We know that this soundS very repetitious, however, we do not know what is happening to our mail delivery and instal services because letters mailed on Thursday in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, or almost anywhere in the state for that matter, DO NOT get to West until Sunday or Monday morning. When we open them on those morning and find they have a date for ,some occasion for the next week, we endeavor to set, proof read, correct and print them Monday morning.

• • Mrs. Amelia Dongres of Long Beach, Calif., her sister, Marcella, and husband, John Gaidusek of Temple visited with us at the print shop Friday, June 19. Her deceased husband was editor of some Czech language newspapers at one time.

• • Brother Frank Eugene Sulak, age 48, died May 14, 1970 in the Polly Ryon Hospital, Richmond. He was placed to eternal rest in Rosenberg East Gethsemane Cemetery and was a member of Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28, East Bernard.

• • Bro. John W. Muenich, age 77, passed away May 18, 1970 in St. Joseph

BROTHER L. A. KUCERA Brother L. A. Kucera, a member Lodge No. 88 of Houston, was elected a Director of the Texas Savings and Loan League at its recently completed Annual Convention in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Texas Savings and Lean League is a State-wide trade organization representing 270 savings and loan associations in the State of Texas.

These associations have combined assets in excess of 71/4 billion dollars.

Brother Kucera, will serve for a term of three years and his colleagues by his election evidence unmistakeably the high esteem in which he is held.

This year she also won an Honorable Mention in the faculty award for math, and she still found time to be president of the Teen Club 1968-70, Lodge, Queen 1968-69, and treasurer 1968-69. She has been a member of Lodge No. 84 since birth and an active member the last three years.

Splash Day was a nice success and everyone had an enjoyable time. The barbecue dinner was delicious. Unfortunately we ran out around 3 pan. The outdoor Pokrok Beer Garden *, was a rela:',(ing spot for the outdoor lovers.

Brothers Jack Gill and Joe Miksch State 25 promised to have the beer garden open clueing the summer for special events.

Dear Members and Friends, A reminder that our next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the City Recreation Center in Robstown. We would like to see a good attendance of members and their families. The meeting won't take too long and afterwards the youth club will have a games party. Everyone is invited to come to p lay cards, dominoes, and even taroky if anyone wishes. Just bring your cards and dominoes and invite your friends to spend an enjoyable evening of family fun. There will be no admiSsion fee this time. Each member is asked to bring some sort of goodies, such as, cakes, pies, cookies, kolache, or any other kind of dessert.

The youth club members have many activities scheduled for the summer; Youth Leader Sister Thelma Hrncir will send a news letter to each family of the youth club members. There will be extra copies of the newsletter available at the meeting. If anyone would be interested in obtaining a contest is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 17 at a place to be art. p ounced. In the past years, the talent contest has been very good and this year is no exception.

Our treasurer gave his report. Financial secretary reported one family was drOpping their policy.

These are the members reported being in the hospital and out (some in and some scheduled to enter). Sisters Agnes Groze, and Anna Matcek; Brothers Herman Psencik, Robert Kuban, Jr., John Kalisek, and Royce Teyk1 in the service, stationed in Germany. It was learned he is a diabetic and will be returning home.

In the old unfinished business, Brother Kamas apologized for not having all the inforthation as he was requested, concerning the air-conditioning unit for the lodge hall. A motion was passed to let Brother Kansas and the Building Fund treasurer take care of the matter — purchase and have it installed before the next meeting. Possibly, before the 191,11, when members will have their monthly social.

The problem of securing a youth leader came up for discussion. There was no one to take the position.

Our District V Youth Director was our visitor. She outlined the fun and games planned for young and old at the barbecue on the 4th of July. There will be fishing, too. She hopes everyone will be there. She also said she hoped the youth were planning to participate in the district YAD. They are needed to make it more interesting to all. She planned a meeting with the youth club members for Thursday night, June 18 at 8 p.m. I agreed to help her for the time being.

uda and her husband, District 111 Organizer Alvin Nesuda, visited our meeting last Monday and she was excited about all the entries and assured us the program would go at a lively pace to hold everyone's attention.

The kitchen committee plans a good dinner. Barbecue and sausage, potato salad, pickles, beans, pastry, tea or coffee and bread. Pastry is needed, won't you make your favorite and bring it as you come? It will be appreciated.

New members are: Edwin Aclaincik, Brian Hendrick, Bobby Hendrick and Rudolph Sadecky. We welcome them into our lodge.

The sunshine committee sent getwell cards to Sister Adele Vlk, Brother Joe Mach, Brother Ted Dusek and Brother Joe Matus with wishes that each are resting comfortably.

Our sympathy to the Kucera family. May their brother have eternal rest.

Keep in mind July 13 — our next meeting. The youth and teen club will also meet on that Monday at 7:30.

