Father's Day is observed on the third Sunday in June, June 21 this year.

This is the time to honor the head of the household — Dad! He takes part in many scenes in our life. His roles are: provider, advisor, counseler, and pal! He can mend a toy wagon, a hotrod or a broken heart. We search him out for leadership, encouragement and advice about the future. Anytime something happens, he is there, ready to do his best to protect us and take care of various problems. On Father's

WE APPRECIATE FATHER I'm glad we have a Father's Day To celebrate each year, For if anyone deserves it.

It's dad, the grand old dear.

He pay for all our various gifts, Our flowers and our frills, And when the postman brings the mail He always pays that pile of bills.

Day we present him with a thoughtful remembrance, gift, and/or a little ex-

tra show of kindness, yes, but in the hearts of his family, not only this day, but every day in the year will always be "Father's Day"—remembered with fondness, love and affection. If he still lives, make his day enjoyable.

If, by the works of fate, he has departed to his eternal reward, remember him for his kind sacrifices made in his lifetime, to try to make us worthy citizens of our community, our country and the world.

In a definite respect, Father'z; Day is a logical sequence to Mother's Day. For if mother on her day receives affectionate attentions, father is entitled to his share. It is the fashion to often call father "Pop" or Dad" and fathers like it. Such familiarities help keep a man young. They are also implied compliments.

But there is something about fatherhood that is bigger than wisecracks.

The very word "father" is unique for in no language spoken anywhere in the world is there any word like it. Fatherhood of any kind is a summons to the best that is within man.

But translating the word into terms of life is the problem that every faither of boys and girls has to solve. We used to think of the relationship between a father and his children as a kind of bargain. On one side there was authority, on the other side was ob-

Fathers play games and go pla with their children. They find they joy themselves, and it means more than enjoyment. It is insurance and;. it is an investment. When father, forl instance, takes his son to a ball game, swims with him , hikes with 1dm over the 11111s, tries him out at golf or test--1 nis, more is at stake than4aealth and pleasure, The son finds that his father is a reasonable and considerate person, and hence risks of incompatibility within the home are reduced. They are insured against.

Every hour so spent by a' father ! with his son or daughter is rewarded by influence. As the son grows up, situations arise in which lie needs advice and even warning, It is of tile utmost importance to the son's character and his future that he pay attention to what his father says. A companionable father finds that he doesn't need to argue. He has learned how beSt to say what his son ought to hear. His investment of time and 'trouble has yielded an asset. ♦♦

FATHER'S DAY — PAST AND "PRESENT" The king of the j ungle provides a regal distinction for fathers -among' Dinka natives in Africa. Traditionally, young men of this tribe present their fathers with the skin of the first lion they 'kill!

There are many other ways — past and "present" — of making the man of the hbuse feel like a king. The ancient Greeks held a feast at which father was given the lion's share of the best food and drink at the table, and a pre-dinner libation was poured to the fathers of the community.

In ancient China, where great age stood ' for great prestige, lionized fathers frequently preferred the gift of a "longevity robe." In the United States, the third Sunday of June is now so important an occasion that 50 million families are expected to spend more than a billion dollars each year on toiletries and ties, and bowling balls, Old Spice, and new cushions for the "lion's" den. Of this total, a sizeable chunk will go for toiletry items.

Father's chores and roles differ in fascinating ways around the world.

In parts of the Near and Far East, father has almost complete control over his children, but must still defer to grandfather. Several generations may live under one roof, and the patriarch dominates them all.

We can get our mail here in West out of our P.O. box, but it is not sent to us from Waco. Memorial Day also fell on a Saturday, and caused a large amount of delay. MAIL EARLY, ALWAYS!

Boys and girls in one New Guinea area learn that doing a tribal dance and carving ritual masks is man's work — and that it is mother's job to catch the fish and till the fields that feed the family.

Also, in New Guinea, men of another tribe would recoil in horror at the thought of striking their children. To them, a child's tears are a tragedy.

And one of Dad's biggest jobs is to see that his children never cry.

