Jegte malou vzpominku na na geho krajana br. J. Kotrlu. Br. J. Kotrla rodak z Vala gska pitel do Texasu piimo do Houstonu, kratce po mem prijezdu v ro ce 1913, napted na skuSenou sam, jeho Zena phjela za nim za dva roky pozdeji spoleene s pi. A. 8ramkovou a jejich dve ma deveatky, RtiZenkou, Matenkou za tatinkem do Dallas. 8ramkovi take pochazi ze Vsetina, tou dobou zde dela ponejvice krajany z ValaSska.

Kotrlovi zilstali v Houstone, nekolik rokfc, vlastnili tam restaurant v Crosby ale pfestehovali se zpet do Houstonu kde se Orme podileli na eeske praci osadni tilavne spolkove. Prispivali svoji praci a hlavne vZcly peeivern a jinYmi pokrmy do kuchyne. Oba byli dobti kuchafi a dobli a srdeeni lido. Br. Kotrla velmi rad tancoval. Kcly2 me pfede gleho tYdne mote pfitelkine pi. The parents and the students of Czech descent don't realize the tremendous advantages they possess if they have even only a . slight;'SUPerficia.1, and spotty knowledge of the Czech languege. The Slavic languages are very difficult, but the first few hurdles are behind a student who used it to some extent at home. It is an accomplishment to learn another language, the same as it is a result of long practice and training to master a musical instrument.

Only it doesn't have to be so expensive if parents would see it in that light, and encourage their children to pick up another language at home.

The article in the Dallas Morning News may reveal to the parents and to some ambitious youngster the road to future achievement. There will be more and more demand in the United States and throughout the world for people who can talk to Russians in their own language. The article reads as follows: RUSSIAN EXPERTS TRAINED AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY The Russian language department of the University of Washington is a training school for fighters on two of the most active battlefields of the "cold war"—propaganda and intelligence.

A steady flow of students, well-equipped with Russian words for weapons, have joined the ranks of the Department of State, Central Intelligence Agency, military branches and science since the early days of World War II. The University of Washington, with one of the nation's finest Russian departments, is the only Pacific Northwest higher education institution offering extensive Russian-area studies. District Seven M The Seventh District of theSPJST fraternal lodges met Sunday October 13 at the H-H Hall in Jeurdanton for an ail-day meeting and Youth Program.

In order to cover this meeting, the colitor and wife got up at 3:30 in the morning in order to arrive by starting tithe-. at 10:00 a.m. It's a long way down there! Shortly upon our arrival the meeting started.

The good sisters of La Parita Lodge 161, were alre21cly busily preparing the noon meal, and as the District President accepted the gavel from 'President of La Parita Lodge, a st stream of folks was coming in LrothErs.: Merck, Chupick, Navratil, I;:olnia represented the Supreme Lodge While some of the members of Districts 3, 5 and 6 were also present at the meeting. Brothers: Sid Pokladnik of District 3, Otto Harms and wife of District3, August Kacir and wife of District 2, I believe; J. T. Skrabanek of District 5 and Ig. Senkyrik and wife of District No. 6 were present. .• With the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flog, led by Miss Dorothy Jurica, the eminutes of the business of the last meeting of this District were read and -,approved.

Br. Ed. Marek then spoke of the pioneers of our Order nand the achievements of the past 60 years. He also delivered greeting& from our Supreme Lodge Vice-President, Br. Joe B. Hejny Who is ill with the flu and our Br. Urbanovsky who is visiting his father.

He made Comparisons of a regular inSurance selling company and our frat'ernal lodges with their brotherhood.

Br. Marek pointed out that: "From a membership of 800 to the 28,000 membership of today, someone had to work."

"Our youth like to work with us and they like to came among us and it is up 'to the older Members to work with to :ii end, ge believe that today we shall sce how our youth works and develops with us. Our youth will progress if you teaCh them." Br. Marek continued, "It means, that we must offer them our hand to come and work among us." Br. Marek further bid us all to talk SJPST 'Yat every opportunity. He also asked us to be ready en masse to write our legislative representatives when those bodies start work on the taxation of 'our fraternal orders in our state.

