District II is sponsoring a trip to "Six Flags Over Texas" for the yOuth of that district on Sunday, June 27.

The youngsters should get in touch with their lodge youth leader immediately, or District Youth. Director, Sister Emily P. Mikeska, Rt. 1, Rogers, Texas. , Horace Lee Manning, 66. passed away April 28th, in the VA Hospital in Temple. Burial was in the Bryan City Cemetery in Bryan. Brother Manning was a member cif SPJST Lodge No. 9, Snook. e Elmo J. Hutzler, 52, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan on May 6th. Interment was in Glenwood Cemtery in Houston. Brother Hutzler was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 17, Cald well., Novosad Reu:nion The annual Novosad Reunion will be held Sunday, June 6th, in the KC Hall, in Bryan. Charles L. • • Beyersville May Fete Postponed The May Fete at Lodge 48, Beyersvide, originally scheduled to be held Sunday, May 16, has been postponed to Kunday, May 30th, because of the torrential rains on the 16th. Details this issue.

LILLIAN KRUSE plays the part of "Manka," who criticizes Lelek for the way he recites poems and then becamcs more surprised when Lelek proposes to her. This play is a comedy in three acts. It's funny, it's serious, it's laughable, and a play you will long remember. Bring your friends and enjoy this play in air-conditioned comfort. Be a part of your lodge and support its activities.

(School Valedictorian) Clarence Marusik, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Marusik of Edinger, is valedictorian of Fayetteville Rural High Sichool. His grade average was 94.625. Clarence is the three-year member of the National Honor Society, of which lie serves as president, He is also a four-year member of the ,.'FA, and a two-year member of the German Club and serves as president of both.

Be is also on the staff of the "Bluebonnet" (school annual) and the "Lion Roars" (high school paper). He participated ill school athletics, including basketball and baseball.

Clarence is a member of SPJST Lodge No. 51 in Ellinger, as are his parents and brother, Larry.

IODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Friends, The big day is almost here — the day when we have the opportunity to see a good Czech comedy in the beautiful Chandelier Ballroom of Lodge 88!

Yes, it is this Sunday afternoon, May 30th at 3 p.m. when the curtain goes up and you can sit back and relax with the air conditioning adding to your comfort and enjoyment! You won't have to worry about dinner or supper, for good Czech food will be served from 12 noon on throuahout the day and evening. There will be a dance after the play to further enjoy yourself!

This hilarious Czech comedy, 'Posviceni na Divoke Vsi" will be presented by the Dramatic Club of our lodge; it has some mighty good actresses and actors, several of whom have been in plays for years. Three of the actors in this first play to be given in our new building — Frances Olexa, Tim Kostom and F. A. Kadlecek — were also in the first play in the old hall on Robbie Street in 1935; and also in the last play at the old hall in 1964! Our Dramatic Club has steadily progressed through the years, and people come from near and far to see their plays! So don't miss this chance to see a good Czech play in cool comfort!

President Tim Kostom informs me that our Glee Club with its special quartet are gqing to sing at the Czech Day Celebration at Wallis on June 13th. The members are looking forward to going to Wallis, and we at Lodge 88 are looking forward to

Viola Cox wore a beautiful pale green orchid and the givers, Bonnie and Donnie ,beamed! Frankie Sembera helped Harley Cox and Oscar Helmcamp set up more tables on the dance floor!

Don't forget the Thursday Social nights, our Saturday night dance with the popular "Danceables" of Houston furnishing the mutsic, and the Czech play!

The Pledge of Allegiance and Lodge Pledge was given by Norma Hensel, Cynthia Moore, Kathy IVfoore, and Johnnie Engelke. Visitors were Mrs. E. M. Schiller, and Mrs. John Kutni. We were glad to have you come out. We always enjoy our visitors.

Roll call of dfficers showed that all officers were present.

Sister Rose Parma read the Minutes of the previous meeting and they stood approved as read.

