Collection: 19th Century Autographs An interesting gathering of autographs of prominent Americans, featuring several important officials of Massachusetts; includes ALS by Washington Gladden, Horace Greeley (to Noah Webster), Josiah Quincy Jr, Alexander H Rice (with contemporary photo)*, George D Robinson, and FW Seward; LS by George Bancroft (as Secy of War), Benjamin F Butler (2, one on suspected fraud in the Department of Negro Affairs), John Jay Knox (3, as Comptroller of the Currency), John D Rockefeller Jr (at age 14), and one other; DS by HW Blair, George S Boutwell, John Brooks, Edward Everett, and Finn Wadsworth (1780); and Signatures of Ralph Henry Barbour, Aubrey Boucicault, Martin Brimmer*, Jonathan Chapman*, Henry Clay, Thomas Davis*, Samuel A Eliot*, Gen Charles King, John D Long*, Theodore Lyman*, Thomas Talbot, Charles Wells*, and Frances Willard (ANS on Women’s National Christian Temperance Union stationery).