Br. Chupick who spoke next, remembered our old workers who are falling out of our Order. "Everytime we meet, there is one or more less among us," Br. Chiipick remineseed, sadly. "If it were not for our late Brother Kubena, our

fraternal order would not be here tot Br. Kubena clay for all the hardship encountered in the beginning." Then he told of the old pioneers and the hardships involved to scrape the premiums to keep those policies active; to illustrate, he recalled the time a renter's son on his father's fare accidentally spilled lye into his eyes and upon consultation in San Antonio, a trip which took sonic time in the wagon conveyance, the doctor told the father that his son's eyes might be saved with an learned that the operation would . cost $150 upon which the father paled and sadly turned homeward stating that he just didn't have that kind of money and didn't know where he could get it. Upon his return home, the young Br. Chupick told his good mother what had happened and the beneficient lady told her son to saddle up after supper and tell their renter that the money would be provided for his:soil's operation.

Young John rode to the farm and called and called and could not bring out the tennant father. Finally after calling loudly into the night, the father came and afer being told of the $150 loan, broke down and confessed to him that had he come bilt five minutes later he, the father would have been found hanged. That was how desperate those times sometimes were for our Czech folks to support our Order, when a dollar was a great deal of money to them.

Brother Chupick then reiterated what Br. Marek previously stated about the pending legislative bills that are expected to arise regarding fraternal orders.

It was the moved that a rememberance of the meeting sent to Dr. Mimilka who has been ill for some it's-.4e, The assembly also learned that the Corpus Christi Lodge was in full swing of organizing their "Youth Club." it was also learned that the La Parit y Lodge 161, has purchased an abandoned school house when two school districts consolidated, very reasonably, and are remodeling it for their Lode Home. Our heartiest congratulations to these quick thinking brothers and sisters for grabbing such a splendid opportunity as this one provided to be for a Lodge Hall. Ma y you have many, many happy Lod ge activities of your DA embership as well as of your Youth in this Lodge Home and may you continue to grow until your Home grows to small and you will have to enlarge it because of all the new membership. May you also serve as an example to other lodges in your district who do not as yet own their Lodge Hoa,es. as a sample of what brotherl y love and cooperation can do.

After a session of unfinished business after lunch, the meeting adjourntd for the Youth Program, under the direction of the District Youth Director, Mrs. Betty Jurica of Corpus Christi, Texas, for which the editor and wife were unable to stay as the afternoon was fast ending and we had to get to the dangerous spots in the road under construction and widening, before it was too dark on the way back home. Therefore, we would ap p reciate very much if the good Sister .Turica. would send us the -program for publication. We had been up since 3:30

It was most pleasant to again see so many of our old family friends, to reminesce of better days, of loved ones, greet visitors and make new acquaintances, and we shall look forward to again seeing you all m the future.

outh Le Everywhere HOW TO IMPROVE my COMMUNITY IS TOLD IN NEW BULLETIN

Do you experience a . feeling of pride as you scan the familiar sites in your community or is there restless dissatisfaction because you see so much that could be improved?

Rural folks all over Texas have been making this community and evaluation and many have seen the need for improy ment. In fact, over 800 neighbors have organized, net goals and have begun to achieve them. An estimated 2,000 small towns in Texas could benefit greatly by taking part in an organized community improvement program.

A leaflet recently released 'by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, "My Community — How Does It Look," suggests some of the projects that organized communities in Texas can carry on which will result in lucre attractive, healthier and more prosperous places in which to live. No list of goals could meet the needs of all because each COM munity differs in its physical assets and opportunities. However, some good starting ideas such as church activities fund raising projects, community projects, community projects, community centers, neighborly deeds and opportunities for youth, are discussed.

This leaflet can be a big help to any leader of organized community effort.