A very nice "Thank You" note was read from Bro Otis Ceska.

Bro. Frank Parma reported on the trustees' meeting. They decided to come in the afternoon and repair the bridge which was damaged by the recent rains. We also discussed the clean-up day. It was set for June 12, in the afternoon. Drinks and lunch will be furnished by the lodge, so let's all come out and pitch in and we can 'get through early. The more• people who come out, the sooner we can eat and go home. Remember June 12!

Sister Libbie Parma reported for the Youth Club. She was pleased with the turnout for the end-of-School party

that was held for the graduates and their guests. She thanked the chaperones who, came out and helped . They were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parma, Hr. and Mrs. Leon Hensel, and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hanus.

Sister Parma thanked the ones who brought cakes; they were: Gene and Frances Miller,, Alan Hensel, Linda Henkelman, and Beverly Gaidusek.

She asked that all the Youth interested in Youth Activity Day to please call her for information on the king, princess, duchess, and duke contests, and on the other contests. She has the rules and a pplication blanks now. This all has to be decided on before th.e June meeting. So please, all of you, call Sister Parma.

Birthdays for May were: Leslie Dungan, Emil Hanus, Louis Kazda, Rosemary Mynarcik, Richard Urbis, Peggy Lucille Martin, Toby Harrus, Garry Moore, Jerry Karlik, and Larry Matus.

We sang "Happy Birthday" to all of them and we wish all of you a happy birthday.

The Sick Committee reported that Sister Bartos is in the hospital with a broken arm and pelvic bone and is in serious condition. So please say prayers for her and visit her. She is one of our Charter Members.

Sister Polly Gaidusek had to return to the hospital for an extended stay, but came home Sunday. Polly, we hope you are feeling fine and let's hope this Will be the last trip. Take it easy, now.

Sister Aline Leggio is in the hospital for surgery. We all hope and pray that it is not serious, and please remember her With prayers, visits, and cards. Cheer up, Aline, we all are wishing you a speedy recovery.

Bro. Otis Ceska is at home and is doing line now. He still has to be careful and take things easy. We all hope you keep improving Otis, and will get to come out soon.

Sister Mary Sue Moore is doing fine and we were so glad to see all of you out again. We have missed you so very much.

The date for our next meeting will be June 6, at 2:30 p.m. Our attendance was very small Sunday due to the very bad weather. We could have used boats.

We hope we will have better weather next time, and the bridge has now been repaired. It is raining again this morning but maybe it won't rain as much this time. It will clear up soon, and we will have sunshine again.

Door prizes were won by Louis Matus and Norma Hensel.

Remember the next meeting: June 6, at 2:30 p.m. and "Clean-Up Day" June 12. Let's all come out and help.

LODGE NO. 9, SNOOK Dear Members and Friends, Here it is time again for me to remind all of our members and visitors of Lodge No. 9 that our next meeting will be held on the first Sunday in June at 2 p.m. A basket lunch is being planned at 12 noon, and we would like to invite everyone to come out.

Our District Youth Director, Sister Matejka, promised us a visit to discuss youth activities in District I. Fraternally, 011ie Jakubik - -SPJ TO ALL LODGES IN DISTRICT IV Keep in mind that the annual District IV meeting has been set for June 6, 1965, at Rowena, Texas. Let's have all ten lodges represented this year.

The youth of District IV can enter three different contests. The rules for these contests have been printed many

times in the Vestnik, and they have been sent to each lodge. Let's have some entries from some of these ten leaders. I would like to hear from the lodges that plan to enter so that I can plan the program beforehand. I would hate for some queen not to have a corsage, became these thin gs have to be planned.

District IV offers some nice prizes in all three contests.

Also be thinking about camping for our youth in District IV. We need some ideas on this new projec.t It probably may take time to work our program out since we are scattered over such tar distances. Let's plan to try to carry out our camping program.

