr. Skrivanek and his assistant, Alois Mladenka, spoke to the classes in Czech about the historical signifiDance of the date when Czechoslovakia proclaimed its independence as a new state after the end of World War I. Professor Skrivanek told his students, among other things, that today's citizens of Czechoslovakia are discouraged from conimemmorating this date, and that it is largely up to Americans of Czechoslovak descent not to forget this important date in Czech history. He further stated that our Czech people, especially the youth, should be made aware of the great figures of Czech history, such as Masaryk, Bcnes, Stefanik, and to recall, with great honor and respect, the founders of the new Czechoslovak Republic.

Our goverment bought from Siberia in 1891, a herd of about 1,000 reindeer, Vnd moved them over to Alaska. They now number some 300,000, and have served as mainstay of Eskimo's diet for many year's.

Hce replaces Judge Henry Schovajsa of i'1,92 Grange, Ludwig L. Matusi, 72, passed away in the Wagner Memorial Hospital in Shiner en Oct. 28th. Burial was in the Shiner Catholic Conetery. Brother Mates was a member of SPJST Lodge Vlastenez No. 45, Ehiner. a Mrs. Anna Kossa, 70, passed away in the LaMarque Rest Home on Oct. 29th.

Burial was in the Old Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. Sister Rosso was a :Member of SPJST Lodge No. 146, Galveston. a Willie Ventrcek, 52, passed away in his home in Jourdanton on Oct. 26th.

Interment was in the Jcurdanton City Cemetery. Brother Ventrcek was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 147, Jourdanton.

John Filipec, 25, passed away in Dallas, Texas, on Oct. 18th, Burial was in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.

Here are some late news items: Sister Annie Hribek had an eye operation in Columbus and is doing- fine. We also lost another good member, Bro. Josef Kroulik. He was living with one of his daughters in Bellville, but was brought to Smithville for burial.

All of you know that our November meeting involves the election of officers for the coming year, so be sure and come cut and vote your choice. We will have lunch after the meeting, so sisters, bring something, please. Maybe Sister Ruth Ann Fritz will give us a report about the district meeting and the youth program the y had. Wednesday, N'Ovember 10, 1965 Bryan, Texas Dear Vestnik Readers, I want to express my thanks to all who helped with our District One meeting, yesterday, Oct. 31, 1:361 I am especially proud of the large group of children who attended this meeting.

We had 61 children in our program, which is the most participants we have ever had in any one program. All of our five youth clubs were represented, including the one in the process of organizing at this time. Thanks go to the youth leaders; they did a good job with these children. I also want to thank the ladies who brought desserts for our luncheon and helped with the serving. All in all, I think this was another good meeting and I am looking forward to the next one.

Must also mention Brothers Marek and Morris; we were so very happy to have you with us.

If you can, come and give these young people your support; they need it. All the money made on the dinner and play will go into the Swimming Pool Fund, and it is your children, or your grand child, who will be enjoying the swimming pool next summer, we hope! A delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served from 11 on, and there will be an English play, "Maid of Money," starting at 2:30 p.m. Director Birdie Hilsher and the -Junior Dramatic Club are working hard on this hilarious comedy.

I have seen this play, and it is a very good story and a real comedy! There will be booths for children and fun for all, so bring your family and your friends to Lodge 88 this Sunday for a day of enjoyment; you will be helping our youth!

These are all popular orchestras with a good following, so do come and

join us in dancing to good music! You can make reservations by calling UN 2-9677 on Saturdays from 12 to 4. You can make your reservation for the Jimmy Brosch Pre-Thanksgiving dance on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd from 6 to 10 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 24th from 12 to 4 p.m.

Evelyn Vornsand, was perfect in a witch costume; Mary Johnson as a Grand Lady (both of these I didn't recognize); Mr. and Mrs. Lesak as real Indians; Harley Cox in a comical get-up, and others in comical and original costumes, added much to the Halloween Grand March! Mr. and Mrs. John Little, new members, are the names I omitted in my October list of birthdays, and my thanks to friend Frances Olexa for letting me know this so I could correct my error!

The by-law committee, composed of Chairman Ernest Hanka, Frances Olexa, Lad Bily, Carl Lindemann, and John Hilsher, are meeting often and working hard! Our Lodge 88 Glee Club is practicing on Christmas carols!

Frank Vytopil, member of Lodge Bedrich Smetana No. 39, Bryan, in 1961, and which had never received too much publicity. We took the award off the wall and asked the recipient and donor to pose for us. I lean over backwards to accommodate, but when there is no word by phone, letter, or attendance at the meetings, you leave me no alternative, so please keep this in mind.

