Ski Resort & Hotel Information For our first trip we are off to St Christoph in Austria, a first for Spice London. St Christoph is a quiet pretty & snow sure resort located high above its famous neighbour; St Anton and with easy access to Austria’s No 1 world-class Arlberg ski area. Our Chalet Hotel is in a fantastic location at the base of an easy blue run from the Galzig peak where you may enjoy a sociable gluwein or beer before the final home run to the hotel door. In the morning you’re able to step onto the piste to catch the nearby drag lift from behind the hotel or a short walk to the St Christophbahn chair to gain access to the whole ski area. There is also a bus stop 50m from the hotel allowing easy access to St Anton or the nearby resorts of Lech & Zurs (taxis are also available). Spice UK visited this hotel last season and were very impressed by the rooms, contemporary bar & restaurant which have all been recently refurbished to a very high standard. The hotel offers a residents only bar, a comfy fireside lounge (with free tea, coffee & WI-FI), a modern attractive dining room, there is also a sauna and large indoor swimming pool with mountain views and relaxing loungers. Everyday a full skier’s buffet breakfast with hot options on 6 days is included and also afternoon tea with cakes on 6 days. There is a choice of evening meals for 6 nights which includes 5 courses, pre-dinner aperitif, complimentary wine, tea/coffee & chocolates, we dine out locally one night (own cost) either locally or in St Anton, last year we went on a piste basher to a mountain restaurant to make a special night out. St Christoph is a quiet village with a few hotels located on a pass above its lively neighbour St Anton, the hotel bar is a great place to meet for a pre-dinner drink and the legendary Hospiz Alm Hotel is just opposite for a more traditional Austrian atmosphere and is an excellent lunch stop, you must try the slide down to the loos! Spice party animals will be heading for St Anton a 10 minute bus ride down the mountain. For those who have never been to St Anton this is THE Austrian party town, the fun usually starts early on the slopes in either the famous Krazy Kanguruh or the more traditional MooserWirt. In the town there is a brilliant choice of bars offering live music from before the lifts close and into the early hours. Despite the partying St Anton retains much of its Tyrolean charm with traditional 17 century painted buildings. The town also has a sports centre with outdoor ice wall, bowling and a wide choice restaurants & shops.

Ski Area Most skiers catch the chair and head for St Anton which is rated as one of the top 5 resorts in the Alps or towards Stuben. St Christoph is part of the huge Arlberg ski area offering great snow conditions and has 340km of pistes and 200km of off piste itineraries plus huge off piste areas connected by a efficient modern lift system (some chairs are heated). St Anton is more suited to better intermediate skiers as some of the blue runs can be bumpy & challenging, there are however good ski schools locally and also in the Nasserein area, plus there is a lovely long blue down to the pretty village of Stuben with is onion domed church. Alternately catch the bus to the smart resort of Lech or the very Austrian resort of Sonnenkopf for some long easy blues. For intermediates St Anton is a brilliant resort to gain confidence and improve your technique on the blue and red runs on the Galzig, Kapall & Rendl Mountains, a day out at Lech, Zurs and the newly connected resort of Warth are also a must. To really get some miles under your skis the White Ring Circuit connecting Zurs & Lech is easily ski able by good intermediates. Experts will love the challenge of the steep moguled blacks from Kapall and the Galzig and the many red itinerary runs, however the main draw will be the almost unlimited off piste but you need to be up early to catch the best powder. For a real challenge hire a guide and ski off piste from the back of the Valuga.

Spice London’s View Although quiet, St Christoph is a great base with a fantastic hotel offering easy ski-in ski-out access to the slopes and to the brilliant St Anton ski area. Catching the bus to Lech/Zurs/Warth offers a high mileage & rewarding days skiing. It’s ideal for good intermediate and above skiers making it one of our favourites. In addition nearby St Anton has in our view has the best apres ski in the Alps. If you’re a good skier and only going once this season this is the place to go and have a ball with your Spice friends, join us in 2017.