You do not have to have a Youth Club to take part in these contests or camping program, only be a member of the SPJST. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write me, I will try to answer as soon as possible .

I am hoping to see all 10 lodges present, the Editor, Supreme Lodge officers and their wives present at our District IV meeting, June 6.

Brother Hejny held an organizers' meeting at Rowena on May 12th, and it was a wet one. It rained all during the meeting. The attendance was small because of the bad weather. The meeting was informative, as only Bro. Hejny can do it.

I hope you people at San Angelo and Rowena have had enough rain for awhile. We are still dry here. It looks like rain every day, but it never does.

DALLAS Dear Brothers and Sisters: Due to the rain and wet weather, our last two league games have been rained out and will be played and made up at a later date.

Our next game will be Wednesday night, May 26; game time, 8:30 p.m.

Our opponents will be the Lone Star Gas Co. team.

On Saturday night, May 29 our annual'Softball Team Benefit Dance will be held at our newly-remodeled lodge hall at 2625 Floyd St., Dallas. The popular Music Masters Orchestra has been engaged to play your favorite polkas, waltzes, and popular numbers.

Dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m. and conclude at 12:30 a.m.

We cordially invite our members, friends, and neighbors to attend our dance. The team needs your support, so do come and bring your friends and help us make this dance a huge success.

A Columbia smoked ham will be given to some lucky person. So mark your calendar and make plans to attend our special dance on Saturday night, May 29th. We will be glad to have you and hope you will be there.

An application blank is in the Vestnik for your convenience. You may also use a sheet of paper with all the information as it appears on the blank.

You may turn it in to your youth leader if yeier lodge has one; if not, you may mail it to me. Remelnber that we need one chaperone far every use children, so parents who are interested in their children going, pick up some other children in your lodge, and maybe another chaperone and come and go with us. I know you will enjoy the trip.

Deadline for going to 'Six Flags Over Texas" is June 6, so hurry and fill out the blank and mail it in.

Dear Brothers and ,Sisters, This coining Sunday, May 30th ,the Dramatic Club of fabulous SPJST Lodge No. 88 is presenting the first Czech play in our new lodge. The play, called "Posviceni no Divoke Vsi" ("Country Wake"), will begin promptly at 3 p.m. A delicious goulash dinner will be served, beginning at 12 noon.

VESTNfK Following the play a dance is scheduled for your dancing pleasure. The players have been rehearsing for the past 10 weeks, and I hope many members will come to see this hilarious 3act Czech play. All persons who attend will enjoy the play because it will be performed in complete air-conditioned comfort. No one will be able to complain that it is too hot, or that they can't hear the players on the stage. It is hoped that the sons and daughters will set aside this day and bring their mothers and fathers who like Czech plays. Bring them to our beautiful new lodge for which they worked so hard in the past to give us such a completely modern lodge building. Facts around Lodge No, 88: Kervin Jacog gave his wife, Louise, all the credit for his impeccable appearance at all our dances. The Blue Room Club in our lodge is well on its way to becoming a reality. Jay Wilkerson, Bobby Dobesh, and Brother Courtney are now collecting the dues from the members and it should be open in the near ,Puture. The sudden and untimely passing of our beloved board member, Alvin Horcica, a few weeks ago, was mourned by all our members. .He indeed was one Of the faithful few we had at our lodge. The board of trustees approved the new wing that is to be added to our new lodge building. Steve Kelly had a very good idea as to how we should improve our lodge meetings. The social nights each Thursday night for the membership and •their guests are becoming very popular as the weeks go by. Al Grebnick, the Midwest's favorite orchestra of Schuyler, Nebraska, will play at our air-conditioned chandelier ballroom for three consecutive nights in the near future.