VASTNf SOKOL HOUSTON Dear Members and Friends: We will serve a delicious Czech turkey dinner on Sunday, No. 21st, followed by a free dance with musical entertainment furnished by the Lad Pavelka Orchestra. As you will remember, Lad Pavelka played at the Sokol Circus last month. This is our observation of Thanksgiving Day and it promises to be a fun-filled day. Bring the family for a weekend of entertainment. Our Czech cooks will bake the turkeys only as they have been taught by their mothers and grandmothers by using especially prepared seasonings to bring out the delicious turkey flavor. We will also serve mouth-watering dressing and carefully prepared tasty vegetables. Don't miss this one! We will serve only one turkey dinner per year.

Last week the S :okols formally started their task of collecting monies to finance the new athletic center. During the week of the Sokol Circus we received 20 per cent of our goal and we were very delighted to see the interest the public is showing in the new gymnasium and social center. The pledges we have received and our calculation of the persons who are willing to make loans equals about 50 per cent of the financial goal; however, we still are seeking notes for the other 50 per cent.

We know that all members and friends have not been approached, but anyone willing to make us a loan or donation should contact any member because we need your assistance. We have also received numerous donations and these will be acknowledged in a souvenir book to be issued at our opening date.

The goal to collect all funds has been tentatively set for February so that a building can be completed by early spring. There is a lot of work to be done in the next few months and only by a joint effort of all our supporters will we be able to meet our goal.

Our Friday night drills are still increasing in attendance as most of you have seen — 60 to 70 children and adult drillers on one night in our present gym is a crowded condition. It only shows the great interest the public has placed in physical fitness and we still want everyone from 6 to 60 to join us.

Remember turkey day on Nov. 21st.

Wednesday, November 10, 1965 LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON SWIMMING POOL BENEFIT FESTIVAL A great Festival is planned at Lodge 88 in Houston on Sunday, Nov. 14th, for the members and their friends. All proceeds will go to the Swimming Pool Fund, a project which has for a long time been the dearest to the hearts of all the Juniors of the lodge as well as their parents and the entire membership. Everyone is working together for a Great Day of fun and pleasure for the entire family, starting at 11 am. with a delicious Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings, home-made cakes, pies, and kolaches. At 2:30 p.m. the Junior Dramatic Club will present a 3-act comedy, "Maid of Money," for everyone's laughter (and they are truly a grand troop of actors — all suited for their parts); while the little ones will have their fun in the Youth Club Room. with lots of booths and games. At 5:30 there will be a Social (same as on Thursday night), for everyone's pleasure.

Door Prizes will be given by the Juniors between the first and second acts.

Anyone wishing to donate pastries of any kind will be a helpful member.

Here is your chance to help out and have a huge get-together with your families and friends all day at the lodge home and have a picnic of a time.

Remember this is all for the swimming Pool, so let's all do our share.

JOSEF WYCHOPEN PASSES Josef John Wychopen, 96 years and 9 _nosths old, passed away in the Taylor SPJST Rest Home last Oct. 23rd, where he had been in residence for the past three years. Our readers will recall that Brother Wychopen had been awarded an endowed voucher at the Rest Home this past March 21st. (See Vestnik, dated April 7th, 1965). He had attained the age of 96 on March 14th, and was presented the voucher by Supreme Lodge President, Edward L. Mar ek, and Supreme Lodge Secretary Raymond A. Urbanovsky. He was the ninth member of the SPJST to receive an endowed certificate at age 96. He held membership in SPJST Lodge No. 40, Hillje, where he had been a charter member.

Brother Wychopen was one of the pioneers of Fayette and Wharton Counties. Prior to taking up residence in Taylor, he had resided with his daughter in Austin, Mrs. Raymond Prasatik and her husband. He had also lived in the Taylor area in the twenties. Bro. Wychopen was a member of St. Austin's Catholic Church in Austin.

Funeral services were held Oct. 25th from the Condra Memorial Chapel, with a Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor. Rev. George Tydlacka of Granger officiated, with burial in the Assumption Cemetery in Austin. Rosary had been recited Slin-

day evening in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers were R. J. Bartosh, John Hrncir, Dan Ruz.icka, Charlie Hranicky, Louis Bartosh, and Julius Kahanek.