He was born Sept. 25, 1869 in Austin County. He came to Bell County when a young man. settling in the Oker community where he lived until 1943 when he moved to Temple. was a member of the Oker church and had been a member of the SPJST since 1903.

Br. Zabcik is survived by three sons, Joe Zabcik Jr. of Dallas, Adolph Zabcik of Jacksonville, Fla., and Robert Zabcik in the Navy in Spain; five daughters, Mrs: Annie Gaeke of Temple, Mrs. Fannie kruska of LaGrange, Mrs. Dan Juren of Effinger, Mrs. Clara Spratt and Mrs. Tillie Kelly, both of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Mrs. Verna. Bubela Zabick, died June 29,1943.

Wednesday, October 23, 1957 IN MEMORIAM Of our Brother Frank Slezinsky, 77, Member of Lodge No. 50 and admitted to our Fraternity, May 13, 1906.

Frank Slezinsky died at his home in Kingsville at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

Mr. Slezinsky was a resident of El Campo from 1903 to 1920. He was a tinnith by trade. He is survived by his gife, three daughters, two sons, five grandchildren and seven great grandgrandchildren.

Catholic services and burial were held Monday at Kingsville.

Among those attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. RobertSlezinsky, Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. West, Mrs. Raymond Hailing, Mr. and Mrs. John Foltyn of El Campo, and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Foltyn of Simpsonville.

Date of burial, Oct. 5, 1957. Funeral .services were held at Holy Cross Church with Rev. Joseph Valenta performing the funeral rites. Burial was in Holly Cross Cemetery at East Bernard.

Mrs. Faltisek, nee Helen Keprta, was a kind and loving lady and mother of a large family. She came to America at the age of 9 years. The family settled first at Hungerford, Texas. She married Emil W. Faltisek at Hungerford Aug. 8, 1923 and the couple settled at East Bernard where she spent the remainder of her life with her family, husband, one son and five daughters. Five girls were elected to compete for the title and the honor of being Queen.

I was fortunate enough to have been one of those girls. My congratulations to you, Queen Carole Ann Nemec. There is no one more worthy to bear the title of Queen than you yourself. You have worked very hard for our club and I am very happy for you.

The night was truly a night of regal splendor and sheer elegance. We were all treated in a very royal manner. The dance was a success and I know that everyone who attended it enjoyed the dance very much.

Even though the dance was a success, it would not and could not have been such if it were not for the generous people who made it so. Neither would I have had so much good fortune

Soon the rock began to crumble and fall to pieces. In a few moments it was reduced to a heap of sand. In the sand something gleamed like fire. Keen picked it up and handed it to the prince. It was a lump of pure gold.

"Ha, ha!" said the prince. "You are a fine fellow and worth more than wages! I should be a fool not to take you into my service. Since you have such keen eyes, look and tell me how much farther it is to the Iron Castle and what is happening there now."

"If you rode there alone," Keen answered, "you might get there within a year, but with us to help you, you will arive this very day. Our coming is not unexpected, either, for at this very moment they are preparing supper for us."

"What is the captive princess doing?"

"She is sitting on a high tower behind an iron grating. The magician stands on guard."

"If you are real men," the prince cried "you will all help me to free her."

The three comrades promised they would.

They led the prince straight through the gray rocks by a defile which Keen made with his eyes, and on and on, through high mountains and deep forests. Whatever obstacle was in the way one or another of the three comrades were able to remove it.

By late afternoon they had crossed the last mountain, had left behind them

the last stretch of dark forest, and they

saw looming up ahead of them the Iron Castle.

Just as the sun sank the prince and his followers , crossed the drawbridge and entered the courtyard gate. Instantly the drawbridge lifted and the gate clanged shut.

They went through the courtyard and the prince put his horse in the stable, where he found a place all in readiness.

Then the four of them marched boldly into the castle.

Everywhere — in the courtyard, in the stables, and now in the various rooms of the castle — they saw great numbers of richly clad men all of whom masters and servants alike, had been turned to stone.