Members are asking when the entertainment committee will start taking reservations for these three special nights. Ed Kadlecek, 11. Baethe, and spaceman Johnnie Mikulas, just completed a temporary storage building in the rear of the lodge. Thanks to Mickey Rice for trying to be helpful with some of the lodge administration work. Wow! Some 230 members attended the last monthly meeting. Hopedale, Labrador Dear Editor Morris: I thought I would drop you a line to show my appreciation for the fine work you and the Vestnik personnel have done the past year. I really look forward to seeing the Vestnik in my box every week, that is, if the weather permits and a helicopter can bring the mail up to us. For the past year I have been stationed on a small radar site in northern Labrador, about 200 miles north of Goose Bay. Your paper has filled many of my lonely nights here on the hill.

I can hardly wait to get back to civilization and take an active part in Lodge 35, Elk. I will get my discharge in June.

Wednesday, May 26, 1965 LODGE NO. 80, HOLLAND Dear Members and Friends: Well, here around Holland the farmers are talking about planting rice and going into the duck business, although this is not rice country. It's been raining here for the past 5 or ,6 weeks, so the two above items would fit well into the farming picture at this time.

It looks like the farmers are going to lose their small grain crops due to the excessive rains.

And now, something besides thie weather. As the saying goes, "You can talk about the weather, but there is nothing you can do about it."

The membership in our lodge has picked up considerably since we bila our new hall, especially the past three months. I do hope we can continue to increase our membership. (Organizers of Lodge 80, take note).

On 'Sunday, May 30, we are having our 16th annual picnic, (all day). This has always been a very successful occasion here at our lodge. I want to extend a cordial welcome to all our SPJST membership and friends to come and be with us on that day. We will serve plate lunches — plenty of good beef barbecue on plates, or "to go"; various games will be played; plenty of refreshment, and free dancing in the afternoon. There will be a big dance at night; music day and night by Joe Patek and the boys from Shiner.

Here's hoping we can shake your hand on May 30th.

—John McCrae Yes, on Memorial Day, when we at home are at peace, our thoughts will, do, and must stray back to those who have departed, and, we hope, are now resting in that everlasting sleep of peace. Let us remain faithful to those who gave their all in wars so that we may live in a freedom-loving country, and to those pioneers who laid the indestructible foundation of our SPJST, and similar fraternal organizations. On that day, Memorial' Day, 1965, we should remember Lexington, Valley Forge, Francis Scott Key, and the "Star Spangled Banner" and what the words really say, Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, the heroes of World War I and the Argonne, and finally, December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor that started World War II. The night before December 6, 1941, my buddies and I had been discussing how we were going to go to Fort Monroe, Va., on December 19; take a 2-year concentrated college course in 90 days, and be out in one year, in April, 1942!

In Fort Bliss, El Paso, that morning of December 2, it was sunny, but the future was dim.

I often wonder if we have really lived up to the request of these last three lines in the poetry written above, and are we doing so now? We are not here as a permanent fixture, but are just loaned to each other for awhile!

Let us resolve to do all the good that we can to each other while fate allows us to do so.

This letter Will come as a surprise to some of my fellow members who have me pictured as a hardbitten, unswerving, down-the-line perfectionist, but there is a soft place in "ole Rudy's" sentimental heart, regardless. My mind often, not only on Memorial Day, goes back to the ones who have departed; to the shrines that I have visited; to the fellow members at whose funerals I have officiated, 42 of them in the

9 six years that I was preident of • Lodge 88. A few tears welled in my eyes, not long ago whe y. I is ad Bro. Kosut's letter reminisein ,.,: of file days past. I played in many pla . s with his son, Frank On Memorial Day, I hope to drive to the SPJST section of ' Brookside Cemetery here in Houston and place some flowers on the grave of my father, Josef ,Sefcik, Sr. Who taught me so much about how to be righteous, regardless of the consequences. My eyes, misty by now, will stray around me at the graves of so many of our other departed members. My thoughts will also stray to the two graves of my two Army buddies who lie in an Army cemetery in Germany. How I would like to place some token of remembrance on their graves. They are not forgotten!

There are so many people wanting to name things after our late President J. F. Kennedy! What is the best monument we can give him? Our memory of his righteousness!