In contrast, tribesmen of the Russian Caucasus are so stern that they never play with their babies. Public opinion brands as effeminate the man who fondles his children. Custom, however, does permit father to take the hand of his youngster when walking ... once the child has reached the age of four.

SPJST Society lost his life in the Vietnamese war. Sp/4 Arnold Kulhanek, 22, of Lodge No. 1, Fayetteville passed away Wednesday, June 3, 1970.

He was placed to eternal rest Friday, June 12 in Fayetteville. More detailed information in the future.—Eiclitor.

A researcher for the Shulton corn-. pany found that on one island in the South Pacific, a son refers to his father by a name that means "my mother's husband." Dad's role is downgraded in the tribe which believes that spirits are the true fathers of mankind.

Another exotice custom related to fatherhood might he more to the taste of American men. Among some African and South American peoples, fathers fear that they might endanger their newborn children by going about their daily chores. Instead, they take to bed for a few days and do absolutely nothing.

Today, it may be a proud moment when an American father names his newborn son and heir after himself.

• • Sister Anna Skopik, age 93, succumbed May 23, 1970, in Caldwell. She was placed to eternal rest in the Snook Cemetery, Snook, Texas, and was a member of Lodge Slovan No. 9 in Snook.

We failed to report that about two weeks ago, Brother and Sister Stanley Patak of Dallas stopped by the print shop and paid us a nice visit. Brother Stanley is an ardent fraternal worker and a director for the RVOS mutual fire insurance association. They were on their way to see some of their friends near the gulf coast. We enjoyed their visit.

Brother Frank S. Patrash, age 46, passed away May 9, 1970, in Houston.

He was interred in Forest Park East Cemetery, Houston, and was a member of Lodge Pokrok Houston No. 88, Houston.

• • Sister Julia Pustejovsky, age 85, passed away May 24, 1970 in Sehulenburg.

LODGE NO. 172, PASADENA

Dear Members, I am very happy to announce that our lodge has located a hall in which to hold our special events. It is located at 1302 Virginia St. in South Houston, only three blocks west of College Avenue.

We are having a big dance at the hall on Friday, June 19. Music will be by the Wilbur Heinsohn seven-piece orchestra, with music for the young and old. The dance will last from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. We will serve keg beer, soft drinks, set-ups, sausagedogs, hot dogs, pastries and coffee.

There will also be a drawing for two door prizes..

We are asking the members of Lodge No. 172 to bring pastries to the dance.

Everyone can see a wonderful time is being planned for everyone, so come out and have a good time!

Dear Members, President Tim Kostom convened the meeting at 7:30, and Flag Bearer Garry Zalesky presented the colors and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. The members stood in silent

tribute to departed Sisters Eva Vetuski and Brothers Willie Slovacek, Frank Petrash, Lee Trebig and James Zarr. The secretary read the minutes, which were approved as read, and she read the correspondence and the list of 56 applicants and two tranfers, which were all accepted. President Kostom and Vice President Ernest Hanka initiated the new members present.

Financial Secretary Ellen Gill gave her report for the past two months due to her absence in April because of her mother's illness. She stated that we now have 6,633 members. Youth Leader Mina Murray announced the winners in the local youth achievement contests: Queen Frances Dixon, King Drew Wise, and talent winners, Carla Adams, Arlene Malak and Lynn Lesak.

The lodge also has two groups of group talent. She reported on the youth participation on Splash Day and announced that the installation dinner of Junior officers would be in June and the installation dinner for the Teen and Intermediate officers on June 26.

The youth will have a cake sale at Northline Mall on June 20, and will appreciate donations of cakes.

Good reports were given by Rosalee Kostom for the Entertainment Committee, E. J. Kadlecek for the Social Night Committee, A. J. Zalesky for the Thursday spaghetti suppers and Saturday night kitchen income, Joe Miksch for the Bar, and H. J. Jarisch for the Blue Room. Emil Horelica reported on the organizers' country store, which was a huge success. He gave special recognition to Brother Herman Baethe for all his help and to Harry Finn who did some mighty good talking on the microphone to draw the customers, throwing in a nice melody now and then which the customers enjoyed. Emil thanked Liberty Loan & Savings for their donation of $50 and Reagan State Bank and Heights Savings & Loan for their donations.