Our picnic was a big success. Many members 'were present for the fun as well as playing on the oldtimers team, or just cheering them on. Our thanks to Brother Ben Jarma and Brother Bino Vrana who took so much time getting these fellas located, and appreciation of our membership goes to all who played such a fine game. Maybe the crowds at the Monday and Thursday night games will multiply. Folks just didn't realize what a great group represents the SPJST out on the field.

The 4th of July comes on a Saturday — which is also a dance date for us, at 2625 Floyd St. Many people will come in from picnics or fishing, tired and hot, so we extend an invitation to you to come as you are. What could be more refreshing than our cool hall and all of that cold beverage waiting for you, plus the Polka Tones furnishing good music. No need to go home and change, any style of clothing is appropriate for this one dance, 8:30 to 12:30. Bring your friends and family.

SOFTBALL REPORiJ' LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS Dear BroChers and Sisters, Monday night, June 8, we opened the second half of play in our Monday night league with to 2-to-1 win over Ford, Bacon and Davis. Wes Jaska was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8 batters in 6 and one-third innings and Lionel Schulz hurled the last two-thirds of the final inning, preserving the win for Wes and allowing no hits and whiffing one batter.'

Leading hitters were Tete Thomas and Lawrence Honza,. each with a double, and Leonard Droz with a single. Getting on base via base on balls were Torn Warren, three times, Pete Thomas, Lawrence Honza, and Connie Brennan with one each. Getting sacrifice hits were Jack Scott, Sonny Grant and Wes Jaska.

Thursday night, June 11, we did not do so good as we dro pped a 13-2 loss to Burger King. The team just had an off night and no luck whatsoever. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher and several of the runs were unearned.

Leading hitters were Albin (Bino) Vrana with 2 hits, and Pete Thomas, Alex Parma, Lawrence Honza, Leonard Drozd, Ben Jarma, and Lionel Schulz, all had one hit apiece, Connie Brennan walked twice and Leonard Drozd once. We actually had 7 hits and all we could manage to get was 2 runs.

At this game, the Ben David family came by and cheered for the team. It was good to see them again, since Ben was one of the originals of the softball team at our lodge. I am sorry 'we didn't play as well as we are capable of playing. Also present at the game were the Walter Fredrichs, the Bob Wrights, the Jerome Rejceks, the Willie J. Ondruseks, plus most of the

Wednesday, June 24, 1970 wives of the players. It was just like the good old days when the team started playing in 1954. After the game, most of the group, the players and wives and children had a social get-together and enjoyed some beverages and visiting together. It was a pleasure to see all of the fine members at the game and hope we can all get together again real soon.

As for the schedule of our second half games—I still haven't received it.

I can tell you this much though: On the following Monday nights We play at Lawnview Diamond No. 1 and the next three Thursday nights, at Samuel Grand Diamond No. 4. In case you can come by, these will be late (8:30) games.

The bi g game between the "old" explayers and the present team finally became a reality June 14, at Ennis.

This was our Lodge 84 picnic held on Brother Sid and Sister Justine Pokladnik's ranch. Though the diamond was not on par with our city softball diamonds, we did improvise a playing field and had lots of fun. Oh yes, the score, well the exes came out ahead by, the score of 7-to-6, but we did have a little help from the umpire, who did help a great deal. The exes .feel that even on a regulation diamond, the score would have been about as close. The main reason was Jim Scoggins, though only 36, and inactive for some ten years, can still fire that ball with the best of them.

After his performance an all-out campaign has begun to get him to play with us again and we are hoping that he will. We had about 17 exes at the game plus 6 or 7 who had other commitments or they would have been present. It was mostly a fun game, but it was sort of a reunion for many of the fellows and their families. I wish to express sincere thanks to Albin (Bino) Vrana who was most active and worked hard in contacting most of the exes and my contribution was very small, compared to his. Also, thanks to Wes Jaska, the team manager and all of the ball players for attending the picnic and the game. There is strong talk of having another game at next year's picnic. We also had the pleasure of seeing our editor of the Vestnik, Brother Rudy Sefcik and his wife and family at our picnic and game, and I thanked him personally for printing our articles and for his support of the team, I wish to also thank him public-

VPSTNIK ly for his efforts., and wish him well in keeping up the fine work of editing the Vestnik for all the members of the SPJST. The lodge picnic was truly a success, the food was delicious, the beverages cold, and plentiful and the shade under those tall, beautiful and numerous pecan trees was cool and inviting. I would venture a guess of 500 people present, and possibly close to 600. I know the lodge is most appreciative of Brother and Sister Pokladniks letting us have the picnic and outing on their ideal and beautiful ranch, it was truly a most enjoyable event . Those of you who did not attend, please remember the 1971 picnic and join in the fun.