In the afternoon, I plan to go see the Czech play at Lodge 88, which is just one more way that we are keeping faith with our forefathers.

Introduction of officers of the Supreme Lodge were made by the Dist.

VII President Bro. Valchav, and they were: Bro. and Sis. Edwu . d L. Marek, Bro. and Sis. Joe Koliha, and Bro. and Sis. R. Urbanovsky.

10 District Organizer, Bro. Roy Hranicky; State Youth Director Bro. Jim Kucera, Sis. Maxine Pavliska, Dist. VII Youth Director, and Bro. Chas. Holasek, Dist. VII Director, were also introduced. Bro. Nick Morris, Editor of Vestnik, was also present, ready with his camera to take pictures for the Vestnik. Officers of Dist. VII were all introduced.

District VII was presented a $50 check from the Supreme Lodge by Bro. Roy Hranicky. A motion was made by Bro. Koliha that this money be used for an organizers' luncheon at a later date. Bro. Frank Elsik seconded the motion. Motion was approved.

Supreme Lodge Youth Director, Bro. Jim Kucera, made an address praising the youth and asking for continued support and cooperation of the youth and youth leaders. Bro. Kucera stated that members still don't read the Vestnik about camping and youth activities. There is so much unfinished business in this and it has to be decided by the Supreme Lodge. Material has been mailed to all youth leaders in the state; you are responsible for the youth on camping trips, historical trips, etc.

Sis. Maxine Pavliska accepted the Youth Activity Day if Lodge 107 approves of her acceptance. Next meeting place was requested by Bro. Hrna Of Lodge 107 on Oct. 10, 1965.

At this time, Past Dist. VII President Frank Veselka and wife ,Carrie, were recognized.

Bro. Hrna, treasurer of Dist. VII, gave a complete report, which showed $177.20 in the Youth Fund and $90.62 in the General Fund.

Bro. Marek in his talk stated that there are two new directors, Bro. Sid Pokladnik of District III, who succeeds Bro. Robert Cervenka, who for 40 years worked faithfully for the Order; the other is Bro. Hanka of District V, who succeeds Bro. Skrabanek who also worked loyally with the Order for 20 years. Bro. Marek stated that the 13 men on the Board of Directors can never be of one accord but must be able to yield to find the middle ground in solving problems ifor the best interest of the Order, which is always going forward. $12,000,000 will be surpassed in insurance sales this year; a gain of $680,000 in assets. He had high praise for all the organizers who are working so faithifully for the Order and their local lodges. The last four years the average age is 17 years, 6 months; over 50 per cent of all insurance policies issued in 4 years is

VESTNfl< 10 years and under. These are the youth who will be here the next 50 or 60 years. Ability of the adults to train the youth to work with you is essential because they have the basic education to make themselves a better leader of tomorrow. This year the youth won't be able to go to camps since we got started too late. Youth leaders have done good work and they understand the youth. I praise you publicly for your good work, and also, I must say that the district meetings are bringing us closer together.

Bro. Urbanovsky made a short talk to the membership. Brothers Zabcik, Kacir and Ilejny were unable to attend this meeting as they had other business matters. Officers of District VII were complimented for their good work; Bro. Holasek was also complimented for his work for the Order. At the last meeting of the Supreme Lodge, a motion was made that $50 be given to the district to be used as they desired. Bro. Urbanovsky stated that the investment of money has been made safely. The last convention cost $60,000; it could be shortened and save time and money.

Bro. Holasek said that members attend district meetings because they believe in the SPJST, The Order is growing in insurance sales and our policies are guaranteed; the Department of Insurance lists the SPJST as "tops." Many are taking out larger policies with other companies and not with the ,SPJST. Let's have confidence in our Order. There are four Youth Clubs in District VII, but it's up to the parents to get the youth to attend meetings.