Charles Evetts announced that the lodge would give swimming lessons starting June 15 at ten lessons for $10.

Board Chairman A. L. Hilsher gave the over-all report and thanked all who helped to make our Splash Day so successful. Auditor John Hilsher recommended that the reports be approved as given.

In the absence of Ente tainment Chairman Harley Cox, Jack Holeman reported on the coming events: Ray Jurecka dance on the 20th, and Blurnes on the 27th. The District Youth Ach-

ievement Day will be at Lodge 88 on Sunday, July 12, and the Hawaiian Dance will be on July 25, with advance sale of tickets at $2 each. Wanda Elzner reported on the Fourth of July Celebration at Brother Joe Skrabanek's Lone Pine Ranch at Danbury; this is sponsored by the lodges of the district to raise a youth l'und for the convention. Bring your family and your friends to this old fashioned celebration where all of you will be able to enjoy a good barbecued beef dinner, fishing, boating, horseback rides, games, and horseshoe throwing!

Make plans now to be there for a very jolly Fourth of July Celebration!

Della Kadlecek reported fot the Birthday Club .and invited all to their luncheon on the first and second Wednesdays of the month. Louis Hanes reported on the work of the Museum Committee, complimented Frank Broz on labeling the soda water containers, and thanked all who helped on the lodge clean-up day. Harriet Allison announced that thef. Dramatic Club would present a Czech play on July 5, so all you who love those great Czech plays that our club presents circle that date on your calendar and tell your Czech-speaking neighbors and friends about it President Kostom commented on the letter in the Vestnik written by Seaman John C. Pokiadnik and urged all to read it; it surely is a great letter, and I wish that all the trouble makers who cause the riots could read it. He wrote that he was proud to be a member of SPJST, and I say the SPJST is fortunate and proud to have you for a member, John.

Helen Hegwodd reported that the organizers had discussed and voted to do away with the initiation fee for social members, so she made the motion that we set aside this by-law and this was seconded by Emil Borelica. The members voted unanimously in favor of this, so from now on the social members will pay only the $3 annual dues. Historian Frances Glexa, in her usual capable and interesting way, reported the history of our lodge from 1935 to 1943. Ernest Ha.nka reported on the Clean-Up Day and the successful fish fry, complimenting Karl Lindemann on his work with this.

He reported more on the great Fourth of July Celebration and urged all to support this district project by being there. It will be lots Of fun, so don't miss it.

Many enjoyed the book review and musical selections put on by the Concert Choral Society in which Birdie Hilsher is a hard worker and an outstanding leader. Evelyn and Otto Mikeska and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Macat of 'Lodge 17, Caldwell, spent a week of vacation at Ord in beautiful Nebraska where they enjoyed meeting many friendly Czech people. Congratulations to Frances Dixon, pretty daughter of Dorothy and Abner Dixon, on her graduation from Spring Woods Senior High School.

Rosalee and Tim Kostom left on a month's tour of Europe! Terry Sefcik, son of Editor Rudy and Maxine Sefcik of West, is visiting here with his relatives, Lydia and Weldon Hendrick and family. It was good news to hear that Kathy Dixon Sanders, a former State Point winner, is better; we hope you keep on ithproving, Kathy. It was good to see Joe Fusig at our meeting, as he has been missed for quite some time due to a long stay at the hospital. Bonnie Cox, who was attending the University of Texas, is home for the summer but is spending most of her vacation working in an office and enjoying it,• too. I want to thank that ever popular polka king, Lee Roy Matocha of Fayetteville, who played a number on his program on the El Campo station in memory of our dear mother, Mrs. Frank Krejci; Viola and I love to think of the many times mother enjoyed listening to Lee Roy's orchestra at our Chandelier Ballroom and the many hours of pleasure she had in listening to his records on the stereo. Now a few words about a previous project. Remember the parcel post?

Well we had some parcels left over, so after we ran out of groceries we started to give Parcel Post packages as spin wheel prizes and believe me they went fast. Everyone was anxious to see what was in the next package so some could hardly wait for us to spin the old wheel. Yes, it was fun, but running a booth is also tiring, so after the last package, we were glad to close shop and join the rest of the crowd for a little fun.

This is not the case; we want anything that is old where-

You can ship such items or you can bring them to your lodge hall and notify us and we will pick thorn up on the first scheduled trip through your area. Small items can be shipped by parcel post to the SPJST Supreme Lodge, LAM Dept., Box 100, Temple, Texas. If you will send us a of what you wish to donate in the way of larger items we will notify you by return mail when and how to ship Often we hear people tell us that they will pas's their antiques on to their children, and in many eases this may work out well enough. In some cases the children hold such items hid. know of no better place than to have them displayed in the SPJST Museum crediting such items to their parents or grandparents where they will be pre y, rved, kept in cleanliness, and everyone will know where these items came from. If means a kind of memorial for your loved ones who have passed on.

We can still use some more books, especially in the Czech language and English books on any subject dealing with Czech heritage, Czech people, etc. Our library division of LAM is progressing very nicely so send in any surplus books you might have and let's make our library outstanding.

We need more local lodge pictures, stories, badges, etc for our archives.

Ekicii lodge is limited to one entry in each -latent and royalty contest division so it flu t y be necessary to conduct a preliminary elimination. A lodge is not limited to the number of craft entries, but an individual may not enter more than one article in each craft category division.

2. A youth may continue to compete annually in all YAD contest age divisions and categories in which, the youth has not won state champion.

3. Everyone is subject to the same rules and regulations. Failure to coinply wi t h any part thereof means disqualification from that particular contest division category.

4. All YAD contestants preregister in all contest category. divisions by filling out an entry blank for each. These may be obtained from the local lodge youth leader, who must mail these to their District Youth Director not lilter than 20 days before the district's YAD. It is the contestant's responsibility to the completed entry blanks to the leader in time. Leaders may obtain additional entry blanks from the State Youth Director.

7. YAD contestants who are unable to attend the district or state YAD MUST contact their youth leader 017 District Youth Director three days in advance of the event in order that an alternate might- be substituted.

Failure to do so will mean that persons may not participate in any SPJST contest for TWO month8. UnaVoidable delays are exceptions. The second place winner will replace the first place winner whenever necessary.

8. District YAD individual and group winners shall receive a Certificate of Achievement. The district may offer additional prizes to YAD winners, 9. Each district YAD participant shall receive a participation ribbon.

10. In case of a tie, there will be a run-off among first place contenders.

11. Every contestant shall maintain single status during the contest.

12. The first place district YAD winner in each contest category will compete at the State YAD. The same craft item, or talent number, or royalty topic' will be used in all YAD competition. A food item in craft is the only exception, in which cases an exact duplicate will be accepted.

13. In all district and state competitions, the judges will be separated to judge independently, except in Arts and Crafts. In these contests, the judges will select the most outstanding items in each category before proceeding to independently judge those items. There will be at least three qualified judges for YAD contests.

The District and State Youth Directors will arrange selection for their respective YADs. In case less than three judges are present, all qualified people present will be asked to participate in a drawing to select the needed judge or judges. Decision of the judges will be final.

14. Tabulation of the judges' score sheets will be supervised by a member of the Supreme Lodge.

15. If there is no competition in a contest category at the State YAD, only a participation prize will be given.

16. The District Youth Director will send a list of all district YAD winners (royalty, talent, Beseda, and craft, including name, age, lodge, of each) to the State Youth Director. This shall be in no later than August 7.

17. The Supreme Lodge will provide all flowers for the State YAD,

VflSTNIR 18. An SPJST memento will be given to each contestant judged at the State YAD. 19. STATE YAD PRIZES: Each State YAD youth contestant (s ) shall receive a p articipation ribbon and a participation prize of $5.00. Each person receives this one prize regardless of how many contests entered.

First place prizes are: ROYALTY - $30 and a $15 trophy CRAFT -速 Junior (6-12) : $3 trophy; Senior (13-19): $5 trophy.