This is not a Czech Day, but a Slavic Day. This is the only celebration in the World of different Slavic groups working together. The Czechs, Polish and Ukranians are demonstrating true brotherhood at this celebratili.

We not only honor these tv,.o saints for bringing the Christian Faith to cur ancestors, but also for bringing modern culture with the introduction of a written alphabet. The Cyrillic alphabet, used in Russia :nA other.

Slavic areas, ranks with the Roman and Arabic alphabets as the most widely used in the word.

Members of Lodge 88 tave played a very important part in this celebration from the very start and are still very active today.

The day will start at 9:30 a.m. with a procession and Mass to follow at 9:30 a. m. (in Czech Language).

There are several craft entries. We are all proud of you youth for representing Lodge No. 87 in this way. District Youth Achievement Day will be held at Seaton Lodge No. 47 on June 28. All members come out on this day and show our youth that we are behind them 100 per cent.

The youth club is now selling fresh vegetables. If you want some good, fresh green beans and squash, contact me at 778-8641 or any youth club member. If you haven't bought your candy yet, contact us promptly, for we only have a limited amount left.

This summer District II camp is August 6-9 at Camp Val Verde. Parents, if you are interested in being a chaperone, please contact me at the above number. We will need approximately 4 or 5 chaperones. Camp is going to be , a lot of fun and very exciting this year. Elach camper will be able to pick his or her own craft. This year we have a TV celebrity, who is to be with us for one afternoon and one evening.

Dear Readers, We are on a good start with the new year. Our monthly meeting was held and we had very good attendance.

Missed a few faces but hope to see you at the next meeting.

The youth enjoyed the Flag Day celebration that was held following the meeting. Winners for the special drawings went to Diane Zhanel, Linda Mikel, Louis Mikel and Vera Wensowitch.

Prizes for the Stanley product workers were presented. Thanks to everyone who made this project a success.

Don't forget to continue looking for the Pepsi caps. Your last turn-in of caps was pretty good. Some who failed to remember to participate, please look around because this is summertime and I know people stay thirsty.

First Of all, we made our trip to Six Flags Over Texas and all got back 04:(,; had a good time, just a little tired out. I would like to thank Sisters Dorothy Novosad, So-

15 phie Sodek, Ruth Kohutek, Lillian Hanusch and Vallie Zavedny, and Brother Johnny Dokupil, for being chaperones for the juniors on the trip to Six Flags. Also, a thank you to Brother and Sister Edward IVIihatsch, Brother and Sister Leslie Mesecke, Brother and Sister James Hanusch, and Sister Sophie Sodek for taking their ears and hauling some of the children, since we just couldn't all get on the bus. Everyone in the youth club wishes to say "Thank You Very Much!" There were several other adults who went with us and helped.

On Tuesday evening, June 16, the teens held a volleyball game tcial with about 21 teens and severat visitors and many, : adults present.

On Wednesday, June 17, the juniors had a softball game with about 19 juniors and 'Wee visitors present. I would like to give a special thank you to Brother and Sister Johnie Vanicek for helping out with these outdoor game socials. Also,, to everyone of you who helped and came out -,to be with us, and enjoyed the fellowship, we enjoyed having you.

This coming Sunday will be YAD for District No. II. It will be held at Seaton Star Hall. The program is outlined by Sister Balusek, so be sure and read her letter regarding the starting time. We extend an invitation and encourage everyone in District No, II to come and be with us this Sunday and enjoy all of the talent and crafts that will be presented from all the lodges in the district.

16 LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON On May 29, we had our getting out of school party and picnic. At this event we went swimming then we had hamburgers, and for dessert we all had ice cream. There were 23 members presera, two guests, one new member plus all the adult leaders.

On June 5 the lodge held its local YAD talent show. Carla Adams won the individual talent show for district. Carla Adams, Elizabeth Mikolajewski, Jennifer Baethe, John Baethe, Gary Wehring, and Mark Baethe won the group talent for district, with a skit.

The Lodge 88 installation dinner for the new Junior League Officers was held and the following officers installed: President — Cheri Murray Vice. Dear Readers, Our last youth club meeting was a very special occasion. The event was really to celebrate the coming of summer vacation. We had a day camp, and it provided a great deal of fun to all types Of personal interests. We had dancing, sports, a craft, a sack lunch, and best of all, "court." Fortunately, most of the victims of punishment seemed to learn their lessons quite well.

One of our main discussion periods of the business meeting was that of camp. Our District VI camp is June 22-25, at Bastrop State Park. From previous experiences there, many contributed to the exciting recollections of the past. Now,, new members, as well as "old" are quite eagerly looking forward to board the bus next Monday, and head for Camp Bastrop.

Another very important date on all our calendars is our district Youth Achievement Day to be held at the El Campo American Legion Hall, Sunday, July 19.
