PROGRESS

The 19th General Convention of the SPJST, held in Waco in 1964, set up a special three-man committee called the "Operations and Analysis Committee" to ". . . examine and make recommendations at the 1968 convention on how to streamline our convention proceedings and the entire procedure of our entire Order." Shortly after that motion was made and adopted by the delegates, Supreme Lodge Treasurer Jos. Koliha spoke in favor of buying land for a new home office build-. ing and constructing a new office building and in favor of disposing of the present building. A motion was then made and adopted that Brother Koliha's recommendation be referred to the newly-established three-man Operations and Analysis Committee. The three members of this new and special committee are Frank Olexa, Houston (chairman), Melvin Skrabanek, Caldwell, and G. Louis Kudrna, Ennis.

We should so live and labor in our time that what came to us as seed may go to the next generation as blossom, and that what came to us as blossom may go to them as fruit. This is what we mean by progress.

The Operations and Analysis Committee recently announced that it will hold its first meeting in Houston on Sunday, Sept. 26th. It herewith officially invites the membership to send them their recommendations relative to the matter of a new Supreme Lodge office building, its location, and all matters relating to it. Members, or

—Henry Ward Beecher lodges, may also submit their ideas on how to streamline our convention proceedings and operations of our Order in general. The membership should, however, keep in mind that the Operations and Analysis Committee will deal only with the areas specified in the last convention, and should therefore not make recommendations having to do with changes in the by-laws. We have a by-law committee for that, and such recommendations must be handled in the manner prescribed by the present by-laws. If a ledge as a whole wishes to make a recommendation to the committee, that will be likewise considered. Any and all such proposals should be sent to: Mr. Frank J. Olexa, 6402 Taggart St., Houston, Texas. If your recommendations do not reach the committee by Sept. 26th, there will be ample opportunity to send in such recmmendations at any time in the future and they will be considered

by the committee the next time they meet. 'This is a new committee and although the mandate is specific, the area to be covered is rather broad. It goes without saying that any concrete proposals should be backed up with facts and figures, if at all possible. The committee will be acting without previous precedent. They must commence some place, and the membership has this pportunity to share in their deliberations. • • The State Talent and Queen Contests are over. All the districts were well represented, and if you were not there, you missed a fine display of talent — and of poise and beauty. Miss Susan Ilse, candidate from District VI was crowned the new State Queen of the SPJST. Runner-up was Miss Sherrie Kubala, candidate from District III. We congratulate these two fine young ladies on being the winners. We likewise congratulate the other five queen candidates for their initiative, courage, and display of sincerity. They were "winners," too. • • In the issue of the Vestnik of last June 2nd, 105, pp 3-5, our readers will recall our article on the Czech class at Rogers High School.