BESEL)A - $5 trophy to each dancer Individual divisions: TALENT 6-9 - $10 trophy 10-12 - $15 trophy 13-15 速 $20 trophy 16-19 - $15 trophy and $20.

Group divisions: Junior (6-12): $10 trophy Senior (13-19): $20 trophy POSTER CONTEST: 1st: $10, 2nd: $7.50, 3rd: $5.

CRAFT 1. Craft items must be made by youth after the State YAD of the previous year.

2. Craft items are divided into four age groups 6-9, 10-12, 13-15. and 16-19.

Within - each age division there are four categories. They are: ORIGINAL ARTS (a creative design: painting or drawing only). The painting may be oil, crayon, acrylic, casein, pastel or water color. The drawing may be ink, pencil, crayon or charcoal.

HOME ARTS (needlecraft, foods, or sewing only). The needlecraft may be embroidery, knitting, or crochet.

Food is any eatible food product.

Sewing may be a dress, play, formal or other sewn product.

SCIENCE PROJECTS AND EDUCATIONAL STUDIES (scientific experiment, woodwork construction, research project, or collection).

HANDICRAFT is any item the contestant has constructed or assembled which is not included in any of the other category divisions.

3. A contestant may not enter more than one craft item in earn M the four categories.

4. One side of the YAD entry blank (see rule No. 4, under General Regulations) should be filled out to describe the craft item. This should be done before giving it to your youth leader for pre-registration. This card will be given back to you at the YAD registration to be taped by your craft display with your own name on the back side.

5. Craft items will be judged on CREATIVE ABILITY (35 points), APPEARANCE ,,SL DESIGN (25 points), EDUCATIONAL VALUE (20 points), NEATNESS (10 points), and OVERALL MERIT (10 points).

6. Youth may price and sell their own craft after judging at district and state YADs. Winners will retain their craft for competition on the next level.

TALENT 1. There will be individual ;and group competition, divided by age.

Individual Age Groups: 6-9, 10-12.

13-15, 16-19.

Group Age Divisions: Junior (6-12) Note: The age of the oldest in the group determines the group's ave. No more than 10 youths in a gro4).

2. A youth ;nay not compete in more than one individual talent number nor in 0-10r0 than one group talent number.

3. Time Limit: Individual: Not to exceed 3 Minutes Group - Not to exceed 5 minutes.

4. A solo or group performance hi twirling, dancing, vocal, ,and or orchestrai instruments may use live or recorded accompaniment. However, vocalists may NOT be accompanied by another vocal, live or recorded, but may be accompanied by instruments-live or recorded. Instrumental :performance may not be accompanied by live performer or recording of that same instrument. Piano, organ, accordion, and guitar soloists may not use any form of accompaniment.

Any accompaniment, which may be professional, will not be judged and the judges will be publicly informed to that effect.

5. Talent will be judged on STAGE PRESENCE (poise and personality) 20 points, TECHNIQUE (skill required for the performance) 35 points, RENDITION (manner in which talent is presented) 30 points, EXTRA MERIT (formerly referred to as overall merit) for an outstanding performance, 15 points.

6. All contestants shall provide whatever is needed for their performance.

A standard public address system and a piano will be provided and the District Youth Director will check that the hosting lodge has their equipment in perfect operating order.

ROYALTY 1. Every lodge may have a queen and a. king candidate (age 15-19). The lodge may have a duchess to accompany their lodge queen and a duke to

/2 accompany their lodge king in all YAD competition. The lodge need not have a king in order to have a queen and vice-versa. They must have a queen in order to have a duchess and king in order to have a duke.

2. Competition: (district) lodge queen competes for district queen, lodge king competes for district king. (state)district queen competes for state queen; district king competes for state king.

The duke and duchess are honorary positions and do not compete.

3. Candidates for queen and candidates for king are judged on APPEARANCE (20 points), PERSONALITY (20 points), POISE AND POSTURE (20 points), OVERALL MERIT (15 points), SPEECH (content and delivery) — 25 points.

4. The topics for the speech are listed on the reverse side of the autobiographical form which can be secured from a youth leader. Each candidate will need to complete this form and bring it to their district YAD. The speeches are limited to 3 minutes.