Surviving Brother Wychopen are his wife, Annie Wychopen of Austin; two daughters, Mrs. Julia Dubil of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs.Raymond (Alice) Prasatik of Austin; a son, Harold Wychopen of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Julia Klimicek of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchilden.

Josef Wychopen was born march 14, 96 years ago near Fayetteville. He married the late Jennie (Kenvicka) Wychopen. Shortly after their marriage, he bought a farm together with his other brothers, John, Louis, and brother-in-law Frank Feb, and all of them built homes on their property near Hilije in Wharton County.

Not too long after these families settled in the Hilije area, they were instrumental in organizing SPJST Lodge No. 49, in Hillje with 18 other members, and built a nice lodge hail. Brother Wychonen donated the land on which the building was situated. lie had a grocery business adjacent to the hall, where the only drink served was soda pep, during the Prohibition Period. He also bought hay and rice for the government and shipped it to towns around the state in railroad cars. The railroad tracks and depot were situated directly across the street from his business, and this made it handy.

Shortly after, the lodge prospered and a new hall was brcilt, which serves the needs of the lodge to this 'day.

Meetings are held there, picnics, dances, etc., are held at the hall, The lodge has ever 699 members.

When Brother Wychopen's wife became gravely ill, he took her to Kerrville to several doctors, but all medical help was in vain. She died shortly after, and was buried in Fayetteville.

Josef Wychopen moved to Sagerton in Haskell County where he lived for two years. While in ;Sagerton, he married Miss Anna Dubil, a native of Granger, and they moved back to Hillje, settled on a farm and lived there ten years.

When their son Arnold died with the flu in 1919 while in the U. S. Army in San Antonio, he sold his business, quit farming, and the entire family moved to Taylor. After 13 years there, they moved back to Hillje, where they had previously built a nice home on the property adjoining the SPJST hall.

Harold now lives in Houston, and is a member of the SPJST. In 1938, Brother Wychopen moved with his wife to Austin, to be near their daughter, Alice, who is married to Raymond Prasatik, secretary of SPJ1ST Lodge No. 155, a post he has held since that lodge was organized.

Brother Wychopen had 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He had only one living sister, Julia Klimicek, who lives in Fayetteville in her nice home there.

Three years ago Brother Wychopen fell and broke his hip, and although the operation was successful, his doctor advised that he take up residence in a rest home, Be had lived in the hospital ward of the rest hofne for some time.

Funeral services were held from St. Mathews Catholic Church in Jourdanton Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Father Lieb officiating. Rosary was recited on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Lange Funeral Chapel.

Interment was in the City Cemetery.

During the festival a scrumptous turkey dinner will be served. Following the dinner, the joyful comedy, "Maid of Money," directed by Mrs. Birdie Hilsher and acted out by the Junior Dramatic Club, will be presented. There will be booths for the little children and enjoyment for everyone. The Junior Dramatic Club is crossing their fingers and hoping that many of our wonderful members and friends will come out and support this new club, and especially our Swimming Pool Fund. We are hoping it will be ready to swim in next summer, but we need everyone's help!

Advance tickets can be bou ght from many of our lodge members or the Teen Club members. Please come out and give us your support.

I would personally like to thank these people from the bottom of my heart: Karen, David, and Suzanne Dvorak from Fort Worth, Mrs. W. E. Hruska from Houston, Mrs. J. E. Dear Cectnik Readers, Last Tuesday we had our monthly meeting. There were 6 mothers who attended. The visitors were Mrs. Pete Fucik, Mrs. Fred Krpec, and Mrs. Jerome Dorotik. Judy Dluhos, Marian Dorotik, and Madilyn Merta recited a poem each. The door prizes went to Karen Kahanek and Tommy Dluhos.

The birthdays were Josephine Krpec, Clara Dorotik, and Kenneth Mrnustik.

There were refreshments after the, meeting.

Fraternally yours, Donna, Srubar, Secretary -SPJST--LODGE NO. 17, NEW T.ABOR Dear Readers, On Sunday, Oct. 31st, 1965, my family and 'I attended the meting of the lodges of District I, at which there was a discussion of the poor attendance at these district meetings. Personally, I believe that the children could help the attendance at the district meetings by urging their parents to attend.

Also at this meeting, Mr. Melvin Skrabanek of Lodge No. 17 was elected to the position of director at the SPJST Rest Home in Taylor.

If you remember, in my last letter, I talked about the Corsicana and Bryan football game for first place. Well, at this meeting Mr. Morris asked if John Vavra of Lodge 17 was present.

