Weekly Bulletin Issue 136. January 15th 2015
We have a Routemaster! My first worry of 2015 was finding a double decker bus as promised for our annual guided tour of the No11 Bus Route with Ian Jelf, as the ones we had previously used had gone out of service. After ringing around all the transport museums and bus operators known to Google, we finally came up trumps with a classic ex-London Routemaster Bus with uniformed driver and conductor! So come & ride the Double Decker with Ian and get a tour of Birmingham like no other! Could you help RNIB? Veronica, a Spice member who works for RNIB (the charity who support people with sight loss) has asked me to pass on that they are currently looking for volunteers to help with reception and general admin duties in their office close to New St Station. RNIB offer expenses and it may be attractive to those who may have time during the day, or those in education who would like to gain some cv enhancing experience. There’s more info on their web HERE or email Veronica if you can help.
It’s Walking Jim .. but not as we know it! New event ideas come and go in Spice but the recent trend for Nordic Walking appears to be here to stay. Mark Phillips has been spreading the word that if you walk you might as well Nordic walk and burn more calories whilst putting less strain on your body. Nordic Walking happens to feature in my own New Year’s resolutions. I plan to get trained, get poles and get going in Sutton Park in my lunch breaks. So please hold me to account on this! I‘ll be at one of the Nordic Walking Intros (see list HERE) very soon and hope to see you there too. However, poles aren’t for everyone and there are lots of other ways to enjoy walking with Spice. We’re planning another Spice Walking Festival this year to bring it all together and celebrate walking in all its forms. Watch this space for updates. Oh, and if your idea of walking involves animals, we have Llama Trekking back in the programme for 2015 HERE and another Charity Dog Walk HERE. So get “off the leash” and out for some “walkies!”