Spice London Ski Trip 2

Alpe d’Huex, France - Sunday 18th March to 25th March 2017 Cost: Dates: Place: Includes: Extras:

£729 deposit £150 for member twin share room Saturday 18 March to Saturday 25 March 2017 flying from London Gatwick times TBA Chalet Hotel Les Cimes, Alpe d’Huez, France, Our tour operator is Inghams Return flights & resort transfers, 7 nights hotel accommodation, 5 course evening meals on 6 nights, with complementary wine, 7 breakfasts, 6 afternoon teas, free Wi-Fi (in public areas) & Spice host Travel insurance, Drinks & Some meals, Lift pass, ski / boot / board hire, Ski school

Ski Resort & Hotel Information Alpe d’Huez in France, another first for Spice London, is located on a sunny plateau surrounded by an amazing snow bowl. The terrain offers something for all levels of skier and is well suited to beginners and experts alike. The hotel is comfortable and has fantastic sunny south facing views over the surrounding mountains. The hotel has a bar with a cosy lounge and log fireplace where you can enjoy the pre-dinner canapés or a social drink and a game of pool after your evening meal. Everyday a full skier’s buffet breakfast with hot options on 6 days is included and also afternoon tea with cakes on 6 days. There is a choice of evening meals for 6 nights which includes 5 courses, pre-dinner aperitif, complimentary wine, tea/coffee & chocolates, we dine out locally one night (own cost). The hotel has a sauna and steam room and has free WI-FI in the public areas. All rooms are en suite and many have south facing balconies. Please note room sizes vary and are allocated on a pot luck basis. . The hotel is comfortable and has fantastic sunny south facing views over the surrounding mountains. The nearest chairlift is a 5 minute walk away or you can catch the ski bus into the town centre (5 minutes). It’s possible for confident intermediates to ski almost back to the hotel on red & blue runs. The town itself is very lively and has plenty of apres ski on offer and has a great selection of bars and restaurants. Not to be missed is La Folie Douce bar on the slopes above the resort which gets going mid-afternoon, where dancing on the tables is optional!

Ski Area The main ski lifts of Alpe d’Huez are at the foot of a large sunny bowl, many of the runs here are gentle greens & blues, perfect for beginners and timid intermediates and a great area to hook up with other Spice members at lunchtimes. Further away from this area the runs become slightly steeper blues & reds and will provide intermediates and better skiers some fun and are ideally suited to those wanting to get some miles under their skis away from the main area. There are also some lovely easy blue runs to the small village of La Villette and Vaunjany and some fun reds down into Oz En Oisans. Further away from the main area is the long 13 km Sarenne run which claims to be the longest black run in the Alps, the top section from the Pic Blanc is a steep black and is often covered in moguls, you can however skip this bit and take the Clocher De Macle cable and ski the black from here which isn’t too difficult and flattens considerably into a beautiful green. For those wanting a real challenge try the fearsome Le Tunnel, upon exiting a corridor cut in the rock (hence the name) you are faced with one of the steepest blacks in the Alps which is often covered in icy moguls. If that sounds just a bit too much there are some challenging itineraries and fun red and blacks from the Marmottes II cable car. The Auris En Oisans is also a great area to spend the day and offers some great cruising blue and fun red runs, the only frightening bit is the “scare” chair lift connecting this area to Alpe d’huez itself, it drops down into a steep valley before climbing again, just close your eyes and remember to breathe!

Spice London’s View Alpe d’Huez is a brilliant resort for mixed ability ski groups such as Spice, there really is something for everyone from gentle greens runs for beginners and timid skiers to truly scary black runs that will challenge experts all easily accessible via the efficient lift system. The hotel is located slightly outside the main town enough to be away from the hustle and bustle and offers some great views but is close enough to walk in for a drink and some apres ski, the ski bus runs outside the hotel. The hotel offers some great food and a cosy relaxing place to chat to other Spice members about your day on the slopes or plenty of apres ski in the town & slopes.