So, my grandfather stood up and Mr. Morris explained that he meant the John Vavra in the Youth Club. So, I stood up, not having the faintest idea of what he was going to say to me, and he said that he was sorry that Corsicana beat the socks off Bryan.

I had a nice time at the meeting and thought it was interesting and I guess that I had better close.

We rode in the back of a truck to town; it sure was cold. They all had fun, except there was some egg throwing, but no one from our group got hit. We rode in the back of the truck going back to the SPJST hall.

There we had a wiener roast. Afterwards records and games were played.

We all had a real nice time and would

like to thank our parents for bringing everything we needed.

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Nov. 14th.

We all had fun at our Halloween P a r ty . We played games and had refreshments.

Sunday, our family went to the district meeting at Bryan. Our youth club put on a special number. We all had a nice time.

LODGE NO. 30, TAITON Dear Vestnik, Last Saturday my daddy, Mr. Arthur and Clarence Priesmeyer came home from Colorado. Mr. Arthur and Clarence got some deer and elk. Daddy got a bear. We were all glad when he came home.

Yesterday we had our meeting. We discussed our Christmas party, which will be in December. We also discussed what we will have for the menu and what we will have for entertainment.

Items of Interest FAT BUCKS READY FOR '65 SPORTS Cheer up you big game hunters, and don't wear yourself out readying for the stalking techniques!

The Texas Parfks and Wildlife Department biologist, on location in the Hill Country, said prospects definitely are good for the coming deer season.

And the negative angles that stymied the 1964 shoot may not prevail again this fall.

This man is Rod Marburger, who headquarters at Kerrville.

He said deer just don't seem to be as spooky as last year when the herds, although over-populated in many areas, kept safely behind the unseasonable heavy vegetation and circumvented hunters operating from blinds.

Marburger said the difference in the summer may make the difference with the sportsmen's luck because deer generally had ample feed throughout last summer. This contrasts with the 1964 summer when deer were on short summer rations because of a drought.

Then came the lush fall growth from good rains, and the deer apparently gorged themselves and kept to the dense cover, safely separated from the baited areas and specially planted oat fields.

Now, said the wildlife biologist, deer just don't seem to be so jittery because of a normal summer diet, and definitely are in superb condition.

Marburger said the overdue killing frost in the Edwards Plateau country seems to be part of the mild fall pattern which has permitted leaves and other vegetation to provide more protective cover. But he doesn't consider that a major factor in the average hunter's- experience afield.

Prospects, he decided, definitely are good, both from a venison and trophy angle in the popular Hill Country range.

LICENSE NEED IS CHARTED Austin — Just when hunting and fishing licenses are required could confuse some people, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department judges from the 253 no-license cases listed on the monthly arrest report.

Most of the infractions involved fishing, since only 33 hunters were filed on for lacking a valid state license.

The Department decided a review of license provisions might be timely with the popular waterfowl and big game seasons approaching.

To the bereaved survivors of our deceased brothers and sis lets, the Supreme Lodge, SPJST, expresses its heartfelt sympathy.

R. A. Urbanovsky, Secretary Su preme Lod ge. SPJST The Department explained that among persons not required to buy the $3.15 hunting license are those under 17 or over 65 but they must have an exempt license if they are going to hunt deer or turkey.

Also not required to have the license are those hunting on land where they reside but they also need an exempt license for deer or turkey.

The Department added that persons not needing the regular $2.15 state fishing license are: persons under 17 years of age; persons fishing in their home county providing they do NOT use a winding device (rod and reel) and persons 65 years of age or older.

The Department noted in addition waterfowl hunters must have the regz. ular $3 Federal duck stamp and that

the only exemptions involving this stamp are persons under 16 years of age.

It was reported exempt hunting licenses total an estimated 180,000 annually.

REDFISII "GRAZE" ON PASTURE. LAND Rockport — High, seasonal tides along the middle Texas coast, helped along by Southeast winds, reportedly have scattered fish and made locating them difficult.

Redfish and flounder especially have utilized the high water to wander far afield Land where, a few days ago, cattle grazed is now the feeding ground for these popular game fish.

supervisor for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, reported redfish in the back bays and up every little creek and river as far as the high tides have pushed saltwater.

"Flounder," simmons said, "are really on the move. They have been caught in the surf and in the passes from the bays to the Gulf. Before long the spawning size fish will be moving into the deep waters of the Gulf to perform their annual reproductive chores.'

