FR 31 THE EDITOR'S DESK TO ALL GRADUATES: A man who "knew everything" at 18, admits he knows little at 80. — Mark Twain once observed, "A man doesn't realize how smart he is until he reaches 18, or how ignorant he is until he reaches 80." The wisdom of this observation creeps into one's understanding with the passing years..I can recall vividly decades ago going through a cocky, self-confident period when I felt anything I didn't know wasn't worth knowing. Congratulations Graduates! At this time of the year when graduations are in order, your editor would like to add a few thoughts. • • Never be a pessimist. Remember: The man who moved the mountain, began by carrying away small stones. Help others find happiness. The man who lives only for himself, runs a mighty small business. • • Wouldn't it be great if we could sell experience at what it cost us? • • Conscience is the small voice that makes us feel even smaller. Little white lies are seldom as white as they are painted. e • The road ahead may seem long, but planning the steps will smooth your path. A planned program of life insurance is the blazed trail to future security.