President Val!char recognized the District VII organizers and they are: Bra. Sacky, S,is. Valchar, Bro. Holasek; Bro. Elsik, Bro. John .Hranicky, Sis. Viola Cahla, and Bra. Veselka.

At this time the nominating committee submitted the names of officers for the consideration of the membership. The officers Of District VII were all re-elected by acclamation and they are: Bro. Hrna, treasurer; Bro. Frank Sacky vice president; Bro. Roy Hranicky, 2nd vice-president; Bro. Pete Valchar president; Sis. Maxine Pa yliska, youth director, and SU. Betty Jurica, secretary Roll call was made by Pres. Valchar, showing ten lodges had representatives; seven lodges did not.

At 12 noon a motion was made to adjourn for lunch at 1:30 p.m. Motion carried.

At 1:40 p.m, meeting was re-called

Wednesday, May 26, 1965 to order by the president. Bro. Urbanovsky, Secretary of the Supreme Lodge, made the presentation at the pins to the 50-year members. As the names of each recipient was called, Sis. Kathryn Jurica of Lodge 117 escorted them to their places and assisted Bro. Urbanovsky in making the presentations of the pin. Those present were Sister Andela Cobb. a and Sister Alzbeta Holasek, both of Lodge 56.

Not present to receive their pins were: Brothers Frank Ciclenski, Lodge 107; and J. C. Mrazek, Lodge 152; Sister Marie Vanek, Lodge 133.

To the 50-year members, Supreme Lodge President Marek made a speech urn Czech and En glish, praising them for their accomplishments and faithful service over these many years. He told them . that they were the ones who were ahead of us who worked so hard in fraternal work. Bro. Marek wished the sisters continued health and happiness and many More years as fraternalists. He also spoke to the youth and told them that it is a proven fact that love Tor your fellowman, as you grow older, will make you understand him better and make better citizens of all. "I am glad that so many of you youth are takin g part in the afternoon's program," stated Bro. Marek.

He then presented Bro. Frank Sacky of Lodge 79 a plaque for outstanding fraternal work. Bro. Sacky is number one in sales in District VII. Congratulations to you, and may you continue in this work for many years.

Bro. Koliha praised the two sisters who received the 50-year pins and wished them the best in the future years. He also praised the youth leaders for taking time out in preparing this program and let's- respect them for coming and performing for us.

The youth of District VII treated the membership to a program of songs, musical numbers, dancing, pantomimes and recitations. These talented youth were introduced by Sister Joan Pa y -liskaofLdge107.Therw 47 children on the program which was well performed and enjoYed by all.

Following the program, the Pavelka Band furnished music, and preparations were made for a cake Walk.

The meeting was very successful and interesting. Many thanks to Lodge No. 117 members for their hOspitality and good food. With this, I conclude the minutes of the District VII meeting.

Vehicles from Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas can be seen among towering pines, covering 18,000 surface acres of fishproductive waters. Lake 0' The Pines is already becoming known to more than 21/2 million people. Forest and streams combine happily to help per-

petuate the enjoyment of nature and outdoor living.

Caddo Lake State Park includes fishing waters, docks, launching ramps, cabins, and camping facilities.

Unique areas of natural phenomena abound in the wast white sandhills at IViionalians Sandhills State Park. With a lavish hand, nature dealt her wonders to Texas: weathered volcanic peaks, along scenic delves in the Davis Mountains, near Davis Mountain State Park. 1,000 miles on the other side of the state is the Texas National Forest in East Texas. The four National Forests, named to reflect the history and geography of East Texas, are: Sam Houston, 158,000 acres; Davy Crockett, 161,000 acres; Angelina, 154,0000 acres; and Sabine, 183,800 acres; total: 658,000. These state parks offer camping sites for tents, trailers, and sleeping bags. Screened shelters, air-conditioned cabins, individual and group camps, and lodges offer wide park use. There are picnic grills and tables, snack bars, counter service, and completely equipped restaurants to suit individual tastes.

Goose Island State Park prides itself as being just priimitive enough and still modern enough to satisfy the most fastidious visitor. Up to now it is the only developed state park along the Gulf Coast and is also very accessible.

It is just off Highway 35. The park has great historic significance, because it is the site of "Big Tree," the mighty oak, now protected by a heavy metal fence. It has a girth of 32 feet, a height of 80 feet, and a 140-foot crown spread.

Its age has been estimated at between two and three thousand years.

One of the leading attractions is the surf and genuine beachcombing. There is ample picnic and camping room, shaded from wind by oaks. This is a favorite area for groups The park is on the mainland and adjoins three coastal bays, St. Charles, Copano and Aransas. The salt-water attraction is strengthened by the 13 open camp shelters. Prevailing breezes sweep inland from the cooling water. Swimmers, fishermen, and campers predominate.

Not too far away are the ancestral wintering grolunds of the whooping cranes on Blackjack Peninsula, which is well stocked with prowling wildlife, including deer, turkey, and javelina.

Goose Island State Park is indeed one of the outstanding natural showplaces of the state park system.

Youth Section ATTENTION, YOUTH OF LODGE Na. 47, SEATON District II is sponsoring a trip to "Six Flags Over Texas." Money has been allotted for this purpose. All Lodge 47 youth going on this trip should let me know by May 28th, so that appropriate plans can be made.

There are many deadlines we must meet. All youth are welcome, from ages 6 through 21. All will be chaperoned.

Date of the trip will be sometime in June. Let's all get together and go!

Judy Dluhos opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Anita. Krpec read the prayer. Secretary Donna Srubar called the roll of the members present and read the minutes of the meeting.

Mrs. Pete Merta, Jr., read a poem. to all the mothers who were present.

Visitors were Mrs. Mike Krpec, Mrs. Sylvian Dluhos, Mrs. Pete Merta, Jr., Mrs. Lad Srubar.

Madilyn Merta reveived a letter from the Czech Catholic Home for the aged.

Mary Jo Dluhos won the door prize.

There was one new member, Miss Gretchen Ilse.

I took part in the Minor League baseball games. I play on the Packers' team. Coach Blackie Roy is my coach.

I have practices on Tuesday and Saturdays. My positions are pitcher, first base, and centerfield. My first game will be on Thursday, May 20th, at the Little League Park at 6 p.m: Hope we Win. I enjoy playing baseball.

I would like to remind all the Taiton Youth Club No 30 that our regular monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 1965, at the Taiton Community Center around 4:30 p.m.

The 17th, which was Monday, I had my piano recital, and at school we got awards for being in the spelling bee and reading different kinds of books and making reports on them. I didn't get the spelling award, but I got a reading certiticate.

In the 4-H, I was in the "Favorite Foods" show. All the girls who were in it got a red ribbon. I also went on the school bus to the district contest.

Our friend, Marian, came over. Then we went swimming. The water was cold; it was coming right out of the ground.

Dear Readers, We will get out of school this Friday.

In a way I will be glad, and in a way I won't. Mother said she's gaing to make me help her wash the windows.

Daddy is getting his vacation the first week in June. She said we cannot go anywhere until we have all our work done. We might go to Corpus.

I hope so.

How does everyone like this wonderful rain? I really like it, Our tank is

VASTNfK running over. Daddy, Mother, and I went fishing after dinner. We got wet but we enjoyed it because we picked up some fish that washed out of the tank. Some were pretty big. That was lots of fun. Daddy and Mother fixed the tank so they won't wash out anymore. They both got wet as chickens, but Mother didn't care; she enjoyed it. That's one time I didn't have to have a hook to catch a fish. It's still raining.

Last night we went to the dance at the SPJST Lodge No. 39. We had a real good dance. Everything turned out fine. I danced all the time. My Mother and Daddy had to work. They didn't mind it. I hope we go again next Saturday.

Be sure to come to our meeting next month, June 13. We will be glad to have anyone come. You all are welcome.