They went on from one room to another until they reached the banquet hall. This was brilliantly lighted and the table, with food and drink in abundance, was set for four persons.

They waited, expecting some one to appear, but no one came. At last, overpowered by hunger, they sat down and ate and drank most heartily.

After supper they began to look about for a place to sleep. It was then without warning that the doors burst open and the magician appeared. He was a bent old man with a bald head and gray beard that reached to his knees. He was dressed in a long black robe and he had, instead of a belt, three iron bands about his waist.

He led in a beautiful lady dressed in white a silver girdle and a crown of pearls. Her face was deathly pale and as sad as the grave. The prince recognized her instantly and sprang forward to meet her. Before he could speak, the magician raised his hand and said: "I know why you have come. It is to carry off this princess. Very well, take her.

If you can guard her for three nights so that she won't escape you, she is yours. But if she escapes you, then you and your men will suffer the fate of all those who have come before you and be turned into stone."

Then when he had motioned the princess to a seat, he turned and left the hall.

The prince could not take his eyes from the princess, she was so beautiful.

He tried to talk to her, asking her many questions, but she made no answer.

She might have been marble the way she never smiled and never looked at any of them.

A hundred miles from here is a forest, in the midst of the forest an ancient oak, on the top of the oak an acorn. This pjincess is that acorn. Let Longshanks ke me an his shoulders and we'll go get her."

Lon,gshanks picked Keen up, stretched himself out and set forth. He took ten miles at a stride and in the time it would take you or me to run around a cottage, here he was back again with the acorn in his hand. He gave it to the prince.

"Drop it, master, on the floor."

The prince dropped the torn and indantly the princess appeared .

As the sun came over the mountain tops the doors slammed open and the magician entered. A crafty smile was on his face. But when he saw the princess the smile changed to a scrowl, he growl ed in rage, and bang! One of the iron bands about his waist burst asunder.

Then he took the princess by the hand and dragged her off.

That whole day the prince had nothing to do but wander about the castle and look at all the strange and curious things it contained, It seemed as if at some one instant all life had been arrested. In one hall he saw a prince who had been turned into stone while he was brandishing a mord. The sword was still uplifted. In another room there was a stone knight who was taken in the act of flight. He had stumbled on the threshold but he had not yet fallen. A serving man sat under the chimney eating his supper.

With one hand he was reaching a piece of roast meat to his mouth. Days, months, perhaps years had gone by, but the meat had not yet touched his lips.

In the morning, at noon, and at supper-time the prince and his companions found a rich feast prepared for tnem.

Unseen hands served them food and poured them wine.

Then after supper, as on the preceding night, the doors burst open and the magician led the princess, whom he handed over to the prince to guard for the second night.

Of course the prince and his men determined to fight off drowsiness as this time with all their strength. But in spite of this determination again they fell asleep. At dawn the prince awoke and saw that the princess was gene.

He jumped up and shook Keen on the shoulder.

"Wake up, Keen, wake up! Where is the princess?"

Keen rubbed his eyes, took one look out of the window, and said: "There, I see her. Two hundred miles from here is a mountain, in the mountain is a rock, in the rock a precious stone. That stone is the princess. If 'Longshanks will carry me over there we'll get her."

Longshanks put Keen on his shoulders, stretched himself out until he was able to go twenty miles at a sltride, and off he went. Keen fixed his glowing eyes on the mountain astd the mountain crumbled. Then the rock that was inside the mountain broke into a thousand pieces and there was the precious stone glittering among the pieces and there was the precious stone glittering among the pieces.

They picked it up and carried it back to the prince. As soon as he dropped it on the floor the princess reap peared.

When the magician came in and found her there, his eyes sparkled with anger, and bang! the second of his iron bands cracked and burst asunder. Rumbling and growling he led the princess away.

After supper the magician brought back the princess and, looking fiercely at the prince, he sneered and said: "Now we'll see who wins, you or. I." This night the prince and his men tried harder than ever to stay awake.

They didn't even allow themselves to sit down but kept walking. All in vain.

One after another they fell asleep on their feet and again the princess escaped.

In the morning the prince, as usual, was the first to awake, When he was the

Women's Nook CULAK LODGE NO. 1G5, MOULTON, TEXAS Dear Readers: The , wonderful September rains have already turned the countryside into a veritable Eden and have brought such radiantly lovely cool days and nights So- that we can surely be thankful for "Oric)ber's bright blue weather." Unmindful of the hubbub and stir that the man-made satellite "Sputnik" has caused, the stately goldenrod, the sunny sunflower and the modest baby blueeyes are vying for supremacy along the roadside and byways. Hummingbirds busily gather honey from the festoons of deep pink heavenly vine blossoms that are now in all their glory. Yes the easilygrown. heavenly vine — how it can transform the lowliest, humblest, cabin into a thing of beauty! The yellow belllike blossoms of the espera-nza too are a source of honey for the busy little hummers and how I love to see the bumblebee tumbling in and out of the graceful bells. Truly, autumn is the best time of the year!

Sausage and stew with all the trimmings are to be on the menu and if I understand right, it shall be eaten to the tune to some well-known music. Games and concessions will be offered the public for their amusement. Supper will be served, beginning at 5 o'clock. Our financial secretary, Mrs. Edith Beran, was not able to be with us at the meeting today as her infant son, Robert, has been quite ill. However, we are rejoicing with them that he is Progressing very favorably now. Woodrow Joost, a member of our lorge, who recently underwent a major operation at the Veterans Hospital is now recuperating nicely at his home here. His only complaint is that he is constantly hungry now. Another beloved member, Mrs. 011ie Moczygemba, is still in San Antonio in the hospital, most of the time in the iron lung, However, her family seems to be very pleased with the progress she is making and they are, hopeful for her recovery, though they are resigned to the fact that it will be a long while, as all polio cases require time. We have been having a -lot of company from late summer until the present time, at different intervals. Brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces come at various times and how we do enjoy their presence. What a. rejuvenating feeling it is to have the tots spilling all over the premises, exploring every nook and cranny, getting •acquainted with every flower, tree, bird-nest, and what have you!

When it is time for them to leave, we reluctantly have to part with them and we are left with our pleasont re.memberances of their visit Mr. Editor, please don't reprimand me for not writing -sooner arid more often.

Mortgage Holdings The Institute of Life Insurance reports that mortgage holdings of life insurance companies in this- country have more than doubled in dollar amount since 1950. At the close of 1956 the total was $32.98 billion.

Significantly, the largest concentration of mortgage investment by life insurance companies is in California, $4.28 billion; next is in Texas, $3.56 billion. Other Southwest states, in millions are: Argansas, $234.5; New Mexico, $218.6 Louisiana, $659.2; Oklahoma, $629.2.

Although Texas ranks second among the states in dollar volume of more holdings by life insurance companies, it ranks seventh in amount of life insurance in force.

REPORTS FROM LOCAL LODGES ABOUT OUR REST HOME Requested Translation of Br. Hugo Sefcak's Letter Dear Brothers and Sisters: I have had an opportunity several times to visit our SPJST Rest Home in Taylor, Texas, to observe the progress made in its construction. Two of my visits were occasions of grief for me and Mrs. Schefcak as I attended the and funeral of my cousin Eddie Schefcak and another time again the funeral of our beloved niece, the lovely young daughter of my brother-in-law, Frank Svadlenak, past vice president of our SPJST Order.

My Lodge, Jaro 130 in Dallas, in its meeting of October 6th, appointed me to write a few lines of inquirey into the Vestnik regarding the proger&s, of our Rest Home in Taylor. Please understand that I am not criticizing individuals, or the Rest Home Committees, on the contrary our Lodge Jaro 130 is satisfied with the monumental task and but we want to point out to them some suggested corrections and give them our thinking for consideration.