5. Attire: (district and state) queens — floor-length formals kings — dark suit and dark bow tie duchesses — short party dress dukes — dark bow tie, slacks and coat.

BESEDA 1. Limit: one circle per lodge to compete at the district YAD. 2. The SPJST edited version of the Czech (Ceska) Beseda will be used.

Youth leaders may obtain this record from the State Youth Director.

3. Those entering Beseda competition may enter the other YAD contests. 4. Each circle will be judged on PRECISION (rhythm and timing) 40 points, APPEARANCE AND POSTURE, 25 points; DANCERS' EXPRESSION (enjoyment) 25 points, and OVERALL MERIT, 10 points.

YOUTH CLUB ACTIVITY POSTER CONTEST 1. District competition will be held at the district YAD. The top three posters will complete at the state YAD. Exception: When the SPJST quadrennial convention is held, the district competition will be held at the spring district meeting and state competition and awarding will be at the Youth l3anquet.

2. Each club (youth, junior, or teen) may enter one poster (22 by 28 inches) depicting their club activitiy with a combination of newspaper clippings,

FRONTIER DAYS RODEO at Taylor Lodge 29, hosting lodges: 80 Holland, 20 Granger, 174 Rockdale and 48 Beyersville.

May 17, 1970 at Taylor the Frontier Days Rodeo was held for the southern part of District II. What a wonderful time every one had When you walked into the hall, you were at once transformed into the world of the Old West. The youth club, led by Mrs. Amelia Pokorny, YL, and with the assistance of Mrs. Millie Rieger and Mrs. Catherine Walker, had really done a terrific job of decorating. They had everything from corn on the cob, shucks, bales of hay, and wild cane, to saddles, horse blankets, lariats, haute strings, single-trees, and old turning plows, plus one item that was very outstanding. Seems it must have been held over from the old "home-brew" days. Yes friends, it was an old bottle capper, Also, the ladies of Lodge 48, Beyersville had charge of the chuck wagon, and this was also a very unusually decorated asset to the scene.

I might add that the vittles served from the chuck wagon were all very

tasty, even the "white lightning," was really soothing to the throat, after trying to be heard over all the roar of excitement of that day. Even though there was a threat of severe weather, we had a great turnout. Actually, the youth out unmbered the adults by 2 to 1, but it was a lot of fun, with around 175 people present.

Those of you who couldn't make the Rodeo, really missed a fun day. All you have to do is ask the people who were there, and I'm sure they will all tell you how much fun they had, and how they enjoyed seeing all the youth and adults in stiff competition with each other. Friends, you haven't lived, until you have witnessed, Mr. Anton Pokorny as a "queen" contestant.

Also, it was so great of our District Director, Mr. Henry Vitek, to take an active part. Thanks for coming, Mr. Vitek. Hope you had a great time.

Needless to say, the youth won out over the adults, but one thing for sure, the adults were really in there pitching, and the youth had to really get on the ball to finally win out over the adults.

This has been a wonderful experience for our district to have gotten together on two different occasions

Wednesday, June 17, 1970 (Rodeo at Taylor and the Taster Ilappening at Cyclone) for a time of fraternal togetherness and fun between the adults and youth. I hope we can do something like tins again next year. If you enjoyed these fun-filled days and would like to do this again next year, let me hear from you, and I will see what we can come up with for next time.

There are so many people who need to be thanked for all the help at the rodeo. I hope I don't forget anyone.

LODGE NO. 87, TE1VIELE Dear Readers, A new youth year is beginning, and much excitement is in the air. The youth clubs are buzzing and working very hard to grow. year is going to be very exciting, and we have inuch to work for and look forward to. Will you do your part, youth and parents, to help us grow?

District II had their training class on May 30 at Lodge 87 with six youth leaders and two assistants attending.