Dear Readers , He had our last meeting May 9th.

After the meeting we had a program. for our mothers. After the program we had refreshments, Then we went outside to play baseball and other games.

At night we went to grandmother's and played checkers, and ate popcorn while my parents went to visit a cousin in the hospital.

Our next meeting will be held on June 6th at the hall. Our lodge will have a dinner that Sunday also. I hope everyone will come out and have a lot of fun. My daddy promised to help fix our volleyball net so we could play Volleyball.

A morayskena HoleSove se narodil prisluSnik mannheimske Skoly — Fran-' tiSek Xaver Richter. Wade v eechach bylo i rodiSte dalSiho z mannheim-, skYch Antonina Filse, atd. aeskYch hu.debnich emigrantti v XVIII. stoleti mnoho. Odchazeli z, existenenich, naboknskych a politic-' kYch clavodti jak do Ruska a Polska, tak do Pruska a zapadniho Nemecka,; do Italie i Francie, do Vidne 1 LondY-, na. Mnozi z nich se naveky zapsali do' clejin svetove .hudby — nejen Stamic: a Mysliveeek, ale i Benda, Dusik, Rejcha, Stich, Koleluh, bratri Vranieti,' Jirovec, Kramar, VoriSek a jini. Co by se dalo vkchno vypraveZt o jejich osudech, o jejich praci skldabach, ba u nanohYch i o jejich slavnYch Z'acich!

Mel 11 deti, dve z nich byly muzikanty, jeden syn malifern. Jan Va-' clay byl vychovan eesky a studoval na g,ymnasiu v Jihlave. Nekdy kolem rokU 1741 odeSel z tech ' a po velkem chu ye Frankfurtu nad Mohanem, kde vystoupil jako houslista vynikal take ye hre na violu d'amour, violoncello a kontrabas), vstoupil v roce 1742 do slukurfirta Karla Theodora v Mann-4

ITZ v roce 1745 byl Jan Vaclav Stamic ustanoven koncertnim roistrem a jeho pasobenim se stal mannheimskY orchestr jednim z riejslavnejSich a Mannheim sam vedle Vidne a Parite vYznamnVin hudebnim stiediskem.

Stamic tam pusobil at do roku 1757, kdy 27. brezna predeasne zerarel. TN leta predtim dostal roeni dovolenou a podnikl umeleckou cestu do Parite, ktera, byla jeho velikYm osobnira triumfem, a to nejen jako virtuosa na housle a violu d'amour, ale i jako dirtgenta a skladatele.

VetS'ina historika XIX. stoleti se domnivala, te tvarcein jedne z nejdaletitejSich hucleebnich forem orchestralni klasicke symfonie— je Josef Haydn. Podrobne zkoranani skladeb mannheimskYch ukazalo, te za skuteenehO tvarce symfonie musime vSak povatovat Jana Vaclava Stamice. Nebot' byl to prave on, kdo meal poprve dasledne uplatnovat y e sy eal orchestru pro yacleni symfonii o etyrech eastech, tedy v takove podobe, v joke je pak nachazime u Haydna, Mozarta, 1 Beethovena.

Pravda, i u Stamice se jeSte vyskytuji vYjimky; nekterym jeho symfoniirn chybi etvrta finalni Cast, jive maji dva menuety apod. AvS'ak zakladni roz y rteni symfonie na etyri easti je predevSim jeh ohistorickYin einem, prave tak jako zavedeni taneeni \rely — menuetu — do symfonie. Na prvni poslech je dobre znat napr. u menuetu z G dui symfonie op. 3, C. 1 CeskY charakter -Leto hudby, cot dokazuje, Etamic ani v emigraci neztratil lidovY a narodni charakter sveho hudebniho citeni a vyjadroani. Ostatne Stamicova "prvni", tzv. "paritska symfonie" je pozoruhodna nejen svou treti easti — menuetem.