A current move in this country advocating unlawful means has been labeled civil disobedience. This doctrine is based on the startling theory that if one does not agree with a law and believes it to be morally unjust, he may disregard it to achieve a particular obi ective.

I think society, by and large, is unaware of the long-term implications oaf this creed, primarily because those who seek immediate and temporary solutions have obscured the future by a smokescreen of slogans and highsounding cliches. No matter what the goal, the fact remains that a peaceful healthy, orderly society cannot exist, now or ever, if each individual may determine which laws he is going to obey and which he is not.

The basic question is respect for law and due process and whether dispassionate justice is to be rendered.

To my mind, there are two frigthening aspects to civil disobedience. One, sowing contempt for law and order and promoting pride in lawbreaking among the nation's youth can only result in an acceleration of our serious crime problem. In some quarters, it already appears that the social stigma formerly attached to lawbreakers is being replaced by sympathy for their actions

and an irrational hostility to law enforcement.

Secondly, where is the line to be drawn against the snowball effect of civil disobedience? Willfully disobeying misdemeanor statutes today and committing, felonies tomorrow is a logical regression from a government of law to an anarchic society.

There is no question but that the right of dissent and the right to petition for redress of grievances are absolutely essential to the security of a free people. But the very life of liberty requires that these rights be asserted in a lawful manner. Civil disobedience and the unwillingness of many to resolve their differences by established legal means will surely lead to the destruction of the instillations which protect their freedoms.

Four of the first eight hunting fatalities were youngsters, all 15 or under.

They included two 15 year olds, one lad 14 and one 11.

Preliminary reports indicate unfamiliarity with shotguns caused at least three of the four deaths since they were shot by guns in the hands of other lads.

In the two latest accidents involving teenagers, a 14-year-old was shot with a gun used by a 12-year-old. In the o' her, a 15-year-old was killed when he stepped in .a hole causing his gun to be discharged.

Two of the four adult victors reported this fall died of self-inflicted wounds. The gun of one discharged as he climbed through a fence and the other's shotgun discharged as he took it from a car, muzzle first.

The Department expressed concern over the accident trend as the major hunting seasons approach, particularly the deer season which attracts persons of all ages using all kinds of guns.

It was suggested that adults responsible for youngsters should at least provide a course in safety and preferably also accompan y the armed young sters afield.

Dne 24. listopadu 1884 se provdala za Joseta Valchate a odstehovali se do okresu Colorado, ku Oakland, kde byli v najmu po nekolik let. V roku 1889 zakoupili tarmu pii Oakland, kde sestrb Valchatova, byla u syna na to same fume, kterou jeji syn nyni vlastni.

Manaelinn Valchatovkm se narodilo 12 deli, dva syni a 10 deer, z nich 6 zemtelo.

Sestra Valchatova ma 9 vnoudat a 20 pravnoudat.

Manaele Valchatovi byli zakladatele tadu Bile, Hora Cislo 16 a zakladajiei eleni na gi Jednoty. Sestra Valchatova, byla jedinou zakladajiei elenkyni tadu Bila Hora na aivu. Vetginu deti s manaeli a manaelkami, vnuci s manaelkami a vnoueky s manaely patii k tadu BHA Hora Cislo 16 SPJS.T. Manaele Josef a Terezie Valchatovi v2dy byli u zakladani novkch deskkeh spolku, jak facia Bile, Hora, tak spolku Cislo 33 RVOS a prvnim tajemnikem jeho.

Hlavni fftadovna vyplatila sest•e Valchatove v hotovosti jeji dogivotni pojigteni v listopadu 1958, kdy se doaila 96 let stati. V listopadu tohoto roku by se doaila 103 let.

A tak jsme vyjely po busu z Mobile, Alabama. 7. iijna, do Dallas jsme dojely 8. iijna v Best hodin rano. Sestienka a netet uz na nas Cekaly; po dobrem snidani a extra kafiCku jsme si sedly a hovotily o nagich rodinach a na gich milkeh, kteti ua mezi nami nejsou. V sobotu byl velkk football game v Dallas a tak my zase jsme jen besedovaly, jedly a Si povidaly.

V nedeli brzy jsme v gichni staly, aby jsme se ptichystaly a byly hotove jet do Coliseum na Oeskk program, neb to byl nag "prvni", co jsme se sbeastnily.

Jen k Cas utikal a my se museli rozloudit se v gemi krajany a s tou "veselosti", a jet domil k sesttence, tam jsme povedetely a nastoupily cestu autem do Wichita Falls, se sestrou a gvagrem p. a pi.