VESTNIK

The clay was very profitable; we learned many new activities and craft ideas. SYD' Janousek and DYD Balusek led us in some spirit-filled songs. We talked about common problems that face our clubs, and about how to solve them. Camp for 1970 was discussed; there is much to look forward to for camp. The dates for District II camp are August 6, 7, 8, 9, at Camp Val Verde. We discussed YAD on the district level, which will be held on June 28 at Seaton Lodge No. 47. I hope that many youth will represent their lodges in this way, by entering talent and/or craft.

Tile youth club of Lodge No. 87 elected new officers for the coining year. Let's all work together and make this year the best yet. I want to thank the cut-going officers for all the work they did for the youth club. We will continue to work together for a bigger and better youth club. Let's work hard on getting new members to join our club. There is a special New Members and Guest Contest that we will have.

Come to the next meeting, and bring a friend with you. You will be rewarded.

Dear Members and Readers: I attended an all-day meeting on instruction of YAD, camp, and the new projects for 1970-1971. We have a new motto for this year. The motto is "Going Like 70." We will also have an SP,IST 500 race for the next four months on all activities and we get a triple bonus if we have a new ac-

14 tivity that we haven't had before. I enjoyed the meeting and I feel I learned quite a bit. SYD James Janousek and DYD Sister Jerlene Balusek did a good job of getting us all enthusiastic with special songs and loud yells, so we are now going like '70, let's all remember that. If any one asks you how are you going, tell them: "0oing like 70!"

We held cur regular meeting on June 7 at 2 a.m. with a very good youth attendance. There were 34 juniors present, 29 teens and 6 visitors and 9 adult members so you can see we had a full youth room and with all of the activity going on at the same time it was quite loud. I wish to thank Sisters Vlasta Ilruska, Laverne Vanicek, Vertis Mesecke, Jerlene Balusek, and Georgia Pavlica for their help during the youth meeting and I can tell you they saved my life because we had about a half dozen projects going on at the same time. Also, thanks to Sister Dorothy Pechal, Brother Clarence •Sodek, Brother Anton Motl and to all the rest of you who helped in different ways.

I also wish to thank the judges for helping us with our talent contest.

They were Mr. and Mrs. William Hall and Charles Fousts. Mr. Hall is the band director at Temple Junior College and Charles Fousts is a graduate of Temple Junior College and has played in the band many years arid M different orchestras. Judges, thanks a lot!

Since I am on the subject of the talent contest, I will give you the names of the winners, but first I would like to congratulate all the participants, the losers as well as the winners, because we appreciate your talent, and in many instances there are only a few points difference in the scores, and I wish all of you could have been winners. I am happy to say that we had contestants in almost every category. the winners are: Individual talent, ages 6-9 — Carla Adams; ages 10-12 — Arlene Malak, and ages 13-15 — Lynn Lesak. We have a group talent for the age group of 6-9 and group 13-15. We have our Beseda group, and our queen this year is Frances Dixon; her duchess is Elizabeth Mikolajewski. Thanks to all the children who took an active part in YAD. June the 7th we had Splash Day and it was a big success. We had our best sales with the outdoor drinks.

The other booths did a good business, too. There were three beauty contests and the winners of them were: Lorie Lee Barns (6-12), Patsy — I am sorry I lost her last name — (13-19), and the boys' winner was Kenny Broz.

July 4th is coming up real soon and we will have a real big day at Uncle Joe's and all of you plan now to come to a real good old-fashioned July 4th picnic. There will be more details in

Mina Murray, Youth Leader —SPJ8TLETTERS FROM THE YOUTH LODGE NO. 41', SEATON Dear Vestnik Readers, This is the first letter I've written in about two year. I've decided to write and get on the ball. I'll be writing more often since school is out.

The regular meeting of Lodge 47 was held on June 7 at 2 p.m. The meeting was brought to order by Brian Vanicek, vice-president. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and then received the club motto. The meeting was started with old business, then we went into new business. The people who had birthdays in the month of June were recognized. The door prize was then given.

By the time this letter gets published our club will haye been to Six Flags.

More than likely we had a blast!

Dear Readers, Our monthly meeting was held on May 31. The meeting was called to order by saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Then the minutes of the last meeting were read and the treasurer's report was given.

