VOLUME 58 — NO. 37

SEPTEMBER 16, 1970

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK NEWSELASH . . . The new State Royalty selected at State YAD in Elm Mott at Lodge No. 66, Sunday, September 13: State Queen — Patsy Kaiina of Lodge No.,58, Hungerford, District Vi, and State King — Theodore (Teddy) Ousels, Jr.. of Lodge No. 17, New Tabor, District I. • An explanation is needed. In the January 1, 1969 issue in his first editorial, your editor stated that I will sometimes make mistakes: however, if I do, I assure you that I am humble enough to correct them. That was and is the case. In the August 12, 1970 issue, page 2, column 3, the bottom Newsbrief states, in part: via Lodge 111's Starliner Super Constellation . Danny Stalmach of Fayetteville . . . First, a correcton was received that Danny S,Lalma,h is not from Fayetteville, but is a member of a SPJST lodge near San Penito and a nephew of Bro. John Kolaia of Ne•d ille. This was sent in by Bro. J. J. Stalmach of Smithville, and a correction was not requested. Since we are at the task of making corrections we will make this one also. Second: In the August 26 issue, page 8, in the second picture is Brother Dick Werner (111), president of the Harris County Sheriff's Junior Mounted Posse, who visited here in West on August 9, and informed us that he had invested money in the Holiday Wings Flying Club, which

MEMORIES Dedicated to the memory of those of our loved ones who- have gone to their eternal rest. The memory of someone dear Is like a thing of gold That never dulls, nor ever rusts, Nor grows the least bit old. 'Tis like a bit of bright sunshine That fills an empty rootn, Or like a lovely flower That never fails to bloom. It offers consolation In the face of strife and stress, And adds a certain beauty to Each dream of happiness. The memory of someone dear, However long apart, Is like a soothing, melody That lingers in the heart! leases the plane, In the same issue (August '2:8) page 1, column 1, under Features (ton of column) it is stated,_ in part: SPJST Lodge 111 has put money into Holiday Wings . . . This clipping was taken from a newspaper and was written by a non-SPJST member, we understand. Be that as it may — Ledge No. 111 HAS NOT invested any lodge money in Holiday Wings nor the plane itself. There are a number of members of Lodge 111 who have invested their personal funds in the club, and consequently are members

of Holiday Wings. All of this is on an individual basis and has no connection with Lodge 111 or the SPJST. Brother Jarda Cerny said: "We have over 1,000 members in the flying club and some of us are members of Lodge 111." Without giving a thought that the article, which appeared in the Houston Chronicle's 'Zest' supplement, could be misleading, your editor printed it as received, knowing himself that Lodge 111 had not invested in this club. However, this has caused some misunderstanding and we offer this explanation and apology. We hope this clarifies the articles and represents the facts as they are.

Wednesday night, at 10 p.m., we received the sad news that your editor's brother-in-law, Edward Vlha, husband of our older sister, Agnes, had passed away in Crosby, Texas. The funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, September 11 so our family went to Houston Thursday night and came back Friday at 6:30 p.m. In his case, death probably was welcomed for he had suffered terribly the last few weeks, and he had almost begged for the agony to end. We are very grateful to Brothers Kopecky and Ripley and the printshop for helping out in our absence on one of the busiest days. Quite understandably, our time was limited even for•an editorial. Sister Agnes Viha and son, Edward, are members of Lodge N.
