FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, April 12, your editor and family attended the meeting of District VII hosted by Lodge Anton Cermak No. 56 in Corpus Christi. President Morris of the SL, SPJST and Sister Morris were also present at the meeting. Somehow, I feel that both of us felt that we should be there since it is not always very convenient to be at such a distant district meeting. The meeting was not as well attended as it should have been, however, let's face it; it is a district spread out over a large geographical area and some districts more closely connected do not bring more of their membership to their meetings. The spirit of everyone was good, although the weather was somewhat sultry, and a fraternal spirit prevailed, regardless. Perhaps that is what we need the most in our Society: an understanding of the problems that are ever-present in their efforts to gain some encouragement to continue moving forward. In true honesty, we enjoyed the trip, though tiresome and especially the honest and sincere brotherhood among the members. They are certainly to be congratulated for their untiring efforts for the SPJST and their lodges. Actually, all that they need is more support from the membership! Certainly their membership realizes all of the benefits of the SPJST. Or, really, do any of us?
THE LILT OF LAUGHTER I've toiled with the men the world has blessed, As I've toiled with the men Who failed. I've toiled with the men who strove with zest, And I've toiled with the men who wailed. And this is the tale my soul would tell, As it drifts o'er the harbor bar; The sound of a sight doesn't carry well But the lilt of a laugh rings far. if you would be heard at all, my lad, Keep a laugh in your heart and throat, For those who are deaf to accents sad Are alert to the cheerful note. Keep hold of the cord of laughter's bell, Keep aloof from the notes that mar. The sound of a sigh doesn't carry well, But the lilt of a laugh rings far! April 19, was a day when we felt proud to attend another dedication of another Lodge in our SPJST, Lodge Friendship No. 174, Rockdale. Honestly, they chose the correct name because there was a friendly smile on everyone's face. The dedication ceremonies were carried out by ' SL President Morris and SL Secretary Urbanovsky. All of the Su preme Lodge officers were present with the exception
of Brother Joe B. Hejny, who could not attend due to his doctor's orders, and Brother August Kacir who was in the hospital in Temple. We know they would have been proud to have been among those present. And so our Society grows, and FRATERNALISM grows with it. We are confident that it will! Somehow, we just cannot get it out of our system, it is Just downright pleasant to meet more nice people! A nice gesture by lodge 66 of a present to the new I,ocder 174 Youth Club to help them get started is commendable. o ITTENTIONÂŽ ALL MEMBERS AND READERS:
