Sunday, July 19, in El Cam po, at the District VI YAD was seen a nice attentive- audience and a fine group of enthusiastic youth. One of their leaders refers to the fine sportsmanship displayed by the entire group and we can only state that that certainly was true! When Sister Kalina was announced the queen winner, a great fine fraternal shout came from ALL the youth, including her competition. It seemed that, secretly, all were 'pulling' for her. If our readers will recall, her sister, Cieraidine had a disappointment last year arid her sister, Patsy, came to El Campo with her spirit and chin up in 1970 and won! The SPJST is indeed fortunate to have youngsters of that type as members. And, mind you, the judges knew nothing of the 1969 mistake. Sister Brdecka and all who handled the rectification of this incident so diplomatically are to be complimented, as well as Patsy. The fathers and mothers and grandparents who were at the YAD are to be complimented for their honest, abundant and attentive support of their youth. This makes a YAD much more enjoyable and worthwhile.

PEACE By Edith Tatum Since you left me I am restless with longing. When I waken, the harsh call of a crow Shatters the crystal calm of the dawning A thousand discordant emotions come with the day. My soul seeks peace as a leaf downdrifting Floats into a still forest pool . . But only your hands are peacebringing, Only your p resence can quiet my soul. Have you ever thought that actually there is no one from whom we cannot learn something, however different he may be from us; however, even, incompatible. Usually, when we speak of a person who has made an art of living, we think of things like culture, book knowledge and even of things like how to order a meal or value an antique. That is not what I mean. I once had a friend who rarely opened a book. He was too busy with a big, demanding family who had to be fed, clothed and educated, as well as possible, on a small income. He wouldn't have known a Picasso from a Monet, and music to him was only a cheerful sound. He loved the flowers in his garden and the birds in his trees, but his know-

ledge of these wasn't technical. His interest lay in life, in living it, and in giving to it. He was not a man who wanted only to take. Loving life as he did, and people — all sorts of people — he was an artist, in perception, and in his personal expression of the spirit within him. Sometimes I feel like the youngster who skips through his daily lessons, hoping merely to pass. Often I look back on a day, such a day as comes in August, during which I have been happy in the sun, or walked on the sand and heard the birds sin g, or smelled a rose, and talked with an old friend. Then I think, I didn't take enough from it, I didn't put enough into it, and I am saddened because this day will never come again. Let's stop hurrying our days and enjoy life more. Blessed is the man who is too busy too worry during the daytime and too tired to lie awake at night. • Cigarettes have been blamed for a lot of things—sterility, impotence, and even indigence. But there are no statistics to back these charges. However, the charge that there is a relationship between cigarette smoking and lung cancer is backed by statistical studies in this and other countries. People who interrupt conversations with comments or questions that interfere with the flow of thoughts are nui-