In spite of inclimate weather, at the beginning, the progress of the construetino of this beautiful edifice is coming along admirably. and to my thinking this is an excellent location for our brotherhood's project. Even if some of our outstanding fraternal leaders at first were against the founding of the Rest Home in our Temple convention, like good Americans and honorable men, they fell in line with the majority in this noble undertaking with all their hearts and soul, which only a few of us could match. That is our democratic way of life.

The last time I saw the Taylor project in its advancement in construction and planned furnishings, I almost fell in love with it, everything is so very clean, modern, that it is a pleasure to look at it. All the rooms will be air conditioned and in the center of the building a place for reading and recrea tion. Outside there is plenty of room for gardens, fruit trees, even chickens. Our Lodge is grateful to the Committee that picked this place that they heeded our suggestion not long ago in our Vestnik that our SPJST Rest Home should have at least five acres of land around it.

It. has more and so much the better.

Sisters and brothers, here is our big problem. Who shall now manage this Rest Home for us. In the last meeting of the Committee, Br. Steve Valcik of Houston was appointed its manager for a period of six months for a monthly

remuneration of $400. and also his living quarters furnished. After that time we shall have to find a permanent manager for the Rest Home, one that will make our Rest Home a brilliant achievement for us or a mountain of grief and headaches. Here we don't need a scholar with a degree in a brother or sister, here we need one with patience, devotion, honesty and a untiring person with sympathy in his heart for old folks, some knowledge of business, recreation, preparation of meals, some knowledge of nursing for there will be some sickness occasionally.

My Lodge Jaro 130 would like to submit to the Rest Home the following suggestions — if they don't acknowledge their worth, there will be no harm done and no feelings hurt.

1. Work up some Rest Home by-laws, rules for running the Home. (I understand something of this sort has been contemplated already.)

2. Elect a President, Secretary and Treasurer among you in order to save the expense of travel and daily pay, since the Rest Home site is already realized.

3. Announce in the Vestnik that the Rest Home is looking for a permanent manager, giving definite salary, living quarters, and what experience and knowledge is expected of him.

4. Announce in the Vestnik that we are ready to accept applications of members for the Rest Home; and give a definite monthly cost per person.

5. Invite our Vestnik. Editor to attend so that our membership could be properly informed of the state of things as they develope.

Fraternally yours, HUGO SEFCAK P.S. How can we expect the Rest Home Committee to give us pertinent Rest Home information when they have no by-laws by which they are to operate? I have heard complaints around me that our brother Treasurer of the Rest Home doesn't give us any information, facts and figures on how we stand thus far financially in regard to the three funds that he holds: Building, Furnishing and Moucka funds. When I visited Temple recently, I asked Br. Navratll why he doesn't give us this information. He answered: 'Why don't you trust me?" I have known this good brother a long, long time and I personally know that he would rather forfeit his right hand than misapply one red cent that does not belong to him; that has nothing to do with faithlesness, but here the.memhership wishes to know

just how we stand in the collection of the above named funds at least every three months. My personal business experience tells me that our Rest Home cannot be run over the long distance telephone from Houston or Dallas, that someone has to be there to personally see after his "chicks" if the management of the Rest Home is to run smoothly and be self sustaining as we all expect it to be. _) 4. 0 ( From Far-Away Okinawa Dear Vestnik Readers: I sure do like the big new "Youth Program" you've started in our paper.

Never before have I seen such an inte. rest in youth shown by our Lodgt. I'm glad to see it, maybe they'll be "able to draw more youtig people into our SPJST instead of driving them away. I've also noticed the increase of kids not of Czech origin in our youth activities. This is good too, as they will be able to see and learn more about us, to take, part and understand those "foreigners" down the street. Yes, it all adds to, good citizenship and we can finally say our, SPJST is doing its part to switch over to this right track.

The objects of our district are: 1. To unify all lodges and members of the district.

