Birmingham Assay Office is moving from its splendid historic building shortly and our tour next Thursday is a last opportunity to see a very special part of Birmingham’s jewellery heritage and learn about the vital work they carry out. Step onto Platform 9¾! Yes, this is the event that all Harry Potter fans and film buffs have been waiting for! Warner Brothers Studios are shortly opening a new attraction at their world famous Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour. They will soon be opening Platform 9¾ complete with The Hogwarts Express. All, meticulously recreated by the original set crew. Tickets for weekends are already hard to come by and we know they will be like gold once the new attraction is launched. Upgrades, Suspicious Neighbours and a Hedgehog called Esme! After a fabulous weekend discovering the incredible stories and harrowing realities of WW2 in Normandy, Monday night brought a very different type of event. We hosted the annual White Knight and Good Fairy meal, marking the end of a fortnight where 20 members had been doing anonymous good deeds for each other. At the meal we reveal who has been doing what to whom and hear the stories of daring covert activity. The ingenuity of the members is always fabulous and hilarious to hear! It is one of those events that is difficult to describe and do justice to in words. I just find myself saying “you had to be there”. However, we had members blagging upgrades for their “VIP’s” from Virgin Airlines; One lady even finding that a goodie package had been delivered to her dog whilst in kennels; Suspicions were aroused by neighbourhood watch groups everywhere as spy’s equipped with gifts (baked potatoes?!) prowled back gardens. And yes, Esme now has a rescue hedgehog named after her!
