Isuzu Motors Ltd which is the Japanese manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, is the world’s largest truck producer that specializes in diesel engines and commercial vehicles. It bears the full name of Isuzu JidĹ?sha Kabushiki-Kaisha, which was named after a river that flows past a Japanese shrine. Isuzu began its pace in 1916 when the Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company looked out to expand its production to involve automobiles. By the year 1922, their first car was built in partnership with British manufacturer Wolseley Motors. The promotion of domestic auto production of Japanese government boosted the presence of the company in the following decades that resulted in the formation of Isuzu Motors Ltd in 1949. Till date, isuzu has produced more than 20 million diesel engines found all over the world. In 1974 for the first time Isuzu’s engines were launched in the United States when General Motors took the 34% stakes of Isuzu. Later this brand came up with its own commercial vehicles introduced in the market in the year of 1981. By the year 1953, it ventured a technical partnership with Rootes and produced the Hillman Minx passenger car. They also came up with an agreement with General Motors to produce the Gemini and gradually started its exports to the United States. The company had started exporting cars in the United States from 1981 and from that ever since it has produced a number of popular cars like the Axiom, Rodeo, Trooper and the present Ascender model. Today, Isuzu is admired as the world's largest manufacturer of medium duty trucks. It has its assembly and manufacturing plants in Fujisawa, the Japanese city and also in the prefectures Tochigi and Hokkaido.