2. To aid in securing all benefits and priVila,es far members of local lodges, protect their interests, elevate their intelligence, advance their general welfarcoexalt their character and increase thcir ability.

3. To establish uniformity in the methods of enforcing the , by-laws and principles of brotherhood.

All alterations and amendments, made by any local lodge or member of the dit.riett shall be in Writing and shall-he filed With the secretary of the district by-claw committee not later that 90

Article 4.

After adopting an official copy signed by the chairman and secretary shall be deposited with the district secretary.

Article 5.

The district secretary delivers one copy of the by-laws to the secretary of all respective local lodges.

Article 6.

The influence or sympathy of the district as a body shall never be enlisted or used in favor of any religious or political organization, and no member shall be perthitted to discuss in any manner in meetings any religious or political matters, or criticize the religiouS belief or political affiliation of any member.

Article 7.

SPJST by-lawsand Robert's Rules of Order shall be the recognized guide on all questiOns which the district has no rules to meet.

Article 8.

These by-laws become effective 1957 All new by-laws, changes and amendments become effective thirty (30) days after the annual district meeting at which they were adopted.

Every local lodge, regardless of how many members, shall elect, one representative (speaker) and alternate to the district meeting in ample time to be recorded by the district secretary4., SECTION III Meetings and Quorur Article 1.

The district shall have not less than two (2) meetings each calendar year, one of them g as a festive gathering combined with youth program.

Article 2.

The annual meeting of the district shall be held in the first half of each year, but no later than in the month of May. Article 3.

The district shall convene in a meeting always in such city as may be determined upon before adjournment of the preceding district meeting.

Article 4.

A special district meeting for consideration of questions of vital importance which may arise, may be called by the chairman: a when it is the wish of two-thirds of local lodges, b) upon request of district officers with with written consent of two-thirds of local lodges. In this case the district secretary shall submit a ballot to all local lodges for vote upon the question of holding a special meeting.

Article 5.

At least thirty (30) days notice in writing must be given to all local lodges of the district, indicating time and place of holding such special meeting and the purpose for which it is called No other business except that specifieg in the call shall be sonsidered or trans acted at such special meeting.

Article 6 A spec . al meeting shall have all the powers end authority of a regular (not annual) meeting, and shall be called within shortest time r.essible, but not later than thirty (303 days after the re. suit of the ballot has been declared.

Article 7.

Wednesday, October 23, 1957 District meetings may be conducted either in the Czech or in the English language, as may be determined by the majority vote of the members assembled in the meeting. It is Vee privilege of apeakers in such meetings to express themselves either in Czech or in English.

Article 8.

One third, of all local lodges present shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

All members of local lodges in district seven shall be entitled to vote on all matters coming before the district meeting, except election of district officers, and nomination of district director, alternate director, member of bylaw committee, alternate to by-law committee, or any district representative, what shall be the privilege of lodge representatives only.

SECTION /V. District Officers Article 1.

The affairs of the district shall be managed and between meetings transacted by the following district officers: chairman, vice-ehairman, secretary, and treasurer, in cooperation with the district director, alternate director, and district organizer.

Article 2.

The election of these officers shall be held in the annual district meeting each year. The officers shall be elected for a term of one year. No officer shall serve more than two (2) terms.

Article 3.

No member shall hold more than one office, and no more than one member of each local lodge may be chosen and elected as district officer.

Dallas Sokol News Now that the competition meet at Chicago is behind us, the Children are all anxious to start our regular drilling classes.

Our various committees for the new building got together at our recently purchased land site, to determine what landscapeing to do and placement of the building on the land. Three of the members are making individual drawings for the building, these are then to be brought together and a plan for the actual building (best suited for our purpose) be made from these three.

We are looking forward to a barn dance to be held Oct. 26 with an "imported" western band and square dance team. Our usual polka and waltz music will be played in addition to the country style music, The Operetta planned for Nov. 10 has been postponed because of insufficient time to prepare it, but in its place we will have a barbecue and picnic at the new site.