Under new business, we discussed a skating party for the 20th of June. We also decided to have a swimming party later on in the summer. Finally, an election of officers was held. Then the meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.

LODGE' NO. 17, NEW TABOR Dear Members, On May 28, the New Tabor Youth Club had a bunco party. Nearly every member was there. Ronnie Schielack won with 17 games for the boys, and for the girls, Ray Ann Cedidla won with 16 games.

On June 5, the New Tabor Youth Club had an Out-of-School Dance. The Renditions played for the dance. We invited all of the youth clubs in the district but only Dime Box came. I believe everyone had a nice time.

Dear Readers, On March the 17th, our youth club held its regular monthly meeting.

Calling ,us to order was Randy Shenkir, our president. After taking up dues, and with the absence of our secretary we went straight to our old business. Our candy money should be in very soon and more still has to be sold, so everyone who wants candy, please contact Judy Shenkir.

Turning now to camp; it is to be held August 6-9 at Camp Val Verde.

The first activities should start at 9 a.m. I know Mrs. Balusek, our DYD, has a lot in store for us after our arrival there at camp.'

District YAD is to be held at Seaton. I hope to see a lot of our lodge members there.

One day in June, our youth club plans to play putter golf. The date has not been set yet: We also plan to set a date for `an appreciation nite for the parents.

We elected new officers in our May meeting but they were not supposed to take office until the June meeting.

treasurer; and Sandra Royder, reporter.

Our youth leader, Mrs. Vajdak, told us what we made in the kitchen at the dance, June 6.

After our meeting all the youth members got a free sodapop and some of us went outside, set up the volleyball net and played volleyball.

Saturday, June 13 at 4 p.m. the lodge is going to start working on the outside of the hall. We just finished painting the inside of the hall.

Funeral services for Brother Sulak were held at 1:45 p.m, Saturday, May 16, from the Triska Chapel followed by a Requiem Mass at 2 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Rev. J. J. Tydlacka officiating.

Interment was in 'East Garden of Gethsemane.

The deceased was a resident of Rosenberg since 1954. Ile was born and grew up in Fort Bend County (Tavener) and was an agent for the Farmers Insurance Group since 1951.

who passed away in the Colonial Rest Home in Schulenburg, Texas, Sunday, May the 24th, at the age of 86. She was a faithful member of SPJST fur 58 years. She was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church of Weimar. She was laid to her resting place, May 27. 1970 with Rev. 0. B. 'Callen of ficiating. Interment was in the Weimar Catholic Cemetery.

She was born February 14, 104 to Joseph and Theresa Pustejovski who preceded her rn death; six brothers, Joe, John, Frank, Charles, Felix and William; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Otto Walters and Mary Pustejovsky; also Mrs. William Frances Walters of Hallettsville, survives, along with a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

What irked him most was that he was tin sending her an alimony check once a month.

Finally, Marty went to court to demand a reduction of his alimony payments.

"I work mighty hard for that money," he informed the judge. "Why shOuld I have to pay for r alcoholic binges?"

However, he failed to win the reduction he sought. The judge said once his ex-Wife had possession of the alimony, she had a right to spend it any way she pleased.

Most courts have taken Viz' si hands-off attitude regarding the behavior of a divorcee. In fact, they haVe refused to cut her alimony even when she has engaged in immoral conduct with other men.

One court summed up the matter this way: "After the divorce, the parties go into the world as strange4 to each other. The wife no` owes any duty of purity to the husband."

Nevertheless, judges some es do reveal a degree of itheashiess about the gay divOrcee,aS 'vell as a degree of sym p athy for the ex-husband — forced to foot the bills for a woman Who is not behaving the way she ShOuld.

Accordingly there is a tendency to grant a reduction in alimony if, as a result of her misbehavior, the divorcee's financial needs are actually less than they were before.

That kind ("If situation arises, said one court, when some new hoy friend ,h.as taken on the task of supporting her.

And another court gave at least a measure of consolation to a disgruntled husband. The court pointed out that it his former wife's misconduct would not be grounds for moving the alimony 'figure down, neither would his own misconduct be grounds for moving the alimony figure up.
